My advice to Bioware for the next Mass Effect Game:

http://www.escapistm...ect-Pasta-Sauce

Don't be afraid to take a chance and be different. Thats what made Mass Effect 1 so awesome. Trying to be safe and making your game similar to another successful game always fails.

Mass Effect 4: FOOLED YOU!

Frack that weaksauce indoctrination theory some people spew about. In this game, everything from Eden Prime on through the series has all been one big indoctrination-induced fever dream in the mind of commander Shepard. This is where you find out that Shepard was actually indoctrinated at the very beginning of the series, and you must now take control of Nihilus, Saren, the Illusive Man, the collector general, and other brave heroes to stop the indoctrinated Shepard from using the catalyst to subjugate the entire galaxy.

I don't know if you guys already chosen a composer already but if not... Please hire Bear McCreary, the man who compose 2004 Battlestar Galactica series.

Not sure if this is viable with your systems you are working with but I would really like to explore the universe as a non-human, Asari, Turian, etc, Sort of a Mass Effect Origins, have a small origins section and then move on into the main story. I know you all have this thing for making the protagonist human, but to be honest we have had a decade of the human side of things, I would really like to explore the other aspects of the ME universe. Oh and one MUST thing, no Reapers.

1.No prequels or "during the events of". It should be a sequel. Canon is inevitable. (since Citadel it THAT good, you may scrap the ending altogether, go IT, destroy ,control or whatever you want, the only way you guys should never take is synthesis)

2.Good story (no more space magic, space ninjas, spacebrats, colored explosions, etc). Think it through. Hire a tech guy to write descriptions for techy things - this is important, it's a SyFi after all. Story could be short but interesting and engaging (like in ME1). Don't break the lore. This may work in multiplayer but not in a story. Yes it could be done if it looks cool or explained (Space Battle CGIs, omniblade), but in other 99% it's a huge fail of wtf moment for players (kaileng, reapers-starbat, synthesys, only 3 ardat-yakshi, walking without helmet in vacuum, reapers never attacked the citadel etc)

3. Exploration. More of it. You may make it optional but rewarding. (upgrades, new skins for companions, weapons) Use locations we've never been. Make them extremely detailed (how these places work? (Omega DLC- good example) what do they represent in the ME universe, What's the history of this place? Companions reaction etc). Don't forget to add a few npc characters, because they are the soul of these places. Less places - more quality.

4. Characters and companions. Characters are essentially why we play bioware games. There is nothing to say really, only a few words about interaction. Since it's a new game we are not buddies yet, these characters are new to us, and we are new to them. During the game this attitude may change, but not to extend of ME3. Dialogues with companions on the ship/base/party camp should be more like in ME2 style(character moves, reacts, camera moves to new angle, etс ), when we may ask a lot of question(or npc may ask us about something) a few times during one dialogue session. 2-3 large branched dialogues with each companion during each story arc. Yes, it's a lot of work, but it's so much more rewarding then just words of the screen when npc is literally ignores you(or scares you with unnaturaly flexible neck), Yes this type of dialogues(without camera) are convinient, easier to make, less time consuming, and good for a lot of thing - comments after missions, party banter, npc speaking around(stories, lore, other little things, not sure about  quests - not a good idea imo), comments about locations, vendors, other minor things. But companions are not minor things, they are the center of the game for a lot of us (Just look at the Citadel DLC) and interaction with them should be belivable end engaging, moreover these are new characters and if they will meet us with just words above their head, well...do you guys remember when you first time tried to speak with Zaeed on the Normandy in ME2(What? Where is the dialogue wheel? Why I can't ask him anything?). Imagine all of his stories could be done with diffirent interactive camera, dialogue wheel and if Shepard could ask him: "So how exactly you made it out alive that day? Something tells me this could be userful information for me in future" - Zaeed could be so much more popular character. So my point is - save resourses for complex multilevel dialogues with interactive camera for companions and other important dialogues, use "words above the head" type for minor dialogues. Also i would like to ask my companions for advice at some points of the game to get bonus reward/reputation of something ("Tali, can you fix this thing?" "Sure!" "Do you think we can trust this guy, Wrex?" "I'll eat him if not".) A few words about party banter -don't over do it. ME is a serious SyFi universe, party banter should be appropriate.

