Only time will tell if their leaving has any impact on the quality of games that BioWare develops.  I don't hold out much hope that this will mean anything good for BioWare.

Hopefully they get to enjoy retirement.

Yeah, after the last few titles being as they were, it doesn't look good for the heads of the company to leave like this. I hope Bioware can make a come back, but wow, this seems like it will hurt the brand and future path of the company after it's lost so many long term key influences in game developement and direction.

No, no. That link doesn't seem secure. I need someone like Chris Priestly to confirm that the people who gave us BioWare have left.

It takes a strong man to deny what's right in front of him.

I think he's being sarcastic...

Eh, I got to quote Spec Ops: The Line anyway.

I believe Ray and Greg didnt like the new path EA was taking Bioware and decided to sell Bioware and retire. Look how DA2 and ME3 turned out and EA says no more single player games.MP will be attached to DA3.

So.... They sold EA to Bioware because they didn't like EA telling them what to do?

No they sold Bioware to EA and retied. They said Bioware wasnt the same anymore why would they say that because of the new direction EA was taking Bioware.

Which is why they announced a new game a mere day before this got out.

..too soon?

I'd dispute the Maxis one. SC Societies was terrible, yes, but EA acquired them in 1997. That means The Sims 1, 2, and 3, Sim City 3000 and 4, and Spore were all made while under EA's control.

Anyways, good luck to the Doctors. Sometimes you just gotta do something else in your life, if what you're currently doing no longer motivates you.

I'm listed as being on the same level of influence as Ray and Greg, or Brent Knowles? Thanks, but I'm nowhere near that imporant, and no one individual will make or break a product. Game development is a collaboration between dozens of visionaries, and the hard work of scores of talented, dedicated professionals.

Don't be so modest. This forum needs you like Gothem needs a batman. XD

As soon as Will left Maxis died. I think the spore fiasco did it. Also Sc societies was made by tilted mill and ea published it.

"I'm not the Moderator you need. I'm the Moderator you deserve." :P

Ray and Greg were great bosses. They always haad a smile and a kind word for everyone, and they occasionally asked how my gout was doing or how I was enjoying riding my motor scooter. Back when we were in BioWAre's old building, Ray would often be in the building super-late, like the rest of the development team, and he would sometimes visit the QA pit to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. I'll always remember Ray, one of the founders of the company we all know and love, offering to do a convenience store run for us lowly QA, in the middle of the night. Great men, both of them.

They were a great contrast of personalities: Ray was the no-nonsense businessman, always in business wear, while GReg wandered the halls in shorts and sandals, often with a soccer jersey on. Ray was clean-cut with short hair, while Greg was the long-haired, mustachioed wild child. They made BioWare so much fun to work for in the early 2000s, both of them trying to raise BioWare up to be the best it could be.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for them both.

Oh, we all know you're Two-Face.  Flipping a coin to determine whether or not to lock a thread.  ;)

Still, RIP Bioware.  You gave me great games, but then you got ate.  It was a shame how you went out.  You did not truly die with this announcement, we know, but rather when the EA monster consumed you.  It was inevitable.  You deserved better.  But still, you were great in your day!  You will be missed, Bioware.  Long die EA!

Lol yeah...I'm not happy with BioWare being owned by EA either, but give me a break. EA isn't stealing from the doctors. They didn't sabotage BioWare and then shut them down like they did with Westwood. This most likely has little to do with them leaving the industry beyond that they now are filthy stinking rich and can afford to do so.

Not sure how to feel about the news. I wonder how much oversight they've really had over the past few years. They seem to have taken on more of a role of being middle management.
