I have to ask, why do they need to go to another galaxy? The ark would not need to travel to the next galaxy, all they would need to do is leave the galaxy and hide in dark space. The ark could go into “stand-by mode” for several hundred years then come back after the Reapers have left and prepare for the next Reaper invasion.

Another totally plausible idea. Either way, it would give Bioware an out for not having to make one of the endings cannon, and leave a lot of people NOT ticked off.

*doing this in character just for the heck of it* This one is guessing no other race has tried this before (with the Reapers undoubtedly stopping them otherwise we wouldn't have the trilogy's events) because the Reapers attacked the Citadel before anyone could devise such an ark plan and build it? This one is not trying to rain on your parade (in fact, this one absolutely love this idea that has been going around), but this one does wonder...

That was good. Javik was the leader of a planet based “ark” but it was given away by indoctrinated agents. The main problem with the ark returning to this galaxy is you will have to still deal with one of the ending, even after several hundred years. Though if the Reapers win is made canon that would be interesting.
But for me I’m firmly in the “canonise the destroy ending” camp.

I think they should just write the story they want, then find ways to tie each of the endings and the various story arks to it, if they don't get lazy with it, it could work.

Honestly I do not think it is feasible. I wrote this earlier to explain my reasons.

To go forward the trilogy has to be canonised. If they try to make a game with all of your choices from ME 1 to 3 you would have a massive game that would only last a few hours. Though some people will hate the idea because “that’s not how I played it”, but establishing cannon does not in any way diminish a person’s own play though, other games have done it and it has not hurt their franchises.

First of all the three endings are so wildly different that it would make the next game impractical.
Next, Citadel space and explored space is less than 1% of the galaxy and the Reapers are galaxy wide harvesting advanced races that the Citadel races would never have even heard of. If the control and synthesis ending are used that would open up the whole galaxy but if the destroy ending is used that would still leave 99% of the galaxy unknown (and leave 99% of a galaxy to explore).

Then there is the whole Krogan genophage thing. If the genophage is cured then there will be a population explosion of Korgan (even if they are using birth control, Korgan condoms the next growth industry), the ramifications of that will depend on who is in charge of the Korgan. Either Wrex is in charge and he is keeping their destructive impulses in check or Wreav is in charge and a new Korgan rebellion is on the cards.

Those choices are too big to ignore, some can be ignored but not them.

in this context, I'd say your form is fine.
now, I was thinking more along the lines of kotor to kotor II, write what you want, then add a few extra lines of dialogue to explain why the krogan are a threat if you didn't cure the genophage, and let the bomb go off on the krogan homeworld (I'm nowhere near awake enough to try to spell it).

So this one sees... I don't really care about canonizing endings or playing as a human or 'we already know what's going to happen' when talking about a prequel, I just want a good story and game... though preferably one that's canon. I just fear a lot of fans' hate for some of these things will have steered Bioware into making a certain kind of game, as to not lose 90% of the fanbase (though it could just be a hate-hate-hate minority being very vocal)

The love scenes in ME1 were much better done then "the with the clothes on" scenes in ME2 & 3. Now I am not asking for The Witcher 2 like scenes though they mostly tasteful and humorous, and defiantly nothing like the Team America scene that was funny at first but then just got creepy (I’m not going to link it). All I am asking for is a return to ME1 favour.

Also why do we have to a love interest? Why can we not play a James (Jane) T Kirk type of character who likes to sample all the universe has to offer?

I think most of the fanbase either liked the ending/EC or already moved on from the ending hate thing.
By the way, I hope bioware do a mix between Control and Destroy to create a canon ending in case the next Mass Effect takes place on the future.

I couldn't even begin to make sense of how to carry on with the Mass Effect story into a future plotline. The possibilities are immense with some options (3 separate games in one relying on the three endings of ME3) being very dubious. In any event, I'll just relegate myself to some gameplay mechanics. I will try to keep this as short as possible. Since ME2 there was an upheaval of core mechanics set in place by ME1. ME1 felt much more like a true action rpg than 2 or 3. Every enemy you took down netted you credits, XP and dropped loot into your inventory. With every enmey that fell at your boots, you (at least I) felt your character progress a bit more. You grew stronger and deadlier with each kill. When ME2 hit the scene, this feature was completely removed and the game began to feel like less of an rpg. Though I love each entry in the series, I believe that this was one of the mose egregious crimes that ME2 committed.

