Someone bitter and angry, but shielded by humour, arrogance and wit. Someone who is openly fun amongst the inevitable crazies, yet also suffers from pains and torments himself. Instead of being dominated by their tragedies, they hide it all behind fake smiles and charming misdirection.
Basically - Someone dashing, charming, a little, tiny bit arrogant and fun on the surface yet deep, complex and astonishingly darker and more jaded the further you progress into the relationship.
Since this post is getting a lot of attention, I figure I'll post this here, since it's a greater explanation of what I'm talking about, and more likely to receive notice if it's here and not on some no-name post on Page 3:
Page 3 quote from Sylvanpyxie:
It isn't a character archetype that is hiding sorrow, it's a character archetype that has moved so far beyond sorrow that all they have left is hatred, anger and bitterness. The personality I suggested isn't the type of character that would weep into his pillow, much more likely to scream bloody murder in someone's face and threaten bodily harm, or fob them off with a joke I suppose.
Now that it's clarified, I imagine there won't be a lot of interested in it.
----------
Self loathing is a powerful thing. We've seen companions hate the world, i'd like to see a companion hate themselves for a change, is that twisted? I also like the concept of a romance getting worse before it gets better.
A character that starts off charming, flirty and ultimately appealing, then he opens up and turns out to be a broken, battered mess of a man, it appeals to me. I like to be surprised, and the majority of romances in RPGs have always been exactly what they say on the tin and just once i'd like to be surprised by the content.
It also offers two distinct conclusions to the romance - You encourage his self destructive nature, turning him into a twisted, contemptuous wreck of a man, or you push him towards solemn acceptance and healing, eventually becoming a genuinely happy person.
I don't know, there's just something about the whole archetype appeals to me. Maybe it's my love of tragedy.

I like the sound of this.

A white knight
A reformed good guy w/flaws
A secretive mystery guy
A rich good looking smart guy
A poor huge heart guy
A evil option guy... might have to kill him if he doesn't reform
Someone taller than my avatar
No whiney men

So... Zevran Arainai, yes?
Pfft, on that note, I'd love to see someone like that, too. Both male LIs in DA2 were depressing ("I would drown us both in blood to keep you safe" in response to lighthearted flirting? WHAT ARE YOU DOING ANDERS?), not that they didn't have reason to be, but... man.
Put me down for an LI who's not all doom and gloom 90% of the time.

No man-boys like Alistair, or tortured souls like Anders and Fenris. Love those boys, but not for my female PC.

I was so dissapointed my Amel mage couldn't snog Duncan when she took him to his room on Origins! Come on, Ferelden's Circle was pretty wild and Duncan and his bed were right there!!motomotogirl wrote...
I think if I'm going to try playing a female PC and attempt to romance a guy, he'd have to be older, mature, kind of dark and mysterious, but good at heart. Someone like Duncan or Nathaniel. Can ya dig? xD
Anders is my favorite character on DA! Please bring him back for my Hawke!motomotogirl wrote...

And add some tortured naughty mage for my new protagonist. Normal happy puppy love like Alistair is bo-ring! My gals like some tears

. . . I think . . .
Other than that, new characters! Mage ones! Like that one mage from Dawn of the Seeker. He was pretty easy on the eyes, and seemed to be . . . well, he was a lot more patient with Cassandra than any of my PCs would have been.

yes, i know. and i've tried to be very patient with them because they've been very patient in general. but haven't they figured out by now that the blonde human males that you're set up to want are the WORST romances when you hit endgame? how many forums do i have to post that in before they understand. *facepalm*

No boring cheat like Jacob
No annyoing spirit-obsessed terorists like Anders Mk. II
No, and the Maker save us all, no never go back to the horror that was the first female-only romance in a bioware game...Anomen Delryn...this man forced me to use a little cheat to make my Bhaalspawn a lesbian just so she could get some romance after all...*sudder*
But for the "Inquisitor",for me it depends a little on the setting of the story, and how her role in this game will be...if the "Inquisitor" is something like Shepard...you know, the whole nation depends on her, everyone and their mother is bothering her with their problems, and the faces of a thousand people she could not be saved by her are haunting her in her dreams...
Well, than I hope for a male romance for her that gives her a strong shoulder to lean on, to rely on. A man that stays at her side, no matter what. He doesn't have to be special, not tormented eternally by something or whatever. He just needs to be a man. Not a boy wet behind his ears. And preferably a plain warrior, who has seen his share of bloodshed in this world...
Basically I hope for ANY kind of pairing that the NPC-counterpart to our hero plays more of a role like a real partner should. During Quests, after quests, after harsh battles, in special cutscenes and romance-dialogues. I hope the romance once serious is ever-present...until the very end...I still hated that Shepard died or whatever Bioware thinks happened without Kaidan at her side...that hurt the romantic in my cynical self more than anything else...
Oh, and it would be funny as hell if for once the romance would still have family for a change, and we could meet them! I would love a dinner at home, where the "Inqusitor" is introduced by his/her love to the parents....could make quite some interesting dialogues!
