Because throwing fireballs with your bare hands makes total sense?

Since we're seriously going to have this argument in the M/M romance thread, I'll keep it simple.

Magic doesn't exist.  Biotics don't exist.  BioWare can invent whatever rules it wants for them. Or in the case of typical science fiction tropes like FTL or artificial gravity, devise some handwavium that is broadly plausible on some level and run with it.

But biology exists.  Biology has rules.  Biology has terminology, like "male" and "female" with terms that have meanings, meanings that exclude certain possibilities as long as you're going to use and apply those terms.  Strictly speaking from a biological standpoint, an all-male species cannot exist because males require females or there's no point to having males, other than to provide genetic diversity through sexual reproduction.

Attempting to answer the issues created by a fictional race like the Asari by asserting that there ought have been some farcical all-male equivalent is, well, silly.

In any case, I've taken up far too much time in this M/M thread responding to this tangent.  So I'll stop here.

Well, the fact is an all male species wouldn't make any biological sense.

And why does an all female race make more sense? They reproduce through their mind, so what they have down low doesn't make that much difference.

Upsetty is probably going for a different angle, but the baby has to come out from somewhere.

FYI There is an AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE sci-fi book called Wraeththu by Storm Constantine. It is a post-apocalyptic narrative where men are dying out, but some few are transformed into "wraeththu," a new hermaphroditic species capable of reproducing with one another but who, of course, still look male (and use the masculine pronoun with one another). It's understood that wraeththu will replace the human race... what ends up happening though is that wraeththu, who thought themselves "above" human concepts of love and war, start to pair off and form families, and all the jealousies and such that come with such romantic unions...

Man, what kind of discussion one remark can create. xD

Back on the topic of M/M:
If Cullen is a companion, I think it's pretty much a given that he'll be romancable. So, realistically speaking, who do you think will be the other male LI?
If we assume the leaks are true, there's Cole, someone who looks like a chevalier and...okay, can't remember anyone else. But who do you think would be most likely to be the LI?
I mean, if what I read about Cole (on Wikipedia *cough*) is true, he might be a very...difficult man. Or whatever he is.

If I had to guess I'd say a mage :( Which depresses me a little because, not only can I not be an elf, but now I won't be able to romance one. Ah well. I know they can't please everyone. And there's always DA4.

Didn't Bioware say not to trust them? If it's true, I do hope they change Cullen's coat. It looks ridiculous on him.

yeah, the customization. It would be awesome if they release the modding kit. I'm planning to design some new clothes for Cullen. =]

I like modding, so I play most of my RPG games on PC. It's more fun to mess around with characters' clothing and apparance. Since I don't like Zevran, modding is the only way I can romance Alistair.

It just doesn't look like something he wears. The coat itself is okay. I'm not a fan of fur, but I don't mind fictional fur coat. I have always imagine Cullen as a light dresser.

Well, we only saw him in his templar plate, so maybe that is what he likes to wear off duty.

Since all companions will have a personal style that changes their armor they probably felt the need to give Cullen a new outfit. In fact, he's pretty much all dressed up in heavy armor, with furs and fabric on top of it. You can also see the burning sword of Andraste.

Also, if we are going to talk about Kaidan's ME1 S/S romance we should also talk about how they cut Ashley's, something that seems counter-productive with the lesbian fetish you claim they're aiming for.

There were never meant to be s/s romances with Kaidan and Ashley in ME1.  That's a common misconception. What you hear in those audio files is Jennifer Hale saying Male Shepards's lines and vice-versa.

Did they record this line for fun?

The line is recorded by a guy. Why would they make maleShep said that? I get recording extra lines just in case, but that line is a bit too specific, and it was in the game.

I sunno. It could easily be applied to FemShep if it wanted to. The lines are the only hing that poeple have as evidence, and they are far from finished (mark Meer-as-Femshep suddenly stops talking after you do the deed with Kaidan).

It doesn't matter. If s/s romances were thought of, it was very early on in the development process. People are assuming that it was like Juhani where it was set to be implemented and then cut out at the last minute.

As stated by the Final Hours app, the Bioware people were very apprehensive about adding a gay male relationship in the series.

Yes, I know. I'm sure they did think about adding Kaidan as a S/S option since there are precedences regarding S/S in previous Bioware game. It would be odd for them to record extra lines, especially regarding s/s. I don't know how things work in Bioware, but a lot of VA are paid by the number of lines. I don't think it's sensible to pay for voices that they know they're not gonna use. I think they did think about it but choose to remove it due to controversy. You're right though. Whether or not they intended to have it, it wasn't there in the finished product. They had a lesbian option in the game but not gay. If you don't consider Liara to be a female then in the second game, there's Kelly. ME is one of the first RPG/Shooter game to actually have a gay character but they're far from gay rights champions. The game caters to straight male and gaymers are nothing but an afterthought. It makes sense in a business standpoint, but I like DA team in that regard because they are not fear of offending gamers. They had Zevran as a M/M option. The DAO was one of their best sellers proving that it's not the S/S. People will buy the game if it's good. SWTOR team appears to think otherwise though. <_<

Paid by the line, really? I honestly thought they tended to be paid by the hour. *random thought/input*

Doesn't Zevran mention that he usually prefers women? At least DA II does that better. It's a pity that people will hate characters just because they flirt with the male PC, anyway.

It's incredibly insulting that they thought it was required to ask the male actors for permission (and he somehow thought this was a good thing to reveal as an example of how they handled the situation with care).
