I wouldn't mind a Splinter-Cell esque game about the STG.

Or as one based on Garrus's exploits on Omega.

I think it'd be nigh impossible to do a sequel, even set thousands of years in the future, because there's a 2/3 chance that either everyone's immortal due to being part machine, or there's an army of invincible space monsters running around keeping everyone in line. plus the geth (who have the potential to be one of the most powerful races in the milky way) may or may not still be around

so i say go early, play as an asari commando-later spectre who fights in the rachni wars, krogan rebellions, gets sorta involved in the mourning war, etc etc. but more spy stuff less run and gun

1,2 and 3 to be looked upon as part of stories believed about shepard as told to the grandchild by the grandfather, and for 4 to be told as other stories believed about shepard to the grandchild. Today people talk about jesus, and many stories related to Jesus are open to fact and myth. There is even a question if Jesus even existed. It would leave shepards whole journey open to interpretation, and allow his story to continue without contridiction. It would also mean Bioware could take the game in any direction once they have established the point that the whole story is about interpretation in the eye of the gamer. Either that or they could create new threats which sees Shepard pass on the baton to someone like Garus or another of his team.

 Mmm, possibilities are endless.

On the one hand, Post-ME1-3, ME4 would quite possibly be highly variable based on the decisions and outcomes of the previous games, which might be developer hell and gamer heaven (or hell if they try to go back through and replay the first 3 games to generate different stories in ME4).

On the other hand, pre-ME1 you get to explore a practically different universe.  Perhaps play out the Human-Turian conflict?  Become involved in various missions that led to defining the personality of Shepard (import previous ME save to get the personality profile?)

Perhaps a story running parallel to the 3 ME games where the events are either lightly touched on (perhaps some deep-space exploration or focused story in a place Shepard doesn't go or have a huge impact on), or become some other war-hero/veteran rising through the ranks and overcoming insurmountable odds to become another legend in the Reaper conflict.

Can't wait to see what comes out of bioware next:D

Dear Santa... for my next Mass Effect game, I would like...

1) The ability to skip cutscenes/autodialogue scenes, or at the very least on the second playthrough. I hated that I couldnt skip any part of the opening sequences in ME1 and ME2 and in ME3 it just got out of hand. Now we had even more sections of dialogue that were immune to the spacebar. This has always been a major gripe for me in these otherwise great games.

The opening scenes are great, but on second and third playthrough they lose their impact to the point where it becomes boring to watch, and the whole point of Mass Effect is to play it again with another class or gender for a new experience. The lack of an option to skip dialogue makes repeated playthroughs less enjoyable.

Ability/option to skip intro/tutorial mission (like Eden Prime,  Freedom's progress and Vancouver) would also be nice.

2) A return to the original inventory from ME1. The replacements in ME2 and ME3 were horrible and took the rpg out of your rpg. Bring back the system from ME1 but without the clutter of same stuff in different versions.

3) More customization options. The options in all three games still feel extremely limited. More hairstyles and face builds is sorely missed.

4) The return of vehicle/planetary exploration. I know it has been sad a bazillion times, but ME1 still stands (for me) as a vastly superior game because of the option to drive around and explore new worlds. The scanning substitute in 2 and 3 were boring and tedious.

5) To see Tali's face (Assuming she will be in the next game, which I sincerely hope).  I don't care if people will be upset over this.
The stockphoto debacle was lazy, insulting and poorly executed no matter how you spin it. It shouldnt be hard to put the beautiful visage of Liz Sroka in the game (as long as she consents of course). You did it with Miranda and the reporter that nobody liked.

6) A real quest system with the ability to track progress. The quest system in ME3 was horrible and not thought through. 'Nuff said.

Well I'd like to see the Yahg and Raloi to have big roles since they were two species that were ignored by the Reapers...Its hard for BW to take ME in the past since it's been established the Reapers won every cycle

I really don't want it to be set anytime before the trilogy. We have plenty of reading material to fill that all in. But I realize how difficult it would be to set it afterward while also accounting for everyone's choices and every ending. We don't want another Deus Ex: Invisible War on our hands after all. So, storywise, I think the best course of action is to set it waaaaaay in the future. New characters, same races, plus it gives the developers a chance to think up new races to add to the galaxy.

