This is a sad evening for me. Ray and Greg, you will be missed dearly by me and many other fans. Despite this, I really wish both of you guys all the best in whatever you've come up as your next endeavors, I hope they really turn out great. :)

Having said that, I can't help but notice people are already mourning the death of BioWare and seeing the long arm of EA behind it all. I will try my best to be unbiased while writing this, but I have to tell you this:

People at BioWare, it's up to you to maintain the reputation that your great name has deserved over the almost two decades of its existence. It's up to you to carry on with the tradition that has brought us, your fans, some of the best video games ever created. It's up to you to live up to the expectations of the people who have become your fans because of titles such as Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

And most of all, it's up to you to prove wrong everyone who is now talking about the death of BioWare or the EA conspiracy. It's up to you to regain the faith of those people who have stopped believing in you and are now saying that BioWare is long dead.

It depends on you and on nobody else. Just like we, as fans and players of your games, have had to take the responsibility to save the world or the known universe from evil, corruption and destruction, now it is your turn to take the responsibility for accomplisihing an even greater goal.

Your quest now is to save BioWare. We, as your fans, are your allies and can provide help and advice, but ultimately the fate of BioWare is in your hands.

Sincerely,
A fan

Thanks for all the amazing stories, and adventures! You'll be missed!!! I grew up with your games, as I was 10 years old, when Baldur's Gate came out. After that, I always had a next great Bioware game to look forward too. You spoiled as all with those nice titles. :-) I always looked for your names on the credits list, as a familiar "face"...
I wish you all the best in your life and future projects! <3

There hasn't been a good bioware game since Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 1, and that was finished just before EA bought bioware (DAO was I mean, ME1 was all Bioware). ME2 was decent, ME3 was ok, even more linear and a horrible ending (the crappy DLC ending sucked as well) than ME2. TOR was a failed single player MMO, that got boring real quick. Galaxies was such a better MMO.

Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR were awesome games, everything after DAO has gone downhill, now Bioware isn't a respected company anymore.

RIP Bioware, good luck to the doctors in future endeavours.

This does not seem right. I think its all EA. Ray is going to feed the bums in new York, while Greg intends to blog about beer. The stuff they are changing Bioware for is simply rediculous. Looks like EA completely destroyed them and booted these individuals into the mud mentally.

Yeah, because videogames are the most important things in life. They can do what they want, just as they did back then when they founded BioWare.

Histroy proved it countless of times, when you sell out, loose your independence and freedom, your dead. just look what is happening to Blizzard once they sold out to Activision.

Shocking news: People have passions for the "strangest" things. That doesn't mean he just wants to get drunk. That's pretty offensive to say about someone you don't even know.

If he likes to drink some beer, if he's interested in beers from all over the world, how they're crafted, why the **** shouldn't he do it? He sure earned enough money to do something he really wants to do.

The pessimism in this thread is rising...

It's sad too. Ah well, people are people.

That really sucks but good luck to both of them. I'm sure they know they can set up a kickstarter when/if they ever feel the urge to make a new game.

And so the dream is over - or is it ? A song my brother in law sometimes sings is this one:
for everything there's a season under the sun.

And Ray and Greg's season for making videogames just ran out. And now there starting on a new season in their lives. And I do wish them well - in their new seasons in their lives.

As we say in my native tongue:

Held og lykke i fremtiden...

(good luck in/with the future)

^^^ same

Now that you mention it, that's quite likely.

They're retiring from gaming altogether. Greg is going to drink his way around the world (a tour of craft breweries, for which he has my eternal envy), and Ray is moving towards entrepreneuriship and investment.

My deepest sympathies, Mr. Epler.  My town has two craft breweries and we're getting a third soon, so fortunately I don't have to travel too far for such a tour.

They're smart gentleman, I'm sure they'll have no problem succeeding in what they want to do.

That being said, it's very sad that they're leaving, and I hope this decision of theirs wasn't too heavily influenced by EA.

Riiiight. It couldn't have been all the crap they got from "fans" like you for the ending of Mass Effect 3 and for DA2.

Both games were amazing games. Dragon Age 2 has to be one of the greatest stories told in a game with exceptional writing to boot.

Factor in all the hate mail, the blame on them for joining EA, the lack of civility here in the forums, etc. Get bashed enough for what you consider great games and you would probably retire too.

...

Ray and Greg, from all the great games you brought to us, I Wish you both all the best for your retirement. It is sad to see you go. You brought us some of the greatest RPG experiences available in a video game.

I wanted to actually address this paragraph but I'm pretty certain you're be sarcastic so I won't bother.

DA2's writing was so bad it made my IQ drop by 30.

That no hearing, the truth.
EA and the "fans" have the pressure on them. It is sad and unfortunate.
Good luck to them from the heart.

Really, it is probably just a 5 year clause in their buy out contract that is over. EA announced they bought Bioware in 2007 October, IIRC.

As for retiring from gaming, I bet they had a non-compete in the buy out contract too.

A loss for gaming, and the nail in Bioware's coffin tho. Sad sad day.
