Shepard dying in the suicide mission wasn't considered canon.
So they could just make ME4 with a survived Shepard from destroy, or a clone secretly stored in some Cerberus lab. The possibilities are endless.
I would prefer a ME with the same characters, give more love for ME2 characters while adding some new.

BW have picked canon endings before, they will do so again.
Just cause they can't go anywhere but forward. They can make the same story for Destroy and Control, if they didn't want Shepard to return. So they'd only ****** of Synthesis players. Refuse doesn't count.
Yeah, you're probably right. Synthesis is just way to... let's call it 'exotic' (sounds much better than f****ed up

I personally would love to see what happens after ME3, whether that be a few years, tens of years or even hundreds of years in the future.
It could focus on exploring neighboring galaxies, undiscovered mass relays etc. Bring in some new species along the way.
And I think the most important thing to do would be to not have Shepard as the protagonist, his story finished with ME3.

Synethesis is the same as ME2s "Shepard dies" ending, it has no future, sorry.Shin-Anubis wrote...

Yeah, you're probably right. Synthesis is just way to... let's call it 'exotic' (sounds much better than f****ed up) to go on from there. But Control and Destroy can be combined with slightly different things to encounter during future gameplay.
Control and Destroy both share the same future, aslong as it is said that the Reapers returned to dark space some time after the Control ending, maybe their work rebuilding was done, or too much hard feelings against the Reapers forced them to leave in order to prevent chaos.
That was 2/3 of the player base can carry on with their chosen endings. Thats the best BW can do in this situation. Synthesis is too different and too "perfect" to make anything with other then a sim.

The trouble with doing a prequel is that we already know where it is going to end up, unless Bioware can throw a twist on it I don't think it's going to be a wise move.

Some big story in the past where we save the galaxy against a threat, pointless. We know that in the end the Reapers own that cycle. Too hollow.

Call it "Mass Effect: Spectre". Human, Salarian and Asari are your starting race options. Each has an 'Act One' on their respective homeworlds. After they prove themselves, they are taken to the Council for Spectre testing and training.
Make it incredibly RPG'ish. Have different quest lines based on your species. Have the overarching plot be a bit more sneaky and have your character put in less of a spotlight. Start with a small 2-person ship and as you progress and gain allies, you get bigger ships.
Different companions for each race with a few of the same ones running through each Species Arc.
I quite like the sound of that. I'd also like to see different ways of doing missions, being able to employ stealth or brute force etc.

There it is. Problem solved. You get an awesome game with a formula that we know can work pretty well and that doesn't strain anyone's writing capabilities, which I think in the loong run is the best for everyone.

Well, it can be argued that the Synthesised galaxy does have future (and BioWare would want you to believe it is the perfect end and that everyone should be happy), I for one just don't want to play a ME game in that particular future.

I'm going to get some flak for this, but I honestly think a MMORPG is the way to go. The world is set, the characters are set. It could take place after the endings with two power blocks, the Citadel space with the usual races and the Urdnot federation, with Krogan, Vorcha and what remains of the Batarians. Humans could be on either side. Adventures take place, systems change hands, guilds are formed.

As I said before, just make a whole new exiting story in the setting of mass effect long time after the ending with old and new races and much new things to discover and new cool characters. I've played the ME games for more then 400 hours and I'm ready for something new without Shepard and his/her companions now, even if it wasn't easy to say goodbye.

You play as your character's child (with your love interest).
This could fit into any story. Destruction: Shepard lives and has a child with their love interest or alone. Control/Syn: Shepard's love interest was pregnant before earth, or love interest used shepard's DNA to make a child, or shepard's DNA was used alone to make a child. DNA could have come from a variety of sources including cerberus.
Depending on love interest, character could be a different race. Or mixed race.

