Casey Hudson wants to hear fan's ideas on a new mass effect game

I'm am idiot however, i still hope Bioware will do the same thing Bungie did and break free from the big company. But they won't and they will be just another part of the bull$*#& company that is EA. Hudson will continue to make bull$*@# endings to games and hide behind his 'artistic integrity' and EA will suck as much money as they can out of gamers pockets.

- NO prequels please - Not a big fan of telling a story where the destination is predefiend by canon (although i would buy a stand alone interim game which tells the story of Shepards background - War Hero, Sole Survivor etc. I'd play the heck outa that)
- NO MMO please - For the love of God please no, no, no MMO. ME story is best told as a solo experience, it allows you greater scope to cater for different choices without having to worry about how that impacts everything else. I will weep many hot salty tears if you choose this route as I won't buy it. Co-op should be left to a separte MP product which I think ME3 does very well.
Humanity would be a long established council member by the time these events occur which in itself gives a different dynamic to the game. Perhaps a new race appears much as Humanity did and threatens galactic stability.
I love the idea of the Spectre investigating a Galactic Conspiracy that escalates to wider things -War with the terminus systems perhaps, with a new faction controlling things and uniting the disparate groups within. Also like the idea of upgrading from ship to ship, getting a bigger crew as the game progresses. Whatever you do, what is most important to me as a player are the design points that really sucked me in -
- Customisable Shepard - 8 Shepards, 4 per gender, not one default femshep/Sheploo
- Character Interaction - Amazing Characters, great dialogue, great interaction
- Choices with impact - Screw the endings, I'm talking about Virmire (Wrex included), Suicide Mission death toll, Geths destroying the Quarians, (or not) and punching Khalisah al-Jilani in the face (didn't know that even existed until playthrough 4 and it produced a genuine lol)
- Romance - You do it very well in most cases - the obvious pain of Kaiden's unrequited love in ME3 made me see him in a new light - I created another femshep fior him becasue I felt bad for the poor guy.

Explanations/elaborations and corrections: (TIONS!)
This idea is a take on the character creation and psychological profile process - in the first game of playing as Shepard you create it, or upon importing, it's from when you made it in the/a previous game. This idea is a take on that as you make the decisions as you play, rather than before you play. So, this idea would be a prequel, featuring Shepard.
Yes, we know how it ends, and Shepard's story is done and dusted. This is just an idea of what I reckon would be fun, at least.
1. You make your character and the point of origin, then work your way from there.
2. After rescue/recruitment, this, I guess, would be a dialogue-wheel option, but due to the lack of room on the wheel, it'd be split into 2 or 3 groups. Tech and Biotic (soldier/infiltrator/engineer and adept/sentinel/vanguard), or Tech, Biotic and Weapons (infiltrator/engineer, adept/vanguard and soldier/sentinel) - which then may or may not determine the 'training' stage locale.
3. Should be self explanatory - doing alliance stuff - also, as it's alliance, the LIs would be human only. Here's hoping for variety
also, typo - *renown
4. Self-explanatory. This bit's closer to the promotion sequence, rather than missions
5. The line of work that gets the heart pumping. Also self explanatory. Trouble goes down, Shep rescues their LI and their LI's squad.
6. The iconic bit goes here
7. Relative self-explanatory. Can't pick one if you're the other. Mission is bloodthirsty, and LI dies off (hence why they aren't in the original trilogy - plus it's in the past so Shep doesn't talk about it. Hooray for continuity!) - until this point Shepard is more 'spry' than in the original trilogy - but it's cos of this (or, if there's no LI, then it's because of the ordeal itself - but if there is an LI, then that doesn't help Shep much either) that Shepard becomes less 'bouncy'. Explained in point 8.
8. Until this point, Shepard was not the squad leader - but instead one of the squad mates. Otherwise, this is self-explanatory. The 'scrub' is just a 'scrub' cos it can be any character - although whether or not they GET scrubbed is something else, I guess if the mission goes well, they live. If not, well.. *scrubbed*
9. Tally-ho, here we have an attempt at continuity.
And it's set over 11 years (snippits of it) - from 18 to 29 - right when Shep is aboard the normandy and heads to the cockpit to meet with Joker.
It's just an idea. I don't often pass up a chance for a good yarn - prequel or not.
Don't hate on me, please XD

Why? Prequels usually feel like they are going backwards in story, I always want to know what happens next and not before. In some cases a prequel can be done well, and the idea of maybe playing a key role in the first contact war is interesting but I already know how that occurs and what happens in the aftermath.
Gameplay wise, I felt that while the Mako driving sequences of the first game could get dull but there is potential to make us feel like a great explorer discovering new worlds with more fleshed out side stories.

