This is the direction I would take ME 4. Start with a prologue like the EC with VA that matches ME3 end choice. Through cut scenes, slide shows and narration describe what happens to the galaxy and ME3 characters over the next 140 years. ME4 game proper..and I can't see how else to do this with how ME3 ended..whatever choice the player made in ME3 you end up in a similar timeline. But the Prologue reflects what happened so there are some differences. The Reapers have left for dark space after rebuilding the galaxy for Control and Synthesis. Destroy and Refuse, the united Galaxy rebuilds regardless. The Geth and other synthetics are reconstructed. With Refuse though it cannot result in a new 50k timeline so some retconning would be needed (successful refuse). All choice outcomes, who lived or died etc would be dealt with leaving the game to start in the same place. A rebuilt mostly united galaxy looking to the future with renewed hope. The use of cybernetic implants has increased over 140 yrs (as the Starbrat predicted) leading to a Synthesis like starting point (at least if you picked Destroy, Refuse or Control it wasn't given to everybody against their will). Cameos from older Asari, Krogan and Prothean? and relatives of other characters would help to link ME4 with previous games.

ME4 : Dark Space. A certain Asari (a cameo by Liara), now head of an Asari research institute looking into the Relay network, commissions the building of a new Cruiser. A joint venture with expertise and crew from across the Citadel races. Its mission to map the entire Relay network for the benefit of all Citadel races. The Ship is named after Shepard. It has stealth systems so it can enter a new relay system and remain undetected. If hostile races are encountered it can defend itself with Reaper shielding and weapons (freely given by the Reapers in Control and Synthesis, recovered tech reverse engineered from Reaper remains in Destroy and Refuse). It has an advanced AI as ships computer with a personality a cross between Mordin Solus and Edi. The new Commander, is introduced in a similar style to how Shepard was in ME1, with a decision taken between Citadel councillors and Liara. Face, race, class and gender all customisable. The Commander has to pick his Team, these missions are like the team building in ME2 as they create a backstory to each new character. As well as showing even after the events of ME3 there is still plenty of intrigue and conflict within the galaxy. Oh yes and an unmapped relay that strands The Shepard in dark space where things much older than Reapers are waiting..

So at heart an RPG with exploration of new regions of the Galaxy, new races, new conflicts. Vehicle exploration with a new vehicle with better handling than the Mako, but with more shielding and weapons than the Hammerhead. Perhaps minigames involving piloting vehicles like the Atlas, space combat, games of chance/skill with the crew (poker/shooting range). Life or death decisions that do substantially impact on subsequent games. Dialogue wheel conversations (paragon, renegade, neutral and investigation options), ME3 style squad based combat (minus groucho marx style movement), weapon mods, customisable armour, romance, humour, journal that updates, face import that works for new trilogy, minor rant incoming..and above all a well thought out story without massive McGuffins, unnecessary protagonist death and deus ex machina characters that nearly burn the franchise to the ground for some players. When I complete ME4 and have done everything the game requires I expect to feel like I have won..see ME1 and ME2 endings. And the hours spent playing it, although objectively a waste of time, shouldn't feel that way...

I was actually thinking of some old nostalgia weapons for the new game (easter egg perhaps), maybe even a modified version of some classic weapons like the AK47 and M60 (adapted to use thermal clips, yet have the same bulky look and sound). It could be tied to the story, say the squad has lost all their equipment and stumble on an abandoned bunker from the 2000's and they bring them on their ship later on and adapt them to fighting whoever. I'm sure i'm not the only one who would love to bring out their inner Rambo to a game like Mass Effect. Thanks for reading this short text, I hope to see this getting approved.

Am I one of the few who thinks that its much too early to be talking about, thinking about and developing the next game in the franchise?! Maybe I'm from the Old School... but I still remember a time when an Artist would promote 1 Album for over two years!

I'm really concerned about all this talk about ME4. It seems like BioWare is trying to distance itself from all the contraversy surrounding ME3 ASAP. From FemShep Voting Round 2 to Day One DLC release and the RGB Ending.

