Custom...

Things like battle mages in heavier armor doesn't do anything to go against DA lore. I see no reason to strip player agency when it's consistent with current lore...

If I want to make an Arcane Warrior, I should be able to do that. The more customization we get, the better. The most popular games out today give you a ton of customization in how you play.

Eh... you joking right?

Example : WoW - most popular MMOrpg. Till the TBC expansion every class had uniue abilities which stack with each other. That means the buffs weren't exclusive to each other. Example would be having buff from Druid  and Warrior, each for 5% more critical strike, and together for 10%.

Comes Wotlk.... All this buffs/abilites were homogenized and use a single same buff place. Even worse, the new DK has abilites that are already provided in same way by Shamans(Windfury VS buff from Frost, can't remeber name) and Warlocks (Ebon Plague.VS Magic damage buff curse).

And i am speaking about gameplay of course.

The customization that today games giving you, in form of gameplay is just illusion. For instance -Skyrim doesn't offer *more* customization at all. You are either warrior, mage or thief. And any combination will get eventually shaft - especially with mage. Mage/Warrior will always be big garbage to the full warrior with light armor/two hander.

Even Witcher 2, which i often praised could use a bit more talents, because on Iorveth/Saskia path i was often full in two talent trees (not the training one) and even going to third. A game with good gameplay customization should never allow you to pick all the spells/talents/abilities on single playthrough, and not even on second. Examples of this would be Arcanum of Steamwork and Magicka or Fallout 2. Of course i don't expect this kind of depth to the game, which is made for small brained console players, but we can always hope for more.

Set classes. It works for Dragon Age. I think they should make the classes even more individualized though. And I don't just want to level up talents, BRING BACK SKILLS!!!!

regardless of set or custom.
what matters to me is that
the result is no a monolithic one trick pony. I want to have several tactical options.
the system enables me to created the class according to what i want to role play.

that can be both achieved with set classes with different sub classes and skills or customisable classes.

well - i do want a classless-system (with us choosing if the character has any magical ability at the start or not, thus setting the flag for mage or non-mage - other then that i would want total freedome, as that would give me the option of not needing to make my party of two mages (one of them a healer), a rogue and a warrior if i want max. utility (opening boxes, stealth, high melee damage, tanking, magical damage and healing)...if my mage could stealth and open boxes, that would get rid of the need for a rogue for example!)

ps: there should also be skills again, not only talents (and certain skills could be needed for certain talents, thus making it quite hard to build a really overpowered character or a real-jack-of-all-trades-but still-master-of-all...also that is not a must, as the balance point is totally moot in a single-player-game!)

greetings LAX

My preference will always be towards customization.

Yet, I'll take what they provide. DA3:I is its own game with its own gameplay. The more that we want it to be like the 2nd DA, DA:O or some other game, the more likely we will be disappointed.

Set classes. I hated the way rogue was treated in DA:O. DA2 is a vast improvement.

the pattern has already been set. free form classes work with a sand box, the DA series isn't a sand box, therefore set classes :P

I like the idea of DA classes. I do think there should be some tweaks. I like the use of specializations but they should (and they have said they plan to do this) be special and unique. I don’t mind weapon restriction so long as they make sense, nor skill/talent ones as long as also, they make sense. I think the specializations should stay as they are as far as the names and descriptions, here’s a few of my other ideas.

Each weapon set would have its own talent tree that makes the PC more proficient, but any class can pick up any weapon and use it if they meet the restrictions (such as strength, or dexterity). Each class would have a class talent tree, kind of like Origin (the rouge could go into stealth, the warrior could control agro, and the mage could boost spell powers and staff “poke” damage), and unique trees kind of like DA2 (the rouge could use Sabotage, Scoundrel and Specialist. The warrior had Battlemaster, Vanguard, and Warmonger. The mage has all those spell groups). I like the esthetic and function of the trees in DA2 more than the lines in DA:O.

Warrior - Has the sword/shield, single blade (kind of how in KotOR you could get a talent that specialized in using a single light saber and added a lot to your deflection rating and one-on-one combat bonus), two-handed weapons, bows, two weapon wielding trees.
Mage - Has the staffs (only mages can equip staffs) and single blade trees.
Rouge - Has the two-weapon wielding, bows, and single blade trees.

Just some ideas, may add more as I think of them.

Custom.  When given the opportunity I love making a mixed class of battlemage.  Origins kind of tried to make a sub class like that but it was very restrictive of what spells you could actually use without swapping out your weapons mid fight and didn't offer any of the weapon skills at all to mix into the strategy.  Didn't like that.  It was basically still just a mage that nerfed its knowledge of spells in order to wear armor.  I want something thats more of a real hybrid of warrior and mage, combining fire balls with blade whirlwinds and the such.

I honestly prefer set classes. But then I have issues with games that give you too much freedom. I never know which way to turn first and end up not playing it at all because trying to figure out what I like best of the 1000 possible options gives me a headache. This is the main reason I admire TES but don't actually enjoy playing them. I need slightly more rigid guidelines in the game mechanics. I love RP freedom, yes, but giving my character a complex personality and having to balance an insanely complex set of skill choices are two very different things for me.

Anyway, custom classes in DA is never going to happen because of the way magic is handled story-wise. When would the dialogue recognize you as a mage? One point in magic skills? Twenty?

IMO BioWare should stick to what they know in terms of gameplay. Set class choices aren't anything innovative, but it works.

Set classes with deeper specializations. A set Character would react more to the story IMO

Set class, but customizable as some others have said. I'm content with wielding a staff/blade staff but someone might wanna wield dual daggers on their Mage.

For whatever reason..

I`d like a set class, but the class should be customizable. I want to create my own type of rogue. Not every rogue in the world is a ninja. Some are just charismatic, and maybe good at picking locks.

i'd prefer a set of classes, but, like the NWN, a large number of them, with different names and etcs
