"The Mass Effect universe is vast, and Casey and our teams have plans for another full game. “Where to go next?” with such a project has been a question a lot of us have been asking, and we’d all love to hear your ideas."

So there it is, a public invitation to voice what we as fans want for the next Mass effect game. As it's a new game there are no restrictions to what can happen, it could be any time frame, Prothean's against the Reapers or decades after the reaper conflict and beyond. Seeing as there are planned future story dlc's for mass effect 3 id say we can rule out anything to do with Shepard and the characters we know at the moment thoguh.

So what do you want? I think something to do with the Prothean time but playing as the races that were enslaved and taken over by the Protheans, so Javik and his race are the bas guys.

But that's just me, what about you lot?

Go nuts. Mass Effect was about the Milky Way Galaxy. The races in there, the reapers, its conflicts, stories, exploring it. Go to another galaxy. Maybe Andromeda? The presence of eezo there and the mass effect technology would be the tie-in.

Going around as an S.T.G. Agent or Spectre messing with Galactic Politics C.I.A. style would make for a fun game.

Mass Effect : Origins

This is easy, I want to play as all the different races in a pre-reaper galaxy at least 5 years before the ME trilogy. Post-ME3 is unlikely, and I don't even want to bother with that discussion.

I think I've had enough disappointment for one day. I vote to let Mass Effect be until they're excited to work on it again, and prepared to put in the necessary development time to finish it.

No prequels, no MMO, no pure FPS/action/action-adventure game.

I really want another ME RPG trilogy, set AFTER ME3 and with a new hero we can customize like Shep and transfer throughout 3 games.

Plz Bioware!

Call it "Mass Effect: Spectre". Human, Salarian and Asari are your starting race options. Each has an 'Act One' on their respective homeworlds. After they prove themselves, they are taken to the Council for Spectre testing and training.

Make it incredibly RPG'ish. Have different quest lines based on your species. Have the overarching plot be a bit more sneaky and have your character put in less of a spotlight. Start with a small 2-person ship and as you progress and gain allies, you get bigger ships.

Different companions for each race with a few of the same ones running through each Species Arc.

Casey, I want you to not make another Mass Effect.

You have already done enough damage to my favorite game series.

And if you ignore this, and make one, I promise you, I will not buy it. Do not waste your time. Make another game. Any other game. Mass Effect has told it's story. Leave it alone.

Please, Casey, do not make another Mass Effect.

id like to hear you explain how a sequel will work after the events of me3 with none of the charachters from that trilogy

if you can really impress me with some details maybe ill agree otherwise a prequel game isnt that bad of an idea

Mass effect is kind of a combat game with rpg elements. So they would need a conflict to provide combat. Hunting mercs or something like that doesnt sound very big after you have destroyed some epic enemies in me3.

Ass Effect - A dating sim...in SPACE! (Im sorry for the atrocious joke. It just had to come out).

Guess a prequel is the most likely scenario. The game got several old events that could be used. Asari finding the relays and their first contact with another species. Rachni wars, krogan rebellion, First Contact War, Morning War and so on. The batarian Hierarchy could be pretty neat to explore: the creation of a rogue-state and its politics could make for a very deep and complex story. Maybe thats because Im into politics.

First contact with the Citadel and alien species for the Asari is kind of cool. However, portraying and relaying the emotions when encountered with unknowns that arent necessarily hostile would be kind of hard.

Otherwise, they could always show us if the Geth/Quarians would get along and not end up like the synthetics in Javiks cycle. If the Krogan started another rebellion.

Edit...make sure there are kickass mod-tools included.

Another ME triology with a transferable "Shephard II" would be great.

But I will be interested in whatever storyline they come up with, because they know they can't risk to fail the legacy of the 3 first games in the series. It just has to be good, and they know it.

That doesn't sound too bad actually. If they insist on making another ME game (I don't have anything against the series, including ME3, it just feels...finished to me) I would like to play as another race, NOT human...that would make it interesting enough for me to buy it :P

Not the best example since KOTOR is a prequel BUT. KOTOR didn't have a single character known from Star Wars movies, yet it wasn't a problem for people

Casey I'd advise you to move on from this IP. There is too much bad blood. It can never be made right to this group as long as you and the others that people perceive to have caused this are still in charge.

You cannot save the legacy of the project you created but then fumbled. If you or your bosses feel Bioware needs to return to ME, you must let someone else redeem it for you. Obviously none of you, Walters or Gamble can be at the helm.

First, nothing personal, but that is a bit d***chy

Second, Many developers knows that fans have great ideas even if the (developer's) excuetion doesn't come out right sometimes. That is why they ask what the fans want (and because the ending debacle).

Third, Stay cool and don't threat on threads.

Anything post Mass Effect 3 is a wash in my opinion unless you intend to canonize an ending. A good number of people feel the endings aren't worth canonizing.(Cyborgs for everyone?)

Depending on the ending you picked in ME3, seeing the outcome of the choice you made, and if you had enough EMS points the results of the destroy ending, maybe seeing the results of the love interest as well (can't be any more specific than that since it's a no spoilers forum, even though everyone has already finished it, and I was two months late to getting ME3...two years for ME2).

I'm not worried about how many days/months/years/decades/centuries after the Earth mission the new game takes place, I would just like to see that Shepard's efforts didn't go unnoticed or there is some credit to his/her actions whatever they may have been (including along the way from ME1-ME3, every decision has an effect on the universe and the following sequels after all, right?).

Unless your doing a prequel, then I don't have any concerns as long as it doesn't mess with the story of the sequels that have already been laid out. I don't want to see another case of the prequels tainting a great story like George Lucas demonstrated with Star Wars.

I agree with the above poster.  I loved the gameplay in ME3 - continue to build on that for gameplay.

For story and what not, use completely new characters, maybe a new galaxy, change the focus from saving the universe to something - maybe make the new hero a Han Solo type character on the run from the Alliance or something.  Increased choice and consequence.

Avoid the Hero's Journey - I don't care if you include other aspects commonly found in stories, but BioWare have heavily relied on the Hero's Journey in almost all of their games.

Prequel's are a bad idea and never turn out as well as you hoped - just look at the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, we know too much of what happened before for a prequel to be a compelling game.

My thoughts for now anyways.
