personally i'd like to see a game set a few hundred years after te reaper war - far enough in the future to have everything near-to familiar yet close enough that technology won't have changed too much.

as a protagonist i'd like to play an asari (gets round the whole male/female protagonist debate in one solution) - and asari are close enough to humans the change won't be too jarring - and bring in a whole new threat. Plus you can have references to shepard (statues/memorials etc), the citadel over earth and possibly even run into a few of the original trilogy's chracters: liara/aria etc.

alternatively i'd love to play a game as a salarian Spectre/STG, salarians are too cool.

I might be in the minority here, but I really want a post ME 3 game. Including Shep if he survived, or a different hero if he did not. Make the players chose how ME3 ended and then let them play ( it has been doe in ME2 already where you had to chose how you handled different situations and major plot twists). Maybe after deciding how we handled ME 3 the seques would start just before the original ending? Show us what happened on the besieged Citadel, let us help C-Sec protect the civilians, let us see that all those war assets came in handy. For me that was an important piece of the story that was sadly omited. I know that the scale of the endings is really vast but I am positive it can be done. Bring back everyone form the previous installments, let us see the npc's and squadmates again. I personally would love that.

I think most of us want a post ME3 for a ME4  You're in good company!

Let me play as a Varren!! I want to play the role of a hungry varren claiming my territory to get all the females!!!!

Haha! Kidding! But I've always wanted to play a game where all I do is eat, sleep, claim territories, and mate...

But allow me the option to play as anything that isn't human, and I'll be very happy! I don't care when it takes place! It could be 1000 years to the future or the past! I'm not picky! I'm very good at making myself forget a story... But I don't want to be the one saving the world/universe... If I am, give me the option to destroy it, because I want to.

My idea borrows liberally from Wing Commander Privateer (one of my all time favs)
Set approximately 75 years later after ME3 , you play a freelance pilot who discovers an abandoned relay no one discovered before .This leads to facing either the Leviathans or some totally new threat.Along the way , you cross paths with Liara , desendants of Wrex and Eve who help and through Liara gain the mothballed Normandy back into service . Mayhem ensues.

I liked some of the Mass Shift ideas - remember, the fake "leak" about ME4?

http://social.biowar...ndex/10560313/1

It had this classic s-f vibe to it - some Dune, some Foundation, could be cool.

Start ME4 where Shepard wakes up and realizes that the entire ME3 was just a bad dream, then make ME4 without the dream kid, without the star brat, without the crucible, without Leviathan. Just Shepard uniting the galaxy and all the races fighting along side each other to win.

This.

If ME4 is going to be in the future forget about control and sintesis, go with destroy or refusal. Unless you want the burry the franchise for good.

When it comes to a new game in the ME universe there is ALLOT to choose from, here are some of my idea's:

What I would love to see is some kind of prequel to Mass Effect 1, where you play the exact opposite of Shepard. Be some kind of agent for an information broker, TIM or maybe an agent for Saren (Have him/her have an encounter with Wrex) and be able to choose between Human, Drell, Asari or Turian. Involve the Reapers somehow, import your ME1 save (backstory of your Shepard can be included somehow, I'm sure.) and voilla.

Or, have the game take place during, or at the end of the first contact war, (as the start would be kind of boring as you can only get human squadmembers.)

The game can also take place pre-ME3 until the end of ME3.
For me this would be the perfect setting, as you have the reapers involved, it is war, enjoy more epic battles on a grand scale and you can import your ME2 and 3 game data, which could impact the game.
It will end with the choice you made it ME3 but from a whole other viewpoint. Maybe in space.

Yes I know everybody here would like to have some kind of real-time space battle.

As for any game after ME3, it would be logical to make a game on a smaller scale, like, again, being an agent of someone with power. Aria or something. Have an underground plot with some references as to what is happening out there (again, you can make good use of save data here.) and so on.
You could even make it 5 years later, and have something else threaten the galaxy. Like Dark matter for instance...

Warning !!!
The Following Comment may contain spoilers related to the Mass Effect Games or
the Mass Effect Novels. Please only continue reading if you have already
enjoyed these masterpieces.