Might still be difficult, considering how many significant variables there are. But it could be done. Plus, it doesn't even have to be on a galactic scale. The story could be more personal this time. No need to focus on galactic security. The main character doesn't need to be some Jesus figure on first name terms with the council or anything. I'd love to see a more intimate storyline. After all, BioWare's strongest point has always been their characters.

My idea for Casey is to step down and ask Mac Walters to step down too.  Make Weekes the lead writer and give someone else in the company the job of what Casey does.

Then ask EA for a big budget and a deadline which is less than what you want but more than what they want, compromise, don't just take it up the ass from them like you have been doing.

Also my advice to Casey is to stay away from my games plz.

For years, I've been advocating a Mass Effect Tactics game - perfect genre for actions/choices/consequences roleplaying.

i was toying with the idea of having Synthisis as Canon, and you play as one of shepards Protoge's
Either Garrus (most likley as being best friends, they were like mentor and protoge)
Ash/Kaidan (which ever survived in your save or you can choose which one on a fresh play)
Liara or maybe Miranda.

and no not vega. when ever i hear freddies voice i suddenly feel like a krogan in a blood rage ready to headbutt my monitor.

Some ideas are rebuilding and nasty assassination attempts on garrus, the next primark.

or in the protheon cycle, the metacon war, play as a prothean in the run up to their extinction to ilos and javiks last moments before stasis - Zha-til sound like an intresting bad guy

I have one more idea to add the the ones I already posted here...

...More dream sequences. Much more. Moreover, maybe it would be nice idea to add to the story something similar to Fade from Dragon Age games.

Heather Cline wrote...

Casey Hudson should be taken out back of BW HQ and then kicked repeatedly in the behind and in the groin until he falls down and then kicked in the head repeatedly. He and Mac Walters single handedly destroyed the ME universe as it was known.

I suppose it's fitting. They were among those who created the ME universe. And they also destroyed it...

I don't understand how BioWare can consider making another ME game given the ending of ME3.

The future, say 50,000 years in the future.

The long lasting repercussions of the "Shepherd Effect" at the brink of what would have been the "next cycle". Deal with the possible long term decisions made at the end of the ME3 trilogy and design around that (which we were asked to choose or forced to endure - depending on your perspective) with all the technical difficulties withstanding.

Now, that sounds interesting...to me anyway.

Setting a new game that far in the future just gives them a blank canvas to introduce as much space magic as they like. No thanks.

I'm more and more coming around to the idea that they should just call it a day. Damage limitation. The ending(s) to ME3 have already soured my experience with the franchise, I don't want it completely and irrevocably ruined by another hugely disappointing game.

I personally do not want to see another mass effect game.  Even if Mass Effect "4" is awesome, who is to say by Mass effect 6 I get screwed over again by another terrible ending.  It is pretty clear nothing was learned by the current ending.   I hope people do not get sucked into the awesomeness of Mass Effect 4 and ten years later mad about the ending again.   I am sure Mass Effect 4 will be awesome to pull you back in.

I am finished with the Mass Effect universe unless they make it a new story each time.  I will never want to follow a character over 3 games and get screwed over like that again.  I have seven Shepards and I cant even get through a second playthrough of Mass Effect 3 because in the end nothing matters.  Many parts of Mass Effect 3 were great but the end voided everything from all three games for me.

Good luck to those willing to give them another chance and good luck to Bioware in continuing the universe.

Someone save my post so you can repost it in ten years when everyone is angry about the next ending. :D<3

what i dont understand is how some people keep on hitting on the ending...and then turning their backs on an awesome universe where lots more will be coming i will never understand...some people really need to get their heads out their A... . sry if it sounds rough but im tired of all these people overreacting

its just so unfair to all at BW and casey and others to mock the entire trilogy on the bases of the last 10 minutes...its about the entire journey...and even though i wasnt all happy with the ending i wont turn my back on it since i like the enire universe.

then they released the extended cut and still people are ****ing and moaning. i guess some fans are just not happy unless BW gives them EXACTLY what they wanted. Maybe since BW is giving fans what they wanted they spoiled them somehow and now they believe they can ask for what ever they want.

very unfair.

im glad casey hudson is asking for our oppinion. he doesnt need to but still does. but some fans are just to spoiled to realize it.

