1. It must not be a prequel, that would be a huge cop out and nobody is really interested in going backwards

2. An entirely new cast, new crew, and a new ship to go along with it. Preferably a new class of ship at well, I think another frigate would just feel like Normandy 2.0

3. Import your ending, but take place far enough in the future the game can still be coherent regardless of what you chose. The only real hurdle is Synthesis, and that could be handled by just throwing in some dialogue now and then relevant to it.

4. If you're going to keep insisting on multiplayer, give us a co-op campaign.

Remember ME1 when on Ilos where the AI Virgil said that the reaper are only servants to the pattern
meaning that reapers are just servants and their masters are still out there

Choices that actually have proper consequences throughout the whole series of games. Not the pseudo choice system where at the conclusion of the trilogy we pretty much get a predetermined, lackluster conclusion to a story that we've invested hundreds of hours in.

Combat system - no further move to change ME combat into more of a shooter than it already is. IMO combat in ME3 is as far in that direction as it should go. Would rather see the ME3 combat system enhanced with more RPG elements, rather than have it further devolve into a Gears of War clone.

Definitely don't want a story/setting anywhere post ME3. The atrocious endings in ME3 pretty much destroyed the ME universe as a viable setting for future games set in that timeline. Prequel, parallel universe/alternate reality or at most running concurrent to the ME1-ME3 timelines, but absolutely not after the conclusion of ME3.

Ability to play something other than human. A Dragon Age: Origins approach to character selection and prologue stories, even if it's scaled down, would be awesome.

And finally, and personally I think this should be the most important aspect - Release a properly completed game. Don't release another game where it's glaringly obvious that content got dropped and shortcuts were taken just to get the product out the door. Yes, I'm referring not only to the poor Photoshop job that served as the big Tali reveal in ME3, but also how obvious it was in DA2.

Bioware used to be known for their awesome games, but off late you guys have been moving into the realm of releasing games with the undeniable potential to be awesome, but falling short due to poor decisions and execution.

DA2 and ME3 did both feel somewhat unpolished and rushed, especially in their respective third acts.  I'd say DA2 suffered from more obvious bugs, recycled maps, etc.  But it at least still told a sstory with plot and development and foreshadowing.  The last third of ME3 felt like half the plot was cut out.  If ME3 had been released with Javik, Leviathan, and the EC, it would feel like a completely different game.  Not the best sign.

It always hurts more when a game could've been so much better than it is.

Has to be a sequel, choose a canon ending and stick to it, destroy would make the most sense, wrex as leader of the genophage free krogan and the quarians on rannoch.

You could carry over some of the data from ME3, that would give nice easter eggs e.g. such as hearing about certain shepards deeds and choices in news articles, maybe meeting a broken down, bitter joker after EDI dies via the catalyst if you got them together and more.

But only have cameos from the old cast, put them in high responsibility places so they cant rundle around the planets with a new protagonist, E.g. maybe part of a new council on a rebuilt citadel or a planet or something? Vakarian, Liara, Tali and Bakara Urdnot, would make a nice famailiar council to have.

I'd really like to see how they push through the destruction/rebuilding of the mass relays, how the quarians fare, how earths rebuilding goes, what happens with the krogen breeding again, you could have some scandals such as the knowledge of Asaris using the prothean beacons to uplift themselves comeing to the forefront, all these races game together, beat the Reapers, but then what, old rivalries surface, actions of the war cause new rifts etc etc.

They have shed loads of more familiar material to build on rather then whisking away to 300 years ahead or back etc.

And yeah as the post above, take longer dont rush the final acts please.

Everything that follows is assuming that Blu-ray discs or something equivalent will be the standard for next-gen games, which will have more than enough space to accomplish what I’m asking for.

Deeper planet and/or hub world exploration

More indepth story telling like ME1

Able to playas any race or gender

All races should have male and female NPC’s present in the game. Unless they’re mono-gendered (I’m really tired of people asking for a male Asari. Get over it already.)