I consider myself as one of the biggest Mass Effect Fans in Germany and I have really
enjoyed all the Games and novels. And although the original ending of ME3
created a little WTF moment I consider it as an Epic conclusion to a trilogy
that will be remembered.

In most cases I'm not a real friend of prequels but in the case of Mass Effect  I think that it would fit. Many other games
just create a story set some years before the time of the events the player
knows and no one would have bothered if these stories were told or not.

But in the Mass Effect Universe these stories already exist and I think many of them are
worth to be told in my opinion. For example the First jump through a mass relay
and the First contact war between the turians and humans. These stories were
already mentioned throughout all the games and novels. We all know how it
worked out in the end but we dont really know how it began. And hey , Star Wars
made 3 new movies and tons of games out of that.

Or a story parallel to ME3 set on earth telling the story of Anderson and maybe Cones (this sniper
guy from the teaser ) during the Reaper Attack. This would offer many ways of
how to set the gameplay. A more Action based third person or even first person
would fit perfectly for this scenario if its combined with already known and
loved aspects of Mass Effect. The possibility to decide. The player could
decide whether to draw  his troops back or
stay to fight. And these are just my first ideas I have for this scenario. A
open world with light strategy components would be possible or even a competitive
multiplayer putting alliance forces against reaper forces. And due to the fact
that Harbinger leads the attack you can logically assume that on earth more
different reaper forms were used than on other planets on Shepards mission.
That would make new possibilities to implement new enemies who are set against
the players.
Or a whole other Genre for example a space combat game or vehicle fights as a whole.

But even after all the possibilities of making a new character in a whole new story, which
worked well in the novels and Kahhlee Sanders for example ,I think that there
are still many opportunities to bring Shepard back. I grow up with Star Trek ,
Star Wars and Stargate and so I know that there many possibilities to bring
him/her back without making it appear ridicules. At least I think that new
adventures with Shepard would be possible if the stories treat for example
topics like , "Who build the reapers ? And now that they're gone or out of
control will someone notice it  and take
actions  ?  What about the univerese without the relays?
What about the technology the reapers left in one way or the other ? And what
about other radical groups beside Cerberus ? "

Let us choose the main character's race, like Dragon Age 1. I'd like to play as an asari. =)

And make the female character the canonical one this time. =^_^=

Fast forward twenty years into the future of ME. The Reapers have been dealt with, the Citadel has been rebuilt along with the relays, and the original crew is still around although a bit grayer. The galaxy has caught its breath and the Council rules over a somewhat serene galaxy with the exception of the Terminus systems that have returned to their old ways.

Omega is still a den of thieves and Aria rules there as dominantly as ever as pirate queen of the Terminus. As she takes a sip of her drink she begins to think about the past. She bristles as her thoughts recall the Illusive Man and how he had manipulated her so well. Yet despite her intense hatred, when her thoughts turn to Shepard she can't help, but to give just a hint of a smile, "Of all the governments and mercs in the galaxy only Shepard saved our asses." Her reverie is broken when the station's general alarms sound and Omega shudders.

Her eyes widen and Aria utters, but a single astonished word "Goddess!" Omega explodes into thousands of bits of debris, twisted and burned tech, and millions of bodies are incinerated and ripped apart in the blast. The first move in ME4 has been made. What happens now? How will the Council react? Will the ripples of this event be the clarion call to action? What will be the response? Who is behind this and what are their motivations? Was this a terror attack or something far worse?

It is the questions that will drive the game with the answers being unlocked by gameplay.

^Would Shepard be the protagonist in that or not? Because its still plausible that he would be since he is the pinnacle of health and he would still be what in his mid 40's?

^^ Knightnblu, that was quite a well-written teaser! Have you given it any more thought or are you just looking to spark some ideas in others? ;) although, I have to question the notion that there is a million people on Omega :P still, would love to hear if you had any answers to the questions you put forth... :innocent:

I definitely wouldn't mind fighting a terrorist organisation in the Terminus systems. Anything that's not a new and even more superior enemy than the Reapers :)

Early 50s, in fact, but that might still be a fit age in the 22nd century when humans can live well past 100 years of age, so who knows :P

That sounds like an excellent idea.  Even if BioWare wants to explore a completely different, non-Shepard related story for the next game (which I'd certainly still be interested in), this would be something good to have on the agenda, or at least considered as a possibility.

