There are actually no newer rpgs that lets you play as a dwarf these days (mmorpgs doesn`t count). Damn shame, since its my favorite race. I really hope I get to play one in DA2.

Sorry that didn't work out for you.

Perhaps you'll have better luck with DA3 :wizard:

I prefer fixed race options. I have yet to see an RPG that has made background matter to a significant degree and simulatenously allowed for meaningful background options.

I would prefer to have a setting - and a story - where background matters. There's no way to do that without effectively wipping away a unique story for protagonist beyond either (i) world that is perfectly tolerant; or (ii) protagonist is part of a tolerant group/is given inherent authority based on that position.

Not at all, even if I would prefer to be able to play a dwarf.

Yes, it is. We had all this choice in DA:O, and then they just ripped it away in DA2, the need to bring it back.

Pffhlt, no. Variety is the spice of life, but I will take my next DA installment in whatever flavor I can get, LOL. Just as long as I can play a female character, it's copacetic.

I would not buy a fantasy game if I can't play as something different from a human.
It's boring!

that was one of the reasons I didn't start a second gameplay at DA2.

and it's a very big pity non use all the great potential of discrimination and difference between all the races of the Thedras.

DA2 is the only RPG I have played as a human. I didn't even buy the other game that didn't let me the chance.

Well considering we have the restrictive dialogue wheel system and a fully voiced main character again, I'm doubting we'll be anything other than a crass human who speaks in blues and reds.

True, it's unlikely we'll have the same amount of choices that we did in Origins. BW/EA is going in a different direction.

No, of course not. I'll buy DA3:I regardless.
My main characters in Origins and DAII were both humans, so playing as a fixed race wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Personally, I'd rather forgo race options if it meant having the ability to choose between interesting character backstories. Such as noble, commoner, etcetera.

More roleplaying options are always preferable but a lack of race choice is hardly my biggest problem with DA's current direction.

For me there are a couple of criterion that i want DA3 to fulfill before buying it. I don't consider any of them to be unreasonable given Bioware's history; and being able to play as different races is one of them.

I kinda liked the fully voiced Hawke, and that not something I can see happening with multiple races unless they plan on sinking some money into it(and the dwarf VA would die by the end, cursing people for ever wanting to play a dwarf). Not to mention a dwarf or elf leading the inquisition wouldn't really fit the setting.

I've recently been playing both Origins and DA2 along side each other and the lack of voice for the main character in Origins really frustrates me. I feel my Warden is just a bystander to my party and the world around him, I can't accept him as a character as easily as I can with Hawk. Unless Bioware is planning on spending all that money on multiple races having voices, I'd much rather have a voiced human than multiple silent races. I also can't see a dwarf or an elf leading the Inquisition.

I realy liked old DA:O epilogues, it was quite uniqe and interesting to start each time with new story instead of cliche with same main protagonist ... I wish that they did it in same way as in DA:O, it would be great - but I doubt :P

No. I usually only play as human in RPGs anyway. The only exception is Elder Scrolls, where I play Khajiit.

I'd probably get it anyway, since I'm like that. But I wouldn't be as hyped, I'd get only standard not collectors, and I'd probably wait my sweet time in getting it. Another game as boring humans, booo! :<
I can already play a human in (almost) every other game ever, or by, y'know, stepping away from the computer and GOING OUTSIDE. I feel the point of RP is to RP. Maybe not in the same depth as RP can go, but to play as something, someone, who is NOT you. Not a self-insert. Who makes there OWN decisions and there OWN choices. Playing a human automatically makes me feel... bland. (Plus all the elves ever do is whine about how much they hate you because your ancestors were dicks to theirs.)

I don't think it's a deal breaker, per se. But it is one more straw on the camel's back. If the rest of the game is good enough, it will overshadow the lack of racial choices. But I'd still much rather have the choices.

Dwarf pride!

I would like different origin stories to choose from. I enjoyed that in DA:O and gave my PC more of a history for me and gave me more of a connection with my character than it did in DA2. Not that I didn't enjoy DA2 but I liked that my background varied based on what I chose as a mage, fighter, rogue and then as either a human, dwarf or elf. Voices could always be given an option like in NWN where you have like 5 or six styles to choose from that would fit any of the characters depending on what you wanted your PC to sound like. (Don't know how hard this would be to do for a fully voiced character though.)  I prefer the fully voiced PC so if that limits it then fine with me to have only one race.

More like a shot in the nuts. As DA has so many cool races to choose from. And Bioware is seemingly striving to bring what Origins had, & carry it over to 3. So racial options is a must. For if you had the option to become one of the Qunari. Whom was raised completely away from the Qun, & vice versa. We all here would jump at the chance.:o Oh yea & people love Elves too.
