I was thinking about the type of protagonist Bioware could use next. Personally I think the whole Alliance soldier thing is done. You could probably do another Spectre but I was listening to some of Wrex's stories the other day and realised that the most of the interesting characters in the game were mercenaries (or something similar) at some point: Wrex, Samara, Zaeed, Aria, etc. They all had great stories from long before they met Shepard, and they weren't necessarily bad people and not necessarily loyal to money either. Like I said it's just an idea for the type of protagonist, with side quest and story potential while departing from the soldier thing. And like Wrex himself said "mercs come in all shapes" or something really close to that.

Please make ME4 Co-op (at least for PC Players)

we need to have fun for SP campaigning. Having AI for squads SUCKS. They don't perform the way I command them. I'll command them to do "one-thing" and they don't.

We need co-op (at least for PC players) because PC can handle (unlike consoles). Please allow CO-OP for PC

SPECTRE not like Shep who seems like a pseudo SPECTRE but one that actually does work for the council and you can approach missions in multiple ways like diplomacy or guns blazing and not all missions require you to go fight. We would get a choice of ship from any of the council races Turrian, Asari, Salarian, or Human that you could customize with crew and gadgets and you could choose which race to be of those four. My perfect ME game

I would add new races, especially the Yahgs. Maybe, between new races there will be some, who want to take control of everything and everyone as the Prothean in the past.

As long as its a sequel. No prequel or set in a galaxy were the reapers never existed but same species from the original. That way mass effect can have a clean start.

I went to the last page of this thread and your quote was the first I read - and I agree 110% with you.

I don't think the parallel universe thing could be done with a straight face - but god yes a sequel, please a sequel.  NOT a prequel.  After Star Wars went onboard with the prequels and made it 'cool', I've had enough.  GoW: Judgment is over the top!  Casey and the Bioware band are not lacking in talent - I have no doubt whatsoever that they can come up with a riveting, exciting sequel to the Mass Effect franchise!  Please!

And I still think attack vector has brought the best ideas to the table so far on this. it was from a while ago, but i'll repost it for the new commers to see

Attack Vectors post:

MINI-GAMES + FUNCTIONAL ECONOMY:
Large hubs with lots of mini-games (pazak, etc...) that allow the player to buy / sell / trade to trick out their ship, crew, gear, etc...

REGENERATIVE CONFLICT ZONES:

SLICE OF LIFE:
I want to be a privateer (Han Solo) in the ME Universe. I want to buy a swank condo on Bekinstein like Donovan Hock... or better yet... start and run my own crime syndicate like Donovan Hock. Hot alien groupies, fast cars and a the fastest illicit cargo transport in the known galaxy. The... uh... Century Hawk... yeah :-)

A REAL RPG:
I am a die hard Mass Effect Fan. Go look me up Bioware. I've dumped HUNDREDS of dollars in to the Mass Effect franchise, collectors editions, EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF playable DLC. art books, everything. So it breaks my heart when I sit down on the couch at night and I say, "I'm in an RPG mood tonight." What do I do? I reach for Skyrim. ME Is no longer an RGP. It's a really deep Tomb Raider. I want to play ME4 and spend HOURS dinking around in the armory lab on my starship (The Century Hawk... ) perfecting the ultimate ammo to take down renegade droids at my workbench. I want an Alchemy Bench for guns, tech and armor. What happened to you Bioware?

FRACK THE FRACKING "A" BUTTON:
What's the deal Bioware? Pretty soon we'll all just be "mashing 'A' to play game". Please clean up your combat / run / dodge / cover / mechanics. I hate getting stuck to every surface in the environment and then dying. The game design trand to bind every action to a single button is not magically lowering the barrier of entry for casual players. It's a fad. Following fads is not what made you a world class developer. Think for yourselves you used to be great at it.

Otherwise I'm drinking the koolaid with everyone else here... gimmie a sequel, etc...

It seems I'm taking (what seems to be after a cursory glance) the popular stance.

A new story line, set after the original series. I wouldn't mind another trilogy.

Of course I'd love the usual "Bioware detail" into the characters and character development. It's always been
my absolute favorite aspect of any Bioware game.