ME2 also drastically reduced the amount of talents each class had available to it, turned ammo mods into powers and limited players' weapon choices depending on what class they chose (though ME3 remedied this last one to an extent). With the Talent system in ME1, you truly had to weigh where your points were being spent due to the numerous talents made available. Many were specific in nature and you had to decide if you would bother spending points there at all or just forgo it and beef up a couple other talents you loved. ME2 streamlined this process by combining all passives into one talent which some saw as a good thing, however I did not. There need be no thought put into choosing passive talents until you evolve it. I will admit that the idea of evolutions was great but only for acivated powers. For example; choosing between Heavy Incinerate and Incineration Blast. Ammo powers instead of ammo mods was just silly to me. It made very little sense that each class was relegated to specific ammo powers rather than the ability to purchase any ammo mod he/she wished to fit a particular playstyle. It was as if the developers needed a way to pad the talents since so many were removed. I guess I don't really have to go into the weapon system as ME3 added the weight mechanic to fix what ME2 screwed up so badly.

Also; put legitimate space exploration back in the game. Completely removing it rather than fixing the issues with planet exploration in ME1j ust rubbed me the wrong way. I know that time is always a factor when making a product so things don't survive the cutting room floor but a few of these the things I mentioned seemed like more of a way to make the game appeal to a broader audience rather than being victims of time constraints.

TL;DR version: Put the RPG back in Action RPG.

Well if the new game is going to be after the trilogy I don't understand how their will be any conflict unless its set after the destroy ending. The paragon ending basically gives Shepard control of the reapers, so that's something to add to the alliance war asset section  :o and the neutral ending makes everything work together so no conflict.

Regarding multiplayer I never cared for it. Personally it felt like a horde mode from gears of war with a mass effect twist. I'd rather see more story and single player side missions and activities that add to the immersion than another multiplayer. For example the citadel dlc's arena, Stuff like that just adds more to the experience, sure it doesn't push the story further but it gives us more stuff to do and enjoy. Assuming the next ME is going to be on next gen maybe we could get some larger environments to explore, maybe instead of just sitting at a loading screen add a new way to travel.

I'd like to suggest free roam, something about it just brings a game to life. especially when accompanied by random scenarios throughout the universe. Sounds like a little to much to ask for though :D

Well one of the main conflicts being discussed is if there should be a sole canon ending for the next game to reference from. In addition, the Extended Cut DLC added an option to not use the Crucible at all wherein the Reapers take over the Galaxy just as they have been doing for countless cycles. The conflict stems from a writing standpoint of where to continue the universe from.

I usually choose the Destroy option myself, it seems the most logical. It's what Shepard has been trying to achieve since the beginning. But, I have a problem with that ending. EDI and the Geth. EDI is such a great character I'd like to see her return in some form. Before Legion, I could of cared less about the Geth, but he basically humanized them to the point, where I would like to see them return.

Oh and no more auto responses in conversations. I felt like my Shepard was being hijacked during the conversations in most of ME3. It started in ME2 but was completely out of hand by the time ME3 hit.

For me it would depend on the Shepard.

A paragon Shepard would choose the lesser of the evils which is destroy. Yes it would mean that EDI and the Geth would die but control would take away the different races free will and be governed by the peace keeping Reapers and synthesis would fundamentally change everyone’s DNA (if that could be even done) and turn everyone (including synthetics) into organic/synthetic hybrids and when you really think about we are already organic machines run by electrical signals. So what is actually synthesis going to be? And I think a paragon Shepard would have ethical reservations about that.

On the other hand a renegade Shepard may think f**k it I’m going to die anyway so I may as well live on as the new Catalyst and rule the galaxy.

I'd like it to be in the future. Anything in the past would lack choice as we already know what will happen. There could be a problem with a future storyline incorporating what the choice was at the end of the 3rd Mass Effect. But, at the same time I feel an imported save would change a small aspect of how the game opening is and could change a few details. This would be great as many of us have saves from the different playthroughs and end choices we made opening up already new view points for the 4th game. Whether you chose Synthesis, Destroy, or Control, the galaxy rebuild everything and are united. The Geth may not be around or everybody is a organic/synthetic being but this seems insignificant as to what a larger plot could be. The idea of having the plot take place in another galaxy would be cool except we want to see more Asari, Turian, Krogan, etc characters. If it is very far into the future then they probably will have travelled to other galaxies by then. Having the races already united to face whatever the new foe is would be great. I'm just excited there will be more Mass Effect.

We could have a now truly united union of different species creating a very different dynamic than the 'we struggle together' of the first trilogy. Having a multi-species team becomes natural... that would be interesting. And frustrating as I am, I immediately think: how can we ruin this? Well for example, with an enemy that affects species differently, like the plague on Omega in ME2. Just my two cents^^ Like how the ideas evolve.

