Nathaniel. Nathanielnathanielnathaniel.
(Honestly, my Warden considered throwing Alistair over for him from their first angry exchange in Awakening.)
I concur! And no one is surprised.
I would also say Nathaniel (TO NO ONE'S SURPRISE), but I am not optimistic about him appearing in DA3 as a romance option. It's been said before he wasn't viable because he could be dead in Awakening and there is only so much handwavey-he's not quite dead yet-foo they were willing to do.
So alas, may have to settle for a skeleton in a cave or the Deep Roads. 'Bout the only Howe bone we may get.
I've cried many a Whyoware tear over this one (ok, I haven't ACTUALLY cried).

Sense of humor is a good trait to have but less than Allister's. More Garris range without calibrations.
There is no Garrus without calibrations.

Thank you, but I can't help but wonder if it's been misinterpreted. I wasn't thinking of the next "Zevran".Annie_Dear wrote:
I like the sound of this.
The character wouldn't be hiding sorrow or sadness. He would be hiding rage and overwhelming hate. It would be a great deal darker than Zevran was, assuming it ever ended up in the game(which is unlikely).

I have no name to offer but a basic archetype i'd like to see:
Someone bitter and angry, but shielded by humour, arrogance and wit. Someone who is openly fun amongst the inevitable crazies, yet also suffers from pains and torments himself. Instead of being dominated by their tragedies, they hide it all behind fake smiles and charming misdirection.
Basically - Someone dashing, charming, a little, tiny bit arrogant and fun on the surface yet deep, complex and astonishingly darker and more jaded the further you progress into the relationship.
I can get behind this.

Just...SOMEONE who won't whine and moan about every single thing when I talk to him. Had enough of that with Anders and Fenris.

If we must do comparisons, I suppose the closest thing, from a different developer, would be Bishop(NwN2). The difference would obviously be that, unlike Bishop, this character would keep the angry bitterness and jaded nature internal, outwardly portraying a deceptively happy attitude.
It isn't a character archetype that is hiding sorrow, it's a character archetype that has moved so far beyond sorrow that all they have left is hatred, anger and bitterness. The personality I suggested isn't the type of character that would weep into his pillow, much more likely to scream bloody murder in someone's face and threaten bodily harm, or fob them off with a joke I suppose.
Now that it's clarified, I imagine there won't be a lot of interested in it.
Isn't that Anders in Awakening ? He already has all that rage and bitterness you see on DA2 and it "pops out" sometimes but most of the time he hides behind a bitting humor.

That one reminds me a lot of a slightly younger Keldorn from BG2...who was by far superior to the only female romance option, Anomen...
But I do not really like the Paladin kind of characters as romances...Casavir from NWN2 was pretty boring to me...
I would prefer a chevalier that isn't exactly chivalrious. Disillusioned about his rank and nobility maybe, and not deluded by lies about "chivalrious battle" and honorable deaths...I would like that, and mix in some sarcastic and cynical humour about being an honorable knight...you could get me (or better my furture inquisitor) wit that I guess

Similar, perhaps, but in all honesty Bishop from NwN2 is probably the best comparison.Isn't that Anders in Awakening ?
Bishop portrayed hatred and bitterness, claiming that he was disgusted with the world and the people in it, however all that overwhelming anger was actually aimed at himself, for the horrible things he'd done.
Self loathing is a powerful thing. We've seen companions hate the world, i'd like to see a companion hate themselves for a change, is that twisted? I also like the concept of a romance getting worse before it gets better.
A character that starts off charming, flirty and ultimately appealing, then he opens up and turns out to be a broken, battered mess of a man, it appeals to me. I like to be surprised, and the majority of romances in RPGs have always been exactly what they say on the tin and just once i'd like to be surprised by the content.
It also offers two distinct conclusions to the romances - You encourage his self destructive nature, turning him into a twisted, contemptuous wreck of a man, or you push him towards solemn acceptance and healing, eventually becoming a genuinely happy person.
I don't know, there's just something about the whole archetype appeals to me. Maybe it's my love of tragedy.