Deeper character creator.  (When Jacob has a better hairline than me, it’s very irritating)

The morality system should bear hefty penalties for being more paragon or renegade, something more than not being able to access a certain part of the dialog wheel.  For instance if you’re a paragon and there is a crime organization that needs to be infiltrated, it’s harder for you to do because your goody two shoes reputation precedes you. You’re known as being incorruptible and so you have to sneak in or go full assault on the group to get what you need. That has varying levels of success. But if you’re more renegade, said group won’t trust you completely but they know you’re not averse to breaking the law so they are willing to invite you into their stronghold and see what you have to say. If your paragade, you’re on shakier ground with the group and they invite you in, but at gun point. They hear what you have to say but to earn their trust you have to complete a certain mission.

I want the next trilogy to be a sequel that takes place between 300 and 400 years into the future and where any choice you made at the end is canon. A lot of people think that it can't be done and that the destroy ending should be the definitive canon ending, but I figured out a way to possibly make it all work.

-If you chose Synthesis obviously everyone has the glowing green skin and such. Between the end of the Reaper war and the start of the new game, the Reapers helped to rebuild all the societies they destroyed during the
war. When that's done most of the Reaper ships are decommissioned and their consciousness’s or A.I, are downloaded to huge server-like storage units (a la Geth servers), or individual bi-pedal units like the Geth. The Rachni, Geth, Quarians and some Yahg have been accepted into the fold of galactic civilization. The vast majority of the galaxy has accepted the synthesis, but even with the newly acquired knowledge gained from it there is still conflict in the galaxy. For instance there can be an organization or sect that don't accept the synthesis and could
be an antagonist to be handled with N7 type missions.

-If Control was the ending choice, then everything that I described for the synthesis ending applies, minus the whole glowing green skin and the non-synthesis group could just be the plain jane pirates we know and
love. Even though Shepard became one with the Reapers, no trace of his individuality exists.

-The destroy ending has the Reapers deactivated but their billion years’ worth of knowledge is still accessible. The knowledge is harvested, the ships are destroyed and used for resources during the rebuilding of galactic civilization, although it goes a bit slower than if the Synthesis and Control endings are chosen. Hence the wide gap in time from the first trilogy to the next.

As far as the main plot this is what I came up with:

After centuries of rebuilding and a relative peace among all species (minus a few minor incidents here and there), the Council has decided to start exploration through dormant Mass Relays again. With the acquired knowledge of the Reapers, maps of the entire galaxy beyond the dormant relays were available.  Three dormant relays have been successfully traversed and first contact has been made with a few new species that were found in the Reaper databases. There were a few dozen species in the database but only a handful that were advanced enough to initiate first contact with.

As a fourth relay is activated, and a small fleet of vessels is about to be sent through (a fleet that you are part of), an unknown group of ships come from the other side of the relay and begin to attack. They are no match for your fleet and all ships but one are destroyed. The last ship is disabled and the crew taken as prisoners. You are charged with interrogating them. Depending on your class, species and paragon/ renegade leanings determine
how you interrogate them.

After a mild or rough interrogation you find out that this new species has been dominated by the Leviathan race and were sent by them in order to stop the advanced races of the galaxy from gathering strength so that they can once again rule the galaxy as the apex race.

That’s all I got story wise. Not the greatest by any means but just an idea. But whatever the story is I hope that they stick with it and don’t change it because it may have leaked.  And for the love of god keep the same writers. It’s fine if you add new ones, but if one of the original guys who helped write big chunks of the story for the first two games out of the trilogy, and then up and leaves for the third one, it raises eyebrows. And I think the story can and will suffer for it. I say that to say I’m a Drew Karpshyn fan and although I like ME3 story, I think it might have been 10 times better had Drew been involved. But that’s just me ranting.

-Don't make the player character a Spectre. Now yes, making a Spectre CANDIDATE is fine, think of it as a "what if" scenario where Nihilius was alive long enough to do his entire evaluation.

