Call it "Mass Effect: Spectre". Human, Salarian and Asari are your starting race options. Each has an 'Act One' on their respective homeworlds. After they prove themselves, they are taken to the Council for Spectre testing and training.

Make it incredibly RPG'ish. Have different quest lines based on your species. Have the overarching plot be a bit more sneaky and have your character put in less of a spotlight. Start with a small 2-person ship and as you progress and gain allies, you get bigger ships.

Different companions for each race with a few of the same ones running through each Species Arc.

^ This.
Gimme a ship-/weapon-/armor-tinker option and I'll be very happy.
If you don't want to implement a big skilltree, add a tinkertree for upgrades und such. Just give me (or us ^^) the feeling I (we) have something to do when not shooting everything that moves ...
Add NPCs that don't fight but have a real reason to recrut. Doc, Weaponspecialist whatever. Even better - don't let the player recrute all.
This may not seem like much, but it'll add a really big variaty in playthroughs without changing big things.

The ME Universe has a great potential, which will not be fully used, even BioWare make ME4, later ME5 and ME6. Only MMO game gives the full ability to use this potential. Personally, I`d like to play Mass Effect MMO RTS/FPS, but I am know... such game never will be created. Most of the fans want the classic RPG. So I support the majority.

My personal expectations following:
most important:
1. sequel only - game beginning 5-6 hundred years after Reaper invasion (new situation in galaxy, some squadmates: Liara, Wrex could live yet, Aria rather not... )
2. "Destruction" as a canon ending of ME3 - the control was Illusive Man`s purpose, the synthesis... such ending IMO could be invented only by and for AI :/
3. ME3 saved games: I expect that my Shep decision from ME1/ME2/ME3 are obligatory,
4. explanation further fates of Shepard (I hope he can survive) and Normandy crew members,
5. OFFLINE mode accessible! EA servers too often are inaccessible and we even can`t play SP mode :(
6. the FROSBITE 2 ... yes!

important:
7. new, main player character (Shepard can be mentioned, shown in the archived videos) & new squadmates,
8. playing at least as asari, turian or salarian/krogan accesible,
9. starships, planetary vehicles also space & planetary battles accesible,
10. at least few starship classes (basic shuttle, frigate, destroyer, cruiser) - availability depends on the player level
11. two-person basic shuttle for the beginner,
12. purchase of the new and used ships accessible - usually not customizable,
13. customizable starship if is ordered and built in shipyard (expensive but accesible)
14. crew/squadmates open recruiting accesible,
15. full planetary exploration reintroduced (like in ME1),
16. more dialogs, conversations, without auto-dialogs,

less than important, but important:
17. squadmates can agree/accept or not with player`s decisions/actions,
18. squadmates can be killed in action (like in ME2)  - mission can be aborted,
19. some locations (Omega, Citadel) could be multiplayer locations, not only for PvP mode, but for shopping, crew recruting, starship repairing etc.,
20. multiplayer locations accesible directly from SP mode.

To be honest the thought of a prequel to me is horrible there's enough lore in game and out of game to tell me what happened prior to humanity becoming a member of the galactic commmunity. What I want to know is what happens next, I hate games that delve into the past, I just spent almost 6 years fighting for the fate of the galaxy so I can live in it, not so I can pull a Doc brown, and see a less high tech mankind fight an army of garus.

I think and trully feel the best thing for the series outside of a reboot/another go at extended cut, would be an MMO set during the climax of ME3 and continuing on. And the only way to do this without pissing off the community even further is to make the indoctrination theory a real and canon ending for ME3.

The tutorial of the game would have you creating a character from one of the many races of the galaxy and prepairing them to take part in Operation HAMMER the end of the tutorial would be you recovering sheppard from the battle field, and the game takes off from there with your character and the rest of the galaxy fighting the reapers, maybe the first "raid" or "instance" would have your character and a player squad along side NPC Shep board the citadel to fire off the cruicible which weakens but does not flat out destroy the reapers. Thus allowing the galaxy to fight back conventionally and for the MMo to trully take place.

