I'd say it should be Shepard again, NO prequel, no matter what has happened, Bioware built a great universe with Mass Effect and has plenty of stories that can be told.

Going around as an S.T.G. Agent or Spectre messing with Galactic Politics C.I.A. style would make for a fun game.

Somehow your post reminded me of the League of One.

They could make "Shepard" an honorary name given to the highest-ranking Spectre or something...  So that some other character could carry the name.

Gross. I don't want other characters to carry on the name of my character. Only my love interest would be allowed to name his or her child after my character. Shepard was a key character of this universe, I don't see any other character taking his identity or title and show it off to the other NPCs.

Unless ME4 is set a 1000 years after ME3, I'm not really interested. Shepard and his friends/crewmates are what made me love the game. For me personally, I'm still peeved that Shepard didn't walk away from the rubble, see his crew, and embrace his LI. I still feel like Bioware (or whats left of it) isn't using the creative process that drew us into the universe. So I can't get behind this.

What.

I don't want one.

There are too many loose ends with this trilogy. Can't we just finish out Shepard's story properly and leave it at that?

Something more adventure-based with puzzles and more investigation. As Shepard I loved running around collecting clues, interrogating people and putting the pieces together to find a culprit to a crime or lost artifacts... Even if sometimes I had to look online for wiki articles but that's part of the fun.

RPG's are fine, action is fine... but in the long haul we remember the cinematics, the conversations and the character-building experiences (some drama, a bit of romance, politics...). Those are the things that make us love any series.

Would still be your custom char.  Could make him/her look exactly the same if you want... uncanny likeness.  Also keep in mind that even Shepard was given the title of "The Shepard."  So the new char could be called "Shepard" in reference to that.  Doesn't have to get the first name.

Indeed. Added this additional tidbit to my post:

Given ME3's ending, any idea for a follow-up is grasping at straws... unfortunatelyImage IPB

I really enjoyed the series, so i would like you to not stray to far from the concept. I personaly like to pause while making my descisions and the game cannot be tactical enough (me 3 was to easy) more and better control over my companions would be appreciated.

no prequel please!!!

no sequence!!!

just a new story based on wich ending we choose on ME 3

the story would take place on a new galaxy.

or a new story could take place during the mass effect events and we could see what happened to the galaxy based on shep ending

Call it "Mass Effect: Spectre". Human, Salarian and Asari are your starting race options. Each has an 'Act One' on their respective homeworlds. After they prove themselves, they are taken to the Council for Spectre testing and training.

Make it incredibly RPG'ish. Have different quest lines based on your species. Have the overarching plot be a bit more sneaky and have your character put in less of a spotlight. Start with a small 2-person ship and as you progress and gain allies, you get bigger ships.

Different companions for each race with a few of the same ones running through each Species Arc.

that is the best idea Ive heard i would really play a game like that sound s like the original bioware games like jade empire

I dunno how you can expand a universe after altering it like that...

Prequels don't really interest me that much. Want something different.

Take Casey Hudson off of Mass Effect. That ship has sailed or hit an iceberg, if it was sailing in the Atlantic. (It was made in Canada, I think we all know it hit an Iceberg.)
But Really, EA owns many great properties, take Hudson and give him Wing Commander!

He has skills, he's made some great games. Wing Commander is due a return, and even if the EA suits decide to force the olden sci-fi IP into the first person shooter mold, Casey might be able to pull it off and win some of us back. He sure as hell won't win me back by making another Mass Effect.

Casey Hudson made some great games, and one horrible one. His best games are standalones, bring him back to the standalone damnations! Just in case this is ever read by Hudson himself, don't ever juxtaposition the ending of another game into one of yours again. Many of us have probably played it, and I know I only needed to experience Deus Ex once. Enough Said.
Peace Out Forum Goers', we're likely the only ones to ever read this PR spread.

Could a flight sim work with crappy console controllers?

Really? ... Ok.

I kind of want something different than ME trilogy (ie something that is not third person shooter). I want them to go ... whatever. Clean slate, but that explores ME universe a bit more. Another hero? More focus on a specific race? A time period or era?

I'm not a huge RTS fan, but a ME RTS would be interesting since the theme of war has been prominent so far.

I suppose I'll reduce my thoughts to a short list

-No Prequel. I want to see what happens after the events of ME3.

-Use ME3's gameplay as a foundation. By all means, expand on it, add to it, and evolve, like you did between ME2 and 3 but the third person shooter+RPG combo *is* Mass Effect at this point. If you want to make an FPS or something, that'd be cool, just save it for a spin-off.

- Give us more control over the protagonist. Don't go with as much of a pre-defined background. Let us chose our species. Let us play not just a human, but a turian, krogan, asari, drell quarian, or even a batarian or a geth. Include females from species like Turians this time, and make them playable too! :D You could use the origin stories model from DA:O to introduce the player character. Make it so I can start a human as either an alliance or cerberus operative, for example.

But really let us define who the PC is. Leave it up to me how my character acts and thinks, let me figure out his ideals, morals, goals and wants.

Take the visual and arsenal/powers customization we had in ME3 and continue to add to it. More armor, more colors, more guns and more mods! Let us custom color our guns this time. I want a shiny chrome Revenant this time! :) More power evolutions!

-No MMO. However, I would love to see a story-driven, co-op multiplayer campaign based on what you started with the ME3 multiplayer. It's very fun, just take the next step :)

-Re-imagine the core 6 classes. Include specializations, using what you did in ME3 multiplayer DLC as an inspiration. Let us chose to play a sword wielding shadow, or an elite tactical sniper within the infiltrator class. Let Vanguards chose to be an unstoppable shotgun tank, or a teleporting Slayer who hits and runs and looks very cool doing it.

Let us really customize our combat playstyle. I imagine a BSN where amazing new build demonstrations are the norm. Keep me theory-crafting for months after release!

More Shepard: sequel, prequel, or do a game between ME2 and ME3 with a bit of retconning. Or a game starring Garrus or something.

Please don't go 1000 years in the future.
