if they don`t care about our ideas there wouldn`t be such a thread - and if you are right? then you comment doesn`t make sense because you are still HERE.
WHY are you still here in this forum then me3 is sooo bad and you don`t want a new mass effect game? it doesn`t make sense.

back to topic:
I would lik to see the new game with a new engine...the unreal 3 engine is getting old and as i believe Mass Effect 3 reaches the limits of it.
After my opinion the new game doesn`t need high end graphics like Crysis 2/3 or Battlefield 3 (and destruction is nice but windows would be enough :) ) but a new engine would be nice (i don`t want to see Mass Effect in a few years at the point there the CoD series is now:crying:!) and would give more possibilities like a larger multplayer
(more players, bigger maps and perhaps pvp:lol:) or larger maps (only necessary if it becomes a more open-world game).
But the important thing is:
there are many games with mind-blowing graphics out there but only few with such a good story and characters...

why dont you all just make a "I hate Hudson" thread get all your anger out and leave this thread to people who want to give ideas.

Edit:

Honestly I don't want to play a mass effect pre triology game, dont really care that much about the first contact war or the Krogan rebelions. Honestly just dont care about them.

But makeing a game post Triology will be really hard considering all the variables. (well, only like what 10 at most) but still

If we must have more ME games, make something on a smaller scale. Say a single pre or early-spaceflight world, with the aid of a small team from the Citadel races, struggling to figure out how to combat a lone Reaper and its minions. The team could be soldiers, or even just a contact team sent to visit the world by the Council, but with very bad timing. They are entirely cut off from any outside support. Somehow this team and the new species must work together and find a way to defeat the Reaper. End the game before Shepard has her chat with the Catalyst, whether in victory over the single Reaper, or destruction.

Though I'd really rather they just walked away from the ME universe. A prequel doesn't sound all that interesting, and a sequel is going to force them to choose a canon ending for ME3, which would antagonize many people.

Instead, give us a new space game, heavy on exploration, with genuinely alien aliens and no FTL travel.
I'm not holding my breath, though.

I understand if some people care, but I am no longer interested. I find the endings tolerable as the overall conclusion, yet they are still a textbook exercise in how to kill a franchise in 20 minutes.

oh, and just one thing I'd like to see return. When my PC is on a hub, I'd like to have the companions come with me. I'd like to hear them having banter. Lots and lots of banter. About where they are. About each other, whatever.

I liked that better than the way it was in ME3. Having the squaddies run off and do their own thing on a hub sounded like a cool idea, but in game I found I didn't really care for that set up.

And if they don't have anything new to say, I won't have to waste my time running all over the Citadel only to hear them say, "Hello, Shepard."

I want a game where we chose one of the current races to play as and they have their own unique or slightly unique story.

I'm still disappointed with Mass Effect 3, so I can only suggest you remake that one. It's not going to happen, but it's the only thing I want to see happen. I honestly don't see the use of another game if it doesn't address previous flaws.

Plot Themes

Whilst I enjoyed the ending post EC I do feel the plot missed a trick and copped out on its big reveal.

I was certain, up until the Catalyst’s speech, that the Reapers actually existed to exterminate dominant organic races before they grew too powerful and arrogant which was epitomised in the Illusive Man. Their self-importance derived from their technological power eventually resulting in enslavement or genocide of less advanced species.

The Catalyst was going to be a collective hive-mind of ‘Self-Reaperised’ races subjugated by the Leviathans, who actually sacrificed themselves to take down the dominant organic species and free others from servitude.

Knowing that another dominant species would eventually rise they started the cycles to harvest civilisations that reached the point of technological superiority over all others and any similarly advanced species to prevent them filling the power vacuum left behind.

So the Prothean’s having an Empire kicked off the last cycle and the Genophage kicked off preparations for this one. This would also help to explain the Mass Relays and it let the Catalyst predict or even monitor the technological progress of new species whilst putting the off switch in their control.

I feel the next Mass Effect would do well if it explored these themes of ‘god-like’ power in the hands of mortal beings, decisions and actions of someone with a relatively transient lifespan having consequences for millennia, getting to the true “Mass Effect” of your actions. Perhaps this could tie back in with the deeds of the player’s Shepard making them reflect on the choices they made in the original trilogy whilst simultaneously moving on
with the new themes of the sequel.

