Casey Hudson wants to hear fan's ideas on a new mass effect game

1. I would like to see the galaxy rebuilding (some top priorities being to fix [or finish up, assuming your ME3 ending allowed for Reaper assistance to fixing them] the Mass Relays, and to move the Citadel back to the Serpent nebula). And maybe we can see some new resentment towards humanity because Earth is basically the center since the Citadel is there now (non-humans want it put back in the Serpent Nebula, The Alliance wants it to just stay where it's at).
2. Also, I'm hoping to see how the remaining Batarians fit in (maybe they return to the ruins of their homeworld to rebuild their civilization, BUT this time not be cut off from the rest, and wanting to reopen an embassy on the Citadel) with the post-reaper Galaxy. Alongside the Batarians, I want to actually visit Irune, Dekunna, and Kahje to see the rebuilding.
3. Okay, I know at this point all I have is a random list of things, but here's another thing: I want some assignments/missions to be specific to which playthrough you are doing. For example, if you did Control in ME3, maybe we can see a planet the reapers (under the command of the Shepardalyst) where we do a mission/assignment, but this mission will never happen in a Destroy import. I can't think of any others right now, but you get the idea.
4. If they decide to "go big" with the scope of the game, I really hope the Leviathans are involved. The big scope plot could have the whole game be about the Leviathans trying to make us their thraws and we are now hunting them down. Or if Bioware decides to go smaller, we could at least have one mission involving them (just not the whole "we have to wipe them all out" plot)
5. Instead of having a "Genesis 3" comic, I want them to come up with a program to let us indirectly import ME3 outcomes to this assumed Next-Gen game. I use the word program loosely. It could either be a mac/windows/linux program that we are given in the game (via a code), which uses our Origin account info to "find" our playthroughs, then exports them to the ME4 game. Or just use Origin. I really know nothing about programming, or anything about the saves, so for all I know, it is impossible to do any of that, meaning only "Genesis 3" or a Mass Effect Trilogy next-gen port can give us import abilities.

1. The state of the galaxy. What happens next? Based on your choices, what will happen? Will races starve to death (Quarians and Turians) from being stuck in Sol for awhile, or will the Relays be rebuilt quick enough for them to be saved? (Well, really, more like repaired.)
2.I agree with 50.Cal here, if they make it post ME3, it's likely going to have to be destroy ending, it leaves the most room for plot development.
3.The Geth, did they survive, in some shape, way or form?
4. The power struggle that is sure to come. The Citadel is at Earth! Who's to say everybody won't be vying for it at such a vunerable position.
5.The fate of the Alliance, the Alliance was unable to really protect Earth, or her colonies during the reaper war, it took the off chance of a super weapon working, the catalyst, to save what was left of Earth, will the people Rebel on the belief that the Alliance is unable to effectively protect them? It's a perfect time for some kind of Civil War esque plot here. Humanity has been bruised, and battered, who else for the people to turn the blame too then the guys who allowed the reapers to fly right too Earth?
6. Perhaps the next game could even be about exploring a new frontier, specificly Ardromeda, because who's to say Reapers didn't just work at the Milky Way? Maybe there are surviviors out there that need to be dealt with, aside from that, just exploring the old Milky Way, and the new Ardromeda, think of it, exploring a new frontier, a new land, untouched by our galaxies races, whose to say we won't meet anyone there, and if we don't, what about finding out what happened to them? Why haven't beings from other galaxies who pentetionally did not have Reapers, or weren't brought to extinction by Synthetic creations unable to reach the Milky Way, maybe they didn't want to, we have alot to work with people! Let's go! Oh and, exploring our burned galaxy too, it'd be like the wild west, except in SPAAAACE!