TITLE
I will call it ME4 of course but that shouldn't be the title. The Mass Effect trilogy is Shepard's story. He is dead, gone, so let's fo something else. Like in Star Wars, after 1-6(1-9 now) we have: Star Wars: Dark Forces-Star Wars: Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight-Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast-Star Wars: Jedi Academy. Something similar should be done with Mass Effect. So ME: subtitle. The trend seems to be somethin-tion. That could (and should) still be used.
PROTAGONIST
Not I repeat not another Shepard. Just as the Hero of Kirkwaal is nothing compared to the Hero of Ferelden(Or Meetra Surik to Revan) if you try the same type of character again, it will not work. The new protagonist needs to be something else. merc, thief, simple man, anybody. But not another Shepard. Oh and aliens are must. I now it is hard to get like 5 voice actors just for the protagonist but everyone will love you for it. Oh and if you really have no idea which actor to choose: Crispin Freeman. Yep, on the wishlist.
SHIP
Simple one. Normandy SR-1. Giving the SR-2 would be blasphemy. Buuut there are a few Normandy class frigats around. My guessing based on the SR-1. Iconic? Yes. Awesome? Yes. Puts you on the same level as Shepard? No. Just perfect. So what if the protag is not a soldier. Well the Normandy wasn't really a fighter before the Thannix cannon. It is a quick, stealthy ship. more suited for a smuggler than some huge soldier. It would work perfectly.
CREW
A rather diverse one, please. Like in ME2. Even the 5 humans were totally different. I wouldn't mind if we could choose who to pick. Like 3 for one character slot. One playthrough with a diverse cast, one with full Krogan. On another note Shepard is gone, but that says nothing about the crew. Kotor 2 and DA2 had a lot of returning squadmembers. Liara will be around for a thousand years, EDI is immortal, and we don't know anything about Javik's lifespan. I personally want Javik, Kolyat and Kasumi back. The latter could be you mentor if you start as a thief. her abduction could nicely kickstart the plot. Oh yeah. On the topic
STORY
Just two wishes. Playable origin stories, and a more personal plot. Shepars saved the galaxy, became a legend, that is done. Do something like witcher 1. Personal, but still epic. And an offline version of SWTOR. Main storyline plus special class quests.
EXPLORATION
Yes. Both space AND ground. And Mako please. The Hammerhead is waaay tooooo fragile.
MINIGAMES
All of em. I even miss the hacking and bypassing from ME2.
ON SHIP STORE AND UPGRADE
The kiosks are convenient but make no sense. Bring back the upgrade system of ME2 and the requisitions officer from ME.
COMBAT
Make the choise between heat sink and cooldown optional. Oh and make the omniblade weapon cycleable.
I think this is all for now. Oh one more thing. An occasional puzzle. Think Overlord DLC. It had nice ones. Including the boss mechanic.

ME(1-3) were the story told from human perspective, and thats fine and all, but a story that doesnt restrict you in your race selection next time would be great.

They've done it gender-wise now I'd like to see what they can do with the other races.
I highly suspect that they will have a female Turian romance option in the next game given how widely requested female Turians have been in general.
Personally I'd like to see what they could do with a Salarian character. They've been labelled as an "asexual" species but I still believe there's some capacity for a romantic connection non-sexual or otherwise.
I'm also hoping they balance out the LI ratio e.g. Mshep had a much wider variety race and gender wise, Femshep not so much (In my opinion).
This Is assuming that In the next game there will be a choice between a male and female role (goddang hope there is).