5. Gameplay and Customization. I was very satisfied with ME3 combat and multiplayer so i have no fears for me4 combat as well. I only wish Insanity difficulty level in the next game to be truly insane. Guns -weapon upgrades system in ME3 was good and balanced, i wouldn't mind more though, especially ship customization and upgrades (why should i upgrade my ship? (aside from "a lot of people like to upgrade things") that is the question to you dear developers. To survive the radiation in deep space(new locations)? to fly longer in relay free space? to steathrun enemy fleets or recon missions? ) Now since we are talking about upgrades and economy: How exactly we will earn our credits? (or other diffirent rare materials for upgrades) Sure there will be missions and quests, but i wish we could earn something rare in diffirent ways. Example - side mission, suddenly BAM a rich asteroid on the way, we may sell coords to huge corporation of small facility, with a diffirent consequences for this sector of the galaxy and for you and so on.
Also do not allow the cinematic nature of the series to mess with the gameplay. Gameplay is much more important. Why? Because it's a ****ing video game! When i play a videogame i want to kill a boss, save some princess, be a hero, survive the suicide mission etc. It doesn't mean that to be a game-movie is bad or something (look at the me1 -hell of a game, and it looks like a movie). It only means that if you play a game -  you want to play it and NOT to watch it. Also about suicide mission concept -use it. Ore use it at some extend. One of the reasons ME3 fails at the end was lack of the suicide mission concept(apparently it was too videogamey as well as boss fight).

6.Keep the composers. They are very talanted people and i wish they would stay with ME for future games.

It would be cool if in ME4 people could 'Gift' weapons packs to people on their friends list or even to people in their lobby.

...is good to speak about a new ME, when the one we have is finished how is finished?
I'd like a new ME only if is a sequel, and can give a closure for ME3. (there is one that ending doesn't have closure. not even with EC.)
with a little video, with a codex, don't care: but I want closure. not a cliff hanger.

as for me, I'd like a sequel with the new danger of the Leviathans, with a non-human protagonist. Quarian, Turian (I really like lady turian <3) or Dreel. It would be fun little after ME3, with most world/colonies still repairing themself from the reaper attack.
And I'd like the protagonist if is not a soldier, or if he/she is one, is not anymore in the military. I'm quite tired of the "perfect soldier" thing. I'd prefer a mercenary, a spy, a thief, or a simple ingeneer.

Does Casey actually even read this thread? Probably not. Is the man even alive? His twitter seems well, but I'm thinking it's a double of Casey. Just kidding, but I really hope he reads these ideas. The recipe to fan success is right here.

Basically with they can cross Mass Effect with Firefly they should do that.

You should still have your own ship and a squad/crew to travel with.

This, in fact, just make a ME game with Nathan Fillion as the protagonist.

Since it seems Bioware Montreal would be in charge of this project (they worked on elements of multiplayer, the N7 sidequests and some of the DLC for ME 2 & 3), you'd have to figure out which team of writers would be in charge of this. There can be no great story-driven game without great minds at the helm. Bringing back the likes of Chris L'Etoile, Lukas Kristjanson and Drew Karpyshyn would be hard, probably out of the question, but to start fresh they'd do well in remembering what made ME 1 so successful. There are a few veterans in Bioware Edmonton who were there from the beginning, with proven love for the franchise and I hope their voices carry the weight they deserve.

I hope they focus on something other than Reapers, but still try and continue with the ambitious storytelling. I have no idea how they could do that though. Any sort of straight prequel would be pointless, so really it has to be a story on a smaller, more personal scale but nevertheless feel significant even in comparison with the events of the ME trilogy.

So...rather than a hero saves the galaxy story, it needs to be hero saves something rather less important but important enough to engage me for a 30 hour game.

I'd really like to see both more exploration, but less of a crazy race around the galaxy as well. So, seeing as a planet is just an island in space, it could be a bit like Dead Island or something, where your character is based in a general location for a while and get to explore it. A bit like Halo perhaps, where you travel across the world on missions.

Being based in one place (like a fledgling colony cut off from the wider galaxy during the Reaper war) could create a sort of emotional basis for the story. The player could develop a sentimental attachment to the place and inhabitants while being forced to defend it for example. Again, rather than just rushing around the galaxy without the chance to get to know a place.

Maybe this is not what Mass Effect is about for some people, but I think they need to go in a vastly different direction now the trilogy is over.