I’ve an idea for a new adversary. In another thread (New First Contact/s) I suggested that when the Reapers came they would have activated all the dormant relays to harvested all the advanced races. So it is also quite likely that refugees from those races may have used the newly activated relays to flee from the Reapers and that some may have come to Citadel space and when the relays were broken during the ending (please let destroy be cannon) there could be several new races stranded in or around Citadel space. These could range from a single ship, an “Ark” or to a Quarain style exodus that could be peaceful or hostile.

The Reaper plans centred on the Citadel, so the Citadel races may have taken the brunt of the Reaper attack. Also who is to say that some other race was not advanced enough to give the Reapers a kicking.

Now this race may not have been able to beat the combined Reaper threat but they are strong enough that they could beat off an invasion on the same magnitude that was sent against Palaven or Earth. So the remaining Reapers of that invasion retreat through a previously inactive main relay (one of the long range ones that only go to one destination as opposed to a short range secondary relay that goes to multiple destinations) to somewhere in the Terminus Systems. That race gathers an armada to go through the relay to find the Reapers home world and finish the job. Not long after they come through the relays all break, no Reaper home world to destroy and no way home until the relays are fixed.

But these aliens are not warm and cuddly like the Asari, but imperialists like the Protheans were and find a whole new set of worlds ripe to be conquered that are still in the process of rebuilding after the Reaper War.

Hi guys, hope you still read this. I am new to the forums but am a passionate fan of your games.

Multiplayer is a must but with new maps and minor tweeks. It was awesome, best MP ever in a game. "F" - CoD.

I would love a game set after the reaper war. We never explored batarian space, the veil, the terminus systems, and now the systems wrecked by the reapers. Think about all the blown up reapers, there is eezo spread all over the galaxy waiting to be pirated and cerberus is still a lingering threat all be it a vastly reduced one. Liara as the shadow broker is walking a fine line between guide and king maker. All the resistance organisations to the reapers has no doubt spawned tons of pirates and smugglers, the rachni, the geth, the quarians,  the leviathans, the cured krogan, remnants of the minor races (i.e. batarians, volus, elcor, and drell) all need attention and resources. The salarians, turians, and asari are still dominant but very tenuously and maybe not without earths help. huh? huh??? Earth comes out being the leader of the council and due to our fast reproduction the quickest after the salarians to repopulate and rebuild.

The game starts by picking one of the races to be your specter (human, asari, krogan, salarian, geth, batarian, or drell more added as dlc) They are already a specter, the backstory is only to tutor on controls, and then it is killers smugglers pirates mercenaries assassins and intrigue for all.

The citadel is still over earth so the citadel is the home base and earth is the galactic hub of culture and commerce ; think galaxy themed bazaar filled with bits and pieces from everywhere where the blasted spots have been filled with alien communites and earth first revolutionaries.

How about star child teaches us how to work and repair the citadel and the relays then we could explore areas never before seen for good or ill.

In short there is still a treasure trove of stories and adventure to be had. Set 20, 50, 100 whatever the farther away the more intrigue, the closer the more action. Treading a line between killing anything that breaths and rebuilding species, repairing civilizations or carpet bagging broken worlds, reverse engineer reaper tech for quick fixes or follow more traditional research and get a different payoff later.

just some thoughts, thanx for your time.

If I'm heard awesome!

Am I the only one that doesn't like 'prologues/origins' to any video game franchise??

For example,WE KNOW the Protheans lost their fight against the Reaper...We also know how the Protheans were on top of all other civilization. one last example we don't need to know how the First Contact War went, we can read the Codex and know A LOT about it.

Please Bioware go forth with the story. I don't need the story to take place 20 minutes after the events of the first trilogy. All I want is either on of these options : you take ME4's story 20,000 years before the original trilogy or 20,000 years after it. don't need to be 20,000...I want to have a big time span so that I'll be SURPRISED by the events occuring in ME4.

If not like that, I feel like I'll be less passionate about the new game. I just don't like to know the outcome without even having started the game.

Thank you

Ardat-Yakshi content. I love those space vampire-succubi femme fatales and would like to see more of them in the story, especially as anti-heroes, villains and/or syndicates! Maybe even.... playable?  :D

Playable aliens, each with a good amount of appearance customization and each with their own set of back stories similar to Earth-born, Spacer and Colonist. For example, if you want to be an Asari your back story options would be something like Justicar, Ardat-Yakshi, or Commando. Or if you choose Krogan your options would be Battlemaster, Mercenary, Shaman etc. The story would be slightly tweaked depending on what background you pick but the overall experience would remain the same. (I would personally love to play as an escaped Ardat-Yakshi and romance as many characters as possible!  )

Multiplayer-styled classes in Story Mode. For example, if you want to be an Infiltrator that uses swords in Story Mode you could be. I would also love it if the ability Dominate made a return.

