That's simply not true.

It is very true.  That is why games are usually not praised for their stories being told, but what is build around it.

The reason why most games don't have good stories is because most fiction, period, doesn't have good stories.

LOL uh right, that's why the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, the Bible, etc. and all the other most popular books ever written are fiction.

Both mediums have their advantages and disadvantages. Movies have some serious advantages I really can't see games ever touching.

Also, the biggest advantages of video games probably isn't the one you think it is.

Real life romances?  Cause I can't get that ass.

I'm sure the King of The Wild Hunt can get any ass he wants.

We have been here before.

Do I need to point out the tremendously clumsy and foolish reasoning in saying "Several works of fiction are good, therefore most works of fiction are good"?

As though such an extrapolation on what I said is not equally clumsy and foolish?

Look, I don't want to argue about this on a thread for ME4 suggestions.  There is no reason that games can't be 'based on real events' are written around 'subtle conflict' etc.  Like I said games have much untapped storytelling potential.

Cheers

You're wrong. There's a great deal of reason. And I don't recall anything being said about 'real events' either way.

No, you're wrong. It can be done. More importantly, it will be done sooner or later.

It won't. Tell me, do you have an explanation for why such a thing has been overlooked when there's clearly a great demand for it?

Is it the fantasy of publishers and developers being clueless and only caring about Call of Duty?

Is this some sort of revolutionary point for people? Most fiction is not good fiction. Most stories are not good stories. Most TV is not good TV. Most books are not good books. And most video games stories are not particularly good video game stories.

I think I understand what you're trying to express - that you believe you have to search for the great type of fiction, like hidden gems? Like most subjectively good music is found in the underground and or isn't known, type deal?

It will. The video game industry has been growing and attracting bigger names (for both VAs and writers). It's inevitable, Davey. And they're not clueless. Well, most of them aren't.

Uh, no. What I'm expressing is that assuming that the reason most video stories are mediocre at best is because developers are somehow too immature or stupid to look past Call of Duty is foolish.

I believe that Killzone: Shadow Fall demonstated what a next-gen game should be pretty well. I think NME should inherit some features from the game. Personally, I'm against open worlds or explorations of any kind. Massive dynamic backgrounds can make the world really vast and beautiful, even through you "can't go there" (most of the times), and actual gameplay occurs (mostly) in quite small environments.

Please, do not make open worlds, explorations, side quests, credits hidden in some trash cans, etc. Concentrate on the story and on the visual part of the game.

Many RPG elements could be sacrificed in order to make the story's execution much better. It doesn't need too many interactive dialogues or overcomplicated character development system. Interesting gameplay can be achieved without turning the game into EvE Online. And reduced quantity of interactive dialogues will allow to achieve much better quality of all remaining dialogues.

But there are only like what, two or three games that follow the COD trend, so that would be irrelevant - there are a ton of games that do their own thing, especially on the indie side.

Simpler than that I feel. Most stories don't form to his ideals for fiction therefore they're not good stories.

You gents keep this up and I'll need a new liver by the end of the week.
