i said it before.
me 4 must be set after me3 its more rom for new things,
a prequel is a bad idea as most things is covered by comics, novels and other media
squadmates backstorys are not intresting enogh for a game and it is mostly already explaned to us

Only if you consider the books'n'comics as canon and part of the lore. I don't, especially since the last book was violating the lore a lot. ;)

But I concur: please no prequel. I disliked it in Star Trek (Enterprise / the new movie) and I won't like it in Mass Effect.

as for me 4 the basic requirements is you have to have a ship, squadmates, same or better dialoge/morality/squademate system and rpg elements and a standard or improved mass effect galaxy traveling system with lots of hub and exploration worlds

Aye.

thigs i wish to see but not expect:

abilety to choose race atleast counsil races.

Okay, 'though only Asari and Humans are interesting when it comes to "romantic interaction content". Turians are able to do so, but I doubt BW wants to show us a naked Turian. And Salarians are a race of asexuals - they do it only for procreation and don't have a concept for romantic love.

the mako returns XD.

With the option to upgrade it's armor, shields, weapons ... yes!

if the game is a prequel and is sett around 100 years after me3

Not that important - 10, 20 years later are interesting as well. I'd love to see the time period right after the war: the galaxy must be a huge version of the "Wild West" since the lack of a proper military presence of each government. Very tempting time.

the abilety if possible to play as shepards decentans or shepard and liaras asari daughter

Well - only if you imported a savegame with Liara as LI. For everyone else: no, just no. I don't want Liara be the only returning squadmate or something.

nice to se someone likes it.

i love the upgradeble mako idea,
i agree that running around as a krogan looking for hanky panky action is a little wierd,
i agree that the latest novel is not to be considered part of the universe until corected.

and for the option to play as shepards kid might be difficult since the only romances a kid can be produced is with another human or liara since shes the only asari romance in the games, and the difference of years that it takes for those two species to grow up is almost a 100 years but i think that a 40 year old asari was shoping for weapons to become a merc on ilium in me2 so it might be less for them to grow up.
and if this option is included in the game this might dictate how long after me3 the game is set but still its only a sugjestion and bioware statet they dont want a shepard 2.0 and a kid of shepard probably will be exactly that

- Play as another races. More customization.
- Play as a rogue character instead of a galactic hero. I want something inspired in Farscape or Firefly where the hero and his partners are considered outlaws and they have all sort of weird adventures.
- Choose your path. Do you want to be a good character or a ruthless space pirate? That should be up to the player.

That sounds particularly fun.

ANYTHING but a prequel. For the love of god, please no prequel. I don't care about what happened in the past. I want to see the universe after ME3. We already know the conclusion of what happens in past conflicts.

Also, more control over my PC and less autodialogue please. I don't like it when my Shep says things without my input...

What would i like in Mass Effect 4? Less EA bullying Bioware into shoving the game out the door prematurely. The only reason ME3 was full of plotholes was because of that.

How about ditching the paragon/renegade system and make the decision making action/consequence based as in leave the whole paragon/renegade implied.
There are times when options should step on a grey area.
Also, please make the choices of dialogue actually be what it says it is. There were so many times when I would chose a dialogue option and what shep would say wouldn't be even close to what the description said.
And yes please play as different races, that would be kick ass.
Also, am I the only one who enjoyed exploring around with the mako? you know when there was actually something in the map to explore.
Exploration please, exploration.

For me, I do not want a silent protagonist. The fact that Shepard had a voice made the conversations and dialogue much more engaging for myself. However, I assume this would be nearly impossible if the option to choice your race was implemented, So I personally hope they keep the playable character a human only option.

i doubt very much that this will be read but here goes

1 sequel not in terms of story but in terms of time frame

2 me1/2 dialogue

3 closure for shep. i dont need him to be the main character but i would like some level of acknowledgement that he survived

I REALLy like the ideas that some people have mentioned: A firefly or playing as a merc type game & character. More exploration (and mako-like play). Multiple species as main character. More RPG! Combat and stuff of ME3 with the exploration of ME1.

Voicing the main character works for a highly scripted, linear story, but makes role play much more difficult. It is also why the dialogue wheel has to try to summarize the lines into a phrase or less (and can sometimes end up being nothing like you expected based off of the couple words).

And so what if they need several voice actors for a large part of the game, versus just two. Let them hold off on finishing the game for an extra year. I'm fine with that.

I'd rather have more options and better role play for my character than the ability to hear a character's voice IMHO. And no, please no human only option, I want to play MY character, not control the demeanor of BW's character.