More clothing options. Like have bodysuits from ME1 as armor options instead of having to wear heavy military armor. Or maybe even street clothes in combat like some of the companions. And don't be afraid to include feminine and glamorous outfits like Aria's, Samara's or Miranda's because some of us like our characters kicking ass in heels or cat suits, and not in a perverted way, in an aesthetic way!

Multiplayer Story Mode! I would personally love this but it might seem hard, but you could make it up to like 3 players, two of the players playing as squadmates. Or maybe other players can even play as their own Campagin characters together. Either way, I would love multiplayer Story Mode.

Citadel DLC was a funny good-bye but I would like to see the story go back to being more serious and ME 1&2 styled.

Not as much auto-dialogue as ME3.

More different outcomes.

Take your time to make it awesome ;)

This what I would envision for the next mass effect(A little revision from my last post).

1. The next mass effect game has to be a sequel (at least the next one that comes out).  Bioware should go with a similiar model that Ubisoft did for Assassin's creed(release multiply titles inbetween the main games), give fans their sequel that is set after ME3 and then while the main team works on the next games in the series (2/3), they should have another team(I believe they said Bioware Montreal is the main team this time, so Bioware Huston or Edmonton) work on another Mass Effect game that is set before the original series. Something like the Morning War, First Contact or even Shepards orgin story or some character that has glimpses of Shepard during the play through(since they did say Shepards story is done).  Not only will that please the fans, you will create even a more diverse/enthriling universe for Mass Effect.

2. Make the new story something different and only touch on Shepards story a little with the sequels.  What I would of envisioned would be start at the end of ME3, a team of rag tag mercs arerunning from a reaper and hit a mass relay, just as the mass effect is hit with the R/B/G beam and this overcharges there engines and sends them out of our universe with no way back and all they have is each other among other aliens and their only goal is to survive! Maybe send a Reaper with them, a new main villian who starts enslaving parts of the new universe. Have aliens races on the merc team that we love so it doesnt completely throw out the original races, like a turian and volus engineer, asari twins, a female and male quarien, and 2 other humans on the ship.  Make it so that you recruit more aliens and they have improve your ship and your survival rate in the new universe. This is something different and something not like shepard which you already said you wanted for the main character. Or have the sequal set hundreds of years into the future and the main character a bounty hunter or private dick, traveling the galaxy looking for clues for your cases or trying to catch someone for a bounty.

3. Now I am not a fan of this 3rd option but it seems a lot fo people want it, the ability to select your race. I personally think you should stay human...always so you can reflect on the personal choices you make. Like how it was in the original, I believe a lot of user thought as Shepard as themselves, rather then just a character Bioware made.  This makes it easier to write the story and bypass other technical issues you might run into.  Multiply races should be done for an MMO like SWTOR, not for a game like Mass Effect were Shepard was such a huge impact on the story and on personal experiences for the users. I am ok with multiple races for multiplayer though.

4. Romances should be fleshed out a bit more.  One thing I noticed in the Mass Effect games is that, the romances, while some has touching scenes, where not always equal when compared to others.  Alot of people have fallen in love with your characters and take them pretty seriously.  Give him their snuggle scene/love scence/more one on one conversations with your love interest(a must! One on one to find out more about your romance, back story about them, etc). Also more gay/bisexual/straight/alien romance options, blaze new trails! Also make more drama choices, Mr. Hudson originally envisioned Mass effect as a space opera, so lets have those drama scenes, like more picking between romances, more cheating/not cheating choices, heart to heart with romances and etc. Love it or hate it, one of the greatest pilars of Mass Effect is the romances. Also, a romance or flirt option, we know what red/blue are, why not make flirt/romance a pink option?

5.The ability to explore a bit more, like ME1, except not like ME1 haha(yeah you read that right) I loved how you could just on a planet...but then going over mountains/hills with the vehicle sucked balls(falling off a mountain and almost near vertical slopes to get out?!!? whyyyyyy?!) haha so more on-foot/in space ship/in a vehicle like tank options for exploration, its a huge universe out there and I like to explore the plants for resources/side quests/weapons/etc.