-Get into some underlying subplots. How does the Galactic Community view the Asari government for withholding the Prothean Beacon on Thessia? How do the Asari view their government for that? How does the galaxy view the Krogan with the Genophage cured and a new government around? How is the galaxy reacting to the Quarians having a homeworld again, and how are they adapting to life on their homeworld, colonies and such? Are the Batarians still around (and how about a Batarian squadmate, pretty please?) and how are they looking at the Hegemony? Are the Volus getting any more respect in light of sending soldiers to fight the Reapers in active warzones (yeah, reference the multiplayer Voluses!)? How are the Turians rebounding from the beating their military suffered at the hands of the Reapers? Are the Vorcha getting their due?

-Did the Geth survive the Destroy ending? To me, this is kind of ambiguous wether or not the Geth survived. You could potentially have some wiggle room and say some of them survived by retreating into their consensus and that the Destroy ending wiped out their platforms (the body is gone while the mind is a brain-in-a-jar, essentially) and the Geth could potentially come back as another face in the galaxy. Or were the Geth servers destroyed and any Geth in them killed? Then there's the Geth that integrated themselves into Quarian enviro-suits in order to repair their immune systems. Are they still around? Can they form more Geth? Further, if the Geth DID survive, what do they call themselves now, or is Geth going to be their equivalent to John?

-Continue from ME3. No prequels, guys. Keep the story moving FORWARD. We already know how the First Contact War ended. You covered that in dialogue, the codex and at least mentioned it in that comic series that followed The Illusive Man before he started Cerberus.

-Non-human player character. Or at least don't make humans the only choice for a player character. I can't stress this enough. Look, I'll spell it out for you, HUMANS ARE BORING. I know, I am one. You have all these races in the galaxy you could start out with, why play as a human? In fact, you could Dragon Age it and have the player character choose to be one of any of the races in the galaxy (if they have to be military, you could go with an Asari Commando, Turian Platoon member, Salarian STG Operative, Alliance Soldier, maybe Quarian Marine or Geth Platform) and it can affect how people interact with you. And while I'm at it...

-Don't use cliched backstories. Am I the only one sick of the Dead Parents and/or No Father cards being played for action heroes? How about a just once, even if you do only ONE of the openings, one of the backstories has a both parents alive and well? In fact, if you have to do the "fresh-faced farm boy turned soldier" thing, how refreshing would it be for the characters to come from a stable household with two parents? Maybe it's just me, but I actually really liked the side mission in Mass Effect 1 where Shepard calls his mom to talk to her about Zabaleta. However, if you REALLY must do the cliches, restrict it to maybe one backstory.

Well, I don't think humans are boring, and given the fact we're about to ruin our today world, I wouldn't say life is boring as well ;)

But yeah, make Humans (male/female) one option and allow people to play as Asari, Turian or whatever. Just make sure that Krogans won't go into romantic action with anyone else than Asari and other Krogans ^^

My wishes & suggestions:

- NO dumbed down First Person Shooter
- keep the balance between 3rd person action & RPG elements
- keep dialogue wheel
- less auto dialogue than in ME3
- new human main protagonist/player character (not Shepard)
- keep character customization (gender, overall apperance, skill-tree, etc.)
- keep ME2/ME3 combat system
- keep Paragon/Renegade system
- would prefer to see a game set after the events of ME3 [don't care if one of the ME3 endings would be declared canon to have a ME4]
- all new exciting storyline
- all new alien races and old alien races
- new enemies
- all new interesting NPCs & squadmates
- cameo appearances of ME1 - ME3 characters (if they survived previous games)
- all new planets & worlds to visit
- keep Galaxy exploration
- planetary exploration reintroduced (MAKO/Hammerhead or all new vehicle)
- more hub worlds/open world levels
- more Love Interest interaction/dialogue
- squadmates should agree/disagree with player's actions much more (like in DA2) and earn friendship/rivalry points (with the possibilty that they might leave your party with too much rivalry or special bonuses with enough friendship points)
- all new player's starship
- more starship customization options

This has a lot of features I would love to see in another game set in the Mass Effect universe, I do have a couple of suggestions tho:

  • Set the game in the Terminus systems, this lawless and divided area of space is ripe for loads of stories and was pretty much ignored in Mass Effect 3.
  • Allow more playable races and genders to be picked, the Mass Effect trilogy is primarily Shepards story but is also a story about Humanity establishing itself in the wider galactic community. Now it would be nice to see the ME universe from the eyes of a Quarian, Krogan etc as they find their feet in this radically different universe.
  • Put mini story line back in, Mass Effect 1 and 2's story felt more fluid with being able to go explore different worlds and pick up little bits of stories that didn't impact the main plot line where ME3's felt far more linear and strict.