But BioWare... I will not forget all this and neither should you. For all Mass Effect 3's faults: the game still has a f*ck ton of potential. Embrace it... don't run awawy from it. I want more ME3 Content not ME4. Not yet anyway: You have yet to convince me that your company deserves to make ME4 -- unless you continue to perfect ME3...

What faith or possible assurance could you give any fan or consumer that ME4 won't be as rushed and underdeveloped as ME3 was? As good as the Extended Cut DLC is. I think many people might have had the same thought about it as I did:

"I can't believe BioWare released this game on March 6th 2012 , without this content. What the hell were they thinking!?" So for this Gamer, Casey Hudson and the rest of you guys -- should still be asking us what we want in ME3.

I'm seeing a lot of people wanting to see Shepard in ME 4 as a cameo or something, which is fine as long as the Shepard making the appearance is YOUR Shepard, not a default. My Shepard is a female and does not not look anything like the default femShep so that's the last thing I want to see in my game. Frankly, as much as I'd love something like seeing my Shep make a cameo, I have to be honest and say I wouldn't want to find out that all the little things that people complained were lacking in recent games gets the cut over something like seeing Shepard.

A mention would do just fine.

A memorial statue or painting depicting your created Shepard would be cool.

I need to be able to play Shep and Liara's daughter in the next game or I will consider it the greatest missed opportunity of game play continuation ever.

Split mass effect francise into 2 games, the multiplayer part and the campaign part, ill buy both if campaign is not set in a synthesis universe.
I don't care about playing other races then human, because if that is implemented it's going to take allot of time and money for the dev team that they could have used for making content like extra mini quests etc.
The space exploration and questing feel of me3 was ****ty and shallow especially compared to me1.
Don't try and gather to the teen crowd by writing anime villains in like Kai Leng remember Saren was much more loved (and taken seriously) as a villain and he tried to save the universe in his own way.
Publisher MS wanted a unique game on their xbox platform when the original was developed and fans loved the game for it, don't dumb down the next game more to draw in the shooter crowd.

- Combat like ME2
- MP like the leaked footage and not ME3
- Less pathetic and patriotic
- More dialogue options (bring back the "neutral" answer
- more vehicles to choose from
- Much more OPEN WORLD to actual explore (Think Skyrim in Space)
- Put more work into the details (Textures, Variety, etc f.e. Tali's Face)
- Real RTS Elements instead of collecting war res... to change a multiplicator...
- Actual impact of player to the story (put the choices in front of a mission, not at the end, so we can actual see the difference)
- DO NOT DUMB IT DOWN ANY FURTHER!
- Think more Christopher Nolan and less Michael Bay

... just my 5 cents.

Here is my Idea I posted several months ago:

While I am not completely happy with the ending you provided us in the Extended Cut DLC, it made the whole ME series playable for me again.

I believe that if you want to continue the franchise, then the destroy and control endings allow quite a lot of opportunities for a new stories of new heroes (it might have been possible with refusal, high EMS ending that you have not foreseen in your EC, but it does not matter).

Now, I have the following idea that you can take under consideration for the future of ME franchise:

Mass Effect, a tale of 100 and 1 sun

Hypothesis:
- Shepard's story is finished with ME3 (even if he survives, I imagine that he would simply cut the profits from his galaxy saving endevour - no more galaxy saving, he would spend time writing books, doing politics, raising blue babies with Liara or other calm stuff)
- relays are not operational or at least their network is strongly disrupted, what favors more conventional travel
- we will not see the former ME1,2,3 party members and important NPCs much, except for some small cameos

Inspiration: Privateer, Fallout games

Idea: this time, we would play not a "chosen one", but an unknown mercenary somewhere in the milky way, that basically "hacks and slashes" his way to fortune (to quote Lilarcor), this mercenary should be attached to some bigger, more epic quest, maybe not as ground breaking as destroying/stopping the reapers.

