Fade to black sucks. It suuuuuuuuuuuuucks. We're all adults here, and just having a fade to black scene without at least showing a little bit of foreplay first is just boring. CDprojektRed has full blown sex scenes and shows it works just fine.
Come on Bioware, bring on the filthy!
Not going to happen.
Just because the rating allows something doesn't mean we should do it, or that we're even interested. It has nothing to do with censorship, nothing to do with us thinking sex is "filthy", and nothing to do with us being afraid of the subject. It's a matter of taste, as in our taste and what we think fits DA's tone. We do plenty of things in DA that earn the M rating, and In our opinion having nudity/sex just because it's possible wouldn't make the game darker or edgier (if that was even something we thought was a worthwhile goal).
What we'll do in DAI with regards to these scenes is something we may or may not discuss prior to release-- so you might have to wait until the game comes out to see what direction we've chosen, I'm not sure. We've discussed improvements-- the team has criticisms of both DAO's and DA2's approach-- but whatever the changes, I can assure you that nudity and "full blown sex scenes" are not in the cards.
If someone prefers that, and holds up CDProjekt as an example of how it "works just fine"-- awesome. Witcher's that way. I'm certain that having games on the market with multiple approaches to the topic is quite viable.

uh pseudo and hiero, the last developer who came to the BSN, that I am aware of to discuss anything related to this subject was David Gaider.
He ripped the romance haters in a thread, threatened to ban them if they continued assaulting the players who like romances, and told them to stay off the forum if they couldn't behave themselves .
The comments are directed towards those that chastise people that are a fan of romance content, which involves a lot more than whether or not nudity exists in the game. I have no issue with this position since people like our games for different reasons, and at this time it's probably one of the easier things to discuss at this point (which means the topic will, for better or worse, come up more frequently).
While I have no issues with people that want to discuss the merits of having/not having nudity in the game, I just wanted to clarify that someone that doesn't care for nudity in the game does not mean they are a "romance hater." I suspect many romance fans are not really interested in the nudity.

It's in this very thread, from two weeks ago. Click on the "Bioware" logo under the thread name and it'll show you all developer posts. Voila! It addresses this very topic, and has nothing to do with "romance haters".

A year long, 70 page thread that managed to avoid behind locked.
I don't know whether it should be decommissioned or put in a museum.
As long as the thread doesn't go toooooooo crazy, I don't have any real beef. It'd probably just get restarted otherwise.

Just a short question, Alan. I saw that interview where one of the devs said sex scenes are very expensive to make. Not being a game developer, I don`t get it. How is this more expensive than a regular cutscene, or regular animations?
I actually had answered in the other thread, but it's moving quickly so I'll answer it here too.
Basically, having two characters act in close proximity with one another poses a lot of challenge because clipping is such a concern. I think the requirements go up even compared to a combat interaction.
If my hand isn't quite on the shoulder of someone as my Inquisitor impales them with a sword, it's no big deal. If I move in for a kiss and half my face clips into the face of my love interest, well.... awkwaarrrrrrrrrd.

If you wish to comment on how "sex scenes" should or should not play out, there's a thread available based on an interview where that is actually discussed by J.P. (our Cinematics lead). Please use that, though kindly refrain from the pointless back-and-forth sniping this thread has engaged in. Thanks.
