Shepard is at this late stage inexorably entwined into the very fabric of what is the Mass Effect franchise. And yet, save with the use of retcons and canon endings that would offend a lot of people, I can't see how Shepard can return for another game.
Shepard is too deeply involved with Mass Effect's identity for me to consider a game that doesn't feature him/her. Though I'm fascinated to see what Bioware comes up with, whether I'll buy it is another matter.
How many want to play Shepard in that new proposed game?

Not me. With an universe as rich as Mass Effect's, they should go nuts and try other things. Another galaxy maybe. But Shepard's too big of a character to be completely excluded, I think he will be at least mentioned in future games.

Good thing devs don't pay much attention to idiots with stagnant minds, otherwise we'd never see new games with new ideas and new stories.

I'm of course fascinated by the Mass Effect universe regardless of Shepard, but my personal motivation for playing the games was to watch my Shepard grow and interact with the universe and personalize him/her as he/she went along this very specific journey with this very specific goal. I would prefer that Shepard be in any future game, but (a) I don't want a prequel- I've seen few people actually justify how a prequel would be attractive to those deeply invested in ME1-ME3 (also just read the novels- the first one is sort of a prequel), and (
I don't think Bioware wants Shepard to continue past the ME3 ending, at least based on the ending itself and how they talk about their ideas for future directions for ME. I also don't want another trilogy with a different protagonist unless Bioware proves they have learned how to maintain narrative coherence and how to end trilogies properly. I was too invested in my Shepard and too let down at the end of ME3 to trust them again with any protagonist.
So yes, I want to see Shepard's story continue post-ME3 ending, but I don't really see how it could unless something about ME3 changes. I like the ME universe, but not enough to invest myself again after the huge disappointment I felt with ME3.

I wont be purchasing the game if I cant play as Shepard. I might rent it but thats about it. With that said, I have a good feeling the next game will star Shepard again.

Nah, I'm fine with a new protagonist in a sequel. I wanna see what happens way down the road, though I'm warming up to the idea of the first game of the next ME story taking place during the reaper war introducing that new protagonist also.
Parallel storyline (smaller stakes - personal survival and having one big hero moment or something like that) with your ME3 save game being responsible for how the big stakes play out. Preferable on Earth so we can basically play the back story of our new protagonist, maybe even doing something big at the end that helped our Shepard unnoticed - like drawing Harbinger away from the beam...
Then that "war hero" can face a new big antagonist in ME5 -> maybe the Leviathans?

There is more to Mass Effect than Shepard, even Shepard knows this.

I do.
Save file transfers of customizable characters is one of the greatest innovations BioWare employed (and they employed many). I would love to keep going with it. It's how they crafted their world for us.
how would they have ME4 with shepard? In all but one ending shepard is dead and even the shepard lives ending is scetchy.

Shepard and his group had their story and it ended conclusively with ME3. I'd rather explore different parts of the ME galaxy with a new character and new sets of NPCs. I wouldn't mind seeing some of the old cast for cameos, but for the most part, let's get some new blood in there.

You don't need Luke Skywalker in order to enjoy a Star Wars story.

As much as I love Shep, his story is finished with ME3. He dies in 75% of the endings, and Bioware has said hundreds of times now that ME3 is the last Shepard story. I wanna see a new protagonist, with new characters and a new adventure. However, I think to have to be Mass Effect, it still needs to feature things like the Citadel and Mass Relays.

Shepard's story is done.
They should have the same options as Skyrim in regards to race and sex.
