Anyway, like I stated numerous times before: There is only one way to continue the series: Bring back Shepard. Without Shepard and his crew, its not Mass Effect, its just some Scifi. It will dissapear between all the other franchises on that area.
I just can't imagine playing a game that calls itself "Mass Effect" without playing Commander Shepard with his team. He is the games most essential part, he defines what you call "Mass Effect". I know, this is hard to say but he is even more important than Tali!
But to come back to the topic: Even if they brought Shep back, this could only be done in these ways:
First: They create a prequel. And I bet, this will end up like Halo Reach. The prequel that contains more advanced guns and stuff than the original games.
Second: They bring a Sequel. This will unlikley happen, because it would define a canon option for the end-decision and they already stated ME3 would be the end of Sheps storyline. Furthermore what could they bring up that could be more epic than the Reaper War! Hard to imagine.
Third: A parrelel story to the games in which you meet Shep. This would mean you dont play as him-> not good.
It is good to hear that BW is listening to ideas. Nevertheless I am not looking forward to the next game. It will never be able to compete with the trilogy or to compete with Shepard and his crew.
Maybe I will play it shooter-like if it will be a parrallel story to the trilogy but I definitly won't try out a new ME based RPG thats not buildt up around the galaxys hero.
My opinion: BW should invest the effort in reworking all 3 games to Mass Effect 3 quality/gameplay/item system etc. and THEN release the trilogy edition as one game. plus adding new contnet in between the 3 episodes. That would be incredible.

I don`t think that Bioware will bring out this DLC just after there there an n7-day and the triology came out - I believe the big surprise on the firat n7-day will be the omega dlc and multplayer content which belongs to it (perhaps new maps like one of the afterlife or so). I t doesn`t make sense to event a day then you celebrate mass effect and then release a dlc just before/after it.

I would have to disagree. It's not just "some scifi" without Shepard. I love the races and how they ended up being. (most, anyway) And i'll be disappointed if they keep dragging the idea of Shepard. Shepard had three games completely devoted to him/her, I think it was stated to be a trilogy of "Shapard's story" from the start. Some prequel with Shepard would be disappointing to me, everyone already knows what will happen and how Shepard will end up.
People get attached to characters, which is fine. But I don't think Shepard is the driving force of Mass Effect, the races/setting are. And I'd welcome a new player character, the amount of bs needed to keep Shepard in everything wouldn't be worth it.

Nostalgia. Also Cerberus is so much more fun to shoot.
Here's hoping we'll get to shoot at something other than reapers and Cerberus for a change, what I wouldn't give to sight down a vorcha, even a varren.
Those were good times when BioWare games/DLC focused primarily on the story, rather than on shooting at someone/something.

Yes, but read the comments above. Many people expect the "Retake Omega" DLC to be mainly about fighting and shooting, and not so much about the story. I'm curious whether the DLC will have any actual impact on the plot of ME3.

Who cares about Omega, they basically confirmed that they are thinking about continuing the franchise with future games
that's because bioware has no original ideas, and they are looking to drain every penny from this fanbase

There's nothing wrong with creating a new story within an existing universe, they have put a lot of effort into creating it why not see what other directions they can go in? 343 Industries are doing the same thing with Halo, same universe, new story.
If BioWare announced a Mass Effect 4 along the lines of "And suddenly Shepard is alive and some reapers still exist!" then you could say they want to suck the money from the fanbase.
Edit: To clear up confusion, I'm not saying I don't want story in Omega, that's what I crave above all else. I was just lamenting that ME3 doesn't offer much in the way of diverse enemies outside its two main enemy factions.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Destroy will be canon. Perhaps our Shepard with the LI will appear in cameo roles... Yeah, I can dream.

This two years between ME1 and ME2 could be really interesting...you could watch Liara becoming an Information Broker.
I hope the new game is more or less fixed to Omega...you could play an undercover agent (nearly every race would be possible) which can be loyal to his goverment or loyal to the most unsurpassable...you could supprt Aria or Cerberus and meet people like:
Garrus (as Arcangel), Liara (while she is saving Shepard), Thane (i am sure he is also working on omega), Zaeed, Morinth, Kai Leng (see the mass effect books), Kasumi (+friend?), Feron(Liaras friend and a Shadow Broker employee) and lots of people from the Mass Effect books.

This. There is not much more to do with Shepard. A prequel with that character would also be really boring. It's time to play a new protaganist. and familiarize ourselves with new characters.Razhathael wrote...

Maybe you go rogue and travel to other worlds to find evidence yourself of the conspiracies. I actually rather like the C-Sec idea, we could also work it as a Spectre story as well, a spectre (from any of the races even the ones without a council seat) getting trained and then discovering a conspiracy by a random councillor (it could perhaps change depending on what race you are, for example if you were a Krogan the Turian and Salarian councillors could be up to something.) I honestly think this idea (as well as one someone said a few pages back, i forget who posted it sorry.) has real merit, and they could let us have armour customisation like in ME2 and ME3 but also bring back the hardsuits from ME1 as well, so you can buy complete sets but still change the pattern on it, the colour of said pattern and put logos on it.