1. First Contact War - After creating your character, depending on what race you pick, turian or human, you are immediately dropped into heavy conflict as a grunt, and through your progress in this opening, you make your origin for the character in a sense. depending on what race you picked, you would progress through the lore, and then the end of the war. multiple plays would be great (couple of endings for each race), and depending on your actions you're character may go on to live or die at the end.
2. How about a sequel trilogy 5,000 years in the future, give us the same choices (except refuse and synthesis), and the lore can follow along. 5,000 years is plenty of time to forget exactly what transpired in the original trilogy. But instead of starting as a soldier, why not let us grow up in the trilogy, from child to adult. The universe of Mass Effect is the perfect place. It would give us an even deeper connection than we had with Shepard. Also, the 2 options placed at the beginning can just propel the lore of the game, and can be left to be revealed in the middle of the new trilogy. It would be nice to see something about the dark energy, or maybe there was a robot army from another universe where they failed to stop the same thing and now it's coming to get the milky way. and depending on your 2 choices at the beginning, you could have or not have something (although reaper remnants would be balllllllerrrrr, aside from blue ending). Cause honestly, I never wanted the Reapers completely defeated. They could linger as a boogie man in the cosmos, or something completely opposite.
3. Please do not do a random spin off. That saddens me. It's kinda...predictable and lazy. You have an entire universe you created and the major topic I keep seeing is..... playing as liara or garrus. no thank you, respectfully. I have fond memories of those characters already, but, it seems lackluster to just play as one of them right afterwards. I feel that if our Shepards are gone, then we have to say goodbye to the crew, since Shep is what brought them all together in the first place. And if you just have to use a character already in the games, see option 1 and put the illusive man in place of the man character and close off the turian race option.
4. RTS! Mass Effect RTS. If you're going to do a spin off, venture into another genre, besides the typical fps.
5. Switching between characters like in the original KOTOR would be a nice addition as long as it's balanced and doesn't hinder the flow of the game, given that KOTOR and Mass Effect are two completely different styles of rpg.
6. How about playing the role of Saren, only he defeats Shepard at the end of the first game, but can't let the reapers in through dark space cause of Shepards intervention. You end up going through the omega 4 relay and use the collectors and geth as your allies, and you could pick up the batarians and eventually the reapers could show up and galactic war.
7. With next gen...it would be nice to be able to take a picture of your face and use it for your character. You could then edit it and polish it to look exactly like you.
8. Also...I would like to see games that aren't necessarily video games. Board games, deck building games, pen and paper rpg, etc. I heard the Mass Effect Risk rumor, but i'll believe it when I see it on a shelf or in my hands. A deck building game instead of a ccg would be great. I got some ideas for that as well, but i'll save it and move on. Pen and paper....I don't even really feel like this needs much discussion besides the fact it makes sense. Mutants and Masterminds or BESM only lets you get so close. As for etc....you could go the way of ccg, but that market is rather frustrating, from a players perspective and deck building games have definitely picked up steam. Board games other than risk would be great too, like Mass Effect Catan.
9. Sneaking this in real quick...playing as a descendant of Shepard and his romance interests bloodline...that would be a good tie in back to the original trilogy as well. There is a insidious plot i'm sure you at bioware can work around that idea, and I've heard it brought up before in the forums, i'm pretty sure. Or maybe the Spectres no longer exist and they're called the Shepards instead...or a Shepard Temple in the game. But playing as a descendant, that sounds pretty fun... and meaningful.
Anyways, there's my two cents for now. I had some other ideas but honestly, I'm tired from work and it's time to get some zzz's. Everyone...enjoy your day:) and thanks for reading.

Well, since we aren't going to play Shepard, what about being able to pick our own race?

#6. I had thought about that at one point too, the Reapers not just existing in the Milky Way. Milky Way is the Origin Galaxy.

Here are some features that, I think, would be cool.
1) Use of "the cloud" to provide players with up to date data on how their choices compared to other players globally and to their friends. So, if you're at a point in the game where you need to make a decison, in addition to the responses in the dialogue wheel or interrupt, a percentage will appear next to it showing how the choices faired against other gamers. There will be another number in parenthesis showing your friends choices.
2) Timed decisions. You don't get to sit and take your time. Like The Walking Dead Telltale Series, you have a visible time limit w/in which you make your choice. The game cannot be paused here. If you try hitting the Xbox home button as a work around, for instance, the clock keeps running. No time to consult the wikia or guides to see what you need to pick and what the outcome will be. This will give greater weight and urgency to your decision and make for a more "honest" experience.
3) Tied into this, if you take too long, the game will make the decision for you. You can set your game to either randomize the choices OR to pick whichever choice was favored most OR LEAST! If there is a tie, then it will "randomize" between the equal values.
4) Like TWD TTS, checkpoint (or auto )saves only! No game saves before a critical choice and going back to that save in case it doesn't pan out. Your game will be saved at specified points or intervals. Again, this will make for a more honest experience and will have you more invested. Afterall, when you know that you can just take your metaphorical Delorean time machine back to a save and, say, stop character X from dying because you picked "left middle" in the dialogue wheel, the decision doesn't seem to carry as much gravity. Like in real life, you don't get to take your sweet time and consult spoilers to look ahead. So I think this will make the experience more immersive, fluid and honest. That's why we love this series, right?
Thoughts?

Ugh, NO thank you.
1) I don't really care how my choices stack up to other people.
2/3) I'm a nook-and-cranny player, I LIKE taking my time and exploring everything. Better to keep it with making choices where the results aren't immeadiatly known, making it too much of a hastle to go back and replay everything just to change a bad one.
4) I HATE being forced to only save at certain times, especially if I have to replay the entire buildup to a difficult battle instead of being able to save right before hand. It's NOT real life - however immersive it may be - who cares how "honest" it is.
I play games to relax, I don't want to feel preassured while I'm playing.

