I'd say no prequel at all, what's done is done. Leave it in the past and let's move on.  We all pretty much know how it turns out.

-BUT, in any game taking place in the future, I'd like to see the remains of the citadel mission. It should be like a ghost town, a burnt out husk of what it used to be, everything is dead. Since in the destroy ending, most synthetic and reaper tech was destroyed, I'm assuming that would also be the Citadel, the Keepers, etc.  Earth should be destroyed and devoid of life, for all the good of saving it through ME3, the resulting pollution and nuclear destruction throughout the ages, combined with the power grabs, lack of resources, and chaos resulting from an unknown catastrophic event left the planet largely lifeless.  Whatever life exists there now is not something we'd want to be a part of.

It would be an AWESOMELY depressing throwback to the fans, who would know what the location is and was during its hayday. But the actual "characters" let's say, would have no idea what it was.

-And keep humans in it as playable, it'd be nice to chose your race, they're still scattered across the universe, and they make relatable characters.

-I always thought a cool squad member, maybe not main character, would be a former personal bodyguard to the Shadow Broker (or former Shadow Broker).  Like, there could be a blurb that rival factions way in the past splintered, killing former Shadow Broker Liara T'Soni and reconfiguring the infrastructure and power hierarchy of the organization.  I imagine him a human-like assassin.  Perhaps he looks exactly human, but really isn't as he came from an alternate galaxy on a planet that developed much the same way as earth, with some key differences of course.  This character could have had a change of heart working for the SB maybe after having personally killed a child on a particular mission, and then revolting on the Shadow Broker to whom he was supposed to owe allegiance.  He should seem like he doesn't fit the role until the moment where you'd realize, wow, he's good and what he does.  I like when physical appearance and outward personality don't really match the internal character, thought process, and value system of a given character.

-I also think it'd be cool to see human beings 'enslaved' through synthetic technology as like a side note.  Let's say some group finds out that human beings are adapted perfectly for extensive synthetic implants, making them controllable and deadly for various groups, in essence becoming the cheap jack-of-all trades labor of the galaxy.  They'd look half-and-half.  Perhaps this can be linked to whoever the new Shadow Broker is.  Perhaps you stumble upon an old squadmate from the trilogy, human, preserved by the synthetic reconstruction, but remembering nothing of the events of the trilogy.  So his or her personality would be different to say the least.  Maybe you put that character down, maybe it becomes part of your squad.  I don't know, I'm spitballing.  That's probably the only way I'd accept any old characters in a new game really.

1. Conversations that rely more on the main character's opinions, morals, personal history, etc. Less investigating/asking questions or linear responses.
2. More exploration
3. More interaction with the environment, be it something as simple as ordering some hilariously repulsive food at some dive on Omega.
4. More Puzzles, and/or mini-games that require SOME intelligence.
5. Make tactical-play, and issuing orders a feature people actually need to use to survive. It seems in all ME games it's just isn't really needed, even on insanity.
6. Improve the Face Editor.
7. Make a simple body editor, or provide body types for player selection.
8. Give the player other ways of making credits besides just completing the missions.
9. If Multiplayer is to be included, (Which I think you should just scrap completely), include some co-op missions with conversations along the lines of a Flashpoint out of SWTOR.
10. Instead of playing a Soldier of the Alliance, make the main character work for the enemy or make him pirate, or a bounty hunter, or something along those lines.
11. Make the player have to sacrifice and lose the people he loves.
12. Make an ending with numerous variables, like ME2 or Dragonage Origins.
13. Bigger Environments.
14. Explore what the squadmates do with their free time, make them engage in activities besides just standing around or working on "calibrations".
15. dogfights or an occasional ship battle done right would be awesome.
16. Ship customization.
17. Allow the main character to be of a different species if the player chooses.
18. Don't let the main character be able to romance everyone. Some squadmates should have preferences based on species, gender, etc.
19. Make it like real life. That is, the main character can say something off-key or stupid and if he doesn't quickly rebuttal or apologize the romance is blown, or the team loses respect for him.
20. In-fact, there should be stupid responses your player can say from time to time that keeps players from just breezing through the conversation the first time around.
21. Add a pitch editor for the character's voice.
22. Bring back loot just don't make it overkill like part 1.
23. Don't make a prequel.... please!
24. Don't make a million multiplayer characters to choose from. Let players choose a class, a race, and keep/maintain THAT character. Let them create a max of 3 or 5 characters.
25. No linear missions. Too many ME3 missions involved moving straight through a path and killing enemies. Make missions branch and have different paths and different possible ways to complete said mission.
26. Make the love scenes longer and better.
27. Make the romance dialogues lengthier.
28. Make the romance options HARD TO GET. Don't make saying nice things the only thing that wins the girl's/guy's heart. Different romance options should have different approaches that work. That being said, the same approach shouldn't work every time.
29. Let the main character choose his profession, or obtain it later in the game.
30. Make the main character an everyman... Make them have to proof their worth.
31. Apartment on citadel or omega or both.
32. Blur the lines between good and evil.... paragon and renegade... maybe even taking out the meter all together... actually that sounds awesome, do that!
33. Improve melee combat, or add a hand-to-hand fighting system.
34. Add ground vehicles, or battles that require a MAKO or a tank or something like that.
35. Increase the size of some of the battles.
36. Make side-quests LONGER than just ONE mission... Make them span multiple missions.
37. More Mission variety. Make some that require investigating. Make some that require puzzle solving. Make escort missions. Make castle/base defense missions. Make missions where you have to take sides. Make guilds/factions where you have to work your way up. Make an arena or a tournament, etc.
38. Don't let the player always win. Allow the player to get the crap kicked out of him in a fight. Allow the player to get shut-up by an NPC that's smarter. Make the player fail from time to time.

But MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL!

Don't try to appeal to newcomers and the hardcore because ME will lose it's identity in the process... Appeal to the Hardcore, but most importantly make a GREAT FREAKING GAME. Be the next SKYRIM. I hate to use that word here, but Skyrim didn't lose really any of it's hardcore fanbase, and it was good, and it sold ALOT OF GAMES.

Make a good game that appeals to hardcore = Good critic score on Metacritic AND a good user score as well.

^The newcomers only care about Metacritic, is not like they actually demo the games. If its above a 9.0, people will play... and even if they don't they will eventually come around in the series.

EDIT:

39. Don't make certain decisions from ME3 canon or not canon... That would just be SOOOOOOOOOO wrong on so many levels.

having earth destroyed might hurt humanity (at first) but on the long run, it would not matter much IMHO (the government was no longer there, the main military base wasn't either etc. - losing Arcturus Station hurt humanity much much more!))

what i want to say:

humanity has colonies (many of them), some even with a decent population and assuming that all the major races lost much in the reaper war, i would not say that humanity would be that much weaker without having earth (it is our homeworld, but not the most important one anymore!) so why should they in essence become "drifters" (hell, that's TITAN AE all over again...) etc. (more or less replacement quarians?)....i mean, while such a story might be enjoyable, i don't see it for Mass Effect ;)

greetings LAX
ps: wow, next posting (that i have to read in full firstly!)

To Developers it would be nice to hear if ME 4 or what ever you call it. will be on PC.
I have ME1, ME2 and ME3 Collectors Edition.

How about some news for PC players. We are the ones that helped Mass Effects Worlds.

EDIT:

39. Don't make certain decisions from ME3 canon or not canon... That would just be SOOOOOOOOOO wrong on so many levels.

so, i will voice my oppinion on number
at a time:

1. yes and
no - not having certain options because of what or who your character is might
be nice, but it also is kind of bad, because not being able to see the whole
game (not get all options) is not my idea of fun (it is forcing the player to
replay the whole game in order to see how another option would pan out, which
is a no go IMHO - i love replaying, don't get me wrong and something like
origin stories and quests tied to your origin (race in ME) are fine, but not
having certain options in talks etc. is not fine (different approaches might be
nice, like say a biotic making himself "glow" for intimidation, while
another character might draw a firearm, bring up an omni-tool etc.)

2. If it leads
to good finding rare-stuff, extra quests (long ones at that, not "kill
those mercs and phone in doing it") etc. then yes

3. Would be
nice, but doing that takes much time away from important things (unless you tie
it in, like say being poisoned by the barkeep on omega (assassination attept!)
might lead you to a conspiracy (not aimed against humans in general, like it is
shown, but against the main character) or drinking in a bar might get a
quest-giver to approach you etc.)

4. well, i
dislike mandatory thinking games (like it being game over in KOTOR, if you
could not transfer the energy from the computer (the quest was mimicked in ME1
on Peak 15 - but you could omni-gel it if you liked to avoid it, which i liked
very much!))

5. yes and
no - if my companions behave like braindead monkeys (hell i loved using their
powers alongside my own in ME1-3 and sometimes i would have had a hard time
without them) and don't obey my orders (like stay in freaking cover....no,
don't run into the ambus *facepalm*) then no (in addition: i hate being overly
dependent on them - i love doing stuff solo, too (decent AI would be something
i would like (hey EDI - want to take over my companions...no wait, you are one
of them *facepalm* ^^) so that companions do not end up running into the
ambush/line of fire (if there were friendly fire, i would be short a lot of
characters!)

=> so all
in all, no (it makes for bad gameplay being 100% dependent - yes, making it
harder for you, if you manage to have your team knocked out, that is acceptable
- but that is allready there...i mean: if you need biotic-detonations and fast
(many many husks for example) and your team is out, then having to wait for
your CD can kill you!)

6. yes - but
don't overdo it with the slides (to much is bad, too)

7. i would
like that, but it takes time (having the armor fit all sizes etc.) and there is
more important stuff IMHO

8. yes - and
have him get some really decent equipment (even at the start) because it is
ridiculous if you work for special forces (start of ME1 for example) and you
have the worst gear possible (yes there should be better gear, soon, but it
should be better then trash (what in an MMO are white items...meaning: the gear
should be something unique (a set) with half way decent stats, but nothing to
grand either (just: your run of the mill enemy should not have something better
- like say to stay in ME you have Eclipse like stuff and run of the mill enemies
have blood-pack stuff) but if you say kill a leader (the elite version of the
run of the mil enemy) you might find something that is better then what you
have) you might find something better)

9.
Multiplayer? - Not again, Not again :(

10. Not
starting off as a soldier is okay, but starting as a nobody is a no-go IMHO (in
RL most of us are considered nobodies by the higher ups and i don't need want
to be one in a game)

yes,
bounty-hunter, mercenary, spy, militia-leader, veteran (as in ex-soldier that
is no longer in the military), scientist, cop (like Garrus for example) etc.
would be nice backgrounds (soldier should IMHO still be available though)

11. make
that an option - don't force it (unless on a critical mission and then give us
free reign on who to sacrifice (i know some people would like to strap Liara to
the bomb on Virmire for example, not just either Kaidan or Ashley) and don't do
it often (it cheapens it, if every 5 minutes someone dies - the impact of the
VS was that strong was (at least if you are Sheppard) is, that you have
"failed" - you had no other option (yes it was railroaded, because
you could not save both...that cheapens it a little for me...i would have loved
to have other options (maybe having the Normandy do a gun-run on the facility,
with the problem that something could survive (should be a consequence that you
have to deal with, or not if you say risk all and have them bombard it directly
after you leave (running out of the facility on a timer while automated
defenses, geth etc. try to keep you (if they have to die, so shall you) -
risking being killed yourself, too etc...)