But anyway they'll surely have had their initial conception for a while, so what I think would be cool....

A focus on uncharted worlds would be returning to what Mass Effect was originally all about.

Larger and more complex squad-based combat.

More interaction with alien cultures.

New aliens!!!

Or combining some of the above ideas it could be about contact with a new alien species, unknown to the Reapers, and the player must work to hide their existence from the Reapers and defend their world.

Well let's see,

You killed off the main character. And you killed off all the major villains.
You didn't really leave yourself much room for a sequel.

So prequel then?

NO!

I would hope everyone learned form Star Wars the folly of trying to create something new when everyone already knows how it will play out. And that would only really only leave you the time from the First Contact War to the Skillian Blitz. Not a lot of room for creative freedom there.

So... Suggestions? Two Words:

CLEAN SLATE

Whether Casey Hudson wants to admit it or not, most people are still pretty unhappy with how ME3 went down - to the point of being turned off the entire trilogy. So I would strongly advise as few references to the original trilogy as possible. Do NOT include any of the original characters, and do NOT include any fallout from the Reaper invasion.

ME4 should be something totally new and different. Perhaps far in the future of the ME universe (to a point where ships no longer require the the mass relays and biotics are much more refined) or perhaps about an Alliance exploration mission in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, where a new sinister threat emerges beyond the intervention of the rest of the galaxy.
What Mass Effect needs, is to recapture that wonder and mystery that it had back in ME1.

Although it pains me to say this, whatever form ME4 takes, I probably won't play it.
I always admired the little game developer from my home town that went all the way. I played practically every title BioWare ever released, but the sad truth is: I no longer have the faith in the company that I once did. I'm at a point now, where I would rather spend my time and money on my own ideas than on yours. I am very sorry.

Next ME game will be just awfull ugly after we dont know what really happens in ME3. No matter what they want to do. Bioware was ended after DA:O, they only make next parts of old IP with crapiest story than before on BF engine.

Hello late to the party! Here is my 2 cents …

I hope it will have character customization, choice of human or aliens and the dialog wheel. If the next to come after ME3 timeline I think the only way it can work. Before ME the lore have been established, story that run at the side of ME would not make much sense/difference do to the endings.

1. The control (no longer Shepard) a group of the antagonist/protagonist (mixed humans and aliens) plants a virus that has been in works for years to corrupt the control reaper. Antagonist/protagonist (choice of player) – stands against the control of one being guiding the course of the universe. You are the (Antagonist/protagonist) free the universe.

2. The synthesis (both man and machine) but what would be consider birth defects pure humans and aliens alike hidden at birth protected by their parents but at risk the population consider them dangerous. Be one of the defects and find and unite the others and find a place where your group can live in peace or fight for the right to exist.

3. The destroyed – this would be the hardest to continue after all the dust has settled down Liara last of the group died the people could deal with this dark energy, the Yahg, exploration, discovery of new aliens and new threats.

All of these continue on thousand years later. Store lore remains new lore can be add that tied into. Now how this can be tied into one another to become one story (one game) unless. We have Mass Effect: Synthesis, next game Mass Effect: Control and the last Mass Effect: Destroy.

Vorcha Squadmate hells to the yeah.

Bonus points If Bioware can break the Vorcha racial stereotype and give us a CHARACTER and not a one-line quip-machine.

Plus I'm sure there's something In a game In the series which mentions Vorcha raised offworld are regular productive members of society. Might have been the Engineers we got with Leviathan?

Also I thing It would be an excellent chance to get us emotionally attached to a brand new character which we know has a very limited life-span, done right this could be an excellent opportunity Bioware!

Also, three more things now that I think about it:
1. Bring back exploration, Mako style. The galaxy felt larger in ME1.
2. Women in appropriate armour. Cat suits, high heels & face masks in hostile atmosphere or vacuum is just stupid.
3. The ability to fit different armour on squad members. Maybe let them keep their signature style or whatever like DA3, but damn I'd have loved to have given Liara better armour in ME3.

I would like to see the unexplored galaxy beyond the omega 4 relay that's open world style with a sword and sci-fi fantasy, for example the old DC comic Warlord. You could have a mention of Shepard and his squad mates in some way like they entered the omega 4 relay and they crashed on this " Old World" and introduced there new technology in some degree and with the opposers of this new technology there were wars and from that it would set up the world like that in the comic Warlord.