Personally, I'd like a stronger sense of exploration. Explore the mystey and wonders of the galaxy. Small
nooks and crannies that have never been discovered. I feel dragon age had a similar potential and thus far
it hasn't been fully utilized
The same applies here, let me explore the citadel beyond a handful of maps that
will be revisited countless times. I feel that this may have been a weak point many of the latest Bioware games.
Take a bit of a queue from Elder Scrolls series, this is (in my opinion) their greatest strength.
There's alot of room for creativity here and I feel the potential may be too great to pass up in this aspect.

As for the story, all I can say is stay focused on the little details. I've always felt they were by far the most important.
I'm not sure how the storyline may be handled depending on the ending of ME 3 if the game is a seqeul (The different possible endings really can change any future of a sequential Mass Effect Game). Though I'd still much rather a seqeul and not a precursor to Mass Effect 1.

Finally, I'd love to be able to change races for the main character. It may be a difficult feature to fully implement depending on the story but the pay off is usually worth it.

Edit: I forgot the most important thing I would like to see.
Quality > quantity any day. I'd MUCH rather see a great game every 2-3 years then an "pretty good" one popped off every year. Take your time.

Another thing I want to bring up in terms of the antagonist: not the Reapers! Not anything remotely like the Reapers. Here is the major issue I have with the Reapers: they were overpowered. Don't create an enemy that threatens all life as we know, create smart villains who have more focused goals, like overthrowing the Council or probably something more interesting. My point is make an enemy we can beat without some 100 million year old doomsday device that defies all logic.

I have to say, my favorite DLC throughout the trilogy is Kasumi-Stolen Memory. Really enjoyed the infiltrating/James Bond aspect of that. Perhaps a spectre based game. Keep the 3rd person combat system of me3 and return to the roots of me1 with more rpg and story altering decision. Add some zero G 3rd person combat, and some 1st person space fighter pilot missions would be really cool, especially set in the ME universe. Ability to play the protagonist as a different species would also be interesting.

I like all those ideas as well

I just want Mass effect to return to its roots and blow me away with the level of story telling that ME1 has.
Also a enemy could be the yagh or something new completely unique that hasnt been seen yet.  another story mechanic should be that they let us activate mass relays and set up communication or something along those lines the galexy is a large area the canvas is clean show me that you still have it in you Bioware.  Love CRO

P.S.  the enemy doesnt have to be like the reapers where the threat is galexy wide it could be reserved to a plat against the council or something along those lines.  The Yahg seem like the most credible threat in my oppinion though while the galexy is fighting the reapers who is watching what they are doing.

I think the common theme here is that everyone wants a visceral, believable story set in the Mass Effect universe. We already know that the Alliance soldier storyline has been dropped - although in my opinion that's unfortunate as it still has plenty of legs. You could be a lowly grunt sent to some far-off world with a small platoon of N7 to investigate reports of Yahg activity, or a high-ranking Alliance diplomat who begins serving on the newly rebuilt council, only to find him/herself stranded on a hostile planet after a political trip goes wrong.......

The possibilities really are endless. We are only bound my our imaginations. What REALLY matters is how they approach the storyline, relationships, romances and interactions in the next game/set of games. In my (humble) opinion, it would be very desirable to return to a ME2-style of interaction where you have a vested interest in each and every character you have on your team (if you are to have a team). I did not like how in ME3, your team members basically felt like glorified tools for the war. I want to become emotionally invested in people, do favors for them, have arguments with them, have differences of opinion/religion with them, and cry for them when something goes wrong. THAT'S what makes a brilliant game.

No Shepard is fine. IDK why people are so angry about the ME3 ending, but okay.
People should stop harrasing the ME staff. They do good, hard work.

overal:
- No MP that affects the SP. It made no sense on Xbox, you have to pay for Xbox online play. I don't want to pay extra for a good ending.
- I'd like to not play a human. Humans get forced onto people too much. I'm starting to feel like a batarian.
- Maybe another galaxy with new aliens and stuff.
- The ME3 battle system was good.
- The ME3 menu was good.
- Wouldn't mind a new name for the series.
- completely new team.
- get to choose origin and customise character.
- Less hero stuff, mabey you could be more of a rogue or just a marine or deserter.
- more conversation options.
- more morality, not just jerk/bold or idealist/goodie-two-shoes.
- expand on the romance, have it mean or do more, like extra diologue or quests or a change in cutscenes. Actual jealousy between characters, they seemed too cool with break ups some times in ME.
- Less sexualising of certain characters during normal conversation and no awkward male/female gaze camera angles/ no panning down a character's boobs, moobs, crotch or butt. That's just awkward when you're not in a romance with that character.
- Speaking of camera angles. Make sure a character doesn't disappear from view. It happened a lot in ME1 and 2 (where did Mordin go!?)

