I would ask for a "Joss Whedon Avengers 2 approach". make it more personal and less epic... the next threat should not overshadow the Reapers...
Maybe some form of Council conspiracy...?

I want to add one more idea to my wish-list.

It would be nice if new ME game will have full-scale set of benefitial neutral responses. I think that "only Paragon or Renegade choices" system is already outdated.

I can see a post-reaper line where the galaxy is a shambles due to the destruction caused by the war. Species are at odds with each other as they try to rebuild quicker.

Idea #1: You are the leader of a spec ops squad. Origin arcs for an Asari Commando Squad, an STG Squad, or an N7 Squad. Keep the RPG elements going and ad a more covert way of gameplay like the infiltrator/Aratoht mission attempt.

Idea #2: After what Liara does with Sheperd at the end of ME3, I think it's reasonable she mated with him/her (something to share). There could be a blue asari running around to continue the post-reaper adventures as a Sheperd offspring.

Make it about a Reaper War vet (option to be Alliance or Cerberus origin) private investigator or independent operative (ie. Capt Mal) in over his head working for some political leader in a small out-of-the-way system on an investigation that explodes into some massive intergalactic conspiracy.

The first mission should be set during the Reaper War with his current squad, and whoever survives should determine who are the members of his/her team years later when the rest of the game picks up.

Would be cool to have a non-human protagonist. Krogan, Asari or Turian. Sort of DA:O influenced.
Completely new characters would be nice.
I'm fine with a prequel. Sequel feels like a better idea though.
No MP or co-op, no FPS, just pure SP RPG.
No more Cerberus.
No SP dependent on MP

Somebody wrote that they didn't want the Hero's journey-story, but I like that concept. I don't necessarily need the Hero's Journey-concept, but I think it is important to have a main goal to achieve and a clear plot and not what we had in DA2 where it just wasn't clear what the game was about.

Apart from that...RPG elements, dialogues with many choices (less autodialogue than in ME3, I want a game and not an interactive movie), lots of variations of the story depending on choices, lots of squad banter, weapon & armor costumization, keep character costumization (gender, class) and the possibility for LIs.

I have been a Bioware fan since Baldur's Gate I. I have purchased all of your games since the beginning, but I am no longer any kind of guaranteed customer. After DA2 and ME3 I am feeling burned, and here are the things that I would want to see for me to consider buying another game:

The game needs to be set in the future. The terrible endings need to be reconned out of existence. You could still use the indoctrination theme if you want, or you can go some sort of Deus Ex 2 sloppy retcon where some mixture of the endings all happened, or it can be hundreds of years in the future so what actually happened is all a bit fuzzy. You could always pick one of the 3 "canon" endings if you really want but I don't think I would buy - they leave the galaxy in a horrible state and I would be uninterested in continuing.

I would prefer you completely abandon the current endings and use indoctrination to continue and then wrap up this story in a proper fashion, but i have little hope this is what you will do at this point.

If its a prequel I have zero interest. I wont be buying, because i know the horrible fashion in which the story is destined to end.

And before you think that I need some super sweet ending to enjoy a series, my favorite game of all time was Planescape:Torment where the best ending still has your character (spoilers) being damned to Hell for all eternity. It doesnt need to be saccharine, but it needs to be well done. The ending makes the series, and this ending MUST be fixed or anything else in the series is meaningless.

A story to do with the Protheans. Their original home world.

And the main player as Javik.

The game would only tell who your charcter's name is at the end.

Or a fight against the Collectors & Reapers on eaither the Protheans home planet or Illos.

Illos had a good, nostalgic feel.

Javik never put a foot on the Prothean homeworld. It fell to the Reapers at the beginning of the war like the Citadel. Ilos was a myth in the Prothean Empire, nobody knew if it even existed.

I would honestly prefer there not be a ME4 because I believe ME series is fine as it is now. A trilogy, nothing more. Move on and make another great triology. However if there must be one:

I would prefer the story take in the final choices somehow, even if they only make a small difference.
A refined multiplayer that also has Co-op missions that you can do up to three friends.
Story is a whole new trilogy set after ME3 that has a new protagonist & new allies.
Small cameos if it fits the story.
Return of the citadel
a good variety of guns
A leveling up system like ME3
A good amount of sidequests
A working questlog
Fun mini-games to play
and that's all I can think of while I sit here and type with a headache. If I have anymore, I'll post them.