=> i just
don't like being forced to certain "inevitable" situations (at least
not many of them...that is why the VS does matter, because it is the only
inevitable companion death in the game (not counting Jenkins)...so use it
(maybe!) but not often!)

12. YES!
YES! YES!

13. yes and
no - not like Skyrim, were you run/ride for "hours" and there is
nothing there (i hate having to go from a to b if it takes hours and nothing
happens on the way (that is like all those almost empty planets in
ME1...boring!))

14. Yes,
that would be nice (like say you can find your sniper doing drills one time,
but another time you find him playing cards, drinking etc. :) (but then there
should be a "sentient" map, that shows were a certain person is, i
hate searching for minutes)

15. YES -
and while you are at it: give us controll (influence, like in ME1 the final
battle - but better, with something like a system map and you positioning ships
like in an RTS (not by directly klicking them, but by seeing which fleet does
what ATM and then deciding to say, send them in etc.) and telling them to
engage, to retreat (to recover their shields), recall fighters (rearm them with
rockets/torpedoes) - send out fighters etc.) thus making space-combat part of
the experience (without making the game into something like wing-commander) and
thus making it count if you have a larger, better fleet (it felt like it didn't
in ME3) - say you don't loose many (or even none!...what can i say, i like my
sunshine and daisies outcomes (i am a sucker for a happy ending) if you play
your "cards" right and say get the Asari to give you the Ascention
(that thing can take on almost anything, if you use it right, not like our
"we take no risks and fight no big-battles" Asari do) or something
comparable (if the next game plays ages after ME3 the Ascension might be a
museum piece)

16. we have
that ^^ (upgrade in ME2) - but yeah, make it "better" give us more
options (i always thought that the normandy would have had more space for
ground attack vehicles and shuttles for example and that there should have been
an option to dock a few fighters externally (our new ship should have a hangar
IMHO))

17. BIG YES!

18. hm...yes
and no (sometimes it really makes sense, but sometimes i dislike it (i would
have loved to be able to go after Samantha Trainor as a male...sorry, but she
is HOT!))

19. yes and
no (why would a character involved in live or death situations do something
braindeadly stupid? - except if he/she is making a joke)

20.
responses without tact, yes (like telling Ashley that you think less of her
because of her religion, which no "sane" character would tell her
out-right IMHO) but braindead ones (like say insulting a Krogan-Battlemaster's
Clan or something, no - unless it is a renegade option (provoking him or her))
no, our character is not a monkey without common sense IMHO

21. might be
nice (resources might be needed otherwise though IMHO)

22. YES -
but not tons of trash-items (hell if we fight tons of mercenaries then we should
IMHO get tons of mercenary-armor and weapons at the end of battle, even if we
don't loot during fighting (why? - in most cases, if you don't blow the
"battlefield" (ship, station, base, planet - whatever) up, i imagine
my character sending his crew to search the dead and bury/cremate them
(firstly: to make money selling of all that stuff, which would explain us
getting better equipment from sellers pretty quickly and secondly: because it
is the right thing to to (just letting them rot - except if you are pressed for
time of course - is just bad (and letting tons of guns, ammo and armor lying
around is bad, too) meaning, everything you don't directly take (by looting) is
carted to your ship at the end of the mission, where you can sell it off (or
store it in your armory...on that note: I want a good damned armory like in
ME2)

23. Agreed
(that would be even more "on rails" as ME3 was and it would be kind
of boring...i mean, something like Star Wars: The Clone Wars might be nice as a
cartoon or as a book, but as a game?...i don't know)

24. Don't
much care (don't want any MP in the first place, i have COD-Survival-Mode for
that!)

25. YES!
Branching and different ways would be something i would like (but don't make us
decide a set-path before the mission like say you decide on stealth and it is
over if you are discovered (like in Dragon Age 2: Mark of the Assassin, where
you could decide weather to fight or to sneak)...if you are discovered
sneaking, then you fight, not start the mission again, same for having multiple
ways in a mission - if you don't like the one you are on, i want to be able to
go back (unless it is shown to me that it is impossible because i have just
blown everything behind me up...doors that i just can't open anymore make me
angry!)...hell i want to be able to explore the whole mission area after i am
done killing things (unless: blown up!) finding things i didn't take
the...modern computers and next-gen-consoles should allow for something like
that IMHO

26. agreed
(and make us able to have multiple of them, not just one before we
"sail" into the lions den - meaning: don't tie the romances to the
main plot)

27. that
might be nice, even more if romance does influence the game (a little - not in
major, gamebreaking ways (as there are people who dislike romances or don't
want them to tie in at all), like an LI wishing you luck at that start of a mission
(multiple ones, if you get to real romance state quickly (which should be an
option, IMHO - at least if you talk to that companion very often, do his or her
side-missions, give him/her important stuff (not meaningless trinkets) like the
Geth-Data for Tali (or in Dragon Age: The sword for Sten!), the Family-Armor
for Wrex (i don't want to romance Wrex, i just use him as an example for
important things for certain characters) etc. or things that fit the companion
like you have a sniper and buy new sniper-rifles (i like that if you get a new
gun in ME2 and 3 is available for all people, without having to purchase more
copies (which is just a money drain IMHO something which I dislike)) and then
assign him/her one of them (before he/she comes into the armory for the next
mission (that's something we are never shown, but it takes place - for us it is
only a screen for choosing loadout, and that is fine IMHO) and just grabs one
(you tell them about the new guns...i mean someone like say Grunt, Wrex or
Zaeed would love to get a new gun IMHO and talk about it)

Add: More
private talks (about the hobbies mentioned before, say you see someone cleaning
a gun - they why is there no option to talk about weapons (?) or you see
someone playing cards - talk about the game etc.)