E.g., You're strolling along in some ward on the citadel and you overhear something like this from a news broadcast; "Councilor Shepard is taking on a new challenge these days; fatherhood. Both he and his wife, Dr. Liara T'soni, welcomed their new bundle of joy yesterday. We at ANN wish them both the best".

2/3) But aren't P/R interrupts timed decisions? I'm not saying EVERY decision, but maybe certain critical ones where there's no way in hell you'd be given a chance to sit and stare at someone in real life for 15 minutes before responding.
4) You dont', but maybe others would? People loved TWD TT and that's what it did. People seem to really dig State of Decay and that's what it uses, from what I understand.

But anyway, the fourth game should be about the Galaxy struggling to get things back into order, wild west, but in space.
But, to be honest, to hear my ideas refer to my previous post.

There are many, many games that use a checkpoint saves dynamic, including lots of good ones. I highly doubt that that was a big part of what made them good in the first place.
The two points actually go hand-in-hand, ultimately it comes down to curtailing the player's freedom and that's never a good thing, especially in an RPG.
Look, if you want to rush through a game making snap decisions and missing out on content that's fine, no one's stopping you. What does it matter to you if I want to sit there for an hour reloading the same trivial piece of dialogue ten times so that I can see every permutation?

I saw your post; I'm sure everyone closely following this thread did. The truth is your ideas echo many others already posted on here. I posted one myself a few weeks ago suggesting many of the same things you did - which is good, hopefully BioWare will note the pattern and act on it accordingly.

Story-wise, think of it as a buddy cop movie where the player is a a customizable human who gets paired up with Garrus, who at this point is in his early days and has not yet had much contact with humans. This makes him a bit racist, or at least a bit cautious when it comes to contact with other races, but over the course of the game the two of you would get to know each other better, and by the end of the game, like any good buddy cop movie, you would be close friends. The game could segue into the first Mass Effect with Garrus going on to investigate Sarren on his own after having dealt with the game's threat.
Gameplay-wise, this would be the mix of an open world game with a lot of stuff that could carry over from the previous games. The shooting sections could still be squad based, except with only one ally, but they should less militaristic and more personal. Close quarters combat could cool, a real fighting system and all. But the game should not be all out action and have the pace of the say, first Mass Effect game. A lot of clue investigating and suspect interrogating. This is where the Paragon-Renegade system could come in, you could choose who would be the bad cop in the situation, and this could affect your relationship with Garrus.
I imagine that the story would be case-by-case but with an over arching story. In between the missions you could be free to explore the world.
The most important thing would be have a large fully explorable Citadel that you could navigate through with the flying cars, it would be important and a hard task to make the world feel real, as this would be one of the first games to have an open-world in a sci-fi setting. (There are things like Deus Ex but that's set on Earth.) It would be great if the world wasn't just the bits from the trilogy with added stuff, but a compelte overhaul that is massive and fully explorable with side quests and such.
And to all the people asking for another RPG trilogy, I think that'd be cool but with Mass Effect being such a massive galaxy, I think it's better to explore smaller scale ideas as well. After all, my biggest problem with Mass Effect 3 was that it was TOO large, and the ending made it so everything in the universe changed forever. Especially considering the backlash, it would be wise to take a step backwards after the last game.