I'm gonna try to keep this simple:

1) Make Destroy(High Ems) Canon choice for Mass Effect 4

2) No Prequel go Foward no protheans no rachni wars etc...

3) Give Shepard a Cameo we have been Playing three games as her and I think bioware would do justice to Shepard by showing us what she did after the Reapers like settling down with her Li or whatever.

4) Give us something meaningful to fight in Mass Effect 1-3 we fight Reapers so I'm expecting to fight something something  as menacing or even more menacing than the Reapers.

5) Last but not least this is my Important point: Let Us play as other Races do not!!! Force us to play as another Human although make playing a Human a choice along with Asari-Turian-Salarian-Batarian-Krogan etc...

Thats it for my input I just hope Bioware actually Reads this ;)

Some more suggestions from me:

- A coop campaign (split-screen) would be something really amazing for ME. It wouldn't need to be the main campaign, but some really interesting sidequests would be neat to play with a buddy on one console and tv :)

- Also, if you make it possible for us to choose from different species, please don't make every single one some sort of soldier. Make it able for us to choose what our character was doing before the new ME story began. Was he a thug? A merc? A thief? An assassin? An average no-name who stumbled over something way bigger than himself? Since I think the new ME game will be the start of another trilogy I think it's alright to say, that I think it would be really boring storywise to play a soldier in a series that has the potential of so many different stories to tell...you know what I wanna say?

-Another thing: please...PLEASE leave the searching for resources like in ME2 out. It bored the hell out of me. It was annoying. Unnecessary. So please, just leave crap like that out.

As much as i would love to have the option to play as other races I don't see Bioware going with a DA Origins route, more than likely a human character will be the protagonist for the next game. I rather that not happen but if it does than at least do something different like I don't know the female being the lead instead of male for a change. A lot of people liked the bigger focus on femShep in the 3rd game so why not go and further and more with a lead female protagonist there's not a whole lot of strong female leads in gaming,

Getting rid of multiplayer would be step backwards so at the very least some form of online is going to be in the next game. It's just a matter of which one is going to anger the fans the least. I'd say 4 player co-op is the safest option especially if they allow people to play as all the races (even the volus) and have different backgrounds and classes for each race. If they go with this route I hope that they make the co-op campaign as long as the single player and tells a different story that coincides with the single kind of similar to Portal 2. Another thing is don't make the multiplayer characters just say a few words like "Clear" "Cover me" or "I'm down" give them the same amount of effort as whoever the main character is. If possible while going to a mission have option to talk to other players in the game so that you get the feeling that you're in an actual squad and get to know other players even if they are not in party chat or something.

There are a lot of good ideas here it might be a good idea to start up the basic things people want to see in ME4 into list that everyone can agree with rather than have several ideas that don't get commented on

I dont have anything substantial to reccomend for the plot of ME4. If I still trusted the company, I would be perfectly willing to enthusiasticly anticipate just about anything that they produced. The ME universe is expansive, exciting, and holds grreat potential for any story placed there. I would rather speak to Bioware's overall reputation.

The ME3 ending controversy marked a shift to me in how Bioware relates to its customers. No I didn't like the original ending, but that's not the point. A mistake, even a big one, is forgivable. An attitude is not. After the release of the Extended Cut, Bioware declared that they were at 'the end of the endings' and that no further ending related content would be produced, even while continuing to create non-ending content. This mule-like position in defence of a plot many fans still find less than satisfying marks a definite shift from earlier operating procedure. Previously, whenever the company has revisited a franchise with expansions, they have taken fan critisism into account. For example, both DA2 DLCs made sure not to re-use dungeon maps, and even had a toung-in-cheek reference to that point of critisism. Refusing to touch the ME3 ending again marks an end to this responsivness. Asking for fan input for ME4 does not restore confidence for me when they are still producing content for ME3 while ignoring that one matter.