I really like this as a framing point for the rest of the story.  You could start with a sequence like this, then move to narration about what happened after the war to set the game up as it is.  End up setting ME4 roughly 15-20 years after the war.  Plenty of time to rebuild the relays, sorta.  Heck, this could even be a way for them to pull save data if they want to say for ex, "After the war, the Reapers just left.  No one knew why."  or something similar for the other endings.  Obviously this runs into the same problem as always, making synthesis gel with the other two in terms of similar futures for the galaxy.  But I like the idea.

Alien love interests for a gay player character, non-Asari alien love interests for a lesbian player character

Your LI to finish the relationship if you do something they finally morally repugnant

Female turians, female krogan for squad member

Love scenes for non-human characters get more than a fade to black, if there's a turian LI at least have him/her take his/her shirt off! (and you can use shirtless turian model for other things, like 'drunken shirtless turian making an arse out of him/herself in bar)

Nudity in love scenes for characters who aren't members of your favourite blue space stripper race (seriously just do what  movies do and have them be nude without actually showing anything) and have couples wake up under the bedcovers instead of waking up on top of the covers in their underwear (MShep/Steve)

Gemini1179 wrote...

Call it "Mass Effect: Spectre". Human, Salarian and Asari are your starting race options. Each has an 'Act One' on their respective homeworlds. After they prove themselves, they are taken to the Council for Spectre testing and training.

Make it incredibly RPG'ish. Have different quest lines based on your species. Have the overarching plot be a bit more sneaky and have your character put in less of a spotlight. Start with a small 2-person ship and as you progress and gain allies, you get bigger ships.

Different companions for each race with a few of the same ones running through each Species Arc.

Uh, what about those of us who like turians? And if it's set in the future how what about krogan spectres?

Think of it this way: we have nothing to lose and everything to gain by posting our ideas ^_^

And I like to believe that someone's reading this... Feel free to call me naïve:P

Put the series on the shelf for awhile and do something else. Turning ME into an annual franchise will ruin it.

Don't do stories that take place after ME3. Deus Ex Invisible War tried doing something similar and it failed horribly

What I'll suggest, to create a poll about it, Instead of a thread, regarding maybe the Time frame in which the next game takes place?
I dont know, but it will definitely get things sorted out well, and we all can have a clear Idea of what the fans want in majority.

I would hope that he's taking our opinions seriously. Given the EC though it's questionable as to whether our opinions are actually understood.

It's a shame if this all falls on deaf ears as the series is far from irretrievable at this point. Get the next game wrong though, and it likely will be. It's not too late yet so now's exactly the time where BW should be listening to people the most. Toe the party line of 'artistic vision beats everything else' though and it'll all but kill the franchise.

What I would like in ME4 :

-Don't hesitate to pick one of the ME3 endings as canon to build ME4. People will complain but they'll deal with it. After all they did it in ME3 if Shepard died in ME2 , and in awakening if the warden died in origins.
Also, a sequel featuring Shepard "rebuilding the galaxy" and facing whatever new threat you come up with would be my choice. Shepard is just a fantastic character and I'd like to continue the games with him/her.

-If this is supposed to be a new trilogy, don't hesitate to make the games a bit shorter if it allows you to give a bigger impact to the player's choices.. and it doesn't have to be complicated. eg :
Killing the rachni queen on Noveria and getting Grunt's loyalty in 2 should make grunt an asset as soon as we cross paths with him, after a short convo.
Killing the rachni and no loyalty would lead to the same encounter with diff dialogue and no grunt in the war assets.
Sparing the queen would lead to the mission as it is now, with loyalty determining whether Grunt lives or not, and whether or not we see the rachni in the ending slides.
In this example, the game would be a bit shorter for those who killed the rachni queen, but it would also really improve the impact of our decisions.

-Keep the same focus on dialogues and characters (though more dialogue options are always a nice addition), keep the gameplay more or less as it is in ME3 (great balance between 1 & 2 imo).

-Planetary exploration (or even larger urban environments) are a lot better than just scanning planets...so less scanning and more citadel/ilium/omega missions.

I want Shepard to return.