Still I've been away from the forums for quite awhile. Not that it matters too much here.
I guess my opinion on the matter is as follows:
I've never been a huge fan of prequels and it's just because I tend to think they take away the excitement of the story since you for the most part already know how things are going to turn out. The huge 300lb monkey in the room with a prequel is going to be the 'Reapers' are on their way reguardless of how it's written. And I tend to think this is the limiting factor in writting prequel stories. Hell I know the Starwars Prequels caused quite a stir with that fan base.
Now writting something latter on in the universe for me would be better. . But. . . The endings of ME3 caused a enormous uproar. . . I think will cause issues with those who for whatever reason think this ending is better than that one so on and such later.
Dose this mean I think they shouldn't make another story in the ME universe? No, they should make another if they want to. The ME universe is still fairly youthful and open and could use a few more storys based in it in my opinion.
So I don't know maybe a lesser character might be better? I always thought maybe a mystery based in a detective role might be interesting or exploring the facets of the reconstruction efforts. Or maybe this character's story line starts with some overlap towards the end of ME3. Then again, maybe this character has to explore or find ways to tie societies back together again after the relays fizzled out or even just getting a few of the warriors home might be a issue.
Maybe the 'end' of Shepard's ME story didn't quite go as planned a few (or many) years later?
I also think some of the story elements in Shepard's ME 1,2,3 tend to forget that these various societies will have diffferent ambitions reguardless of the outcome. Most of the time the choices / outcomes in Shepard's story seemed to be 'hopeful' thinking. As irrational as it might sound, some maybe very stuborn to let go of some things no matter how 'nice' or 'bad' you were to them. Also unforseen pressures might be building within some societies forcing their hand. Critial leaders may have died as well in the battle with the reapers. Some may start fighting again, while others may not. Who know's maybe your Shepard was the antagonist with reguardless of your choices in their eyes. On the other hand maybe some societes have completely changed there ways too and those who were originally peaceful may no longer be anymore.
Maybe a cult formed worshiping Shepard as well? The universe is going to go though a bit of a dark time since the ME relays were overloaded so who knows. Shepard's name would be most likely well known out there with the amount of news spread about. But maybe there are bit more rumors floating out there than actual facts. Information could lag for awhile, supplies are going to take a bit more time to get from place to place. And there is going to be a lot of potential issues with floating 'stuff' in odd places out there. *shrugs*
All I know is nature is a lot more messy then people realize . . .
But those are a few of my thoughts on the matter.
Good luck.

Now......deploy N7 Paladin flameshield.

This. I realise Casey has contributed a great deal to ME, but his actions in the ME3 build-up and after have removed all his credibility. Personally I find it hard not to loathe the man for his outrageous PR lies, not buying a game he's heading almost feels like a point of principle now.
That said I don't feel any need to play a new ME game. But that said, I abandoned my principles on not buying any ME3 DLC when I got offered Leviathan for only £1.99!

I disagree with these comments that we need Shep to have a Mass Effect game. While he was the main character for the story so far he is not the only person able to make a impact on the universe. An in case people forgot I will put this in bold for you. Bioware said that Mass Effect 3 was the end of shep's story. This was said months before the game even hit stores. So we all knew this and should have excepted this. If you didn't like the endings. Well I am sorry but that is your problem and not Biowares. Since while we fans do have a impact on franchises. The story and way the game plays out should be in the hands of those who have made the game. I don't mean to say we shouldn't be ask what we like to see in a game but that it should be just taking as a suggestion and the staff of bioware should decide wheither they want to use it or not.

What I don't want to see is a "prequel" type game that takes place either during the events of ME1, 2 and 3, or before ME1 itself.

What I'd like to see is a new ME game, with a new protagonist and supporting cast, that takes place about 1 century after the events in ME3 and shows us what a "post-Reaper War" galaxy looks like. Remove some races that didn't quite work out in previous games ("harvested by the Reapers"), introduce new races who just discovered space flight and recently joined the galactic community, show us how different worlds have rebuilt in the wake of the last war or even show new places that didn't exist before the Reaper invasion. in short: a new, exciting galaxy that offers plenty of opportunity to tell new stories.

I agree with this idea and the view of a prequel in ME

No prequels, no MMO, no pure FPS/action/action-adventure game.
I really want another ME RPG trilogy, set AFTER ME3 and with a new hero we can customize like Shep and transfer throughout 3 games.
Plz Bioware!
I essentially agree with everything I quoted, but would like to make a few comments:
I don't need a triology. I would rather have 1 truely outstanding game than 3 meh games that happen to transfer over. But the only way to execute this (IMO) is to not be afraid to make a long, uncompromising game.
I would rather see a sequel (how Bioware decides to make that work is another story, I personally see Destory as the easiest but that's not my decision). We already know the history of the current cycle, we know how it ends up, not need to retell it. However, a prequel going back far enough to a previous cycle could also work, though honestly, I would find that less interesting.
Other than that, I think the current action/RPG formula works well, but could definitely use a bit more RPG elements. Keep it story and character driven, and it it should be fine...hopefully.
All else fails, make a remake of ME1 with new tech

This is easy, I want to play as all the different races in a pre-reaper galaxy at least 5 years before the ME trilogy. Post-ME3 is unlikely, and I don't even want to bother with that discussion.
I would agree with this. I'd like to play as any of the races in the mass effect world, with a somewhat linear story to follow.