If Bioware wants me to get excited for ME4, they need to show me they are still cabable of being in-tune with their customers. Thus, I strongly reccomend that the company declare mea culpa, and change their minds regarding the ME3 endings and their refusal to revisit them. Even if I still don't like what is produced, it will restore much confidence in the company's responsivness.

As for the future, cut whatever deal is needed with the rights-holders of the frostbite engine to release developer toolkits specific to ME4. The willingness to allow fans to mod the game is a tremendous passive acnoligment of differences of taste and artistic vision and an empowerment of fans. It is a preassure release valve for those who would otherwise take frustration out at the company's expense.

1. I'd prefer my destroy ending with Shepard dying, but otherwise that's fine.

2. sure.

3. NO. Apart from a statue in honor/rememberance and/or people discussing shepard, I do not want Shepard anywhere.

4. MORE menacing than Reapers? That'll be impressive...and I'd prefer a more "down to earth" enemy, another character (like Saren, the Illusive Man, etc) like a rival.

5. No. "Force" is the right word, I want extra options and to be able to experience the universe in MY way as well.

Overall, no thanks. I hope they do not implement these things.

I don't post very often, but I have been a fan of ME and of Bioware for a very long time, so I can't resist the opportunity to post on this thread.  If, for nothing else, just to know I put my two cents in and those two cents had a chance of being read by Casey or any of the other staff at Bioware.  I see a lot of poeple still bashing BW over the ending of ME3.  I get it, I really do.  I was numb when the credits began to roll, and the extended cut was akin to a band-aid on a sucking chest wound.  Yeah, I get it.  So let's move on and get past it.  I mean, either you're gonna buy ME4 or your done with BW,..ya know?  You're either in or out.  I'm still in because BW has given me over a decade of awesome RPG's and some great gaming memories.  Yeah, the ending of ME3 was a bummer and all of the negative things that have been spread across many postings fairly accurately reflect my feelings on it.  But, let's move on.  ME4.  No prequels please.  I don't need to know where the stuff I already like came from besides,..we already read all the codex entries right?  I think setting ME4 post ME3 is the way to go.  Yes, it forces BW to make a canon ending choice and this will alienate 2/3 of the people who picked the one of the other two as their own canon ending but,...Darth Revan was a male.  You see what I'm saying?  They made a choice and it became canon and life went on.  Sorry to all the femRevans out there.  Personally, I think that the control ending would be the easiest to work with.  You save the Geth and A.I's as a story resource for ME4 and you still have the presence of Shepherd, albeit an inaccessable one.  Shepherd would probably have the sense to move the reapers back to the edge of the galaxy, after helping restore the mass relays, an eternal sentinel gaurding the galaxy from whatever else may lurk in darkspace(plot thread anyone,..no..okay just thought I'd pop that out there).  The control ending also adds a certain irony; for all his flawed agenda, The Illusive Man was right.  A very subtle nod to the fact that TIM started as a hero of humanity, not a madman.  Destruction ending takes the Geth out as a story resource and the Hybrid ending is just,..kinda gross.  Seriously,..yuck.  Anyway,..on to the protagonist of ME4.  Many people have stated that having the option of playing other races would be cool.  I totally agree.  What I would like to NOT see is the main protagonist be a military bad-ass, hell bent on getting the mission done no matter what.  Been there, done that.  Seriously, I was in the Marine Corps for a long time.  I really have been there and done that, but it's gotten old in the gaming world.  Mass Effect, Halo, Gears of War...same dude, different setting.  Uh,..Halo 4 does rock though..just sayin'.  Look, regardless of which ending becomes canonized, the galaxy is totally screwed up at the end of ME3.  Civilizations are completely in ruins and this opens up the opportunity for,....business.  Wait!  Hear me out!  What if your main character is trying to start a fledgling merc band to reap the reward and opportunity left in the wake of the reaper war?  You still have the paragon/renegade aspect available.  Is this guy(or gal) trying to start a group that intends to attempt to aid a torn galaxy,..or is he a cut-throat looking to make as many credits off of the desparate as possible?  Of course, building the core of the team is where you have your NPC's, LI's, and other cast members, but let's not forget the ship.  The Normandies were an essential part of the cast as well.  It would be cool to have more options customizing and upgrading your vessel, especially as you start ot become more profitable and reknown.  Taking a cue from DA1, you could have several origin stories, allowing for different races and backgrounds to become a reality for the main protagonist.  I'm not so bold as to attempt to outline a main story, or even the side quests that could be generated from such a character idea, but I've played a lot of Luke Skywalker types.  The hero whose dedication and nerve are unwavering.  Shepherd.  Master Chief.  Marcus Fenix.  How about we give a Han Solo type his due in the amazing universe Bioware has created for us in Mass Effect.  Yup.  Just my two cents.

