They should look like non-animecartoon creatures. Simple as that.

That's very vague. If that's all there is to it, a dog would be able to pass as an elf.

They kind of did, in DA2.

No, they shouldn't. Elves need to look like an entirely different race, rather than merely short humans. They definitely should be immediately recognizable as elves, rather than easily being taken for humans whenever their ears are covered by hair. The elves of DA2 were just fine.

Well, I guess looking like they were on the receiving end of the ugly stick does make them look instantly recognizable...

They are humanoid; I never said they weren't.  People like yourself are complaining that people like me only want humans with pointy ears which is false.  My point is that elves are supposed to look slightly human yet different.  I simply find their in game DA2 design to be horrid.

How are things in game not supposed to look like their concept art?  They obviously cannot make everything look exactly the same because of graphical limitations but they try their best given the look the in game artists come up with.

You're using "they're humanoid" as you think why DA2 elves should be changed. DA2 elves are humanoid. Clearly.
Do you want elves to look like the pictures you've shown...because those are...humans with pointy ears...just sayin'

Elves aren't supposed to look like anything. They're a fantasy race...
DA2 elves look very close to their concept though...

I'll say it only once more; I said elves are humanoid when people started accusing me of wanting them to look like humans with pointy ears.  Obviously the DA2 elves are humanoid; and again I never said they weren't.  In addition to being humanoid, I find themt unnattractive and not what I would imagine a race which humans find beautiful looks like.

I posted those pictures because I like the way they look and I believe if Bioware could match that with a few tweaks, the elves would actually be worthy of their description.  You'll also notice I posted pictures of vanilla DA:O elves whom I also find to be incredibly unattractive.  I want a middle ground; not either or.

My beef with the DA:O elves, as I've mentioned previously is that nothing meaningful distinguishes them from humans. DA2 they are at least different enough in appearance that calling them a different species is believable. The lack of distinguishing elfy traits in DA:O, as I mentioned before, makes them appear to be an ethnic minority of humans with a simple genetic reccessive trait.

If humans with pointy ears are considered a different species in Thedas god forbid the existence of large populations of black, asian, hispanic, or native americans. The war and discrimination between these different "species" would be of epic proportions.

There should be a bit of a mix, leaning more to the Origin styled elves.

I never said that YOU said they weren't. I just saying that you CAN'T use "all elves are humanoid" as a reason why they shouldn't look like they do in DA2. Because they ARE humanoid and that doesn't really make any sense.

You mean you can't imagine why Fantasy humans, in a fantasy world, would find a fantasy race, that also lives in this fantasy world, as attractive as they do because you yourself don't find them attractive?

The elves you do find attractive (presumably the bottom one) are modded...so...
DA2 elves are unrealistic, because one guy said that all humans think every single elf in Thedas is beautiful. But smooth, styled hair, and unblemished skin...aren't...

Yup. I just can't believe that elves are being oppressed because they are a different species as they look exactly the same as their oppressors. Bioware just couldn't sell that to me. But in DA2 I believed it with a fiery passion.

I think elves should looks like  Mystical, tall, very beautiful to man and womans, their bodies slender but  well tone, they move with grace and are very agile, elves have a terrific accuracy and precision,  they can use almost all type of herbs to make healing/vigor potions, they have high resistance to nature damage.

I know some people like the way they look in DA2 but I really hate it. I much preferred what they looked like in DA:O. What I suggest is kind of make a mixture between the two to please everyone. Please don't make them all have those weird noses and anorexic body shapes. This is just my opinion. I think the DA3 team should make a good combination of the elves apperance from origins and 2.

I agree.  I would like to see the horns on the qunari gone as well but that genie is probably long out of the bottle...le sigh.

A humanoid with distinct features that seperate them from humans, none of the "every elf must look pretty / hot / sexy" or "sexy humans with pointy ears" which most people have clamored for the past few years. DA2's elves had it pretty good, though they need to fix body proportions and work a bit on the specific details.

I think they should do a better job of implementing the same general racial features for the elves as in DA2. The elf characters that felt like they had care put into their design (Merrill, Fenris, Orsino) looked just fine.

I though Merrill and Fenris looked alright because they used human bases. Don't know about Orsino though. I should really go find a source on that...

Edit: That'll teach me not to type things out first....
None that I could find. Though they look more like humans than the rest of the elves.

mayor difference!  dragon age 2 elves looks.... sick.. DAO elves looks normal for DA universe, a bit shorter than J. R. R. Tolkien view of the elves.

I like J. R. R. Tolkien elves they are appealing to the eye, DA2 not so much.

The concept art for them in DA2 looked a lot better than what we got in game. They weren't as gangly and their features were less exaggerated. If they can make them look like the concepts then I'd be golden.

To call the DAII Elves manga Elves or that spectacular image Huntress posted Manga Elves would be incredibly erroneous IMO, unless the latter is from a particular manga series that I have never had the privilege of reading.

If it isn't, then I stand by my assertion: to call either depictions manga/anime is a gross misrepresentation and abuse of the terms.

I find it hard to tell sometimes whether it was intended or not, and to what extent, given the terrible graphical quality I experienced on my 360. If they are going to be romance interests, then it logically follows that they should fall within acceptable standards of "beauty". No matter how great their personality, I find it really hard to justify my character trying to romance a goblinoid alien.

Sometimes the elves in DA2 seemed fine, other times horrifying, but never really great, IMO.

Aren't talking exclusively of romantic interests. I think Fenris and Merrill looked nice enough. The only complaint i've heard about them is that Fenris looked too anime and Merrill reminded them of a child.

What are these "acceptable beauty standards" you speak of?

"They're not pretty enough" is an incredibly weak argument. There is no rule that says a fantasy race needs to be attractive. Look at dwarves, they fall outside the usual standard of beauty and yet there was a sizable group of people that wanted a dwarf LI for DA2. Or look at the ME series, Turians are about as far removed from the standards of human beauty as a humanoid race can get and yet there are legions of Garrus fangirls(and boys) that would jump him like a rabbit in heat given the chance.

In other words, saying that the DA2 elf design is bad because they aren't attractive is a completely invalid argument since everyone has different standards of beauty, and there were most certainly large numbers of people who found Merril and Fenris more than attractive enough to justify romancing those characters.
