BSN complaining about the lack of choice in ME3. BSN wanting a canon ending.

Bad prequels? Halo Reach says hi.

Hey I liked Halo Reach

Well the Campaign, the MP was not great but not bad

But a bad SEQUAL

Deus Ex:Invisible War

No, I listed Halo Reach as a counterpoint to the claim that all prequels are bad. Sorry if that didn't get across.

Yeah no prequels please. Don't mind maybe one, as long as the plan is to make Mass Effect games set after 3. Like Reach for Halo, it was just a filler till Halo 4

Please no prequels.

Prequels are constrained by the need to build to a conclusion you already know. This removes much of the suspense and sense of adventure.

Even if you need to move forward in time thousands of years (to escape issues with the multiple endings) I would prefer this to going back.

Remember that Charles Manson also liked prequels. You don't want to be like Charles Manson do you?
No, of course not. So vote NO to prequels!

I have never been more frustrated by others opinions as I am with the people who want or are ok with a prequel. This is the exact thing Bioware should not do, because it will simply butcher what they've worked so hard to build.

I'm not keen on the idea of a prequel either, ME3's ending ruins everything that came before it, everything.

I also want to expand on the ME Universe not to Shrink it. Going back in time gives us more of the same old content we had in ME1 to ME3. I want new material.

I thought prequel isn't a bad idea as it can be many possibilities. Such as -
- what happened to Shepard's own family
- illusive man's past
- establishment of the alliance...

Co-sign. Please no prequels, FPS, MMO, straight-out action ME games. We want new RPG SEQUEL trilogy with save transfer!

I do want a sequel. But I'm not so sure they should start another trilogy with save-game transfer. I got the feeling it's a bit more then they can handle.
Maybe a duology could work. But I would be fine with just a stand-alone game.
But in the end anything is better then a prequel I guess.

Just because we know how it happened doesn't mean we know the details. I'd love to see the FCW done from the perspective of a soldier.

This argument is silly. I'd rather we get a game with more info on things like the Krogan Rebellions or the First Contact war. Does it honestly matter that we know how ME3 ends? Geeze.

I think it is reasonable to assume that another game will be a story that is (cronologically relativly) parallel to Shepard's.But I would not discount the possibility of something dealing with big historical events.

You don´t get the point ... it´s not about ending of ME3, it´s about endings of those events which already happened ...
The outcomes of your whole game would be already known, let´s say that you would play ME with Krogan rebellion - would you be happy to know as for the main protagonist - your krogan - will die in some stupid battle, because it would be predefine by the lore, it´s already happened... or would you be happy with the knowlendge that despite your protagonist won his battly - the Salarians and Turians released genophage as the reward for your effort ?
Or would you like to play for other side - mad salarians playing on gods, uplifting everything which could breath and trying to prosper from it, facing the critical failure of own stupidity when uplifted shows middlefinger?

Or the Morning war -
Would you like to play survival game on surface of empty Rannoch filled with boddies of your friends and being hunted by geths ?

simply said you couldn´t escape to your destiny and you couldn´t change your destiny - it wouldn´t be an RPG, it would be some kind of linear shooter game with RPG elements (well we already have ME3...)

Prequels won't work in the ME universe for one very important reason: CHOICE

Unlike Halo, Gears of War, or any other series out there, Mass Effect depends more heavily on player choice. You can say that was taken away all you want to in ME3, but at the end of the day you still decided the fates of entire species (Quarian, Geth, Krogan) before ever reaching the game's ending.

You can't change the history of games that would be set before ME1. History is set in stone. There would be no major choices to make that would have an effect on the ME universe, because it would all have to play out the same.

^

This.

If you take away the choice, then it just stops being Mass Effect for me. The name of the series was intended to be a pun on the core mechanic of the games.

And?  Those would be good games.  Alpha Protocol lets you make decisions but ALWAYS ends the same way.  Heck, most Western RPGs tend to do this.  They have multiple branching paths that STILL all come to the same, predetermined conclusion.  And those ideas would be awesome games.

Prequel is worth.
Geth become enemy again.
You don't need Thermo-Clip!
take ME1-style Armor?
And nobody knows what the hell Reaper is!

NO WAY!