28. NO -
sorry, but why? (even in RL there is people that are not "hard to
get" - so don't generalize this, make it a case by case thing (meaning:
someone like Ashley (xenophobig and religious) might be cautious about
relationships (and require a long time to get into it), but other characters
(like Dragon Ages flirty elf assassin Zevram) might get into the spirit of
things much faster (and most - even real - people have something that gets to
them, so if you get it right, why not?))

29. you mean
like choosing your class later? - yes and no for me:

do away with
character-classes altogether, make the only important thing about the character
the flag "is/is not biotic" :) (and then don't tie certain actions to
the class, but to the skills a character has (for the "different
approaches"-thing i mentioned above))

30. I still
don't want to play a nobody - i want to start of as someone who might not be
the big master of everything, but i don't want to start of as nothing either (i
liked how they did it in Dragon Age: Origins, where you were a potential at the
start (Duncan is seeing that), not a master but clearly not nothing either
(unless of course: you played either a castless-dwarf or a city-elf)) that's
why i would have liked for mass effect to start of with some kind of origin
story, where you get promoted to N7 because of your background (War Hero, Sole
Survivor and Ruthless are all great things for a special operator IMHO) and
start of by doing a few missions for them (and that gets Nihlus to see you as
something)

31. Why do i
need an Apartment if i get a customizable - if possible player owned (in ME you
didn't really own the ship, in the first game the Alliance owned it, in the
second it was Cerberus's property and in the third you did just hand it over to
the Alliance (for them to rampage around in it...bah i hate
ME3-Normandy...feels cramped, unfinished and looks stupid IMHO and is totally
illogical, because the comm-room could have easily served as war-room etc. :( )
- starship with a big cabin (hell, i would add a pool to my ship anyway as part
of the fitness-center (the crew needs to unwinde, too))..On the other hand a
luxurious place (in addition to the ship) with things like a pool, a lounge
etc. would be nice (it would start out as a small thing and you get upgrades
later), too (even more if you could do "Citadel-Party" more often in
the game (inviting people there and not only companions, but important NPCs for
negotiations and "more")

Note: That's
something i would have liked in ME3 - the option of having less important
people come to the ship (instead of us going to them) - even more if it's in
mid-to-late-game where you are already somthing big/important (a VIP in short)

32. renegade
is not evil (i personally play a Paragade - taking some renegade options (when
i feel Paragon stuff is just bad - like not killing the Mechanic working on the
gunboat in the Archangel mission - or unecessary tedious!) but i don't stomp on
people if i don't have to)

another look
at that system might be a good idea (but i don't have any great ideas on that)

33. yes and
no (don't push me into melee if i don't want to...that's were i loved the
biotic in ME2 - if something comes into melee-range: SHOCKWAVE! - but give us
the option to fight close quarter and even to sneak up to unsuspecting people
and kill them like in say assassin's creed...what i mean, if you don't assault
an enemy base directly or assault something that is in the middle or at least
near a city don't have the NPC's directly assume that we are hostile (thus
making it possible to say take guards out without triggering an alarm
(silenced-weapons/sniper-rifle or melee) and then being able to go in without
them bum-rushing us (real-special-forces style and then once you are in: use
flashbangs etc.)...well at least the option would be nice)

34. yes and
know: give us big ground battles, but don't force us to drive something (make
it optional - most of us will probably do it anyway) - but for planetary
scouting (if you - bioware - manage to make it interesting (unlike the bland
and sterile ME1 planets)) i would want a vehicle :)

=> Add: make it possible to call in airstrikes/orbital-bombardment/artillery-fire etc.
(and give use back the heavy-weapons as an option (you can carry them, but you
don't need to)) and:

Give me controll of say the shuttles weapons when we approach a stronghold (this can be
the counter to sneaking in: make as much "noise" as possible or even
have a second team (lead by a companion!) make a diversion) to soften it up for
going in :)

35. Agreed :) (and by size i mean multiple teams (you play as the other teams-leader in
POV-Shifts) with us having a say in how we want it handled (tie that to call in
airstrikes, bombardment, artillery etc.))

36. yes,
give us quest-archs that are long and interect with the main-quest (and other
archs - yes, complicated, but IMHO worth it, if you really make a MASTERPIECE!)

37. yes (not
for the puzzle-stuff - investigating yes, but puzzles?)

Add: Don't
make us join a Faction (thus making other factions hostile or something - at
least if we don't want to), just let us have to work on relations to certain
parties :) (like in Fallout: New Vegas)

38. Loosing
a fight, yes, why not (unless it is against the main enemy - because then you
are dead!) - it might even be good sometimes

As for
appealing to new fans:

Don't try to
hard (ME3, i am looking at you and that auto-dialogue and the mode you almost
had no dialogue!) and keep in mind:

Your core
fans will stay loyal, if you stay true to your roots (and that is more
important then dragging in new people IMHO - or as some might say: make 2 games
for loyal fans then 10 for the masses (because they might not buy your game
because say the new COD comes out at the same time, real fans will still buy
(and might not even be interested in COD-Style games appealing to the masses)!)

hm....

39. is
tough!

as without a
canon, there is no going forward :( - that's one of my main problems:

how do you
go forward after the dismal ME3? - do you:

1. make one
choice canon?