As much as I loved the story's progression through the trilogy, I can't help but miss the tone and vibe of the first game. That feeling of discovery is what originally hooked me into the series, I miss it so much I started watching Star Trek (the whole discovery theme and such).

But even more important than that I would really like the writers to make the plot more consistent, have better character progression, more dynamic and dramatic scenes, and the themes should be expressed better. For instance: Shepherd (no matter which prologue option you choose) is an elite military soldier. He's supposed to be the best of the best in the whole alliance military. But neither his skill or military experience is really expressed in the games, though the third game kinda expressed it with his conversations with Liara, and James N7 subplot. If the new game has a protagonist with a similar past please express it in the story/dialogue.

Also, in a galaxy that is populated by trillions upon trillions of characters it seems kinda strange that Shepherd will meet an acquaintance unintentionally in random occurrences. This always bugged me, please if you decide for this stuff to happen again make the setting of the game smaller. I would be fine with a game that takes place in a city.

Finally, playing as an alien would be da**** :b

Oh, something else I thought of. You know how in ME2 your equipped guns don't auto-switch to the Avenger and Predator in cutscenes? Or rather, you know how in ME3 when you could have a Rank X Executioner pistol and you somehow pull an infinite number of Predators out of your ass in cutscenes? KNOCK THAT OFF. I'd personally force the player to carry a pistol by default and the other guns you can have (SMG, Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle and/or Shotgun) are optional. If I have a Geth Pulse Rifle going into the cutscene, I want my Geth Pulse Rifle in the cutscene, NO MORE AVENGER FROM HAMMER SPACE!!!

Who cares Casey just do whatever you want I am going to youtube it first anyways, I really could not care less anymore unless Shepard, his team, allies and friends return other than that do whatever you want I don't plan on sticking around for it's success or failure I am down if you go any other route.

Bring Shep. his crew and friends back and I will pay whatever you want.

Something I think would be good, is to NOT have a Shepard-type hero this game. We already played as a person who already was big before the game, make the main character some small-time army guy, csec maybe, somebody small on omega, something like that

Something I think would be good, is to NOT have a Shepard-type hero this game. We already played as a person who already was big before the game, make the main character some small-time army guy, csec maybe, somebody small on omega, something like that

I like this idea.  Kind of a Star Wars 1313 approach?  It would be interesting to play a ME RPG where we're not saving the galaxy.

first, make it single player focused. second, if you do have multiplayer, dont have it affect the single player campaign. as ME3 demonstrated, it just doesnt work.

third, if its going to be a shooter.. SAY ITS A SHOOTER. if its going to be an rpg.. MAKE IT AN RPG. dont give us a ton of marketing spin and tell us its an rpg-shooter hybrid, when in reality it ends up being gears of war with a plot. sorry for the mini rant, but this is my biggest pet peeve with the company. i like both RPGs AND shooters. just tell us what kind of game this is up front.. and ill back you guys either way.

anyway, the other thing you need to do is.. dont make it an MMO. thats not what people want. imagine how successful TOR would have been if it was simply kotor 3.

and lastly.. be humble. remember the flack you got for the endings of ME3.. realize that you are not correct all the time. and if there are people in the company that say something isnt a good idea.. listen to them. because i have a hard time believing that everyone in the company agreed with the endings.. in fact, i would wager a lot of people didnt like them.. but because the right people did.. you went through with it.. and look how that worked out for you.
