Mass Effect 3 Remake, with Karpyshin and Weekes leading the script.

Yeah, get Karpy back and don't do it at all unless EA lets you take time to not screw up the ending.  The last good ending of a Bioware game was ME2.  Everything since then has been meh-tacular.  And don't DLC us to death.  When you do that you cut story out so it doesn't make sense like the ending of ME3.  I played ME3 and was underwhelmed until a year later when I heard the DLC made the ending sort of make sense.  So I got it and it did.  By then it was too late to take the stink off.  Bioware was a great company for making games but that time has come and gone.  EA bought you and they're pimping you.  Your name is mud unless you start putting out like you used to.  That kind of work takes time.  Its not like throwing together burgers at Hungry Jacks.

Drew isn't coming back, he's writing his own fantasy novel series (just pointing that out), also Drew's writing skills are over exaggerated (having him on the team is won't mean a great story see Raven novel.)

It addresses the complaints from the fans that felt that the conclusion to ME3 rendered the impact of their previous decisions in the series moot. This way, whatever weak choice you made, an entire reality will burst forth into existence, with your final choice in ME3 driving the logic of that entire universe. It's not a reboot, it's three sequels, each one a reboot of the the other two. It's so POMO. Think of the possibilities. Universes with and without the Geth, Reapers, Sheppard!!! One universe the way you wanted it and the other two a voyeuristic trip through 'what might have been'...The only question is: Which universe to release first...?

That would be too expensive to pull off, I think they should make destory canon (just the ending nothing else so Shepards gender, LI etc can still be decuded by the player) and go foward from there, I'm willing to aceept a canon ending if we get a good story out of it.

Completely agree with the above. Just canonize the most popular ending and make a good cohesive story out of the next trilogy. Producing three games concurrently is ludicrous.

Or better yet, don't canonize anything and just make a Mass Effect game.

 

If it's any good, it'll stand on its own.

I'd say they've already reached that point.  Just canonizing the most popular end state is just a recipe for breaking the base even further.

Not matter what they do people won't be happy, they should just focus on making a good game rather than please everyone (and fail).

Yes, as would I. They won't though, it'll be the same chisel jawed gruff voiced white meathead as per any other recent FPS/3rd person shooter.

Well, part of me leans to two things I would personally like to see. First, I would like the next game to pick up a little after Mass Effect 3 and be centered around the destroy option at the end of the game (Shepard surviving). Not sure why, but I would like to see Shepard not as the main protagonist, but fall more into a role similar to what Anderson held in ME1-3, (this being due to sunstantial injuries sustained after ME3) to whomever the next protagonist(s) may be. In addition, I have a recurring tendency to think along the lines of what would the Leviathan do as a species, post reaper destruction? Since they were at one time the apex race and the fact that they made it clear in ME3 that they still clearly viewed themselves as above all other species (as well as having no further fear of destruction from the reapers), they would literally be free to expand as a species. I wouldn't look at them so much as being bent on destruction like the reapers were, but could easily see them pushing to dominate all other existing species in the universe (and beyond?).

if this is a military oriented game, like if the PC is a military commando of some kind... I'd maybe like to start out as an NCO or maybe a grunt, and have the character move up the ranks during the game, maybe finish it as a low-mid level officer with combat experience, and knack for tactical thinking. then in the next title (if it goes the same character for the series route), make the character a regimental officer, with more command experience, and a reputation for solid strategic capability, and in the final installment s/he finally becomes a general, or admiral commanding a large military force (though still fighting in the field however unlikely that is). I think I'd like that. well, on second thought, I have no clue about how I'd actually feel about all of it.

I'm okay with being associated with a military/martial force of some kind.

 

In fact, I expect it.

 

But:

1)I want to be able to disassociate myself from it much more easily than with Shepard.

2)I want to not be a 'Soldier'. At all. Done with that, and for the record, I was cool with that with Shep. Just not now. If the next protag is picked as a combat 'Soldier' class by the player, I expect that to be reflected in the story as much as Adept was for Shepard (aka not very much; mentions of his implants, and then back to soldierN7gruntcommanderetcetc).

3)Look at the Spectre/Cerberus freedom in the story, and turn that up to 11. No longer chained to obligations of any kind.

4)Like the Inquisitor, *I* want to be in control things much more this time. Make a lot of concepts beyond my grasp still, sure, but don't make me a tool/weapon/hope of other factions/characters like Shepard was, but instead be someone that uses others as tools/weapons/hopes.

5)Have my character less determined than Shepard. Have him have more doubts about himself and what he's doing than ever. Have him face more moral greys, and no overwhelming enemy force but instead a lot of competing interests.

How about a John McClane type character.

 

You're a down on your luck average Joe who is in the wrong place at the wrong time.