If not, then I want to play as an Asari. I can just imagine that...setting up the music in my cabin and mashing WASD or swinging the Analog stick around! *No sexual pun intended*

Hello together,

sorry. i could not read all your answers...
but i am happy to see so many...

i have played ME 1 & 2 and when ME 3 was delivered i played 1 & 2 again to be able to
import Shepard and go with the storyline like i wanted to. So i could correct all decisions i made.
The End of ME 3 was disappointing for me, even the explanations from the developer team.
How could you promise an end, influenced by your choices, an give us this 3 totally unsatisfying
story ends...
Regarding the actual end of ME 3 there should be no ME story anymore...

But may be there is a way of an alternative and more fan orientated end as intro for the next ME.
A not so "Epic" end on which you could build on...

Seeing Shepard to grow and earn experience was on of the best experiences i had in gaming.
The Genetic resurrection of Sheppard could have had some not foreseen side effects, like a far longer living... so you could start far later than the end of ME 3, or use the Asari Liara since she will anyway live longer...

fo me it would not make sence to go to a pre ME1 game or one in between 1&2&3.
We have seen so interesting upgrades that i do not want to play on a less technical level
regarding skills equipment psi implants...

I would like to see a new or ongoing story for the ME universe.
I would love to import Shepard and his/my decisions into the new game...
For some decisions like the Rachni Queen / Krogan you could implement an alternative enemy or ally from unknown parts of our galaxy/next galaxy or a political grow of a minority from the game.
In this case it would even be interesting to play the game twice.

But please stay with the points which make ME unique in some way.
-Ongoing story line between the games
-Character import
-Decisions and effects (even bigger effects)

Regards from a fan i Germany

How about going rogue ?

You start as a nobody on omega (you can choose race; Human/Batarian/Turian/etc. Krogan?) and must work your way up within criminal business. At start you have already a teammember, best buddy-counterpart (race changes depending which one you choose for yourself) and at some point will be a situation where you have to save your buddy, or let him down. Depending on your decision he will return later as an ally or enemy. During gameplay there will be more situations where you decide to be a icecold-killa or more like "Robin Hood". At some point you got recognition by some boss (Aria?) and bigger jobs outside of omega +a ship + a crew.

You attack colonies, plunder ships etc.
Possible crewmembers, Krogan (of course), a Geth like Legion but behaviour more like HK-47 (from KotoR), definitely an Batarian, some greedy Volus (onShipOnly), how about a female Turian(?), a Vorcha, etc.
Some fight better for you if you are a "nice badguy" and some prefer the "not so nice badguy".

Old shep-crewmembers;
- Zaeed has to come back, i like his design and voice-actor, would fit as a crewmember or NPCwithQuests
- Garrus, in some mission you have to deal with the spectre garrus who tries to take you down
- maybe some son/daughter of shepard
- Kasumi, joins/or works with you if you are "nice badguy"
- etc.

Hi everyone!

Shepard is gone and his/her story is finished.

My Idea for ME4: A character (from a kind of spiritual-energy race) who can und must possess other persons or creatures minds to fullfill the mission(s).
Remember - the Game from Shiny called "Messiah" - something like this. If that conflicts with copyright of that game - maybe the character can materialise as a character within limitations.

This provides the possibility of discovering every race in-the-deep und one must adept to the strengths and weaknesses of a every character.

best regards from Vienna ;)

My ideas:

1. For Shepard fans:
Mass Effect 4 continues the story of the "Destroy"-Ending, maybe at first a mission were the old crewmembers search after Shepard on the citadel. And after they found her or him, a story about a parallel universe (old science-fiction stuff many times before you heard or see it, I know! So don't blame me!), were the humans are at war with most of the other alien species after the first contact war or something like that  and then you can choose a evil or good way, something like the "good" alliance or you build a "bad" human galaxy empire. And at first you must fight against the "Parallel Shepard", hope you understand it! Copyright of the story by me, all rights reserved blabla HaHa!

2. Once again for Shepard fans:
Why at first a Mass Effect 3 Addon on DVD? Like Dragon Age Awakening? So that all Shepard fans can life in peace. And after that a new Mass Effect trilogy...

3. A game about the first contact war

4. And last but not least: Its just a game not real life! Haha!

Greetings from Germany (and I think my English is bad, or not?!)

Big thread and I'm sure (hope) many people mentioned this but ill do it again. No prequels, you've established what the First Contact war was and it isn't fodder for an entire game. Set it far in the future so the 3 choices don't make much of a difference, let's see where the galaxy goes, not where it's been.

More sci fi, horror, atmosphere, mystery, exploration, and character relationships. Less marines "hooah'ing" (or hoo-yah in Shep's case).
