For male LIs, I'd like to see someone like Doc from SWToR. Someone who's kind of douchey and a womanizer on the surface, but with good intentions and a kind heart.
For female LIs, I'd like to see a tomboy, kind of like Aveline but less stoic.

Hmmm... My ideas for male love interests:
1) A sexy, manly playboy - the love 'em and leave 'em type. He has a dark sense of humor and is very confident of himself. Very capable in battle and devoted to his mission. He has a long list of conquests but doesn't talk about them; instead, he has a quiet way of exuding sexiness. He teases you and gives you a once-over from time to time. If you sleep with him too quickly, he'll write you off as another conquest and tell you sticking around is not his way. You have to work to get into his heart - let the tension build and give him time to go crazy for you. When he falls for you, he congratulates you on being the first woman to keep him interested and comments about how he'll be curious to see how a relationship will turn out. You can then tell him he better be the one to keep you interested... or maybe that sticking around is not *your* way.
2) A man who believes loving is weakness. He's strong, capable, and serious; he reads, he trains, he ponders. You see him looking all sexy, sweaty, and contemplative as he works out in the team's down-time. He's seen the destructive power of love and resists its hold on him. The last time he fell for someone, it ended badly, but he's been working hard on being a strong leader and a good man since. For the female PC, I was kinda hoping for a younger version of Duncan. Tall, dark and deadly with a sword and dagger. Quiet in a sense, but willing and able to do what needs to be done. With a deep voice that can seduce you by reading the phone book out-loud.
Then you have to have the fun to be with LI, maybe with Varric's humor and general looks. Since the odds of a dwarf LI are slim, maybe he something you least expect...a Tevinter Mage?
If there is a third option, you need someone that tugs the heart strings. Admit it gals, you love the occasional sob story and with this war between mages and templars, there has to be more than a few out there so at least one has to be on your team. Maybe a scarred warrior who has a hidden, painful past. Cliche I know, but hey Bioware is great when it comes to using cliche ideas in their games.
Since I rarely if ever play male characters when given the option to select gender, I really don't have a preference for female LI's. But I beg you for all our sanity, give the guys at least one sane option. The Nympho, witch and/or airhead options are nice, but I hope that a few guys would like a gal that that won't stab em in the back or sell their soul to a demon.

Oh, and another thing that would be nice - an equal treatment of straight man and women. It was never a problem in DA, I know, only in ME, but still, you never can be too cautious.

My desired female love interest - a chaotic neutral young girl, that doesn't give a crap about anyone's opinion, is witty, overconfident, powerful, fearless and a little crazy, preferably a mage. Joins the party for her own reasons and will leave once that is done, unless makes friends or more with the protagonist.
Gives romance a one shot, and never found a person she would be interested in romantically, yet doesn't care if it will work out or not. Also values relationships over morals.
The closest and the ONLY similar character I've seen to this was Qara from NWN2, and she wasn't even romancable. Was a shame.

For female love interest, I believe I'm not the only one who expresses interest in someone like Aveline (maybe even Kossith, eh, hint hint nudge nudge?).
For males, I wouldn't mind seeing male version of Merrill. Epic dorky guys seem to be quite rare when it comes to love interest (although Alistair is somewhat like that). Admittedly, it may be too much of an unusual character type to be viable for a love interest in a mass-marketed game, but it would be interesting to see how far we can go about subverting/inverting/averting character archetypes.