From then on you go from zero to hero, as your forced into difficult situations and eventually have to make some tough choices.

 

I would like the transition to be very slow and gradual.

You only reach Commander Shepard levels of awesome at the end of the game.

You have to work towards it.

I know it seems that way, especially since devs rarely post here, but I'm almost entirely sure that they still read this. Not all of them, and they have CMs for this to relay more pertinent info, but I don't even know of a major dev studio (from my experience) that doesn't have anyone reading their boards. Could be a lot of them avoid here for the sake of not getting sucked into negativity though (though that kind of thing is more often a give and take - the less they communicate, the more people resent it).

Casey Hudson probably glances over this thread from time to time, rather than reading 218 pages.

That is my definition of tedious.

 

Especially since 99% of the feed back on these pages are probably the same stuff.

 

 

More exploration

Make choices meaningful

More RPG elements

Tighter shooting controls

Retcon the endings

Make the game more like Mass Effect 1.

 

 

If the posts are not just a list of RPG elements and tighter shooting controls, they're a long plot summary.

If you keep your plot summary vague, they might be able to incorporate it. However if you give them an in depth plot that is over 50,000 characters long they won't be able to use it for legal reasons (unless you're credited and paid a lot of money).

 

 

Which is why I kept my plot summary very, very vague.

Also it's been done before, meaning it's not even my idea.

Ardat-Yakshi content. I love those space vampire-succubi femme fatales and would like to see more of them in the story, especially as anti-heroes, villains and/or syndicates! Maybe even.... playable?  :D

 

 

Handmaiden - I would like to see more Ardat-Yakshi content in the upcoming Mass Effect games, as the Mass Effect series was very inconsistent about the AY.  

 

However, your interpretation of the Ardat-Yakshi is different than mine.

 

For me, the Ardat-Yakshi was an allegory (and a near-anagram) for Addiction and Recovery.  There was a time when addicts were highly stigmatized.  Their only option was to be placed in sanitariums for the rest of their lives.  For those found to be AY, their only choice is to be sequestered in a Monastery or to be Executed. 

 

An active addict is very selfish and self-centered.  They are manipulative and suck the life out of everyone who cares for them.  Morinth represented an addict who was fully under the control of her addiction.  Like addicts who never recover, Morinth faces a grim outcome.  She is either killed in her Mother's "intervention" or if Shepard "enables" her she eventually supposedly succumbs to the Reaper indoctrination process and dies a Banshee.

 

When 12-step programs were introduced, addicts could recover from a seemingly hopeless disease by turning their will and lives over to Higher Power, and by the constant thought for the wellbeing of others.  This actually seems analogous to the Justicar moral code of conduct.  In fact, I was wondering if Samara was really an AY who was able to overcome her condition through the spiritual practices and asceticism of the Justicar code.  It would seem that the life of a Justicar would be the only way an AY could live a functional life.  If you look at Morinth's sister Rila as an example of a recovered Ardat-Yakshi - she sacrifices herself so that her sister, mother (if she survived ME2) and Shepard can escape and takes a few Reapers with her.

 

I think there are a lot of untapped plot opportunities for the Ardat-Yakshi.  Some of my thoughts:

 

 

  • There was a secret group of AY who adopt the Justicar code as a way of recovering for their condition. They would look for other Ays and try to help them.  They run into quandary when one of their member "relapses" after a charming young man helps her out of a jam.  She tries to resist his advances.  In a moment of weakness the AY hunger kicks in.  She "relapses"  with dire consequences.  She decides to turn herself in.  But once she is handed over to the Justicars she inadvertently reveals the secret AY "Justicar" group she was a part of.  Since people see the AY as a disease to be purged, these AY Justicars are hunted down.

 

  • A young Asari Maiden has no idea she is an AY and mistakenly kills her first lover.  On top of being horrified for what she has done, an angry mob wants her executed.  A sympathetic person saves her at the last minute and brings her to safety.  She spends the rest of her life trying to atone for the mistake, but has the Justicars hunting her down for her crime.  Kind of a spin on Les Miserables (Les Miserables-Yakshi?)

 

  • Finally, Morinth Lives (Ardat-Yakshi Redemption):

It turns out it takes more than a Biotic Left hook, or Reaper indoctrination to take out an Ardat-Yakshi.  Outlaw Morinth surrenders herself to the Justicars after hitting her bottom.  The Justicars promise her a pardon from execution and will let her live in the monestary if she can help stop a mega-Ardat-Yakshi more powerful and psychopathic than Morinth ever was. This mega AY makes Hannibal Lecter look like nice person in comparison.  The Justicars themselves are too scared to go after the mega AY.  