2. do you
make the game so much time after the game that it does not matter anyway (and
people have forgotten)

3. do you
scrap (retcon it think they call it nowadays) the endings?

 I for one
would go with "Toss the endings" (Retcon!) but that is just me :)
(or: Destroy and Catalyst lied (Geth are OK))

Greetings LAX
ps: i like your posting: you thought long and hard about all that, and while i don't agree with everything, i like your general thoughts!

=> copy/paste from word screws up my formating :( - well, i corrected the major things, enjoy :)

On the subject of companion AI, they need a proper pathing system relating to where the enemy is located. If i press shift and carefully order one of them to position themselves somewhere, i do not want them to take the path leading into an atlas ready to unload fire onto them if they can avoid it by taking another fully accesible route in the same very room.

On the subject of insanity difficulty, ME2 is harder because Shepard is less powerful, combine the protagonist with being quite weak, and incorporate an AI for enemy forces that actively tries to flank you and try to flush you out of cover. Kind of like the cerberus grenades did.

I like the ME2 approach to insanity better then what was done in ME3 despite the better AI. If im able to toss down a singularity and completely neutralise a husk ambush followed up by dual throw into a biotic explosion within seconds on the highest difficulty in the game something is wrong, Enemies felt too weak in most encounters even if the incoming damage where fairly high.

Allowing the player to lose encounters only adds to the game experience, as long as the one they are losing to is well written and actually feels like a worthy opponent, comparing Saren to Kai Leng in ME3 here, i do not want that to happen in the very final battle of the game though leading up to the main playable character's demise if possible though.

From ME2 onwards I have found the games a bit repetitive. ME2 seemed like, recruit, loyalty, recruit, loyalty... And both ME2 & ME3 I always feel after each mission I need to go around everywhere to check for new sidequests, unique dialogue. And if you miss some unique dialog you may miss some story, romance etc, so I always feel like I have to do a boring half hour running around through loads of loading screens when I may be more in the mood for action but don't want to find out I missed anything. Love the games overall but other RPG games don't seem to make me feel like I am forced into doing this.

I don't know how open people are to playing the Mass Effect games through the eyes of someone other than Shepard, but I've always liked to play Saren's side of this whole story. I'd love to see his origins into the Turian military, his eventual induction into the Spectres, and exactly what made him so convinced that helping the Reapers would mean the salvation of organics.

Can we go on to the Extranet? Mentioned in all 3 games, but we never see it. Would replace some of the need for the Codex if not all of it imo.

I think Hudson's idea of playing a C-Sec officer/investigator on the Citadel is a fantastic idea. I've had similar ideas myself:

1. DLC that allows you to create a totally different character from the main story protagonist. Perhaps this is how a C-Sec adventure could be done? Better yet, when the DLC is completed, the new character can be added to the squad of the main protagonist.

2. Character creation. If the option is given to create custom characters again, do not underestimate how important customization is to many players. How about a set of ethnic-based presets of the same quality as Sheploo for those that want to play something more like themselves but don't want to create something from scratch?

3. Character interaction. I'd like to see an expansion of dialog with crew members not based solely on completing and advancing through main missions. If there are even some minor assignments to do, I think this should trigger expanded dialog options as well.

4. Neutrality. While I prefer Paragon, I think there should be perks to being smart about playing a neutral character. Maybe adding something like "compromise" right in between charm and intimidate options. After all, if we go by design, spacer/war hero is for pure paragons, earthborn/ruthless is for pure renegades while colonist/sole survivor really makes more sense for neutral characters. I think these should have more options.

A bolt on dlc along the lines of pinicle station in 1 for ME3 i would love for the detective thing, i would honestly buy it too, but for the next game, i couldnt go for it personally. the rest i agree with, i wouldnt mind the lift type stuff we had in ME1, where we take squad mates with us all the time, they start up convs on there own and discuss things between each other, even have the option to click on crew when we wish to get mini convs with them.

A new Mass Effect trilogy. My thoughts...

I have posted this on my personal gaming tumblelog (which I won't link gratuituously) but I'm posting it here in the hopes that BioWare is still checking this thread...

Let’s face it, Shepard is Mass Effect’s Captain Kirk and always will be. Still, while we wait for the return of the Commander in Mass Effect 7 (ETA 2017?) we might as well accept the fact that there’s a wide  universe out there to explore. With that in mind, and regarding the next chapter in the series, here are my thoughts…

It’s important that we see how the galaxy moved on after the Reaper War. In my opinion BioWare must deal with the consequences of its own choices and establish a common background of some sort.

Mass Effect Next should play out several decades (or even a couple of centuries) after the Reaper War. References to the past should be minimal but I believe the most interesting setting would be an extension of the Destroy ending (not that it should ever be referenced that way). Keep in mind that only Shepard knew what happened inside the Citadel chamber in those final moments. As far as the galaxy knows, there were no alternate options.

I believe that the “destroy” scenario is the most appealing, not for being a personal favorite, but because it has interesting implications.

It would be nice to see a future where the Relay network is still being reassembled. That implies that not the entire galaxy is open for exploration right from the start.

Also, in the first trilogy, the Relays were open for everyone. But now it is being rebuilt as a joint effort of the most technologically advanced species - Asari, Turians, Salarian and Humans. So the Alliance and the New Council have control of the rebuilt Relay network.

What I’m saying is that this is a new, less free universe. Whoever has control of the Relays controls the Galaxy. And there are great tensions now, in the aftermath of the Reaper War, with poverty and rebellion throughout the galaxy. So only “Alliance approved” ships (military and civilian) are allowed to travel through the Relays. But there are rogues and mercenaries out there trying to find a way to avert the system.

