There's concept art of a kossith in Seeker-like armor. Seems to me that the protagonist of DA3 doesn't necessarily NEED to be a boringbutt human.

*snip*

HOLY--Is this official art though?

Yup. It's in the DA2 guide.

Not a deal breaker at all, though I'd like to have race choice again. I'm fine with all races having the same voice for the PC.

Yeah but there's absolutely no reason to suspect that art is indicative of a potential player race option.

Recall the pre-release concept art for DA2 that showed a punk elf archer and several other characters that did not appear in DA2. [pic]

No, I never played anything but human in DAO. I always felt I portrayed a character as myself and immersed my self into the story.

Hawk was Hawk. He wasn't me.

It won`t ruin the game for me, but it won`t be a huge bonus either. I like to create my own character.

Didn't say that the concept art meant that race choice would ever make a comeback. Merely said that it seemed that an Inquisitor doesn't necessarily need to be human in order to make sense.

I wouuld feel annoyed because I don't like the idea to be forced as only one origin but sadly i will still play the game

I generally played humans in Origins anyway (the human noble origin ties the most into the main story at the end) so no, it wouldn't be a dealbreaker at all.

You knew this thread would come up again in the DA3 forum.

Since you still can't import your characters, will having to play as another human be a deal breaker for you?

Not a deal breaker, but I feel it would significantly reduce the replay value.

I played DA:O numerous times in order to try every single origin. Even if we can only play as a human, I think it could still be fun if we had different character backgrounds available.

Let me guess, you played a generic shield n' sword warrior too?

Deal breaker? No. HUGE FREAKING BUMMER? Yes.

I just find dwarves and elves more interesting than humans insofar as how they relate to the world and how the world relates back to them. I have no PROBLEM playing as a human, but it is a distant third option. The lack of origin stories in general is a pretty big bummer -- fixed histories greatly reduces roleplay options --but I'll be really, really disappointed if (okay, okay, WHEN) we find out that it's all human, all the time again.

Pretty sure that back when DA:O was being developed, a not insignificant number of people were against origins because they reduced roleplaying options.

And they do, if you detatch them from their having been the mechanism through which racial options were accessed.

For example, you can't realistically come up with a human ranger who lives in the forest background because the human non-mage is a noble raised in privilege at Highever.  That's a restriction.

Origins are fun in that they can kick-start several ideas from the unique perspective they offer, just like any variety in starting points would, but they do come at that cost.  That's before we even talk about zots.

Personally if I had my way, I'd have one origin, with a vague, indeterminate background, that allowed all three major races.  Sort of like the Bhaalspawn always being from Candlekeep. Human, city elf, casteless dwarf.  Does that rule out Dalish?  Pretty much, though there wouldn't be anything inherently stopping you from roleplaying a city elf who admired them and their ways.  It seems like it'd be the most efficient and liberating approach.

Not for me. Multiple origins served its purpose in DAO, in my opinion, as DA at that time was a completely new IP with a brand new world. I think multiple origins served the purpose of immersing the player into the world while at the same time learn aspects of key races.

Playing as only a human in DA2 served another purpose because one of the key thing pushed was the idea of family. And the race of human is generic and general as they come so it fits with some people in some way.

Indeed much about Origins served as an introduction to Thedas.

The origins helped introduce the races and their various social circumstances.

The "gather allies" plot sent the Warden all over Ferelden, where they'd learn about the Deep Roads/dwarves, mages/templars and their struggles, the Dalish exile, the plight of the city elves in Denerim...

What DA2 did - that a lot of people fail to appreciate, or just didn't want to see happen for whatever reason - deliberately took the world DAO showed us and demonstrated, dramatically, why it couldn't stay that way.

But that's off topic.

Honestly that's why the Orlesian Warden origin from DAOA is my favorite one because it doesn't show what your character did before he/she became a Warden so you can make up what ever you want for your character frankly I think that's how it should have been from the beginning.

but YMMV.

Not quite a deal breaker, but I hate being forced to have a certain body type in an RPG. I liked having a choice in games like Skyrim and Vampire: Bloodlines.

Not a deal-breaker per se, but I'd definitely be disappointed by it. There are other things that are more important though.

Not a deal breaker for me either, but hugely disappointing, especially if it's a Ferelden human we play as again (and not even a Chasind or Avvar or something either). I feel like they've been covered enough with the options in DAO and Hawke in DA2. Sure, it's cool if Bioware covers them again, but preferably if we get to play as something else too/instead.

I'd be happy with it, would have chosen human characters any way but it feels odd that the started the franchise with the origin stories built in (even in the title) just to desert that concept in the sequels...

There are actually no newer rpgs that lets you play as a dwarf these days (mmorpgs doesn`t count). Damn shame, since its my favorite race. I really hope I get to play one in DA2.

I would prefer to be able to choose a race, but If your character must be a human I would still be fine with it.

I always play a human anyway (mostly because I'm so damn short in real life that it's a nice change to get to be someone tall for a change), so while a choice in race would be fun (KOSSITHKOSSITHKOSSITHkthxbai), I don't mind playing a human again.

No.

Even though I think DA:O is a better game than DA2, I do like having a voice protagonist better than a silent hero. With that in mind I'm totally fine with only having the option of playing a human.

Oh dear god please be possible to have a playable Kossith character.  I would even deal with pretty much all those things I raged about in DA2 again.

Yes. I want some flexibility in my character design. There's only so much you can do with multiple personalities on the one race, before it gets needlessly repetitive - including the same personality on a character of a different gender. Besides, multiple races allows the player to give their characters different perspectives on their position in life or on other characters'.

Not at all here. Some choices would be nice, but I don't need the ZOMGHUGE amount of origins. from the first game.
