Dragon Age explained why The Warden never got turned into a baddy darkspawn. (Because he was a grey warden.)
Mass Effect never explained why Shepard never got indoctrinated into a Husk Zombie thingy.
Dragon age is better at explaining things obviously.

Dragon Age had a different writing team.

I just headcanon it by saying Shepard blew everything up and got out of Dodge before he could be affected long-term.

Really? The answer is simply that Shepard never got indoctrinated. Not really needing a detailed explanation behind that one, imo...

Also, you're comparing two wildly different scenarios from two wildly different universes that each have their own rules and lore.

You become darkspawn by being bitten by darkspawn. (I'm pretty sure.)
You become a bad husk thingy by being near a reaper.
Kind of same thing.

You can also get tainted by being near darkspawn too long as well.

If all it take is being near a Reaper, then the whole galaxy should have been indoctrinated, if not large swathes of it. If you're going to complain about it not being explained how Shepard got away with not being indoctrinated, then you need to also complaing about every single squad-mate Shepard has ever had, plus everyone who was ever on the Citadel after Sovereign vomited himself over it when it died. And that's to start with.

You don't so much become an actual darkspawn as a darkspawn-like ghoul, and you don't have to be bitten by one, no.  You just have to be in close proximity to one, though it's not an absolute given that you'll be infected, just a good possibility.

I suppose that would explain some of their Derpy behavior.

That's not quite how indoctrination works. It took research teams days to become indoctrinated by Reapers. This is within a REAL reaper btw, the various minions of reapers don't count. The length of time taken depends on the individual and their level of willpower. I believe the longest time Shepard spent close to a Reaper artifact was in a ME2 dlc. Was he there long enough to possibly have been indoctrinated? Yes. Was he there long enough to make it guarenteed? No.

I'm personally a big fan of IT theory. Works much better with the dialogue of the ending.