 

Unbeknownst to Morinth - the Justicars are just using Morinth.  Either the Mega Ardat-Yakshi kills Morinth, or Morinth kills the Mega Ardat-Yakshi and then the Justicars execute Morinth.  

 

On her quest, Morinth needs to convince other people to work with her.  She can either be renegade and use manipulative tactics, or paragon to use kindness, compassion, and selfless acts. Morinth's reputation precedes her and proves difficult at first. But people see her as genuinely reformed.  She makes close friends for the first time in her life and shows herself to be a good and fearless leader.  

 

In the final showdown with Mega AY, Mega AY tries to kill Morinth by melding minds with her.  There is some levity because Mega AY tells Morinth: "Do you know that when one AY melds minds with another? You will feel unimaginable pleasure.  I think your mind is strong enough to survive that Morinth.  I want you to have that.  It will change your life."

 

Morinth responds: "I have used that line a hundred times on my victims.  Nice try."  

Mega AY says: "I figured - I never get sick of telling my victims that though. Oh that's funny.  But seriously - I will feel unimaginable pleasure.  You - not so much.  In fact, when one AY melds minds with another AY only the strongest mind will survive the other will die. Your mind is strong Morinth - but I not nearly strong enough."

 

Knowing she has no choice, she tries to fight the Mega AY in a battle of mind melding.  She puts up a fight, but the Mega AY is too strong, Morinth realizes she has lost.  As she concedes, she thinks of the new friends she made.  They believe in her.  She realizes they love her and she loves them.  She sees into the mind of the Mega AY and realizes how similar they both are.  Morinth thinks of all the lives she destroyed driven by the insane AY hunger. She knows that she and the Mega AY are the same.  They were both born with the AY condition. They both let the condition consume them and control them.   Unlike the Mega AY, Morinth has felt genuine love.  She pities the Mega AY that she will never feel love as Morinth has felt.  As she is about to lose consciousness - rather than wishing harm on the Mega AY, she wishes that her sister AY may feel love as she has.  This final thought allows Morinth to win the "melding" battle.

 

Upon returning to the Justicars, Morinth learns of their deception.  She has the choice to either allow herself to be killed as a final act of redemption, fighting back killing the Justicars in the special way that an AY can, or escape to be on the run once again.

Uh...well, AY cannot have children. They are sterile. They are actually a genetic dead end, unless we work to change that situation scientifically. And why would we, when their 'intercourse' always kills the partner?

 

 

Anyway, Samara became a Justicar not because she's an AY, but because as a more ordinary mother, she couldn't bear to make the situation right. So, she adopted the Justicar Code and joined the order, in order to change herself into someone actually prepared to rectify the situation - and kill her own children. She used the Code as her passage to redemption.

 

 

There is an addictive element to the AY, absolutely. However, it's also a story about personal extremes of chaos and order. If there's one thing I speculate about this, it is whether AY used to rule the primitive asari, before the Prothians got involved.

Ardat-Yakshi are like our psychopaths only rooting one will kill you.

AYs like psychopaths have no empathy not to be confused with having no feelings, because they can have feeling but the lack of empathy skews those feelings, for example a psychopath can love someone but that love takes the form something more like ownership then how a non-psychopath would view loving someone. The lack of empathy also means that they do not develop a conscience, so if they do hurt someone by accident or on purpose they will have no remorse. Most psychopaths are law abiding citizens not because of some moral imperative but because they know if they break the law they will be punished. They are selfish people who mostly gravitate to management, finance (money marketers/stock brokers) and politics and get off on the trail of destruction left behind them as they climb to top the ladder.

About 1% of men and 0.5% of women are psychopaths, but that is not counting people who have psychopathic traits but are not psychopaths. Surprisingly most of our greatest would leaders had psychopathic traits and a few may have been actual psychopaths.

There have been some interesting romantic ideas on AYs but if you replaced Ardat-Yakshi with psychopath and put them in a contemporary setting they would not wash. The codex gives the impression that most AYs that can control themselves are allowed to live in the general population.

“Contrary to popular belief, Ardat-Yakshi are neither extremely rare (around one per cent of asari dwell on the AY spectrum), nor are they all murderers. Most cultivate and discard countless exploitative or abusive relationships during their legally marginal lives. Despite rumors of Ardat-Yakshi syndicates, by nature Ardat-Yakshi are incapable of long-term cooperation.
As a disproportionately wealthy species, asari employ their economic reach and media ownership to hide the AY pathology from the galactic community, placing most Ardat-Yakshi in monitored work programs or seclusion. Only the most aggressive cases are sentenced to sanitaria and prisons or to the execution lists of justicars.”

In ME3 if you listen to the two asari in the hospital, the PSD Commando says something like “I would have like to had a relationship with her but she had this condition.”