There's rumours circulating around that the next Mass Effect game might be an MMORPG, while I don't object to the idea as it definitely could work, I have a few ideas on an MMO and another RPG.
MMO
Following the ending of Mass Effect 3, maybe we could have the good old race/class select with various creation options (as you do with any MMORPG) and be able to;- Travel to as many different possible planets/space stations in the universe
- Have real-time combat, kind of like Guild Wars 2 does. It seems like the way of the future for MMOs, as it makes 40+ skills and standing still spamming them a thing of the past.
- Encourage social play with others but also be flexible with solo play.
This is a difficult subject because the generic MMO has raiding as the 'endgame' to keep people playing. I'm no designer, so I don't have many ideas about something new and fresh.
Also, next-gen consoles will be able to play MMOs, so it won't be just a PC-exclusive feature anymore.
RPG
Another RPG following the events of the trilogy, I would love that also.
- Open world! I'm talking open world like the TES games, be able to visit any world that is habitable. Sounds like it could take a whole lifetime to develop! Open world games are just awesome.
- Have your own ship which would count as a 'player home', or even buildings you can purchase on certain cities.
- Keep the same squad idea and be able to travel with 2 squad mates, or more for real intense battles.
The lifespan of an RPG could stretch for years on end, especially if the dev kit is released for modders on PC a few years after release. There are some talented modders out there who have used dev kits to totally enhance the experience and put new life in games.
Regarding the dev kit, I doubt EA would okay this, for reasons unknown. Following recent statements from EA about how next generation consoles are more powerful than current-gen high-end PCs really show the intelligence of some within the corporation. If something like this happened, the potential for success would be insane among the PC community.
Just some random ideas. I'm excited to see what there is for Mass Effect in the future. There's a lot of butthurt about future plans and on these forums in general, but there are still many who like the franchise regardless of how the trilogy ended. What's done is done.
As for story, I'm not sure, there seems to be a lot of creativity regarding story on this thread so I'll leave it to them. All I have to add for story is; we could have a tool to analyse our ME3 save file to determine what is happening in the galaxy. This sounds like one hell of a feature, but difficult to implement. It wouldn't bother me if it wasn't there, but I'd sure like it if it was.
Speaking from a PC point of view
- I'd like options to totally push our PCs as hard as possible so the hardware can really make the game shine to its maximum potential. All sorts of options such as AA/FXAA, Tesselation, DoF, Shadow quality, character/NPC model & clothing quality, etc. and of course... an Ultra option for those who can use it! Some people spend thousands on a gaming PC to be able to do things like this
- I also agree with DRM, as it prevents piracy. PC needs DRM because developers lose a lot of income due to cheap gamers not wanting to support developers by buying their games they spent so much time working on. Giving PC gamers an awesome experience would also encourage them to support the product. Scumbag PC gamers torrenting games is just not cool.
I can't stand Origin, but I'm sure more options for PC gamers would make the software seem less terrible. The only reason I use Origin is for Mass Effect 3 because it is not on Steam.
The next game has so much room to move and beat the previous games in any which way possible. I'm totally looking forward to it, even though I have concerns of what it has to offer for the PC community. As said earlier, by all means, restrict it (DRM), so peasants can't pirate it, make it awesome for PC and TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Cloud? - Big no no in my Book, same for Timed Decisions (sorry, but hypothetically: your Girlfriend/Parents/Friends/Roomate(s) etc. come in when you have to make a decision...so really no
Well Back to "Cloud" - no, i want for Origin (and the new games for it) to have an "Offline"-Button so that i can take my Laptop out for a spin with the game on it and it is not possible with this "you have to be online" crap! (hell steam does have this and is just fine!)
Checkpoints/only Auto-Saves - come on, we are not mid 90's/on a Nintendo 64 or something similar, just no (why should we have to waste our time to replay sections, just because the power went out, we had to leave before finishing a section etc.)...it is so old fashioned that it is not even funny
This would make me really hate this game (!) - and not just dislike it...i would probably get frustrated really fast and drop it into some dark corner never to be seen again (not bothering to finish it either!)
Yes i play on the Computer and everything mentioned screams Console to me (and i dislike that!) and if i want a Console i will buy one (which i wont do) - so please don't!
It would make the whole game look cheap (being able to save any time you want to is an accomplishment, not a bother or something like that), being able to play without that cloud/constant internet-connection would be another (this would be a step back into a time honest players were not looked at with suspicion, like we are today). Same for things like introducing quicktime-events (on the scale of the current Assassin's Creed or Tomb Raider)...sorry, but make a good game, don't stretch it out by implementing things like this (were you quite often enough fail the first time and have to replay - which takes time!)!
greetings LAX
ps: @Master-Che: You might like to play on old Consoles, if you want to turn back time to games without making your own Savegames
pps: and NO MMO please for the love of anything that is holy
ppps: and not 100% open world either that is TES and while i loved the TES games, it does not fit ME-Universe IMHO (yes, i want more freedome to move around, but total open world? - will not work, because then you have to make MASSIVE maps for any planet you are able to visite

- Hundreds of years after ME3
- Cameo's of applicable characters (in very minor role IE Liara)
- Mention/immersion of Shepard and crew in data-pads, monuments - just a little more than Easter eggs...maybe woven into a conversation here and there throughout the game
- General course of the galaxy ideally founded on events of ME3 but now improved technologies, different hierarchies, different races and NEW conflicts and enemies (both conceptually and in practice) - perhaps neighboring galaxies?
- Play role of an important yet understated, less popular character (vs Shepard who was Spectre/Commander of Normandy/Saviour of Galaxy known to everyone)
- Overal, a fresh IP in the existing universe

Please don't do a prequel, they never seem to do that well. As well as I would rather see the story move forwards not back wards.

Thoughts?
Two words come to mind when reading this; Casual and Console. Yuck. The reason Hitman Absolution sucked is because it had checkpoints only, no possible way to save like in the old games.
Anyway, back on topic. This totally takes away the immsersion. I'll be happy with manual saves and my F5 key.

On ALL points, I couldn't agree more!

Also, if the game does continue off of ME3, and the destroy ending is chosen, somehow incorporate Shepard if he survives.