They're powerful enough to pose a galaxy wide threat, but not so much that they require a plot coupon to get out of it...
By having the Yahg already conquer everything, you remove many of the institutions used to combat the Reapers. You also avoid rehashing a massive invasion storyline, as it's been long since the Yahg have already won...
Play as a lovable rogue who starts a grass roots revolution...
Again, different from Shepard and all of his institutions...
Also, keep ethics in mind...
I don't like playing games where the least monstrously unethical thing I can do is commit genocide on my friends, and having a moral compass results in everyone dying...

How ominous.
Yes, space-**** has gone down without anybody plot-relevant to wait at the site. The science team and guards are dead, killed by some type of energy-based weapon (kinetic barriers don't stop lasers) and the research, left lying around, is gone. Javik, Destavio, and Liara leave camp everyonedies and head towards the actual dig site, it's a Prothean bunker. How predictable. The enemy guarding the entrance are wearing generic, spiky armor that makes it impossible to tell what species they are. Being main characters, and therefore badasses, Destavio+co. slaughter them and head inside. Several mook squads and many bullets later, our heroes arrive in a large chamber filled with mooks and a miniboss-class mech thing.
After an epic firefight (or not), we proceed to effortlessly open the vault door that all the mook's horses and all the mook's men couldn't budge, and Destavio+co. recover the contested Macguffin. A Prothean AI, stuck in emergency shutdown mode. Oh Javik, your people just loved placing time capsules in the strangest of places.
That was a summary of the prolouge mission, all characters that might have survived are treated as such. If yours died then replace their name with <[CHARACTER] SUBSTITUTE>. Refusal endings are not counted, and Geth/Quarians/Krogan are presumed not extinct under any circumstances. Other characters are shown below.
Shepard and Mordin, firstborn sons of Wrex and Eve. While Mordin lives up to his namesake, Shepard follows the path of his father, killing things.
Sidonis. After the war, Sidonis found himself on Omega, where he took up the mantle of Archangel, defender of Omega.
Kasumi Goto. The former master thief is now a Spectre, using her skills to steal information and secrets from every criminal orginization in the traverse.
Kaidan Alenko. The second human Spectre now leads a team of biotic specialists on high-risk missions.
Ashley Williams. The second human Spectre is the Weaponsmaster at the Citadel Spectre academy (for those unlucky saps who the council makes go through actual training to become spectres).
Fleet Admiral Hackett. He hasn't changed.
Endgame. A Geth AI operating the most advanced mobile platform the consensus has ever constructed. He's a master strategist, and can win a game of chess on his first move.
Krresh. He may be downright stupid compared to the rest of the galaxy, but he has more common sense than the entire ME1-3 council.
Fade. The Spectre behind the N7 specials ops forces during the Reaper war. He started out with twelve Alliance marines, which quickly expanded to include Geth, Krogan, Turians, Quarians, Vorcha, Asari, Drell, Volus, AIs, Batarians, and even a Leviathan-controlled Collector. He's the other Commander Shepard.
Joker. It wouldn't be the same without Joker.
Garrus. He's a Spectre now.
P'shad Vlax. Standing at an impressive three feet four inches, P'shad towers over his fellow volus. He uses a highly complex exo-suit(on top of his enviro-suit) to perform a variety of tasks (mostly shooting more than one target at a time).
And many More!
EDIT: Reading other suggestions has reminded me why I stay away from this forum. You people can't go for five minutes without slapping someone with the ending sucks rant. Mass Effect is all about choice, and the ending slaps you in the face because you can't win. No amount of Reputation or sidequests will let you have that perfect ending where it all goes right. Kill the Reapers, as well as your ship and the Geth but survive, Control the Reapers and give up your character's humanity, sacrifice yourself to engage Synthesis to bring peace, or Refuse and doom the cycle to assimilation, and let the next-cycle shepard make the tough decison.
The next Mass Effect is not ME4, it will not be another DAII(I enjoyed it), and no matter how terrible the ending is, you will still buy it. Because it's fun.
I hope you all feel quite full of yourselves now, you bunch of horrid, bullying, insensitive monsters.

You play as a captain, and are actually referred to as Captain.
You have a rather large ship, perhaps a cruiser (this is possible with next gen and having more cells available in real time)
Its essentially Star Trek, but different enough...screw it, its the same.
You are part of an initiative to find new races and expand the wealth of the galaxy.
Eventually you stumble across a race, or a league of races that were keeping to themselves, or only had access to part of the relay network.
