B. DA2 sold about as well as Origins for PC, I'm not sure the how or why of it selling so poorly for consoles

Because it was ****e, also Origins is dearer to buy new than Dragon Age 2 in my local Game Store, and as far as I am aware Origins is shifting more copies.

Bioware's still our galaxies best RPG developer. Leave... but you'll come back.

That would require them to actually make RPGs.  The Dragon Age 3 press release is the first time I've seen BioWare use the "RPG" word in a very long time.  Seriously.  Not kidding.  It's been years since I've seen BioWare embrace their image as an "RPG developer."  Pre-Skyrim I don't think BioWare wanted to associate their games with the genre anymore, insisting that "all games are merging into one big super-genre".  I think they assumed RPGs don't sell anymore...even as Dragon Age: Origins sells through the roof...  :?

EDIT:   Reread the Dragon Age 2 press release.  It's funny how RPG is only associated with Origins as having been "RPG of the Year", it's never actually used to describe DA2.  Compare that to the DA3 release:

BioWare, a Label of
Electronic Arts, today announced
Dragon Age™ 3: Inquisition, the next chapter in the
award-winning role-playing game (RPG) franchise, is in development
at BioWare Edmonton and BioWare Montreal. Coming in late 2013,
Dragon Age 3: Inquisition combines the storytelling legacy
BioWare is known for, with deep RPG gameplay, all on a brand new
RPG game engine underpinned by EA’s critically-acclaimed
Frostbite™ 2 technology.

EDIT 2:  I'm having fun reading these two press releases.  DA2 is all about "innovation", creating a "dynamic combat system" "action" and "revolutionizing the genre".  The DA3 press release is all "deep RPG gameplay", "tactical and visceral combat" and "deep customization".

Hmm, I didn't follow the press releases but I think the connection you've drawn is correct.  Good post mate.

They've already lost me. They are beyond redeeming, IMO. DA3 is going to have a semi-fixed Inquisitor, no racial choices, a voiced protag, dialogue wheel, limited-though-I-grant-better-than-DA2-but-still-bad companion customization, cutscene after cutscene after cutscene, auto-dialogue, ... oh, and multiplayer of all things.

They insist on making action games where the player's skill matters most, when I want Bioware games. They want 75% DA2, 25% other games they want to emulate, 0% DA:O. I just stopped in because I read where the Bioware Dr.'s were quitting, presumably because even they hate where "Bioware" is being told to go.

I mean, can you imagine the two founders quitting at the same time if even one of them liked the direction their company was going after they sold it? Put yourself in that position. Your company, that you built. Your labor of love, that you built. Then you sold it to EA. And then it got EA'd.

I feel nothing but gratitude to the Dr.'s for all the great games they put out, but can you imagine your baby getting EA'd? I'd quit, too.

It's a damn shame.

Say what you want about their technical shortcomings, they have some of the best writing in the industry and their RPG's are actually RPG's, which is more than can be said about the last six games made by BioWare.

Writing-wise, I'd say Atlus gives Obsidian competition.

laughter helps ease the pain of the truth, I guess. I mean Origin and Troika are dead (RIP), so it has to be Obsidian
