As most already know, the fans are pretty much an even split on making the protagonist voiced or not. Im with the people dont want the protagonist voiced, for me, the thing that got me into RPGs in the first place was the opportunity to step into the role of the main character, in other words, put myself into the game.
The reason I hate the voiced protagonist so much is because I feel it completely retracts my ROLE in the game, and inserts this other character that has its own voice while im merely guiding the character. Im not BEING the character.
I feel so strongly about this that I might actually not buy this game if I dont have a second option other than having a voiced protagonist. So, the compromise would be, simply, to give the option to turn off main character voice. You might argue that this is too much work and it wont look good, but I dont really care, it cant be much more work than implementing THREE different modes in mass effect 3 for the campaign(story mode, action mode, rpg mode), AND, even if it doesnt look good its still better than having a voiced protagonist.
Additionaly, look at how much resources a voiced protagonist, consumes, in mass effect 2, we were reduced to two conversation options most of the time, in DA 2 , 3 at all times, aside from the investigate option wich was pretty much useless.
I dont know how many people, like me feel so strongly about this that wont buy the game, but i think at least a percentage, maybe 10-15(there are 50 % who wants unvoiced protagonist) are contemplating wether to buy are not. Thats 150 000 units not sold, out of a million.
It's up to bioware of course, but I cant fathom how they can defend removing RPG apects from an RPG. Evolving RPGs to the next level should be too IMPROVE and ADD RPG aspects, not REMOVE.

This thread is so sly and has NOTHING to do with voiced characters and everything to do with the removal of RPG-ness of BioWare's games.
