Sad, but doesn't seem to out of place to be honest.
The docs cashed in when Bioware was acquired by EA. And from what you can read on various game development related sites; game development isn't always a picnick.

If you are worried about the Docs retiring then maybe you should become a backer on Obsidian Entertainment's Project Eternity! ;-)

I would rather leave this open, so lay off the insults and name calling or more people will be banned.

It is a sad day as Ray & Greg are good friends. This doesn't mean the end of BioWare, Mass Effect or Dragon Age and it doesn't mean the end of our friendships with Ray & Greg. I'm sad to see them go, but treasure our time working together.

Well this is the end of Bioware if founders leave the company they made. There is no Bioware with those two. Pretty much we can say it's just another EA development studio.

I'm sad but I hope Ray and Greg will make another development company. They should start some project on kickstarter. I'm giving money to them to make old style rpg game like BG or NWN.

From what I've read they are going to do something in the beer industry. So I crack open a cold one and toast to them both. Between Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Knights of the Old Republic, they've provided some damn good video game entertainment for me over the years. Here's to ya.

*Holds back rage*

Okay. I'll just make a quick post. I'm very sorry to hear Ray & Greg are now leaving and I wish them the best in their future endev...ao...ur...s... (sp?).

Then again, Bye Bye ByoWare, time to abandon the TORtanic before we sink with it! Byyyyeeee! *Chaching!* $$$

And now they are gone, the rEApers can complete their harvest.

The cycle continues.

I also wish them the best, and will point out that as founders of the company they've been making games for what, nearly 20 years now?
Sometimes people just want a break, or try something new, it doesn't mean anything is particularly wrong.
When Bismark left political office, having served as Chancellor of Prussia during the period when all of the individual german states were unified, and later served as the Prime Minister of the German Empire, he said (translated from German of course) "I'm bored. All of the great things have been done."

I wish the Docs well and I hope Bioware will maintain the standard of excellence that brought us gamers games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age: Origins.

But, honestly Dragon Age 2 disappointed me and Mass Effect 3 felt like taking a beloved family pet to the veterinarian to be put down.

I think I will still give Bioware a chance but I am now in the wait and see demographic.

You'll have to excuse us, gamers don't do well well with change. Actually, we're awful with change.

Now try to picture is as a hoarde of gamers who are also staff and you know where we're at. That said, we're not paniking or anything. The games are still on the way (in fact, you should read Aaryn's blog where he announces the next ME3 DLC and other juicy bits). Little has actually changed that impacts fans.

Obviously, it'll take more than me saying it. If you're not going to believe Ray & Greg in their blogs, what I say is much less relevant. We'll just have to keep making games, not collapse, make them better than before, etc. Then the proof will be tehre.

now since there retiring is there any names that ea is trying to replace them with?

Good luck to the pair of them, so many great memories.

Although it seems a bit odd they are retiring together.

So EA's method of "replacing" people is to promote them, give them more responsibility and control for 4 years before accepting their retirement? Sounds a little inefficient to me. I'm going to go with reality rather than the wacky conspiracy theories, if it's all the same to you.

Is the company going to be worst or better? I9 think too they need to fix the mods on the forums also. I love Mass Effect and most of BioWare/EA games too.

so we see eye to eye that people believe conspiracy theories over facts?

This really is the end of Bioware.
With the doctors gone, there's no one to apply first-aid for when the devs get paper cuts. Next thing you know, all the employees will have died from blood loss.

Every developing team that stayed in the business for so long deserves respect. They might have ended like Westwood...

Westwood had been around since '85, Origin Systems made a bunch of epic games (responsible for the wing commander series amongst other noteworthy games), now they are nothing more than a name for EA's digital purchase and download system, Bullfrog is another 80's game developer/publisher that EA bought and dissolved after Populous II, and the first two Syndicate games.

I must be old because I remember the companies EA bought and turned into dust, oddly the good developers that had a massive following.

But I wish them well on their future endevours, and look forward to Zeschuk potentially interviewing Will Wheaton on his home brewing experiences.

Ok, now Im worried. I saw this coming from a long time ago, but I thought they would make an indie company, free of companys like EA. And I have an idea who is behind this.

Anyway, you deserve all my respect, and I wish all the luck in your new adventures. Thank you.

If devs could read this, I personally think that is inappropriate to announce a new ME just after two partners (and thanks to them by giving us such great games) left the team. My opinion.

Show some respect people!  Whether you like EA or not, the Doctors deserve way more than rubbish conspiracy theories.  It's been five years since EA acquired Bioware, but they are the founders.  They are responsible for everything Bioware has done, including the "Old Bioware" all you whiny knuckleheads like to compare the new EA Bioware to.  It doesn't matter if they are jumping ship or if they actually just want to live out other aspects of their lives, they deserve your appreciation and thanks regardless.

Anyways, thank you Ray and Greg.  It's sad to see you guys go, but I wish you the best in your new endeavors.  Thanks for all the fun.

Indeed. People have been "predicting" the "end of BioWare" since at least 2002. no matter how many times these "psychics" turn out to be wrong, it only takes one "right" prediction for them to say "see? I told you so!"

Presumably, all of these latest developments were revealed at the latest company meeting and BioWare wanted to give some good news to the public along with the sad news.

It's not a thing. Our Gregorian calendar "ends" every year. All we do is flip the page or buy a new calendar and life goes on. Doom-and-gloom prophecies and conspiracy theories are simply more dramatic and fun to think about.
