1. What does this accomplish? By throwing these things under the bus the reapers are stuck in the same position they were at the end of Mass Effect 2 in that final graphic at the end. Harbinger's last words are "You have failed, we will find another way." Quite honestly we didn't really know Harbinger was a reaper until the end of Arrival, so Harbinger being an actual reaper is non-canon. We can make Harbinger anything we want. And we set blowing up the collector base as canon because we don't want Cerberus getting their mits on it, just because we know about Cerberus -- bringing you tomorrow's problems today.
2. What is the purpose of throwing them under the bus? This allows us to get Bioware (or any successive company to write ME) to make Harbinger the Controlling AI in the Citadel. This allows for an opening scene in the next Mass Effect game which takes place to be a big fire breaking out deep in the Keeper tunnels. Shepard leads a team of tech experts and fire techs down to investigate and put out the fire, along with members of C-sec and Captain Bailey.
When they get there the fire is burning out of control. They hear a child screaming violently inside. Bailey says "The poor kid. It's probably one of those duct rats." And then the fire suddenly takes a real turn for the worse and there are some initial explosions. Shepard tells everyone to get the hell out, and they back out the tunnel and Shepard closes and secures the tunnel hatch. Then they hear some secondary explosions and "Warning: Area Decompression." All the keeper tunnel hatches leading to that area seal and a major explosion happens blowing the Reaper Control AI into space. Unfortunately there is no salvage. (awwww) Bailey later checks security footage and it shows Keeper 20 leaving the area just shortly after the fire started.
GOAL: This ends the reaper plot forever.
3. Where are we going with this? Shortly after happens, Shepard (Spectre) is summoned to the Council Chambers for a private meeting to discuss a very sensitive matter having to do with a report received from an operative in Batarian space. They play the report. There apparenly is an underground railroad being operated by Batarians opposed to the slave practices within the Hegemony that is helping slaves escape to the Terminus. Reports from other operatives in the Terminus have shown that many of these former slaves have met with misfortune at the hands of other traffickers. They want you to investigate. This is non-council space so you'll have to keep a low profile. You'll report back to the Council directly. You won't have the Normandy, but you'll be travelling on a smaller stealth junker looking ship that will attract a lot less attention. You've been there before and have established a contact network. This is just the beginning. You'll be working with Batarian rebels eventually.
I thought this would be quite interesting since we know so little about the Batarians.
