or maybe they just wanted to retire? biowares been around since what 95? i say those guys deserve retirement

Yes, it's not inconceivable that they both independently decided that right now was a good time to retire; however, the fact that they share a press release makes me think that there might have been a trigger...

You'll have to excuse us, gamers don't do well well with change. Actually, we're awful with change.

Now try to picture is as a hoarde of gamers who are also staff and you know where we're at. That said, we're not paniking or anything. The games are still on the way (in fact, you should read Aaryn's blog where he announces the next ME3 DLC and other juicy bits). Little has actually changed that impacts fans.

Obviously, it'll take more than me saying it. If you're not going to believe Ray & Greg in their blogs, what I say is much less relevant. We'll just have to keep making games, not collapse, make them better than before, etc. Then the proof will be there.

Actions speak louder then words. Any attempt to re-assure players by
anyone employed directly or indirectly by bioware ( that includes
current mods "not working for bioware") is always going to give birth to
conspiracy theories. Not to say i don't believe you but there will
always be that one chcken that will see a metal star fall from overhead
and automatically think the sky is falling. The conspiracy is often more exciting then the truth and that will always draw others to it. You will likely find that 90% of anything people say on this forum in regards to their belief in conspiracy's and how much they hate bioware now is in fact false. They likely enjoy seeing these kind of reactions from you lot and that is why they say it. So as i said action not words.

i think its good Bioware dies slowly, rather than going down with another bang when DA3 turns into the same mess we have seen for the cupple of years

You know, I've become a big proponent for trying to get Mass Effect's endings changed because they're so gorram awful, but I don't think what you said there is entirely fair. Yes, judge Bioware on their actions -- I plan to (hint, hint, make new endings!) -- but don't judge them on their founders leaving. That's pretty standard procedure after a company is acquired, several months or years after the deal is signed, and that's not even accounting for their personal reasons.

1995-2012 is a 17 years. The gaming industry ages in dog years, I swear to dog (sic), so that's pretty darn good run.

Their recent positions had nothing to do with development itself, it was more of "administration and menagement"

The future BioWare games will be absolutely the same with or without them. They were not fundamentally involved into development of the games like for example Mr. Hudson, Mr. Walters or Mr. Weekes.

You ppl need to lay off the conspiracy theories.

As the general manager of BioWare, and senior EA executive, Dr. Ray Muzyka could affect budgets and schedules for BioWare games. I think it has a lot to do with the development itself.

Thats what EA does, he only coordinates between his teams and EA.

Also, I was refering to the creative development. Meaning, the actual content of the game is not really influenced by him. Mr. Hudson and his team will do what they want with Mass Effect with or without BioWare's founders. They will tell the story they want to tell.

Sorry to hear this, but I'm sure they wont look back. Greg looks like he'll have a blast with his beer show. And I'm sure Ray will move on to Greener pastures also.

Regardless, I can see BioWare changing a bit from this, I just hope it doesn't impact us fans. We can only see with future products.

Good luck to Ray and Greg in their future endeavours.

PS- If I was a mod I'd lock this thread for not being ME3 related. Image IPB

Well I have to say that is sad. Why coiuldn't they have stayed around until DA 3? Gone out with a bang but I guess bowing out gracefully is the better way to go. I hope them all the best and that the beer diraies gets off to a good start. Oh and if they ever need someone as a taste tester for all that hooch then i offer my services, free of charge. XD Still, now's the time to look to the furture. Theres a whole load of oppertunity out there and I as a gamer am eager to see what else Bioware makes. Anyways, if you see them, tell nthem MR heatsink says good luck and thanks for the childhood.Image IPB

Develops, Writers, Artists come and go. Sometimes for a new perspective; sometimes for a break; sometimes for retirement; sometimes because it is time...

Greg Zeschuk (since I met him ever so briefly at the hotel at last year's E3) seems like a very nice and friendly person, and now I totally want to have a beer with him... literally!

It's kinda weird to say but I am going to miss Ray's Presentation mannerisms. I always found it fascinating how he would always cup his hands together and always maintained that "cup look" when pointing out features.

No matter what side of the fence you are on nowadays, I am eternally grateful for the passion they had and that they were willing and worked hard to share it with the rest of us.

First Drew (we have already seen the consequences from that), now these 2.

Doesn't really raise my hopes for future BioWare projects...

Drew K, Armando Troisi, these 2...

I'll still be interested in BW projects. But I sure won't be expecting anything even remotely near the standards ME1/2 set for video games as an art form.

Speaking of which, Armando Troisi is working on Halo 4 and is bringing his "players choose the story" mindset to that game. ...It's just too damn bad I don't have an Xbox

Awesome, now grab all the remaining talent at BioWare, try to get some of the old people you lost over the years back, start a new company and go back to making quality games. And don't sell your soul to EA this time...

this!! over and over this!!!

Sounds more like it was planned when EA bought BioWare. Buyout ?

Thank you for the games. To bad you made the decision to sell BioWare to a publisher that is wel known to destroy developers.

I would have probably done the same. I would be swimming in millions now !

Goodbye, thank you and good luck !

I wish to thank the two for the great games they have given us and wish them the best in their future undertakings. An I believe that even those the two are leaving or retiring from Bioware that this company will keep making great games even with EA as part of them.

The news came unexpected, and I'm baffled.
Although I didn't like what's happened during the last 6 months - I mean the ending of ME3 (the whole game, actually) and the way BW handled the backlash - I've never wished the company bad, but if this new doesn't sound like a further step to the end of the company I don't know what else it means.
I hope I'm wrong, and above all I hope BW will earn back the praise of the gamers they lost during the past two years.
Damn, EA looks more like a grave-digger than a publisher.

Good luck to Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk.
And good luck to BioWare...

sad news.

Obviously its not a coincedence they have retired as i feel making great games with passion and love isnt as easy when thousands are involved and EA looking over your shoulder. Makes me sad.

I think even bioware would admit there quality had dropped recently , it was still higher than most but lower than ther best, they should never have got involved with SWTOR.

I still think DA2 and ME3 were ok games , but very average bioware games. I pray you guys/girls at bioware can make genuinely world class games that are remembered for decades again.

I want more like BG , KOTOR , ME1 and DA-O . The markets there , you know these are your best games . Stop changing what's great to sell a few more units in the short term. Your company got respected and profitable from making a certain type of game , get back to doing what your great at.

Not the best of news but not the worst I have had today. I have mixed feelings about this announcement but really in the end it comes down to the fact that an era has ended and a new one begins. I am guessing that over the next few weeks we'll have some more announcements and from those we'll get to see what the new era of BioWare may hold for us.

I don't see any signs of 'forced retirement'.

Both of them retired at the same time, and it followed on the heels of DA2 not meeting expectations, the ME3 ending controversy, and TOR going belly up.  TOR bleeding suscriptions and going free-to-play in less than a year after release is arguably the worst of the three for the company, with rumors that more than $200 million dollars were spent in development.

Considering the timing and the fact that both of them retired simulataneously, it is too much of a coincidence for it to be a coincidence, IMO.

Well, I wish the Doctors well, they had a great run and I'm sad to see them go.
I'm only really curious as to why they are leaving at the same time. No doubt some conspiracy theorist has an answer.

Well this clearly means the demise of BioWare as we knew it.

Three failures in a row was just too much.

I for one will cherrish my fond memories of how Bioware used to be, not what it has become after EA took it over.
