Any time travel would need to suddenly introduce wormholes or some other theory into the ME universe that was never there before. It wouldn't be consistent with the logic in the rest of the series.

This.

Time travel would just be too awkward to work. The only "time travel" that could work would be multiple protagonists in multiple time periods, or one protagonist in different stages of their life (like the beginning of ME2, with Shepard being MIA for 2 years). But even that would be awkward

I would say that if you are insisting on making a new one, even though I would rather you don't, but you must chase that almighty dollar. I'm sure many have mentioned these before, but I will echo the thoughts.
1. Let Shepard be, Go with someone else. Do a back-story rewind on Nihlus. Anything but Shepard. Don't make this Die Hard.
2. New story, no possible import screwups.
3. Keep Priestly away from it. Make him the mailroom supervisor.
4. Not the Mako, or, at least let us drop closer to destination.

As much as I love Shepard, I have to stay 3 games is enough for one character. A new protagonist, either a few centuries later (though I wouldn't mind a game versed in the First contact war however that would be rather predictable) or decades later, also it must be something that will either equal this mass effect trilogy or surpass it. So a new, terrible threat but nothing that resembles the reapers because that would just seem like a remake. Perhaps, the civilizations of the Milky way galaxy travel to a new galaxy.

Two annoyances I would like to see disappear in future ME games are:

Drop the multi-function key (space bar) that causes you to enter cover when you just want to sprint away. Got me killed many times, it's a nice idea in principle to save key mappings (?) but so clumsy in the field.

Pause (Escape) menu available during all cut-scenes at all times. My phone rings, my doorbell goes, take something out of the over etc. I need to be able to pause the game and not wait 15 to 20 minutes for things to play out before I can reload (because there is no pause and I missed it all).

These two little grievances detract from my game and add little frustrations.

It's probably been mentioned before and it's very minor but when Bioware will create the female version of their main protagonist, it would be nice if she reacted to certain situations or events a bit differently than her male counterpart (especially when facing the death of someone close to her). Men and women don't always deal with emotions in the same way.

It would be interesting to play as a surviving member of Grand Fleet. A few years after Mass Effect 3 (say 6-7) Fleet is slowly rebuilding Mass Relays system (perhaps with a new, non-Reaper technology), and protagonist with a group of high-trained specialists goes to different systems to reunite them into one civilization. What's good about this scenario is that you can choose to play almost any race. Also it is soooooooo interesting ti see how each planet managed post-Crucibel isolation. There is a peacefull utopia on Tuchanka, theocracy on Thessia, Palaven is consumed by civil war, and so on. Galaxy is a big place, so no ME Trilogy crew members will have to be in game, with a possibility of a little tasteful cameo in the future.

1. Take the ME3 multiplayer.

2. Build a story around it.

3. Mass Effect: Special Forces.

Boom, done.

nice, that's a great idea, you could play as any of the species in the war with objectives and what not but have an actual storyline other than running around, sticking to cover, shooting things, escorting drones or what not.

Remake Mass Effect 1 + 2 with Unreal Engine 3 and make it so that Shepard dies, no matter what choice or upgrade, in 2 so ME3 never exists and we never have to be dissapointed with the ending.

or you could just play me1, then play me2 and play the game in such a way your shepard dies at the end and you don't have to play me3. See, your problem is solved. I however will continue and play all 3.

Ignore Shepard and save the galaxy.
Go Terminus Systems and Attican Traverse.
SP: You take the roll of one of the many playable races(krogan, salarian, asari, human, drell, vorcha, volus(lol), quarian, batarian), and are a memeber of a fitting mercenary band out in the terminus/atticane traverse. You are the captain of a ship with crew under you. You will be able to recruit new members and doing missions for your mercenary band, Aria and even the Shadow Broker.
It happends between the events of ME1 and ME2, or during the events of ME2 but before ME3.

MP: Similar to ME3 MP, but you play in a faction of your choice against other mercenary bands with new and diffrent objectives. Maybe it can be tied in with SP, but likely not. You can fight for your faction to be superior. Aria and Shadow Broker faction may be the harder factions to face, and joinable only for the "elite" players.

I could support this as a spunkgarglewee multiplayer game (hell I'd buy it).

They shouldn't put too much effort in the single player campaign though (cause you know ... the ending).

I support a sequel that takes place a century later and the new player character is a mercenary and also not human.

Here's my "fan idea" for the next Mass Effect:

Go onto Youtube, watch all of smudboy's videos regarding the last 2/3 of your trilogy. Listen in detail to all the observations he makes about your story. Witness the mistakes you've made regarding poor narrative cohesion, contrivances, logical inconsistencies, and basic writing technique. Notice what a meticulous, nitpicking, condescending, cynical anus smudboy is, and how much time he is willing to spend doing this regarding your games.

Then realize that this is exactly  the type of person you need to hire onto your team to keep your writing and lore in check (i.e. an editor), so that the next game from the Mass Effect series doesn't become another tepid, anticlimactic, illogical morass with a thin coating of emotional fluff painted over the surface in a vain effort to hide the mess within.
