yes - but not forced.

what do i want to say with that?

well, if you take a shower, go swimming (because say you want to get some sunken treasure from a lake (swimming in armor or robes is just stupid)), enter a strip-club/brothel/****-house or have sex with your LI then yes, but not just for the fun of it (but: it should not be taboo either - it is prudish and that makes it bad...)

meaning: don't avoid it, but don't showcase it if you don't need to (hell you could even have some non-erotic nudity - like my described swimming/diving scene with the treasure or something like finding a victim of a crime (rape comes to mind) or a slave who ran away without propper atire (like the Twi'lek-Dancers in Star Wars) or someone tossed into the streets etc. or having a physical done by a doctore/healer etc.) that's what keeps it tastefull, if you just feel the need to show of breasts for the sake of showing them off, then i would agree that this is not needed (!)

greetings lAX

First; just want to say I am all in favor of Bioware's innovative depansification feature and hope they continue to explore how this incredible new game mechanic can be utilized for more than just pirates... :-)

Well, applying depantsification and similar innovations to, say, male characters might have unforeseen consequences...

Haha, that's a great poke at the movie and video game industry.

There should be mods. Lots of 'em. Then people can choose whether to run around bucky nekkid, or wear their pants on their heads, or whatever.  :o

I know it's not happening, but will keep campaigning for that toolset 'til I'm blue in the fingers.  :P

Only if it's ME1 fashion nudity. Your romance option was nude but not to the point where you could see everything. And the romance scene was still flattering/sexy. If Bioware does add full on nude to the game, you won't see me complaining. I bought an 18+ game, so some booty on my screen is not a shocker.

Though in fairness, it doesn't really describe the armor used by women in the Dragon Age series.

Nudity and sex scenes are lame in video games. Is a bunch of polygons supposed to be exciting? They aren't for me, anyway.

Exactly. I want nudity in my games - especially emotive RPGs in which we are supposed to invest in relationships as much as the story at large. I want as much realism as possible, within the suspension of disbelief inherent in the fantasy genre. I want boobs and bums, and sex, and violence, and eating, sleeping, bathing... I want evidence of life. :o

(...but not necessarily all in one scene.)  :?

In short, I'm a grown-up, and my games have to be at least as interesting as the average Saturday night round our house.  :P

This would be fine if video game nudity didn't look ridiculous. It has the opposite effect of drawing me out of the events instead of immersing me in them.

You playing on your N64?

Our skin is made up of billions of cells, so technically if they animated using that many polygons (actually, they don't even need nearly as many as that, just the outer layer) they could make characters as attractive and realistic as actual people.

Like elvici said, we invest in the relationships in these games and want to see as much 'life' as possible in them. Relevant, of course, I don't need to walk the mabari, buy a house or furnish a flat. But little tidbits of interaction that draw us in, little scenes that gives a feeling of completeness. My dream mod is one where my PC runs in on Fenris having a bath in his tin tub, some smalltalk about the awkwardness of the situation, then either of the two invite the other or him/herself into the tub and sexy tiems ensues and there was much rejoicing. Even without seeing any action at all but just a fade to black while hearing giggling and splashing of water in the background would do it for me since it would, if done right, give me a sense of immersion.

If they decide to make sex scenes, however, they have to be tasteful. I'm not talking about underwear sex, Maker forbid! But while I lovingly reminisce the DA:O scenes (Alistair almost naked - say no more), I also remember the toecringing and the giggly slapping of my hands across my eyes while thinking how awfully embarrassing it was to watch. It has to be better than that, more realistic first and foremost, more believable. Not nudity for nudity's sake. If we can't have that, I'd rather have fade to black any day.

Well, there's no denying it needs to be done right. But surely if Rockstar can capture the minutiae of micro-expressions for L.A. Noire, somebody must be able to render the naked human form with enough realism that it doesn't make the player facepalm / choke on their Sprite / hide behind their chair...?

Well I don't think sex scenes were put in these games just for excitement. I think they were put in just so that the game could be more realistic. In reality, all our problems could be solved with just one thing; a toolset. :?

Yes.

Nudity being somehow worst than gratuitous violence, torture, rape, government/church corruption, lobotomy, demonic encounters, and other horrifying imagery is simply stupid.

I'm not gonn' lie, I'd like it.

I wouldn't say it is exactly *necessary*, even for story purposes. But lets be real here: some of us get very attached to the characters, especially the romantic partners -- as well we should with well-written characters in good stories. Getting to share the "payoff" of our in-game relationships with our in-game avatar is a nice reward, and perhaps even engenders more feelings of attachment.

Besides, as long as it is not gratuitous, what exactly is the big deal here?

Sure, with one choice BW could make everyone happy(on PC anyway), a tool kit. Naked not naked.

I'd absolutely love a toolkit and the mods that come with it.  It increased my enjoyment of DA a whole hell of a lot.

We have to be realistic, though.  The problem is that they're using a licensed engine with this game.  With the old engine it wasn't a problem because they owned it, but they don't necessarily have the right to distribute a toolkit so that people can mess around with Frostbite's guts and tinker with its assets.  I'd love it if they could circumvent this problem, but I don't think it is reasonable to characterize it as a simple design decision or choice that is entirely in their hands.

You're just using loaded and biased phrasing in a way that sounds like a judgment of lameness on the part of anyone who does.

I could easily do the same with artwork or photography or movies if I felt like diminishing them.  Artwork is just globs of paint, or smears of carbon dust.  Photographs are just ink on glossy paper, or grains of photosensitive chemicals, and movies on TV or your computer screen are just blinking pixels.  But your brain sees the patterns of real things in the paint or the pixels, no differently than it does with polygons, and you can't possibly deny that people DO find art, photographs, and movies exciting or even titillating.

Have you never been excited by a photograph or a film?  If so then I don't see why you're so different than the people you're rolling your eyes at -- and if not then I am sorry for you.