My first idea was: the citadel had been destroyed, the galactic council is gone, after the reaper war everybody went home to recover from that terrible trauma, what would probably cause a period of relative isolationism; that would bring forth the particularities of each race; while the krogan/salarian animosity might have been finished with Genophage cure and the one that existed between Geth and Quarians as well (thanks to Patrick Weekes), there is a lot of potential of warmongering from other races (including batarians, Vorcha, rogue Krogans, Rachni and even all others, which might have rogue systems with new Stalins and Hitlers that could have arosen after the whole catastrophe).

Thus the main quest in such post ME game could be reconstructing the galactic council as otherwise the races might fall into a trap of countless local wars. In terms of real history: the mission of our hero can be an analogy to the stories of important figures of post communist opposition and new european deal constructors such as Vaclav Havel, Lech Walesa, Michail Gorbachev, Helmut Kohl, etc. In american examples maybe it can be compared to the USA independence fathers.

Our mercenary would perform various quests reconciliating the new and old conflicts; he might have some complex backstory defining the specificity of the main quest, much alike to Dragon Age Origins, this could be for example: for human PC the ex Cerberus origins, for Asari: Ardat Yakhsi, for Turian: one of those who followed Saren in his "better" days, and so on.

The particular characteristics of the game would be its big exploration freedom, like in Privateer. The player would have his spaceship which would allow exploration of the galaxy, and actual piloting through the space (it means some flight simulation), high customization of the spaceship features. The planets could be explorable in the same way as in Mass Effect games, some of them would have predefined locations (the hubs notably), others would have much free roaming mode (like in ME1 planets exploration, with Mako equivalent, why not ? I liked it !). The character would be developped like in ME1 CRPG system, and would share action feel of ME series. With all that, the PC would travel through the galaxy doing various quests, but also some bantering, space pirate hunting, bounty hunting, ressources collecting to buy better equipment. That kind of FPS-action CRPG/spaceflight sim had never been done and it matches perfectly to the Mass Effect world, style with already existing lore of terminus systems.

The game would feature many party members that could be recruited as in ME series, with relationships buildup, romances.

That is all for now ... if ever you make such a game I would be ready to try it out.

Ps: 101 suns refers to a number of space systems that the game would feature for exploration, with planets to visit, land, scan or whatever else... the planets would be coherent with currently existing ME cannon

VERY IMPORTANT: if you happen to make such a game, PLEASE do not mix MMO with single player ! that is important : SWTOR shown it does not work (because thousands of other players do the same "epic" quest in front of us, that is antiepic by definition) and ME3 shown it as well

I want some more support on the ground/in-ships from the Normandy or whatever our new ship is going to be. Throughout the ME games, it always annoyed me how few times the Normandy's weapons were fired and how few times it gave us air support. Instead of scripted sequences, let us call in our ship to give fire support whenever we want to.

That VI program of Shepard can make an appearance in ME4. It could say I am a Legend repeatedly like a broken record.

... or I am a Reaper God.

.... or I'm in You and You and You... Shepard's hand waves across all who pause before the VI.

... or the VI says I F'd up and let the Harvest continue. Oops!

How isolated must Casey et al be to write ME3?
The main purpose of this game was to emotionally invest the players in the characters, so you cared--so
1) Main character dies--how is that winning?
2)Ending is a choice between commiting genocide against an ally or becoming something you have spent 3 games fighting--how is that right.
3)to get EMS points up a minimum level (for me, 2800) you had to play from the offical guide. Just playing won't get it. How is being compelled to follow a script good?
The offical guide said that at 2800 a third ending was unlocked, which didn't happen--why not?
4)I bought single player games, ME, ME2, & ME3; then found that the rules were changed to more or less force a half assed multiplayer on me. I do not play multiplayer, am not equipted to play multiplayer, and that is my choice--I don't want to play multiplayer. But Casey and his crew used the emotional investment to try to force something on me. How is that entertainment? It sounds like a job. It sounds like what I play games to escape.

And finally, Casey-- that press conference you organized to discuss the ending and the DLC was just insulting AND disrespectful. You edited out all the negative input and said that you wanted input.

ME4? I will check the credits to see if you are listed before I buy any game.