@Grammaton Dryad

You make some valid points. As to the human only option, I am not saying I don't want other races to be excluded, but that I would personally sacrifice the ability to play as different races in order to get a voiced main character. But like you said, it might not even matter if they can voice all character options.

or, you know, use a good universal voice for each gender (Steve Blum for Males) and add the sound effects on their voices for certain species (Turians) and add a few lines hear and there based on species (SWTOR did it)

bam, multiple species without the work of recording multiple voice actors voice work. (although to be fair Saints Row 3 had 3 different voices for each gender plus zombie.....so Bioware could do it if they REALLY wanted to)

I doubt the developers will care what I say after almost 70 pages in this thread, but just in case they do see this:

-I don't think it should be a prequel. We all saw what happened with the Star Wars prequels. It is too limiting and given the ending many people will argue that it is "meaningless" and won't play it. I don't necessarily agree but I think its better to just go beyond what we already have.

- Set the game centuries into the future.

-It'd be neat if we could choose to play a different race other than human. The great thing about Mass Effect is the universe, the lore, the characters, the races and factions. You guys really need to emphasize those things. Letting people play as another race would give the world more depth and also replay value! If you could choose your race, it would open up various opportunities in the story that would let you side with different factions and such. It would be really cool.

- Make the appearance of the character more customizable. I'd like to see cooler hair for the characters.

-We really don't need an MMO, please.

-I'd love to have more exploration. Lots of side quests. Lots of secrets to uncover. Let us go to Palaven, Thessia, Omega and so on. Give us a better vehicle than the Mako though.

-I think it would be interesting to have a main character that was NOT a space marine. Maybe a mercenary? A pirate? or an assassin?

A few thoughts:

More open/explorable worlds like in ME1. For example, hub worlds like the Citadel, Omega, Thessia, being big, and fully explorable. Someone in this thread mentioned the idea of slowly making the hub worlds bigger via DLC, which I think would be a fantastic idea. Slowly open up more of these worlds, with each new DLC pack filled with new people to talk to and get side quests from. And while the rapid transit was indeed nice, I love that in ME1 you have to get in your car and drive to some of these places. That's definitely something that I'd like to see come back.

Different playable races would be fun, however not at the cost of the overall story of the game. The thing that I love most about all three Mass Effect games is the focus on telling the story. So many games are either A: so focused on action that the story becomes little more than a set-up for the next action set-piece, or B: So focused on complete and total customization that it becomes impossible to truly *tell* a story. Mass Effect and it's sequels managed to avoid this. So different races: Yes please. But only if it can be done in a way that allows you folks to tell a compelling story.

I love the combat system of ME2/3, something that I'm especially discovering as I am now going back and re-playing ME1. So more exploration/open-world-ness like ME1, but the awesome combat and inventory system of ME2/3. I know tons and tons of people posting before me have said this already, but I figure repetition is the best way to get BioWare's attention.

Also, please please make ME4 a sequel to ME3 and *NOT* a prequel. I realize that from a writing ((and budget)) standpoint this would be difficult, what with four very different potential endings to ME3, but please...please please: No. Prequel. Perhaps have the story center around time travel at certain points (big bad guy wanting to reshape the universe in his/her image) as a fun way to explore events like the first contact war, while still allowing the game to be a direct sequel to ME3.

EDIT: Or, use an ME3 type multiplayer mode to explore past events in the Mass Effect universe, with different character types representing the different points in history.

Make Liara's child a teammate. If she was LI in ME3, make it Shep's kid.

Include a Shepard statue in ME4.

This is just a little detail which I think many of us would appreciate.
Include a statue in memorial of Shepard, which uses our ME3 save data to make it look like our hero in ME3.
Nothing too hard to implement, but it should give the player a sense of achievement.

Examine your feelings, I am your father...

It would be great if the protagonist was the son/daughter of Shepard and his LI and if which LI you chose
would determine the looks of the character. While this is a MAJOR factor in creating a game I believe the ME universe would greatly benefit from it and add tremendous replay value to all ME games.
Also having to fit in Shepards way too big footsteps would be a great backstory for any struggling main character.

Don't rush the game through development and put it on the market before it is completed.

Protagonist being a part of Shepard's bloodline is something I wouldn't mind seeing, EmperorZorn, but how would you explain said child if a Shepard wasn't romancing anyone?

ME:Origins. You pick your race (human, batarian, turian, asari, salarian, quarian, krogan, etc), your origins (spacer, colonist, earthborn) your gender, and customize how they look. Then you'll play through a unique 'origin' for your race, followed by a grand and epic story across the stars. Fighting pirates and mercenaries, mutated beasts and corrupt politicians, to save something a lot smaller than the universe... Been there, done that...