The Enemy? First, it would be interesting if in this new reality the Alliance is both good and bad. The Alliance is making an effort to maintain peace in the galaxy and control the tensions. But it is also an absolute power that wants to maintain control of the galaxy, even if that means reducing liberties among “non-Council” species.

Also, I think it would be interesting if the greatest enemy is human. Cerberus being reconstructed, but now as an even darker organization that actually controls the Human councilors of the Alliance. Humans are the bad guys now.

The story should depart from “The Reapers” but it would be interesting to establish some connections with the original trilogy. One of the concepts that was never addressed was the idea of a Dark Citadel - something that was mentioned by a few people on the BSN forums, especially during ME2. The Dark Citadel is the Relay on Dark Space, the point of origin of the Reapers. As we know, the link between the Citadel and the Dark Space Relay was disconnected by the Protheans. That’s why Sovereign needed Saren, to reestablish that link – which he
failed, as we know, because of Shepard.

But there is still “something" out there. What if this new Cerberus, avid for power, made a clandestine jump to the Dark Citadel and found an ancient source of power that gives it the ability of indoctrination. The possibilities are endless.

The hero?

Lots of people are asking for an “origins” story, where you can choose the race. I think that’s very complicated in terms of resources - multiple VA’s, etc.

So I would go for a human character, but I also think the Mass Effect universe is begging for a "rogueish" kind of character, the Han Solo type. So this time we would have an anti-hero - the kind of gal (or guy) that is a reluctant hero but ends up doing what’s necessary for the greater good.

Still, despite featuring a new main character, it would be fundamental to maintain certain connections with the past. Maintaining a few “cameos” with popular characters - of species that have a longer lifespan. It would be great to meet Liara or Garrus in that future. And, regarding the fact that they could be “killed” in ME3, I don’t think that would be a problem. First, it’s probably something that happened for a minority of players (that didn’t invest in EMS). Also, that’s the kind of thing that a few lines of dialogue can fix.

Hero: I heard you died during the Reaper War.
Garrus (older): I heard that too. I lost many friends during the war, so I decided to lay low for a while.
Hero: Why are you here, then?
Garrus: Well… let’s just say you remind me of someone…

Ok I'm new to the forums but from what i gather people seem undecided on weather they'd like the next game set in the past or present. Why not have it set during the same time? It's a big universe and there will be plenty of other stories to tell. This is my idea, please tell me if someone else has already posted something along this line.

CharacterYou’re an agent for the shadow broker, playable races (male and female) Asari, Human, Turian, Baterian.
SettingStarts off during the events of mass effect one and carries into the events of mass effect 2.You and your team are given missions by the shadow broker to obtain useful info that could be valuable to someone or that a client has requested. Also to eliminate targets to gain intel or capture targets for interrogation to obtain intel. Some missions you must kill or capture, others you can choose and the choices to kill or capture certain people will change parts of the story later on. Obviously there will be many other choices just like any other RPG, e.g different ways to approach the mission (gather intel on defenses etc or go in guns blazing, this could result in team deaths or something else) You operate out of a broker hideout on omega that is used by other agents as well.

The game starts off with you being briefed on a mission to capture a highly valuable target; the mission goes well but on the transport back to omega you’re attacked by pirates. You repel the attack but your prisoner is killed. However you manage to take two of the pirates prisoner, one of which turns out to be Jack (but the player character doesn’t know). You report back to the shadow broker who is understandably angry at the failure but is then impressed that you managed to capture an even more valuable person since he knows who Jack is and about her Cerberus past. Jack cuts a deal with the shadow broker, he doesn’t turn her over to the illusive man and she will join your team. You work with Jack for a while on a few missions. While on a mission to capture a target you learn that a drell assassin is also after your target but intends to kill them. You send Jack to secure an escape vehicle since you expect a big fight and will need to get away quickly. You reach the target to find them dead and a drell (Thane) fleeing the area. Jack gives chase in a skycar but crashes (maybe knocked unconscious) and is then arrested (sorry I don’t know if it is mentioned how jack is captured in ME2, if it is then give feedback) and sent to prison. You and what is left of your team is able to recover some data from the targets omni tool or data pad so the mission is not a complete failure.

Next comes the news of shepards death and the destruction of the Normandy. You are ordered to join up with another broker team to retrieve shepards body to sell to the collectors; but are warned that Cerberus is also after it. This may go on for a couple of missions, gathering classified alliance intel on the normandy’s patrol route and fighting with Cerberus etc. Ultimately you fail due to bad calls made by the leader of the other broker team which gets them killed. The character is badly wounded and taken to a nearby clinic on omega and treated by Mordin Solus. (This is where things start to sound like assassins creed one sorry) Due to your recent failures the broker starts giving you less high priority missions until you redeem yourself and prove to be reliable again. At some point you might work with Zaeed? Maybe one of the missions he mentioned from his past? Also when Archangel sets up shop on omega you might work with him and his crew to take down a gangs second in command? (Didn’t one of the gang leaders mention Archangel killed his brother? Maybe that mission you tag along to get intel on the gangs activities?) The character also has a couple of run ins with Aria being that you operate out of omega. I think it would also be cool if there was a conversation you could overhear in the hideout between one of the broker agents and a woman on his omni tool. This woman would be seeking information about someone that could help her disappear from omega, turns out it’s Nyreen Kandros.

Haven’t worked out the end or who the primary villain (if there is just one) is that will be dodging you for maybe the second half of the game. But it should finish with some final resolution to it. In the final cutscene the character receives a call from another broker agent saying the brokers ship is under attack. But then a call from the broker (who is now Liara) saying everything is under control and asking for a report from all teams (this will use the same dialogue from Liara at the end of the shadow broker dlc from ME2).