If not too far in the future:
- could focus on fixing the damage of the reapers?
- could include ME NPC cameos and how they are doing after the reapers.
- Nathak.

If a prequal:
- protheans, geth, rachni, krogan or first contact war?
- just as long as it fits lore, i'm fine.

If far in the future:
- New aliens of course. Every one loves new aliens.
- Far in the future could work very well. It will be new and cool and it won't be ME, so that will make others happy. It would also be easier to bend lore, history is always bent.
- New spaceships.
- maybe species at war?
- No asari, they'd be way too perfect again if other species are already extinct or if they're the first to make contact with a new species.
- Finding the citadel?

It would be nice to have a new story that doesn't involve heroes and Shepard. When i started ME3, i was thinking to myself, 'any more Shepard and i will get so tired of her.'.
Other than that, go crazy. Well, not too crazy...

An mmo set in the Mass Effect universe.

That's pretty much the only thing on my wishlist.

I'm currently playing a sci-fi mmo, but since the gameplay action is split between space and ground, the game is heavily biased towards the spaceship part, leaving me disappointed with the ground action due to several gameplay drawbacks based around my gameplay style (on the ground) which the devs have no intention of fixing.

Given that Stargate Worlds failed to come out, the Fallout mmo turned out to be a fan hoax and SWTOR was a severe disappointment, Mass Effect is pretty much my last chance for a decent ground based sci-fi mmo.

Make it something wonderful, something which is worth to explore. I remember reading Carl Sagan's book "Cosmos" as a child and those fascinating illustrations in it made me shiver sometimes. And now, in a time were those illustrations could be transformed into a playable format, I didn't saw anything comparable in the Sci-fi or gaming industry at a whole.

I don't need words when I show you some illustrations. Just look!

And then something about the species: There was litteraly no species execpt the Yahg who were not highly equipped and part of the galactic society. What are with those species who live in huts, caves, using spears, who don't care about galactic events? I mean there could be a mission were you crash on a planet and have to deal with them. Some plant or fungi-like species who are more clever than a highly equipped Spectre can think of and who can communicate with their environment (flora and fauna).

Think about it, Bioware!

To create deserts, ice caverns, rock formations which are hardly dreamable, that is something I want to see in a new Mass Effect. Use more reference work of astrobiologists and their artworks. Those details are important similar to story details and lore details and those planets which remain a mistery (Ploba, Zaherux). So please, more of them!

Ah, and Bioware: Don't, I mean DON'T make it a first-person shooter (FPS) or a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG). Don't dare to even think about it! The game concept is as perfect as it is: a third-person (action-)rpg!

I would love to see a more RPG oriented game, thats what i love about ME1.
Well the series could go on but, not a prequel, i would prefer to play in the future.
But then i think this series should end here, but if you really want to carry one, do something different and not a race that wants to wipe out every race in the galaxy.

Heh found something intresting, not sure how "true it is but"

basicly Frostbite 2 is going to be used for Mass Effect 4. Which apparently is a confirmation that ME4 is in the works.

Please no MMO!

Keep a TPS/RPG hybrid. Ideally a sequel. Not something that threatens the whole galaxy because one-upping the Reaper threat would just be ridiculous. Compelling companions, breathtaking vistas, and a solid story work for me :)

I'd say something like a new crew finds a relay and goes through it to a new galaxy and is caught there. The find races of some of the aliens in the ME universe, but they evolved differently. There could be nods from the crew from our universe on ME games prior, but it would give a whole new place to create and go from.

Another possibility, would be the same thing only it is a relay is being repaired and tested and instead of it going to something here, the repairs make it link up with a new galaxy that is again one way shot and they can't get back to ours, so they have to explore and find a way to fit into a new world, new monsters, new aliens and so forth. No matter what ending anyone chooses in ME3, the relays are all broken but could be repaired, so it is one way to go forward on anyone's ending.
