Will Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka retirement from BioWare affect Dragon Age 3?

Or possibly they'll decide that what Bioware really needs to do is start making train sims or fishing games.

Retiring in their early 40's? Something must be wrong, and not only the fans I deem.
Or they've earn enough money to be able to retire early, it does happen lol.
Bioware was sold to EA for around 800million IIRC. My guess is Ray and Greg received a big chunk of that compensation not mention their annual salaries the past few years as Executive VPs were just a tad above minimum wage.
Exactly.

My only question would be, who is going to defend BioWare against EA's encroaching? I saw the doctors as somewhat of a barrier to that...but whoever replaces them will be handpicked by EA. Well that about does it I guess.
^ My thoughts exactly, this does not sit well with me.Both original founders leaving at the exact same? troubling tho I hope who ever steps up is from bioware originally, I don't want our perfect eco system overhauled.

The doctors hadn't done jack as far as preventing any "encroaching" by EA.Korusus wrote...

I know it, you know it. The industry knows it. It's been a long time coming. What, you think this Dragon Age and Mass Effect news came by coincidence?
No.

This. They welcomed EA with open arms.

That actually puts a compelling conspiratorial spin on the decision to announce Inquisition yesterday for no apparent reason.Johnny20 wrote...

Perhaps trying to maintain relevance and show EA that they can still bring in customers on their own? Maybe somebody jockeying for position?

Someone need to make a golden statue of both of them and place it in the offices! D:
No?
*cricket chirps*
We can stash weapons and armor in the statues. And use it for stealing the greybox that contains the secrets of all of BioWare's franchises.
Seriously, though, the Drs. will be missed.

I fear my hopes for DA3 have retired with the good Dr's. They and their company (pre-acquisition by DA) made almost every game on my favourite games list.
I unfortunately feel the same way...my passion has died a little today with this announcement. I'm finding it difficult to even dislike DA2 anymore.

Well, now that we know that Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka is retiring from BioWare the question is - will this affect developement of Dragon Age 3?
I don't think so on #3.
However...the rest should jump ship and start anew as soon as they can.
The blog mentioned ME and DA started as SP...then kinda went off the deep end. I'm guessing its fill in the blanks time? Now MP! Now PvP! Now Co-op! Microtransactions xbillion! Woot.
I miss the Doc's already....Wish them all the best.

I see this as the moment of transition. This is when Bioware truly starts to be assimilated by EA. I don't mean as an entity, that's already happened. I mean their product. Before the acquisition, you'd buy a Bioware game. The publisher hardly seemed to matter in the minds of fans, it was a Bioware game. Since the acquisition (meaning games which began development afterwards, not before/during), they aren't Bioware games. They're EA games made by its Bioware division. The difference in feel, style, presentation, everything really is....off.
EA's record with its previous acquisitions speaks for itself, and loudly.
This is all my own opinion, put to words. To all, please believe as you will, I just felt the need to put thoughts to written word.

Agreed. It's noticeable even in Mass Effect 2 which was a great game with high production values...but there was still something not..quiiite right about it. Not quite BioWare.
I'm not really even excited about DA3. I hope BioWare can use more than words to convince us that all is not lost...but the guys who made Baldur's Gate a reality just left stage left the day after Dragon Age 3: Inquisition was announced. What are we as customers left with? Nothing because they aren't talking about the game. Hard to care anymore.

It's possible.marshalleck wrote...
No, you're absolutely right ZeshinX. There will no longer be a voice of longtime Bioware veterans and advocates in the board room meetings. It's only going to decline from here.
But Aaryn is in charge now (and he's been around forever, even though he eventually sought comfort in the arms of another engine), and the DA team is still hotsauce. Maybe James could even come back north, as the new Creative Director of Creativity.
It's not until they start to leave that we're in trouble.