As far as a brand new game, if it's something that runs concurrently with the original trilogy, I'd definitely recommend some tangential tie-ins with some of the characters we already know and love, especially if it still imported some of the choices that were made and had those characters act according to those choices.  Not so much that it's a direct tie-in, just enough to give the long-time fans that warm fuzzy feeling of nostalgia.

Yeah, Mass Effect: Origins (RPG/third-person shooter like ME1-3) is fine by me. But I suppose it would be too costly to create such a game, particularly if the main character should be fully voiced.

I really want another ME RPG trilogy, set AFTER ME3 and with a new hero we can customize like Shep and transfer throughout 3 games.

 Well here is my idea,

set 300 years after the reapers have been destroyed, the citadel is the centre of the galaxy, the council is in session the galaxy is in turmoil,

Asari councillor "the krogan are breeding too fast and are invading other territories"

turian councillor "well a human caused this mess lets make then clean it up"

back on earth -

"get up soldier, you want to complete the N7 programme? You want to be the next Shepard? Get up!"

from here you control a rookie N7 agent and find out on a mission that the krogan plan on taking over the citadel and declaring their dominance on the universe, the council make you a spectre and want you to stop the krogan you have to ally with the rachni and create another war,

During this time the salarians are acting strange, an orb is seen in a lab and the salarians are creating AI, the end of game 1 in the trilogy

There were many good ideas what the Mass Effect 4 game could be, but maybe its also worth to think a bit about  what Mass Effect 4 should not be:
  • Mass Effect 4 should not include more action than Mass Effect 3
  • Mass Effect 4 should not be an  MMORPG
  • Mass Effect 4 should not include a multiplayer option
  • ...

Yeah, some of those ideas were good. Though half of them relied on the indoctrination theory.

Here's my idea for a sequel:
Now that most of the galaxy is at relative peace, the question lingers... what else is out there? You will act as the leader of an alliance funded expedition and take your squad to the edges of known space and beyond to discover what exists in the shadows. You may not like what you find.

Assuming the main ME trilogy is analogous to the main Halo trilogy and equivelent to ODST or Reach would be cool.

As in the protagonist not being directly connected to Shepard but rather a relative no name supporting character with a neat personal story, could be set at any time period be it during the trilogy/Immediently after ME3/way after/ the first contact war. you name it.

more customization would be nice since to be honest I feel like there are a few versions of the character that is Shep as oppossed to Shep being an avatar to represent me personally.

I would like it to span from ME1 to 3, with the climax at the Reaper war. You would be able to chosse between Human, Turian, Quarian, Asari, Salarian and Krogan. You would be able to fine-tailor the characters within the species' background and major skills. For each species, a separate character background and missions would be available, but all of them would integrate in to Sheppard's story and we would meet most of the main characters. The climax would be during the Reaper war, where you would fight the Reapers at your homeworld, each species a different set of missions. Not just the regular Reaper folks we've been introduced, but new reaperized types and as bosses, the Reapers themselves. You would have, for example, to infiltrate and sabbotage a Reaper processor as a Salarian. Each species would have as mission, destroy a Reaper boss in diferent ways.

The game would check your Sheppards and adjust the background, for new players, it would allow them to choose decisions. Some time ago I imagined it as centered on Omega. The player would arrive and start working for Aria. A number of missions would be common to all species, so we could, for example, help her handling the Collectors and later  escaping from Cerberus. Omega, as an intersection, would be perfect to integrate the new game with the previous ones. If you are Krogan, you would help Malon set his lab at Tuchanka while keeping things hidden from Mordin; if you are Salarian, help Mordin setting up his lab and fight mercs.

Once you beated the Reaper boss at your homeworld, Sheppard's final act has its effects. Little if any continuity problems.

Prequels usually suck IMHO, so I'd rather not see an younger Sheppard. Yes, a game based on the first contact war would be cool, but IMHO not enough options for choices between species. The Rachni-Krogan wars would also be a good choice, but I bet many would complain about humans not being an option.
