Are Fans Taking Note of BioWare Statements for DA3?

Mass Effect 3 had a lot of (in hindsight) fairly unsubstantiated pre-release statements that inferred way more then was finally delivered in the game.

Given how these kinds of claims made prior to release didn't meet expectations - and if anything, excacerbated the whole contoversy,, are people going to pre-emptively note statements about DA3 prior to DA3's release?

I really really hope the game does awesome, and if the team really does live up to what they are saying in public *now* then hats off!

We expect some hyperbole, but I am worried that there will be a repeat to the extent which happened with ME3.

ME3 is a good game, but I think it's marketing could have been handled a lot better. - thats all :)

So given how consumer oriented I personally am, I do hope someone is going to scrutinize any DA3 statements and take them to task if they do not deliver without any explanation as to why within the release window.

I also think , that if they do deliver on *what they say* then we should reward them :)

Because Videogames :)

Great quote from John Epler :)

One of our goals for DA3 is to adopt a
'show, don't tell' attitude when it comes to promoting the game
pre-release. That's why we're not blitzing you with tons of pretty (and
contextless) screenshots at this point in time - because we're not ready
to show you what you want to see.

Undoubtedly this will lead to a
lot of the opposite sort of complaint - that we're simply not showing
enough. That's fair, but I think it's better to have a slower trickle of
information at first as long as everything we're showing you folks is,
in fact, 'real'. We feel our work speaks for itself, and we want to make
sure that we're at a point where we can show you things in context that
allows them to speak for themselves.

DA:O was advertised as dark fantasy but didn't really contain any horror elements. There is a noticeable disconnect between the marketing team and development team when it comes to Bioware games. Given its actually pretty normal for a marketing team to have a disconnect with the development team for any product.

Maybe they should have the marketing team read the plots and play the finished portions of the game before they prepare statements.

It should be obvious to ignore marketing/pr/propaganda speak. Just pay attention to concrete stuff, such as the game is based on the frostbite 2 engine.

I appreciate this, but I have one question: Does this mean we will see gameplay trailers before (or instead of) CGI trailers?

I think this is a great idea, after DA2 which in my opinion was a terrible game, I am looking for improvements in DA3 and i would rather see these improvements than hear about them  =]

I'm willing to wait until there something to actually see. Patience isn't an issue for me. I'd rather they'd actually have the content to back up their statements this time around, if that means waiting a bit longer I can live with that.

Waiting is hard. Even when you know the wait will be worth it, and especially if you suspect you're likely to be dazzled by the first reveal.

Something I really liked before the release of DA:O was the videos that could be found on the DA:O website where a developer would play through maybe 10-15 minutes of the game and explain about what was showed in the video. Like a 15min video showing the impact of what origin you chose or a video of mage combat.
Those videos were great in showing the game but also giving a bit of insight in how the developers had been thinking when they made the game.

yes. I think that's a good idea.

And, although I can't believe I'm saying this, I ...agree w/WSandista. I think gameplay trailers would be preferable to CGI stuff. I mean, I like CGI, but I'm at the point where either it's in the game, or  it's a lie. The CGI is a lie. heh, heh.

And reading this statement from Aaryn Flynn, it sounds so good. This is what I want. And, yes, I'm excited. But there is still a part of me that is skittish.

I want to believe. And in the future I want to feel that I can trust BW's word on what they're putting out. The DA team seems to be aware of this. They seem to understand that there is some rebuilding of the Trust Bridge to be done.

So, I appreciate the wait til we have something "real" to show. I'm good with that. I'm wishing the best for you, BW. Out of purely selfish reasons. I mean, hey, you make a great game---I get a great game. Here's to a win/win scenario.

"The Dragon Age team has been working on Dragon Age 3:

Inquisition for almost two years now," said Aaryn Flynn, General

Manager of BioWare Edmonton and BioWare Montreal. "We've been poring

over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our

fans. They haven't held back, so we're not either. With Dragon Age 3:

Inquisition, we want to give fans what they're asking for — a great

story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep

customization and combat that is both tactical and viscera
l."

It's general good practice not to trust the word of people trying to sell you things. The devs that grace us once in awhile around here do often engage in meaningful and helpful discussions, and I appreciate them for it. But marketing? ... just no.

Great to hear, it gets a bit annoying when info is released and then people analyze the hell out of it trying to find some way to twist it into something negative.

I don't really think it would be fair to get upset if something didn't play out that was said at this stage in the games production. Plans change, unexpected difficulties arise.

It's when I feel that I'm being misled by words from nearer release that is problematic.