A good start point here could be the Alliance close to breaking point due to war with other races or acts of subversion such as the Genophage. With few options left Cerberus rears its head again offering a way out with their Reaper tech or other unscrupulous methods.

Perhaps the player could in fact be the leader or this new Cerberus, the next Illusive Man, desperate to save humanity at the cost of their own morals with a potential trilogy following this format.

First Game: The player assembles the core of the new Cerberus from splinters of the Alliance in response to its impending doom or problems. Similar to Cerberus in ME1

Second Game: Elaborate and expand on the core group making it into true organisation similar to Cerberus in ME2 with the player now having a greater role in Galactic Affairs and not just those of the Alliance. At this point they would begin to direct the organisation as for or against other
species as well.

Third Game:  With a full strength Cerberus as their disposal the player has resources and power like never before and must decide how to wield it in the face of a new threat to the galaxy.

Features

More customisation is always welcome. More colour points on the armours, open and close visors etc.

Space itself never really featured at all. A spacewalk scenario or ship to ship combat in ME4 would be great.

Add more flexibility to the core classes at creation over just the bonus power such the option for Jetpacks, the latest MP DLC made these essential!

Maybe a competitive multiplayer similar to Counterstrike (no respawns with rounds) in addition to the current co-op modes.

Just do a Metal Gear Solid and keep Hale and Meer as the main voice actors!

The ideal would be for ME4 to not exist, and if it did went through Hudson not being involved. Unfortunetly, both those things are impossible...

So, I would stick to the basics:

-Do not sell out your characters. To give a accurate body and face model to a IGN chick who nobody gives a crap about(that replaced a beloved character killed on twitter trololol), and not have the decency of putting some work towards the face of a beloved character, that´s just sad.

-see more fan reviews of movies you decide to rip off. Riping off the Matrix Reloaded and the Matrix Revolutions with the Architect plot point is just not smart considering the backlash that emerged in 2003. And in that movie they gave a whole movie to warm to the idea.

They have this beautiful vast universe that we have only touched the surface of so the scope for future games is boundless. I think I'd prefer a. prequel based trilogy that focuses in depth on one area of the ME universe. It could concentrate on a specific race or a specific conflict.

Another idea, and I apologise if this has already been suggested would be to make a single game with a new central player character set on Earth that covers the final ME3 battle of the reaper invasion. People have complained that their choices weren't reflected upon and their war assets weren't utilised. Well now, the game would start with the reapers arriving on Earth and you'd import your ME3 save from the point prior to the Cerberus HQ assault. You'd team up with Anderson as an alliance soldier as part of the hammer resistance and have control over all of the war assets that Shepard has gathered. You'd also team up with some or all of the ME2 characters and all of the choices you made in the first 3 ME games would impact upon this new game. You wouldn't meet Shepard directly but maybe he/she would show up during cutscenes etc. Okay it may be an action shooter based game but all of your actions over the ME3 trilogy could be brought in to play. This may be a great way to finally close out the ME3 story?

If this new "full game" is not concluded as depressingly (or at least have the option for it not to) as Mass Effect 3 then I'm game. Really though, I'd like it to be set maybe a few decades (50 years or so) or maybe a century after the original trilogy.

As for the setting, I would love to see a sort of "golden age" of space exploration, maybe technology has finally evolved in a way that allows us to travel to other galaxies. We take control of an explorer (so as to change the formula of being a badass space marine) and move throughout the new galaxy in search of new civilizations, technology and species.

It would be a fresh take on the series and could make for some pretty interesting gameplay mechanics. I'm thinking Skies of Arcadia-meets-Mass Effect, with more depth to your crew, love interests and friends. You could also have access to tactics that a space marine like Shepard&Co. wouldn't use. The squad orders could be expanded to instead of just commanding them to attack or move, you could have them perform specific tasks like setting traps for enemies, charging at an enemy fortification, provide covering fire while drawing attention to themselves giving you the opportunity to flank the enemy position, and these actions would vary depending on you and your team's classes.

I would also love some melee weapons, not like the Omni-Blade, but actual melee weapons. Knives and stuff, that you can actually equip and use. Also, the possibility of directing your squad to certain tasks during missions. Like the SM in ME2 but more present throughout the story.

Armor would have to come back as well but as in an actual RPG. Gloves and stuff that you can mix and match by getting more and more tech points (these could be scientists, armorers or tech experts, like Quarians) which would grant you access to new gear.

