Man I highly doubt he, or anyone else is gonna read all of this.

Actually, he at least browses the thread sometimes, or so it seems.
For example, one big topic in this thread is that nearly everyone wants to have different species to choose from as the main character. Casey Hudson commented on that in Twitter.
Another topic is if the new game should be a prequel or sequel and that was also commented on on Twitter.

So, I don't think that he reads every single comment here, but I think he browses this thread so he has a general idea on what the fans have a common ground on.

Give them at least the benefit of the doubt.;)

Here is my suggestions: -

- Since it is called "Mass Effect 4", the story MUST continue to go forward in the storyline, NOT backwards.

- My idea for ME4's story is that it'll be about all galactic races trying to rebuild their civilization post-ME3, but conflict arises over how it should be done. I also want all of Commander Shepard's surviving squadmates making an appearance in ME4 as well.

- Another suggestion I have for the same post-ME3 story I mentioned above, have the Asari become shunned by the rest of the galactic community for "a certain secret hidden away on Thessia" (look up "Priority: Thessia" if you don't know what I'm talking about) being exposed during the Reaper War in ME3, and end up losing a seat on the Citadel Council as a result. (Just like how the Quarians are shunned for making the Geth in the ME Trilogy)

- Just like Commander Shepard, the protagonist in ME4 will customable down to their gender, only this time the player now has the ability to choose what race the character can be (Human, Asari, Krogan, Turian, Salarian, etc.) and also customize the physical build of the character (muscular, athletic, skinny, etc.).

That's all the suggestions I have for ME4 right now. Hope you like them.

While setting ME4 ages after ME3 or canonising an ending is the easiest way to start a new story, it would be possible to reflect the major choices using some kind of multiple choice 'exam', like at the beginning of KotOR 2.

IE: was the genophage cured, did Wrex or Wreav lead them ,and was Eve alive. Who survived the Q/G conflict? Q, G, or both? And what colour was your ending?

Easier than importing a save file (if that's even technically possible on new consoles), and since I'm guessing most people on these forums have few playthroughs (at least of ME1 and ME2), it can get hard to remember which character did what. This way you could set it up to your preferred state.

It could even be presented in game as an exam that the player character has to do during creation...

A sequel I believe, presents far more opportunities for story telling as it allows a link to be formed between the actions of your Shepard and the future of Mass Effect. Considering the galactic scale implications of her actions, their is a great amount of divergence and potential world building from previous games that can form the setting of a Mass Effect 4. Such continuous development of the storyline with their own Shepards as the foundation for the world of ME4 presents an opportunity for players to be further invested in the lore and setting that they create for themselves.

A sequel also allows for more freedom in regards to imagination. Races that had barely existed  or have barely been noted by others can rise to be a major force in the galactic scale. Species can evolve, thier ideals can change, new historical background between races can be developed.  Technology can also be reimagined as well, when one  considers the nature of the final ending of Mass Effect 3. Their is, I find to be actually plenty of opportunity to introduce new technologies, evolve pre-existing ones but most importantly may also present the opportunity to retcon pre-existing technologies under the notion that through the passing of time. Certain technologies have become lost knowledge to others, and/or are remembered by only a select few races. Depending on how much time has passed, more exotic and imaginative settings may also exist as well in conjunction with marks of history from the previous war with the Reapers. I can imagine for instance, the landscapes of our Earth reformed.

-Areas that were once habitable no longer has fertile ground, famous Mountains that once loomed over us laid low by reaper bombardment,

-famous landmarks left unfixed and preserved in it's ruined state  serve as memorials against the war of the Reapers.

-places where cities used to be long gone and simply dust and ruins with overabundant flora growing over them. They would have been simply beyond repair.

-Other, new cities would be formed instead, greater and more prosperous than the ruined cities of the old days.

Mind you such things can also be done with other planets as well, though I would imagine to varying degrees depending on how much destruction the war with the Reapers have wrought on each planet.

Biotic powers I feel can also change a great deal as well. Very new and interesting powers can be introduced while also allowing for previous existing powers to exist/evolve as well. Much like technology, it can also allow for certain powers to be lost over time from the perspective of the story line.

Because of the idea of worlds that have existed before changing a great deal, building upon the history of the Shepard arc and the potential for the evolution of new species. I feel that their is a greater incentive for players to explore a galaxy that is simultaneously familiar but would also be new at the same time. It would I feel, in my opinion, not alienate the fan base but at the same time allowing you, the developer to have more freedom to bring forth and evolve your creative capabilities even further, to bring very new and interesting ideas not really thought of before, or have never been brought up in mainstream sci-fi. I feel that you developers in particular are in a very advantageous spot to push to even greater heights, creativity and story telling in science fiction while at the same time bringing it to a massive audience who are very much invested in your games.

