It's not a thing. Our Gregorian calendar "ends" every year. All we do is flip the page or buy a new calendar and life goes on. Doom-and-gloom prophecies and conspiracy theories are simply more dramatic and fun to think about.

wile true as far as conspiracy theories go.. thats a whole nother debate my friend

Wish them all best with all their future endeavours. They are true entrepreneurs who created an ambititious company that has experienced amazing success (creatively and financially). They will be leaving behind a company which has a huge amount of love and respect from those within the industry and (a large portion of) the gaming community.

Regardless of how successful or passionate you can be, there is the inevitable need for a change at some point, a desire to test yourself with new challenges to invigorate your spirit. It's a risk to move on from something successful and relatively 'safe', but taking those risks is what makes life exciting.

No, it's the other way around - they left because Bioware is no longer making the games they founded Bioware to make. Well, that's what I'm reading between the lines anyway.

Sad day indeed. It must have been a very hard decision and it doesn't sound like it was made just recently, but it's been a process. I'm not buying into the conspiracies, that's too easy of an option.

But whatever the reasons I hope they gain what they seek by leaving and that Bioware continues to create wonderful RPGs for us to enjoy, rage over and just be passionate about.

Interesting.

Was tihs not predicted by some?

I remember a couple months ago there were rumors that Greg was leaving Bioware. EA's PR department denied this.

You also had posters theorizing about the Doctors losing control to EA. You also had others calling those who made these predictions "tin foil hatters" to discredit them. Just because someone doesn't take a PR statement at face value, it doen't mean they are a delusional paraniod.

Another thing I've noticed. When ever upper management of a company or business leaves, they always seem to be retiring. They never get fired.

Corporations almost never fire senior management, they are allowed to "retire" so both can save face. It's a fairly common practice.

I'm not saying Bioware is in trouble or that this is the case with the Doctors, but I can see how others would draw that conclusion.

The Doctors have been running things for a long time now, so the desire to move on is understandable.

Show some respect people!  Whether you like EA or not, the Doctors deserve way more than rubbish conspiracy theories.  It's been five years since EA acquired Bioware, but they are the founders.  They are responsible for everything Bioware has done, including the "Old Bioware" all you whiny knuckleheads like to compare the new EA Bioware to.  It doesn't matter if they are jumping ship or if they actually just want to live out other aspects of their lives, they deserve your appreciation and thanks regardless.

Anyways, thank you Ray and Greg.  It's sad to see you guys go, but I wish you the best in your new endeavors.  Thanks for all the fun.

Just because someone may have done something pretty cool once upon a time, that doesn't make every subsequent action beyond reproach.

How tragic, those two were quite entertaining intellectually.

But whatever, here's another conspiracy for the masses.

They were getting bored when they signed over to EA, so they decided they wanted to cash out on EAs paycheck ;).

Well, here's my take:

Sorry to hear the news, I wish them the best.

But truthfully? I didn't know who they were, still don't know what they did at Bioware, and don't expect anything to really change -- oh, sure, maybe over the course of years, but that would happen anyway. Companies move forward, new ideas occur, franchises start and franchises decline.

Yes, I still hold Bioware at fault for still not fixing ME3's endings (read: adding new endings, not tacking onto existing ones), but I also still have hope that they will give us the change we need to move on and not only enjoy the current game, but future games either in the Mass Effect universe, or just games made by Bioware in general.

The Doctors had nothing to do with any of that, so it's not really relevant to my interests at the moment, but I do understand the gravity of the moment, I just think people are making a bigger deal about it than it deserves in light of other issues that have yet to be resolved.

Wish them well personally and don't read into it. This is pretty normal when companies are acquired.

Farewell to two legends. They both have my utmost respect, and gratitude for all of the things they've contributed to videogaming. I hope they both continue to have very successful careers.

Not gonna lie, though: this IS the end of an era. The two most influential employees ever at Bioware are gone, leaving Bioware's direction almost solely up to EA. Who's going to be in charge of the studio's creative vision now?

I asked that of Chris Priestly earlier and he disappeared.

This really is the end of Bioware.
With the doctors gone, there's no one to apply first-aid for when the devs get paper cuts. Next thing you know, all the employees will have died from blood loss.

Indeed. People have been "predicting" the "end of BioWare" since at least 2002. no matter how many times these "psychics" turn out to be wrong, it only takes one "right" prediction for them to say "see? I told you so!"

lol kind of reminds me of the guy who predicted the world will end last march

and guess what we are still here apparently

as far as 2012 go's and the mayan thing........ i admit thats still a what if to me

Can't let those things get to you espically since most of them are so Vague you can point out any event as the end of the world. People say it's the end of  the world because of a few things but don't bother mentioning the other 100s of events that were considered the end of the world but wasn't.

Now to get back on topic. I wish nothing but good fortunes as the Docs retire.

Hopefully they aren't cashing out (seeing the direction Bioware has been heading in recently)...

That said, what exactly did they do in recent years (as far as Bioware's projects are concerned)?

Their company's lost a large chunk of its autonomy, its creativity, and its prestige and its popularity. The cynic in me is not surprised by the timing.

Still, good luck to them.

I'm a little nervous about our future over here, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yesterday I would have said they might have been the ones pushing Bioware down the path we've seen them taking the last few years, based on the comments they've made about EA and particularly the 'brilliance' of EA's leadership.

But considering they both resigned at the same time, I almost wonder if they've been running interference these last few years, being good obedient yesmen in public, while providing cover for the studios long enough to get DA2, TOR, and ME3 out the door in as unmolested a form as possible when working with EA.

Little hint: They FOUNDED Bioware. They are responsible for bringing these talented people together, they were the vision of this company. They are WHY Bioware has always has the reputation of the strongest RPG and story writing around.

That's the big deal. Holy crap educate yourselves. :?

Let's start with wikipedia at the very least: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioWare

You can see there, they have been through a lot of ups and downs, they were not always a big giant and this isn't their first low point. But it is the first time the founders are leaving. This either means massive changes in Bioware corporate or that as you said things will go on as before. Especially IF they have been preparing for this for many months if not years. Which right now is my guess, but I can't know that for sure.