Make the next mass effect more open, kinda like skyrim, but not to much.
-Give us the chance to buy ships and costumize it
-Implement the squad member recruting alla mass effect 2
-Let us costumize and play as our squad members
-implement Campagne co-op
-give us more diversity in combat ( malee specialization, wepon or powers)
-base the game mostly on ME3 mechanics ( dont make it a strategy rpg like dragon age)

Please don't implement co-op in our singleplayer campaign. I don't want to miss out on the full Mass Effect experience just because I don't have a buddy to play Mass Effect with at 3am. Or a buddy to play Mass Effect with at all.

Hmm, not bad at all, agent for the ShadowBroker would definitely be an interesting perspective on the Mass Effect universe. I feel like your idea lacks continuity though, like it's a lot of random missions and subplots that fans will recognize as connected to events from the original trilogy, as oppose to a primary plot the builds to a climax and conclusion.

If I may ask, what is the log line of your story? That is to say, what is the primary plot-line in twenty words or less?

I ask because I feel like it's something the writers of ME3 failed to use. It's obvious to anyone who played the game that it's primary plot is: "Shepard unites the galaxy to defeat the Reapers." That's what we spend 80-90% of the game doing. Unfortunately, any ending where that effort has no bearing whatsoever on the outcome was guaranteed to fall flat. I think that that, far more than simply "the ending", is the real reason so many people were disappointed by ME3.

The things I want to see in the new game?

How about making sure we have to make choices again, ones that effect the game not at the ending but through out it.

Use all that hard work you have done on the ME 3 multiplayer and cross it over to the single player game, so if I want to be say a N7 Fury I can be, or a Shadow. I know we are not soldiers this time so simply remove the N7 designation and call it a Fury or shadow.

Also weapon-wise I want access to the Phantom gauntlet weapon, and not just for 5 minutes at the end of the game, but fairly soon near the beginning. And the sword. And an enhanced melee with more control over your direction when in combat.

Less an action game and more an RPG like ME 1.

And finally do better with the romance scenes like in ME 1 please. We are all adults here and even if there are not adults here, the rating is Mature meaning mom and dad approved of the game, it is not your job to babysit junior, its your job to produce a RPG for adults like you did in ME 1.

When you go into the next generation of engine remember many of us are not going to be finacially able to purchase the top line computer to play your game. Remember us people who work for a living and still play your on a computer we can afford.

Thanks

My favorite mass effect is Mass Effect 1 for many reasons and i feel like it was the best one but not the best one in every area of the game and there were things in both mass effect 2 and 3 that i liked that 1 didn't  have and needed so in my opinion take mass effect 1 and add the best things of ME 2 and 3 had to offer that 1 didnt have or needed and youll have the best Mass Effect game to date. More is always better and make it less linear and more open world like in mass effect 1 and put the original looting system of 1back in, the customization of yours and your squadmates weapons and armor, needing to acquire licenses to obtain newer weapons, armor, and equipment, the option to pick what omni tool or bio amp to use, being able to choose your squadmates armor, being able to explore planets by vehicle or foot, and more but these are just some of the simple great little things about mass effect 1 that was lost in 2 and 3 and needs to come back.

Now the story how about starting the next mass effect years after the reaper invasion and depending on how many years after bioware could decide on Shepard or any of the crew coming back and even add new characters too. This time around though let players choose between more then just male or female Shepard and maybe give us more then just one character to choose from instead just like bioware did in dragon age orgins with the player being able to choose human , elf, or dwarf and depending on what you choose each character had its own story one way or another with only some parts of the story being alike. Now if they also wanted they could include a son or daughter Shepard because I do recall in certain romances like the Liara romance you guys do have a romantic scene a the very end of mass effect 3 before the ending so it is possiable to somehow creat a mass effect with a son or daughter Shepard if bioware wanted.

Now about enemies and conflict how about bioware introducing some new species and good or bad don't matter and how about the next mass effect be about conflict with the yahg species and planet since they are smart enough to be a threat as we saw with the shadow broker in mass effect 2. The yahg would be a perfect threat and enemy and still fit within the lore of mass effect. Plus bioware can bring in new species this way maybe make a new friendly species and make one bad species to back the yahg in this new conflict and battle. Also this may be the bigger threat and main story but you still have old enemies and threats to deal with on the side while dealing with the bigger threat and conflict with the yahg and whatever other species is backing them.

This maybe a great idea but also I wish they somehow brought back the protheans thought cloning of Jarvik or tank breeding like they did and do with the krogan with Grunt being an example. I love Javik and think the protheans coming back would great for mass effect and very possiable. Btw I love coop and believe mass effect has done well with its coop multiplayer and should stick with it but also give single player a coop mode. Since it would be great to allow a friend to take control of one of my squadmates while me the host controls the story and makes the choices since I'm the main character. A coop mode can easily be done this way and work just fine right away. Now there is mor that can be done with coop bu it would take longer and require more changes then just letting players control and choosing from one of the hosts squadmates.

If possiable it would be awesome to have a mass effect game where you can go and recruit other real world players to join you and be your squadmates to take on missions and even make your own decisions like leaving, following an order or decision, or even betraying the other player during a mission but that would be one huge game and don't even know if it can be done without becoming an MMO which I don't like the current style of MMO games and prefer normal games and multiplayer over an MMO .

Well like I said I haven't thought up who would be the villain yet so the story would obviously revolve around stopping them. I just thought it would be really cool to play as a character who has no association with shepard but whose story sort of intertwines with shepards and shepards crew without either character realizing it.

I think in the first act it would be missions relating to one client that has requested intel on something (any thoughts?) act one would end with jacks arrest.

