Depends what that hatred is motivated by, surely.

Not really. People come up with stupid reasons to justify their dislikes all the time-- myself included. On the Internet, it's rather hard to tell whether someone is just being an ass, whether they have sufficient self-awareness to discern the reasons for their own dislike or whether that dislike is really as intense as it would seem from their post. Take your average 3-page venom-filled rant about a game... someone responds with "wow, well if you hate it so much why are you even here?" and they say "no, I really like the game those are just the parts I didn't like."

So it's good they feel enough about it at all to speak... but I don't trust their stated reasons any more than I would trust someone to discern how I personally feel about Battlestar Galactica based solely on hearing me rant about the ending (for the record: I love the series, but you wouldn't know that if you heard my rant). If we took everything negative as gospel, I'm pretty sure we would never do anything.

Do you have that rant written down somewhere? I'm very interested ^_^

I can't unerstand why mage would help qunary at all, instead of strangling her in their cell.

Not all Qunari mages are Saarebas apparently.

From Codex:
Those born with magic are at a terrible disadvantage, for
demons can always rob them of their self. Because of this, the Qunari name them saarebas, meaning "dangerous thing", and treat them with the utmost caution. Saarebas must be carefully controlled by someone else, an arvaarad, "one who holds back evil", because they cannot truly control themselves.
So ALL mages are either Saarebas or bs Saarebas - the unrestrained. There's only one fate from non-qun mages - either being coralled or slain.
Logical conclusion - mages should oppose and exterminate everyone who suppoprts Qun.

I know what the codex says. However, the codex isn't 100% truth. There was a discussion on this forum quite a while back, which was about why some Qunari would claim that a mage Hawke's role in the Qun would not be much different or that he would have a place in the Ben-Hassrath, when all Qunari mages were Saarebas. As it turns out, not all Qunari mages are Saarebas.

Unless there's any kind of lore that states that mages are allowed to be free within Qun, we have to assume every mage is coralled. Everything else is assumption and speculation.

The only thing we have to assume is that every Saarebas is coralled.

Saarebas is a definition of coralled mages. Bas Saarebas is a definition of uncoralled mages who should be coralled.
If you remember, Qunari Saarebas controller attack you at the very moment he undersands you are the mage.

Still doesnt mean there isnt a role for a magically gifted Qunari other than Saarebas.

For what it's worth, Mary Kirby said on the forums in the past that some Mages in the Qunari lands can become Ben-Hassrath, where they gain slightly more freedom but are still watched carefully.

I don't really want to have Tallis, specifically, be just there for me to kill her. That would be weird. But I don't want another Tallis-situation in the game. For me the annoying thing about her was that the game presumed I would go along with her/like her/not tell her to stuff herself earlier than the option presented itself. I've got your nose? Seriously? I play angryHawke. There wasn't supposed to be any nose-having...

So, just no more of that please.

And there we have it. There are obviously roles for mage Qunaris beyond the one of Saarebas.

Some mages. Slightly more freedom.
That's still worse than templars.

Arguably. I was merely saying that there are so much of Qunari society we don't know of, that to say Saarebas is the only role of a Qunari mage is a premature conclusion.

They are coralled. Indoctrinated into believing that they should be coralled.
