I kind of liked the DA2 Elf look. Can it be improved? Sure. I'd like to see them a little less scrawny certainly. But I thought some of the major characters were gorgeous. Fenris, Merrill, Athenril and Marethari were beautiful to me. (But still too skinny.)

I'm hoping that the elves in DA3 will look as beautiful as they're supposed to be. In DA2 they were too freakish, even without the horrible mistakes and glitches of the last game.

I like to think that Elves do look the same as in Origins but Varric just exaggerated the hell outta them. I do vastly prefer Origins Elves to DA2s.

They all seemed to look the same. Same nose, ears and starved appearance. Yes, there were some differences but not enough. The should all look different but have the same general characteristics to show their race. Give them some bulk if they are fighters and maybe more sleek muscle if they are rogues. Like Alistar and Zevran looked like they had bad plastic surgery jobs but the new Flemeth was awesome. She was a good improvement from DA:O. Just as in life we are all different looking, so why should all the characters of the different races look identical to each other in the same race.

I preferred the DA2 elven, because the art team went out of the way to make them not be 'skinny humans with long ears'. DA2 elven were alien, and it was refreshing.

I loved that BW made elves more distinct from humans. They could use a little more meat to them though. Like maybe have each one hit the gym for an extra month. There's some absurdly hot slim figured fitness chicks out there, the the creepy alien body fitness chicks. Elves should look like that.

Instead of using pictures, can people tell me what they think elves should look like in DA3?

Small, lithe humans with pointy ears.

That's it.

Whatever they do with the elves in DA3, it needs to be the final look elves have in the DA world. I have serious problems taking the writing and design teams seriously if they change the appearance of the major races in their own world with every game. It's just irritating and annoying. Make up your mind when you create the world, and then stick to it. Minor tweaks and updates are fine, but the complete changes of the elves, kossith and 'spawn were... problematic imo.

That being said, I hate the elves in DA2.

No, they shouldn't. Elves need to look like an entirely different race, rather than merely short humans. They definitely should be immediately recognizable as elves, rather than easily being taken for humans whenever their ears are covered by hair. The elves of DA2 were just fine.

Well, I guess looking like they were on the receiving end of the ugly stick does make them look instantly recognizable...

1. Many people thought the elves were plenty attractive.  Those who felt otherwise aren't the only DA fans whose opinions matter.

2. Making an entire race of NPCs conventionally attractive should NOT be the most important detail here.  You'll have to pardon me if I find it ridiculous that people think the elves should be changed for the reason that many--not all--players don't find them attractive.  The purpose of elves in Dragon Age is not to provide visual titillation.

I guess it is not so much that I want the elves to be attractive as much as I want them to not be horrifying to look at. To me, too many of them look like uncanny valley humans rather than a distinct race, which is what the devs stated was their intention in the redesign. I just don't think they succeeded.

Why is it so bloody important for elves to look "unique"? DA Dwarves aren't unique by any stretch of the imagination, and I almost never hear anyone complain about them. Elves enter the picture and suddenly they have to look not only different form humans, but different from every other adaptation of elf ever made? They aren't a unique race that BioWare invented for this franchise alone; they're elves. Let them be elves.

I like my (modded) DA:O elves much better than most of the DA2 elves. I know not everyone likes the big ears, but this just works for me so much better:

It's less that they need to look unique, than that they need to be recognizable as elves, according to the DA universe.  Origins elves didn't look like anything other than humans with pointy ears, to the extent that whenver those ears were covered, the elf literally passed as human, and the players have to have context to know that--or to be expressly told as such by the NPCs.  But the DA lore itself tells us that elves DO look distinct from humans, enough so that they aren't mistaken for the latter.

Why is it important that DA elves look like every other incarnation of elf in existence, to turn the question back to you?  There is no reason why Bioware can't try to be original.  They wouldn't be the first, either.  There ARE elves in some books and other forms of fantasy media that break the stereotypes--both the one of the classical imagination, and the otherworldly one as depicted by Tolkien.  There's nothing wrong with attempting to be original.  If anything, elves of classical imagination and those of modern fantasy are so bloody overdone that they're tiresome and boring.  Let's move the fruck on, already.

I agree with the spirit of the redesign, it just looked weird on any elf that didn't get a lot of attention. Fenris and Merril looked good, and I didn't have a problem with Arianni (Feynriel's mother) or Marethari either. I just think some looked better than others.

make them a little less childlike in appearence maybe. So yeah tweak them but don't do a complete overhaul there should be visual consistency between games.

Unique or not, the elves in DA2 looked silly. I rather have them to look like humans with pointy ears than the elves in DA2.

I think the elves design was too inconsistent. Some characters looked great, others looked terrible. I liked the notion of making them more distinct but it just wasn't implemented consistently well.

The fact the game is using a new engine (Frostbite) means that there's a strong chance they'll take the opportunity to refine or completely overhaul their features. I think a lot of the limitations placed on them by the old engine hampered design in general so I'm glad to see it gone.

I like the DA2 elf design. I say keep them. A lot of the worst-looking elves in the game had problems that were not unique to the elves (overgaunt cheeks, oversaturated/clashing makeup). Tweak that, keep the distinctive eyes/nose/ears and I think that would be perfect for me.

Edit: I do agree they could do with some shoes, though.