Act two would be all about retriving shepards body and end with the character being wounded and patched up by mordin. But i changed my mind about the other broker team that you work with for this act. The leader of the other team betrays you to cerberus and you barely manage to escape (which is why you get wounded)
The character then retires from working for the shadow broker and the game then cuts to 18 months later when the character is contacted by the shadow broker. The agent that betrayed you has resurfaced after disappearing and the shadow broker wants you to get revenge and take him down, he is now a high level cerberus officer running his own cell.

Act three would be about bringing him down and stopping his operations.
Thoughts?

Character: You’re an agent for the shadow broker, playable races (male and female) Asari, Human, Turian, Baterian.
Setting
Starts off during the events of mass effect one and carries into the events of mass effect 2.
You and your team are given missions by the shadow broker to obtain useful info that could be valuable to someone or that a client has requested. Also to eliminate targets to gain intel or capture targets for interrogation to obtain intel. Some missions you must kill or capture others you can choose and the choices to kill or capture certain people will change parts of the story later on. Some of these will be optional, especially later in the game when you have other goals. They will be similar to the N7 missions in ME3 but longer and have more incentive to do them. The outcome of some of the choices you make and which of these missions you decide to do in act 1&2 will be shown in the side missions and main story missions of act 3.
Obviously there will be many other choices just like any other RPG, e.g different ways to approach the mission (gather intel on defences etc or go in guns blazing, this could result in team deaths or something else) You operate out of a broker hideout on omega that is used by other agents as well.

You and what is left of your team is able to recover some data from the targets omni tool or data pad so the mission is not a complete failure.
Act 2
Next comes the news of shepards death and the destruction of the Normandy. You are ordered to join up with another broker team to retrieve shepards body to sell to the collectors; but are warned that Cerberus is also after it. This may go on for a couple of missions, gathering classified alliance intel on the normandy’s patrol route and fighting with Cerberus. The character is then betrayed by the other teams lead agent who turns out to be working for Cerberus, he executes his own squad and the character’s squad barely escapes. The character is badly wounded and taken to a nearby clinic on omega and treated by Mordin Solus. The character retires from being an agent and your squad breaks up and goes their separate ways. This whole act will tie into the comics about Liara trying to recover shepards body but from the shadow broker agents point of view.
Act 3
18 months after retirement the character is contacted by the shadow broker. The agent that betrayed you has resurfaced after their disappearance at the end of act 2. He is now a high level Cerberus officer running his own cell. The broker wants you to reassemble your team and go after him and his operation for revenge.
Two of your former squad mates have already agreed to re-join you (so that you have a full squad). The others are optional on whether or not you want to recruit them back. Each squad mate has also learned a new unique power or ability in the last 18 months.
You learn one of your former squad mates is still on omega and working for a vigilante named Archangel. You track him down but he tells you he can’t leave, at least until they’re finished with their current mission. You help Archangel and his team take down a gang leaders brother/second in command afterwards he agrees to join you again. The rest of your squad will either have commitments they must see through before they can join you again and you will help them with this. One will either join or decline based on a characters choice earlier in the game. At some point you might work with Zaeed? Maybe one of the missions he mentioned from his past? The character also has a couple of run ins with Aria being that you operate out of omega. I think it would also be cool if there was a conversation you could overhear in the hideout between one of the broker agents and a woman on his omni tool. This woman would be seeking information about someone that could help her disappear from omega, turns out it’s Nyreen Kandros. Haven’t worked out any more specifics for missions but it will end with you achieving your goal of killing the traitor and destroying his Cerberus operation. The outcome of the bigger choices will be shown in the ending (obviously). In the final cutscene the character receives a call from another broker agent saying the brokers ship is under attack. But then a call from the broker (who is now Liara) saying everything is under control and asking for a report from all teams (this will use the same dialogue from Liara at the end of the shadow broker dlc from ME2).

Thoughts?

Lol! That was rather more than 20 words or less! I hate to say this, but the concept still sounds more like an opportunity for cameos with old characters, than its own set story arc. Cameos are great and all, but what matters is the character that we're playing.

One thing I really like, is the conflict between the Shadow Broker and Cerberus. This could be central to your story line. In this scenario it might actually be better if the protagonist had a measure of independence from either group. A highly respected/feared mercenary with his/her own ship/crew for example would be awesome! The character might frequently contract with the Shadow Broker, or even Cerberus. These two organizations would be neither friend nor foe with both coming off as villainous at times. The character might even have to gain, influence with both to unlock new quests, gear, characters etc. The game's conclusion might even come down to siding with one or the other or neither.

So far it seems like the best candidate for your primary antagonist is the leader of the other team. I feel like you should expand his role across all three acts, even if you don't initially reveal his identity. So how about this: The leader of the other team could be a certain yahg bent on taking over the Shadow Broker network? And we already know he betrayed the original Shadow Broker. The only problem with this is that the Protagonist wouldn't be able to defeat him, as that story has already been told in LotSB.

Perhaps, what your idea really needs is a more internal conflict with the main character. That would be a new direction for BioWare and Mass Effect, which might be just what they need. The character may be struggling to overcome some major handicap or hardship, searching for something, or on the run from something. The resolution of this conflict would actually form the climax, with the "Agent of the Shadow Broker" concept simply giving the main conflict a broader context.

In any case, I think you've definitely got the seeds of something really exciting here. Now it needs a lot of good old fashion slaving over a hot keyboard! Keep at it; even if BioWare goes in a different direction it still has the makings of a great fan-fiction.

P.S. I'd also include male Salarians, Krogan and male and female Quarians as main character possibilities. People like those races too and the Shadow Broker doesn't discriminate!