You failed a spot check: They want you to play multiplayer - both to keep playing the game (I've spent far more time playing TF2 than any other game in the last year) and to spend real world cash on equipment packs. EA has even said (in a cartoonishly villainous way) that they've not made any single player games in the last year.

Well, I don't think humans are boring, and given the fact we're about to ruin our today world, I wouldn't say life is boring as well ;)

But yeah, make Humans (male/female) one option and allow people to play as Asari, Turian or whatever. Just make sure that Krogans won't go into romantic action with anyone else than Asari and other Krogans ^^

Lol. Whats wrong with a Krogan PC getting with a Human NPC or whatever? You don't have to see it ya know?

As for what I would like.

- The ability to play as other races(Mainly Turians).
- No commander Shepard aside from a statue or whatever.
- NO REAPERS! I can deal with the occasional random Husk. But no more Reaper antagonists(No Reaper protagonists either).
- I want the option to start out as a Mercenary or CSEC officer or something.

I'd like the next protagonist to be somewhat naive and vulnerable. Someone who is not use to the galaxy and its violent ways. Someone young. Honestly, having a Shepard 2.0 is not the way to go, because I'd just compare it to my Shepard and just want her back. Start the next chapter of the Mass Effect series fresh, in all sense of the word. No former squadmates, very limited references, new areas/worlds, etc. I think what would be even more satisfying, would have the whole story not having any trace of references of the original trilogy, until we reach the end where we find out that every thing we had accomplished actually related to the original trilogy in a BIG way. It'd be cool, replaying the game and trying to find little clues that hinted at the overarching plot.

Some really great feedback here!

By the way; the engine doesn't make textures better or worse. A texture is simply an image strapped on a model and can look however the texture artist decides, high res or low res. The difference is how that texture is handled, loaded etc.

It's pretty safe to assume that the graphics will be better though lol

My requests

1. Let us play as any race that we want to
2. Have a different start and different story variations throughout depending on our race
3. Keep the same type of visceral combat, but improve upon it
4. Change the level up system and class system-If you want the 6 classes to stay then that's fine, but at least give us a class that has no powers or weapons training except for a pistol, and let us level it up a different way so we can build a custom class, or use the level up system from Skyrim
5. Be a sequel. It has more story options, since everything that happened before the original trilogy is already set in stone
6. More hub worlds, including being able to visit every races' homeworld/main area
7. Larger squad, with more diversity
8. No more auto dialogue
9. If at all possible, cut down on bugs
10. Better animations, because animations like sprinting in ME3 was kinda bad
11. New weapon class/classes
12. More powers
13. Level up a power more times
14. Space combat, or at least a type of space exploration where we control the ship from a pilot/fighter point of view
15. The ability to buy a home, and buy different ships, or buy multiples of each
16. More romance options, including marriage, kids, etc, depending on how long the game lasts in game ( the story lasts for 20 years )
17. Remain fully voice acted
18. More cinematics ( The battle over Palaven at the start of the Menae mission was considerably worse than the end game battle for things like graphics, textures, animations, etc
19. Obviously, the choice to choose gender
20. Depending on when it takes place, have some short character cameos, like if it is 900 years into the future, Liara is a matriarch advising something
21. I don't care how long it takes you, I want this game to be a quality of which I have never seen

My 2 cents

What I want from ME 4:
Target your demographics across multiple revenue streams. Leverage brands via multiple channels. Maximize ROI by focusing on vertical integration of media and advertising! Think Angry Birds meets COD meets Ad Men meets Twilight. Brand recognition through licensing programs - kids want to maxi-energize with ME branded Mountain Dew Gamer Fuel. Get Twitter and Facebook buzzing with contest tie-ins and celebrity tweets (Kardashians, Beyonce, etc). Have a character modeled on and voiced by either Selena Gomez or Justin Bieber. Have IGN give it 11/10 2 months before release. Get Adele to write and perform the theme song.

Invent a word for 'even more perfect' then perfect, and let IGN award you with it.

And because people complain about autodialog so much, deal with it. Remove dialog from the game. completely. Without substitution.
