Will the end of the dunce caps in the DA universe finally end? Will I be able to finally wear some battle armor on my mage again? Robes are fine but I'd like to see more variety on my mage. Too many robes and not enough battle armor!

I thought the Champion set in DA2 looked awesome. I really hate that fantasy RPGs run with the cliche mages need to run around in dresses/robes. Sure, they need light armor based on their combat training but it comes in different varieties too! Mages can still be in light armor and look cool too!

Mage armor can still have class distinction, personality, and look badass! If mages are rebelling, shouldn't they be able to wear whatever the hell they want? I'm not saying make them like these styles, just loosen up on the dunce caps and Circle robes please! More Champion armors! Do it Bioware! Please!? :P

Proof that YMMV.

To me the first pic you've got is mediocre as far as game's with necromancer armor goes, and the second one is just plain hideous. Not that the DA series has good mage appearances either. Well except for the Mantle of the Champion from DA2.

Mages could wear armour in DA:O, so i see no problem with adding armours for them.

I wasn't saying use the armor in the pics, I was saying give some variety. Obviously the armor has to fit the themes and setting...

If my mage has to wear this I think I am going to let the templars just kill him.

As nice as those armors are...they're a bit to high fantasy for Dragon Age...that would just be like screaming "I'm a mage!" Unless warriors and rogues get fancy stuff as well.
But then if you think about the Champion armors...

I support Mage Armor, but I also support the mage being able to duel wield daggers, or to use a bow again. If there's one thing I missed about DA:O in DA2, it was having a mage that could either freeze people to death or stab them in the eyes.

If I had it my way, I'd like to see restrictions removed on mage armor...

If you properly train your mage, why not allow him/her to use heavy? What in the lore prevents a mage being more of a hybrid in his training? Similar to Arcane Warriors.

This is one thing that frustrates me in DA2. My mage only looks badass when I get Champion. So I skin that on him/her at the beginning of the game...it almost makes me want to play a Warrior only because they have plenty of cool looking armor.

I support anything that allows gear to be tied only to stats, and not to any particular class.
As for the actual cloth armor models, I didn't mind the robes. The caps were just generally silly looking though, my mages always went hatless because of it. (or in the case of DAO, just wore medium armor)

I want a mage in full heavy plate, with a nice big sword. Don't care if it's the most powerful build (Arcane Warrior in Origins) or the least powerful, it is what i want thematically and aesthetically.

Nothing lorewise. Its largely a balance issue. Overall DA2 was way more balanced than DA:O, and DA:A, as my invincibility set of magic immunity and autododge from DA:O-A would attest. Its a single player rpg so I'm not quite sure how much balance matters to people, if at all. Though presumably if the differences are too large, the game needs to be balanced to the lowest common denominator and then every fight will be a cakewalk, or Bioware will stick in randomly hard bosses that make game completion impossible with the weaker classes/specializations.

Actually that would suck. I vote yes for cooler mage clothing(and rogue clothing), but no for heavy armor for mages, unless armor is entirely aesthetic. No need to make the game more difficult to be balanced(and therefore more likely to be unbalanced).

for me, they should allow us to enchant a gear like skyrim.

Ones in the OP are too ridiculous. But. mages should definitely have some light armors designed solely for them in the game. Never liked wearing the damn robes in either game, so the Champion armor(even if the spikeyness was a little ridiculous too) was welcome.

EDIT: Thpugh arcane warriors should be able to wear whatever armor as per Origins.

I seem to be agreeing with Welsh Inferno quite a bit lately.

I am personally in favor of removing most limitations for equipment, so that way mages could wear any armor if they wish. However, the armor should have fatigue(like in DAO) so wearing heavy armor hurts the mage's ability to cast spells.

Mage robes for everyone!

If they're going to keep stat restrictions atleast give each class the armors with the same models. The Stonehammer armor was too cool to keep for warriors, Bioware. You should have shared (and made it shinier).

Yes on Mage armor, after all it is war time. If the mages are at war they must have armor over their robes. Plus the Arcane warrior must make a return. Not all mages will be wielding staffs, some have to hold the front lines with shields and swords....at the expense of Some magic abilities etc. Although if you have mages be master armorers, with runes it might be a different story for front line mages.

Cloaks, and funny hats. Funny hats are DA mage tradition.

Bioware should implement that social/combat armor that Lord of The Rings Online has. You have the looks of one thing with the stats of another.