Thanks Casey Hudson for listening in.

ill be happy with anything new about the mass effect universe you can give me. !!!! JUST NO TIMEJUMPING OR ALTERNATIVE UNIVERSE. ITS NOT STAR TREK

Lolz.. I really wanted to write my opinions in this, but here are so much flamers (I know, a lot of you arent and just post very good ideas, so this is not for you ;D)...
Casey is the only reason why u all are here! Because he created the ME Universe (yes ALL games (1+2+3)) - think about that before you talk about "kicking".
And how did he destroye the Universe?? ME1 was a good game, ME2 was great and ME3 was even a little better, so what are u talking about? I mean compared to ME3 ME1 is like a torture (Im talking about the gameplay, Mako driving in the nowhere and useless equip). So if u enjoyed ME1 I cant understand how you cant love ME2 and 3....

Pls BW focus on the story and characters, take the gameplay from ME2/3 or better and please DONT put in boring mako driving and tons of useless equip (some is ok, but I want to "live" a story and not to collect superduper rfiles of antireaperpower lvl 10 ^^).
Everything else should be up to you. There are a lot things of interest before and while the story of the ME trilogie and there are a million ways to create a new story after the ME events.
Im sure you do the best.

Haha if I just had waited for some minutes i could have copy pastet your post gamaggedon xD.
There is something I really dont understand. If some of you wont play a new ME game anyway, why the heck do you post your ... (nonesence) in here?? It doesnt belong in this Thread, Bioware dont want to read it, and we dont want to read it either. So PLEASE just shut up, because no one cares about your problems ^^.

As an ancient astronaut theorist, I have to suggest this:

It's proposed that humanity's history goes back much further than currently believed, and that at one time in the distant forgotten past humans may have been even more technologically advanced than even now, but something happened to them that restarted everything....wait...that wouldn't fit Javik's account of humans being primitive...dang! I was gonna suggest that humanity was (almost) wiped out once before in the previous cycle...would have been epic.

Aw well, explore all possible options Casey, I'm sure you guys will come up with something pretty bad****

A lot of people have said that a sequel would require a canon ending to ME3. This isn't true. Here me out:

The Krogan
If you take the Salarians' deal, the Krogan didn't necessarily go extinct. Mordin revealed in ME2 that the Krogan are capable of adapting to and overcoming the genophage given time. If a sequel is set sufficiently far in the future, the genophage may become obsolete without a cure.

The Quarians and the Geth
If you sided with the Geth, Quarian civilians still could have escaped through the mass relay. With a sufficient population, they can regrow their numbers. If the Geth were wiped out, they could be rebuilt with different programming.

The Rachni
They've already proven they are extraordinarily resilient to extinction.

The Endings
The green lights on people's bodies can be easily handwaived into fading away over time, and the Reapers don't have to be shown if they returned to dark space or if the setting changes. With any of the endings, Reaper technology can be reverse engineered as was done with Sovereign.

The Setting
If the setting is an unexplored part of the galaxy or a different galaxy, then Bioware won't have to show the affects of the Reaper War on the galaxy at large. Lore discrepancies can be reduced to alternate dialogue and codex entries dependent on import data or a genesis-style retroactive decision-making system.

* * *

As for what I personally hope for in a sequel: a smaller scale story that is set in an as yet unexplored part of the galaxy, or another grand scale trilogy in which the inhabitants of the milky way explore another galaxy only to find aliens that were never held back by a cycle of destruction. Their technology could far outstrip even the Reapers'. Regardless of the story, I hope the dark energy plot foreshadowed on Haestrom is a key part. I also feel Shepard's and the Reapers' story has concluded definitely, and they should not be in any sequels, especially not a Shepard cameo. Shepard as a npc would feel wrong.

If we get a prequel though, I'm hoping for lots of Batarians and maybe even Cerberus in its early days.

Also, Yahg squadmate, please.
