Dragon Age: Origins' silent protagonist wasn't perfect. It sometimes came off as clunky when your character would just stare impassively, and, it was argued, it was mainly a failure to progress into the realm of modern gaming. Others liked it more, as it gave the retro RPG feel that DA:O was going for, and allowed for more customization (in headcannon) of what the character sounded like.
When DA2 was announced as having a voiced protagonist, many viewed this as a great change, myself included. However, in retrospect, I think the greater freedom offered by the Origins method was a better way. Hawke sounding a certain way limited his/her personality quite a bit for many people, and made having multiple Hawkes a lot wierder. But most importantly, it seriously limited the variety of dialogue options, making actual roleplaying much harder.
While part of this was due to the game giving you personality options to choose from (on a sidenote, please don't do that again), it was also in part due to the simple fact of resources.

So, what about Inquisition? Do you reckon it should be a silent protaganist with more variation? Or the voiced one?

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I can work with either.

although I like the voiced PC I wouldn't mind being silent if we were able to choose different races and backgrounds similar to the Origins background stories.

I love a voiced character. I'm tired of passive silent characters. It's like I'm the last one to have a say in anything and I need to be ask before giving my response. It's no fun to play as a bunch of mute kids in pokemon and it's not gonna be fun to play as a mute character in DA. I wish they would have more voice variability, but I don't think they have the budget for it.

Gaider's already said they are sticking with a voiced protagonist. The devs know the tradeoffs of silent vs voiced, but feel that a voiced protagonist is better for the game they wish to make, and so are going with that. I don't think you'll be able to come up with an argument that they haven't already heard or considered before, but you're welcome to try.

I like to play young male characters (around 20), while Bioware likes to make their presets older. It was one of the reasons I didn't like DA2 - Hawke didn't look and sound like Bethany and Carver's older brother, but like their father. I changed the face, but the voice was not matching.
And I hated that I never knew what he would really say - not without metagaming. Quite often, if I knew in advance, I would choose different option. It completely ruined immersion for me - it was more like watching an interactive movie, then playing an RPG game.

I would much prefer silent character over this. But if they manage to find a solution for this, I'd love the voiced character.

Would much prefer unvoiced but I can deal with a voiced PC if they fix the dialogue wheel/paraphrasing and if he/she has a voice I like. Do not like Hawkes voice at all.

If we were getting a silent protagonist (which will not happen as stated by devs) I would probably wait to play the game for when it hits the bargain bin if at all.

I'd prefer a fully voiced protagonist, but a silent one would work too.

I liked them both but for different reason. Either one will work.

I have come up with a compromise I believe everyone will concede is the most reasonable way forward.
Have everyone be voiced by Grey DeLisle.

Problem solved.

This is a subject which has been done to death.  At this point I'd be disappointed if both sides of the debate weren't fully capable of switching roles and playing Devil's advocate with each other just for the purpose of demonstrating how thoroughly familiar we all are with the pros and cons of each.

The devs have stated several times that they are staying with a voiced protagonist, and as far as I'm concerned it's the right decision.

I wonder if they release a toolset for voice mod like allowing you to voice your characters, how many would use it though? It would only work for subsequent playthrough since you probably don't want to spoil yourself. That sounds pretty far-fetched. I really need some coffee now. lol

With advances in audio processing technology (depending on what hardware limitations they will face), it is possible to take one voice and make many different, believable voices of different genders and stereotypes.

It is possible if there is enough time to do it and if they do not run into an issue of hardware limitation.

Can we see your Sylvius the Mad impression?

Anyway we it comes to BioWares games I prefer the Voiced. Silent works better for me in the Fallout and TES games.

Recognizing the fact that Bioware is unlikely to ever return to voiceless protagonist, I'll say I think they hit their high water mark with Mass Effect 2 in terms of balancing diverse options for the player to express their character vs. maintaining the structure of the story. I.e. Shepard could be a naive, idealistic asari-loving paragon or a pretty ruthless hardass who was just looking for the first reason to throw in with Cerberus. Or (s)he could be a pragmatic centrist. The interupts made it even better. I could be happy with that system again. Oh, and absolutely minimal autodialogue.

Unvoiced with more dialogue options. Saves resources and money to spend on other things as well.

I'd like a voiced protagonist whose personality isn't simply one note or stuck in snarky mode, which is where I think Hawke fell flat for many.

If we can have one where we inform what the personality is and the choices we make are reflected then I think that is the best option.

Not on cue, no.  But I've adaquetely represented his arguments before.  He's very consistent and his positions are not difficult to understand, only for me to (personally) relate to.

This argument has been beaten to death. Voiced PC has already been confirmed. Arguments on how to handle the voiced PC would be much better.

VO is confirmed for the player character. While there are pros and cons for either, BW is going with VO moving forward.

I would like the protagonist to be voiced. IMO it worked well for DA2 and the Mass Effect series