And I'm fully aware of the upcoming storm of flames and hatred that will be directed towards me for saying mass effect and mmo in the same sentance. However I have said my piece so have a good day all.

Validate IT, send me £50 and a big apology, then make certain that ME4 development is begun but never makes it out of development hell. I think that will do.

While this isn’t an official thread and the chances that someone from BioWare will actually read what we have to say are slim at best, I’m going to write here my ideas for ME4 nevertheless. I’m assuming that ME4 will be a 3rd person RPG, like ME1-3.

I personally don’t have any problems with prequels, provided that they have a fundamentally different plot. But it seems that the majority of users here on BSN long for the sequel to ME3.

I know that creating the sequel to the ME trilogy is a big challenge. However, it’s certainly doable. At any rate, I think the story should take place several (5-15) years after ME3. There should be a completely new main character and new squadmates. Additionally, the plot shouldn’t focus on another end-of-the-galaxy war.

Anyway, I would be very grateful if it was possible to import ME3 saved games. It’s indisputable that many of our choices from the trilogy will have no impact on the story in the next game (e.g., the ending we chose, the fate of the rachni, krogans, geth, quarians, and so on). There simply has to be canon for major decisions. Having said that, I believe that the majority of fans would be happy to see at least some changes to the story line. For instance, I’d love to meet my ME1-3 teammates (cameo roles) and talk to them about what they were up to in the past few years. And, of course, meeting my Shepard and/or his/her LI would be great.

I think the combat and reputation system in ME3 is great, so there’s no need to change it. I’d like to suggest, however, that you include less auto dialogue in ME4. I’m not a fan of the multiplayer, so I’d prefer if it didn’t have major impact on the single player experience. I guess ME3 strikes a good balance between SP and MP and therefore you could follow that example.

Finally, BioWare, focus on what you are the best at. And I think that’s designing characters(especially squadmates) and allowing players to interact with them in various ways. The characters in the ME trilogy are truly amazing. You certainly have many talented writers. So, use it fully to your advantage in ME4.

I'm assuming Mass Effect 3 is too much to ask, huh? Y'know, the one where our decisions matter, where we actually have a chance to win, where prior established plotlines are elaborated upon in minute detail and explored in depth, with subtle nuances dependant on whether whether you flirted with Liara or Ashley prior to pursuing that romance with Shiala and then abandoning her for Samara?

I would like a sequel where Javik and Liara are writing their book, and the central conflict is them arguing about certain points in the book, as to what to use and what not. That would be awesome.

Nah kidding. I would like a sequel wich takes place 30 years after ME3. With chances to meet Wrex and Javik and Garrus. With a save import feature, so that maybe you'll have conversations that will differ wether you cured the Genophage or not. And some locations to return, like the Citadel. See how it changed after ME3's ending. Cool right?

But, I do really prefer a sequel. Prequels are cool, but I don't see how it will work within ME.

I think it'd be cool to start at the beginning, where the relay is found and a story about humanity struggling in the newly reachable expanses of the galaxy.

Why are you kidding? i love the sound of that :P You could play some general everyday soldier and Javik and Liara could narate over your playing giving the story of what is happening, and every now and then they could have an argument and the world around you changes to what they describe.

People always dislike the idea of prequels. As Halo Reach was announced many many (might just a loud minority) people asked "Why are you doing this? We want to know what happened with the Master Chief!"
In the end it was the best selling Halo game with a great story.

I don't know why people are unhappy with prequels and spin-offs, although they like and buy them eventually anyway...

To me the best way to keep the series going would be:

1) To release an epilogue DLC which sets up a "canon" ending (obviously the only ending where Shepard is supposed to survive), and to continue from here. Eventually this epilogue would contain a reunion with your crew that many people want but most importantly it would clearly explain what happened to all the races of the galaxy, how they managed to rebuild everything etc. The goal is mainly to clear things up and pave the way for ME4. (of course this won't happen but one can dream)

2) Or making a brand new IP, still in the Mass Effect universe, with no mention whatsoever of the reapers, Shepard, the crew or any plot of the previous games. From here the writers would be free to go anywhere.