I'll end this concept firing line now, sorry if it's too long :P

I never considered this option until recently, but it would actually fit Mass Effect 3 quite well.

Please no prequels. Prequels never really seem to work out in my opinion and the plot will be constrained to a set outcome. I would much rather see a game set in the relative distant future with galactic civilization pretty much back to normal where you play as a spectre (race is choose able if possible) and get to explore the universe. The mass effect universe is huge and wonderful and I would really like to see all of the different planets without being on a mission of dire importance all the time. ME1 and ME2 did this rather well what with Noveria, Illium, and Omega. I would also like for more focus on the fact that you would be a specre, this is something that was completely dropped after ME1 and was something that kinda upset me. I liked the feel of you being an agent for the galaxy; to accept missions from the council that helped better the galaxy. Basically I want a game where I get to explore the vast universe that is Mass Effect.

How about you Mr.Hudson never never write again another part of the mass effect series?

Are you a Writer? No. Your formation is artistic. Stick to your area of domain.

At this time, we already know that...

I get the feeling a new ME game could work only if you pull a Dune, that is throw the story 10 000 years into the future.

1. Don't do a prequel, set the game decades into the future.
2. If you think you are taking a risk with an idea, throw that idea out the window and go even crazier.
3. Two words: Space Combat... I'll let that sink in.

Edit:

Oh and use the Frostbite Engine. A ME game with destructible enviorments sounds awsome!

Is this a co-operative now between BioWare and the gamers? Or are BW going to make us pay for our own ideas? I'd already thought about this with the EC and recent MP additions.

Why does Casey Hudson want feedback from people? He shoudl have asked for feedback about the ME3 ending before he and Mac Walters decided to lock themselves up and write a crappy ending. I dont trust them with another ME game...just end the franchise.

I'm quite glad to see that people have not forgotten Hudsons role.

What I want to happen for ME4 is:
- Casey Hudson apologies for lying to customers and will not talk publicly from there on.
- Casey Hudson stays away from any artistic decision during the project.
- Casey Hudson has no say in who gets what position in the company.
- Story writing is logically solid and coherent. No more rule of cool, forced twists, broken logic, neglecting facts from just a couple of pages earlier etc. People who are not willing to write logically solid and coherent are either forced to do so or removed from the team.
- Demoting Mac Walters to support writer for side-quests.
- Stop focusing on humans as the supreme race and earth as center of the galaxy. I find Sci-fi cool when it's about aliens, space and vast epicness. Glorifying humans: not cool.
- Retcon the main plot from ME3 (and ME2 while you are on it) out of existence. Especially everything about crucible and catalyst. Just do yourself the favour and never mention it again, ever.
- Find a story that is not centered around a villain and a hero and shooting as main solution to conflict.
- Find a story that is about ancient things in the galaxy and uncovering cool aliens. A conflict that can only be solved by uniting the galactic races and finding old artefacts and discovering their purpose. Pretty much like the Reaper threat but with a clever resolution instead of the crucible-catalyst debacle. In short: Make this not a game about war but a game about exploring the galaxy to find a solution for an interesting conflict.
- Focus on interesting alien races and their connection among each others. Remember: for many players running around the citadel in ME1 is one of the most memorable moment in the franchise. Because it was not just about humans. Because it was full of cool aliens which had real and believable personalities and we as player felt like a part of that colourful scene.
- Make it more rough and gritty as a setting with a protagonist who has to decide about his/her behavior in morally grey areas.
- No more Paragon = good, Renegade = self centered genocidal jerk. Free moral choices from that mould to make them more believable.
- No more cleavage in space. Give the crew proper suits and helmets.

I'd love to play a game that takes place entirely on Earth, during the Reaper invasion. You start out as a civilian who has to take up arms and ends up working alongside Anderson. There would be a great opportunity to start at nothing and build up to Anderson's right hand, and we could see more of the devastation of Earth. They could explain more about why London in particular was so important, while they're at it.

I'm thinking of how Valve did the Opposing Forces and Blue Shift games after Half Life and before Half Life 2. Both of those were smaller in scope and they revolved around the same conflict time period of Half Life w/ Freeman cameos. I don't know if those could apply to ME universe. It would be interesting for nostalgia sake but it could also be viewed as milking the Shepard trilogy one more time.