6.Choices - Never get rid of this,  you should always keep the ability to make choices, they make the users feel more passionate about the game, as you seen in the fan outrage about ME3 ending initially.  But it should be more like SWTOR, I'd like to know if I am picking a bad or good choice lol and add two more options, a Pink romance option and a say green neutral option.  There have been times in ME2 on my fem shep were all i wanted to do was say hi to Jacob and my femshep ends up wanting to sleep with him right there on the work bench lol thats not what I wanted! I would say limit the big choices for the first game and then expand into the sequels and by the third game, have those choices make a difference in the ending.

7. For the love of god, make don't auto-dialogue the main way to talk to your teammates. While I believe it is nessessary for time issues/etx, if you do make a lot of auto-dialgue, you should still give us the ability to talk to the characters, I hated it when in ME3, I could not talk to my teammates after they finished their auto-dialogue part and only say "Hello Shepard" a thousand times before the next mission.  You should have auto dialogue and then talk to the user to find more in-depth on their thoughts about whats happening or the previous mission.  When you think about it, auto-dialouge is more natural for the game but I also would actually love to talk to my teammates lol.

8. DLC - this is a given, never stop until the next game comes out, we will continue to buy it!(you know you will reader).  Exand on the sides stories that you wanted to touch on, explain more lore, etc..  I think you have a great DLC model at the moment, free mutiplayer DLC but paid single player DLC. I love DLC, it gives me more reasons to play the game over and over.

9. Side quests - I truely believe side quests should have more focus. ME1 side quests were like go here, do this/some story, done in 5-10 minutes. ME2 was more go here, now go here, and then here....and one more here....oh another place to go now, with very little story if any! While ME3 side quests were just a simply fetch quests. You should have more meaning/story to the side quests and more dialogue in them.  Also don't make them part of the main story, they are side quests for a reason(not like the item fetch inside the N7 missions in ME3) I also loved the loyality missions in ME2, please have more of these! Picking up random people and making them save the galaxy, while fun, would make more sense if you actually found out about the character before they trusted your character.

10. Multiplayer - Dont ever make the main story results dependent on MP lol I hated this for ME3, I spent 6-7 hours grinding with retards/douche bags online to get my readiness at 100%.  You should still have MP though, since its kind of fun with friends and keep the character creation but have a little more in-depth with them. Like have the character creation tool from the main game, implemented into MP so it makes the characters more unique.  Maybe add more classes as well and not just 5 classes with slightly different skill sets, or have it so they more can be added in the future. Maybe even add a "story" mode to the multiplayer, like titanfall. Several maps with certain story to each map.

I hope the Mass Effect team reads this thread or even Casey Hudson or Yanick Roy.  I look forward to whatever the future is with Mass Effect and I am definitely a fan for life, Mass Effect has affected my life for sure! Lets continue the franchise for a long time Bioware!

The story should play extremly far in the future, So: Lot's of changes, Shepards choice doesn't play a big role anymore.

I would also like to see a sci-fi game that's not focusing on a "galaxy-wide threat" that is about to destroy all alien races. I don't know, I think that would be kind of reptitive after the reapers. There has to be another threat.

  • Maybe an alien virus that is constantly mutating and endangering all life in the universe (perhaps man-made, etc.)
  • Maybe some new, handsome, arrogant, highly advanced alien species whose leaders mean to enslave some races, but at the same time there are people from that same race that are against the idea. So drama, putsch attempts, rebellions, etc. The bad guys are not an entire species, but individuals.
  • I'd like to see more of the politics of all these alien planets and the intrigues and I'd also like to see the increasing gap between the rich and the poor on earth playing a bigger role (I mean the gap was mentioned in the game).
  • Perhaps some Alien parties playing with the idea of a human genophage because c'mon we're multiplying like rabbits. History is constantly repeating itself, I don't think a second genophage would be much of a problem.
  • Maybe a "New" first contact war with a new powerful alien race. You have to play peace maker or destroyer.
  • The protagonist is not a soldier but gets involved with the military/politics (e.g. a crime, witness of an assassination, etc). You don't start as someone with a name, you're a nobody at the beginning. The more you play, the bigger your role in the universe.
  • I demand turian ladies. Give me a lesbian turian lady please and I can die peacefully.
  • More than one person from a species on a ship. I thought it's sad you couldn't get to meet a new quarian companion, or another turian.
  • I would like to see alien children, how the hell do they even look like?
  • Romanced characters/Cheated-on-characters have more influence on the story (I want grudges, drama and and guilt-trips, I want to question my priorities, please)
  • Bringing special characters to certain missions can trigger some plottwists --> Characters influence story; there is no  "commander"-relationship anymore so characters can act as shitty as they want.
  • I want the Mako back and I want space fights.
  • It would be absolutly great to explore the planets a bit more; finding unknown species', treasures, old technology

God, there are so many possibilities if they go for a sequel.