Otherwise that means either a prequel - which doesn't seem very appealing to me, or making Shepard come back from the dead if choosing synthesis/control, or a brand new character but this still requires to choose 1 ending as canon, and personally I won't buy it if Shepard is gone for good.

I'm with 2.) Reboot. Bioware seems pretty against giving the fans what they truly want and that is numero uno!B)

I'm in favor of reboot as well, but I worry that BW have already spent their best ideas for the ME universe.  Even with a reboot, wouldn't you still have the same alien races?

I really don't think Bioware should be creating another ME game at the moment, I think they should focus on Mass Effect 3 for a while.

I'd like a brand new trilogy(if the initial game succeeds) that has nothing to do with the Shepard trilogy. There are too many variables to carry from a trilogy(which is why the third ME suffered, story-wise). Start fresh and learn from your mistakes.

Something ME3 lacked was the interaction with the environment that ME1 & 2 had. ME3 is too straight forward. Simply put, don't sacrifice the RPG from the games.
-The balance of RPG/Shooter should be like in ME1.
-Expanded character creation. Maybe more races(though a VERY limited amount).

Mass Effect : Origins

This is easy, I want to play as all the different races in a pre-reaper galaxy at least 5 years before the ME trilogy. Post-ME3 is unlikely, and I don't even want to bother with that discussion.

Prequel seems the order of business.  Although far, far future sequel where the effects of Destroy, Control, and Synthesis are, but a distant memory is also possible.  It'd be hard to write a story immediately after ME3 though, too many dramatically different variables.

The sad fact is after the terrible ending of ME3 is that i have stopped caring about ME at all. A fan that totally supported everything is now gone from ME. i dont care how bioware choose the next step for ME.

I have for now decided to leave ME for good, the only thing and i mean it the only thing to get me back into the franchise, is to simply apply the IT and create a new ending, the ending is the importent part and not IT.

Its not worth it anymore, im sorry

No prequels, no MMO, no pure FPS/action/action-adventure game.

I really want another ME RPG trilogy, set AFTER ME3 and with a new hero we can customize like Shep and transfer throughout 3 games.

Plz Bioware!

id like to hear you explain how a sequel will work after the events of me3 with none of the charachters from that trilogy

if you can really impress me with some details maybe ill agree otherwise a prequel game isnt that bad of an idea

Someone did suggest setting the game in Andromeda.
But that would be a different franchise.

Just as Neverwinter Knights is a parallel franchise to Baldur's Gate.

- New story arc for Shepard perhaps Leviathan as the enemy, trying to take back the galaxy
- Playing as a new character after the Reaper war, any species
- Shepards Origins
- Spin off with Garrus and his crew on Omega
- Prothean war with the Reapers
- Rachni Wars
- First Contact play as Jon Grissom (if he was around then)
- Krogan Rebellions
- Morning War

1) More RPG flavor while using some ideas from their own multiplayer.
-Choose your race
-Choose which powers you want (now that there are a ton of them with new ones to come)
-Being able to train in new powers while adding more xp points to use via training station (Pinnacle Station)
-Change your appearance mid game
-Change color of each individual armor peice
-Possible skins for your armor (Blue Suns, N7, Alliance, ect..)

2) Bigger, more open, less linear levels (so tell your level designers to discontinue their lack of effort)
-Especially side missions.
-Sometimes a barren wasteland is just what we need.
-Variety of weather with unsuspected events (Sandstorms, Blizzards, Thresher Maws, ect..)

3) Vehicles, because they add that change of pace that is needed.
-Whole variety of vehicles and ships
-Customizable parts for vehicles and ships
-Make vehicles move realistically (while playing Overlord I felt my Hammerhead came out of a disney game)

4) Scrap the Scanning the planets for minerals mini-game
-instead add them to the side missions to mine via (example- drone)
-or stealing an enemies cache.

Point 1 is what I've been banging on about for ages.

The other 3 points are also so good, I find them hard to disagree with.