With all due respect Mr Hudson...Fix the endings (CHANGING THEM not adding false closure) add a TOTALLY GAMEY Final Boss (Harbinger) and show us that you listen, then... we´ll see about giving ideas for ME4

HOLD THE LINE!

Using skyrim's open character generation in regards to race and sex is an absolute must.

Not doing so would be a crime when you have the opportunity.

Also, no prequel.

If the ending was as important as was intended to be, then we as Mass effect fans need to see the results firsthand.

I can't help but feel that the massive backlash against the ending of ME3 means that BioWare is now consulting the fans before doing anything else with the series.

I'm nervous about this new game, my fear is they will go after the first person/fps market with full co op and take more and more away from what made the series great in the first place.

I think it is too little too late for them to decide to take that route now.

Mechanics
- Being able to choose your own race and don't make (all of) them some kind of pre-determined hero.
- Bring planet exploration back
- Have a great sense of scale like ME1. ME3 felt bigger than ME2 but still felt small compared to ME1. Being less linear and having more open spaces will greatly help achieve this. Also, allow battles in unexpected places just like ME1. In ME2 and ME3 there were clear battle levels and exploration levels and they were completely seperate, while in ME1 battles could happen anywhere, for example Chora's Den ambush and so on.
- Bring vehicles back, and not limited to land vehicles. Especially under water is cool, from what we've seen from Leviathan. Space would be nice too.
- Embed choices into the game mechanics rather than just the dialogue wheel and interrupts. As an example, check this out, (from 7:10 on).
- Expand on the ME3 modding mechanics by allowing omnitools & biotic amps to level and be modded. For the whole explanation, check this thread I made.
- Have the ME3 multiplayer 'teleport' dodge, melee sword and so one available in the main campaign depending on your race/class
- More button variety and not just 'A'/space as a do-everything-button.
- Have characters like/dislike you like the mechanics of Dragon Age: Origins, where what you say and do directly influences their view of you over time, instead of having single key moments like ME2 (so no Miranda vs Jack choice = immediate disloyalty, or one mission = immediate loyalty).

Story
- Sequel in the far future (preferable, but not really required for me)
- Use the races we know, new ones, and evolved ones (say Vorcha have become smarter and less violent-looking or whatever)
- Depending on what you choose in the beginning, you're a normal citizen or someone working for the council and have the council being unknowingly rogue/indoctrinated (maybe by Leviathans?). You will rebel against them when you find out their plans, by training yourself (be it in Biotics, Tech or combat depending on what you want and/or your race of choice in the beginning), then gathering a team (a la ME2). Allow betrayal in your team and more choice regarding who joins you. What happens further, I leave to you. Beyond Good & Evil is a good inspiration for these kinds of story structures. Keep it ME-like though (obviously). Don't forget that you're not limited to just this galaxy btw.
- Do not pick a canon ending (or canon anything that had choices from prior games), especially not the destroy ending
- Have considerable differences as the story progresses. Whether it's a standalone game or another trilogy. And don't call it Mass Effect 4 if it's not a direct sequel
- Do not shy away from having a tragic ending. Just make sure you present it right instead of confusing us. Think of movies like Braveheart, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, or even Titanic, on how to do a great tragic ending. Or even take your own game as an example. Dragon Age: Origins had a few very tragic endings, but people didn't hate them, because they were well-presented. Don't think we all want an ending with ponies and rainbows. Even ME2 had a tragic ending where Shepard died, and people praised you for it. How you present it determines everything.
- Do not use the indoctrination theory as a reference to build on the next game. It's still a fantasy and should not be taken as canon.

So I have thought more and more on it and these are my suggestions refined a little bit in terms of what I would LOVE to see in the next Mass Effect game.

1. The next mass effect game has to be a sequel (at least the nextone that comes out).  Bioware should go with a similiar model that Ubisoft did for Assassin's creed(release multiply titles inbetween the main games), give fans their sequel that is set after ME3 and then while the main team works on the next games in the series (2/3), they should have another team(I believe they said Bioware Montreal is the main team this time, so Bioware Huston or Edmonton) work on another Mass Effect game that is set before the original series. Something like the Morning War, First Contact or even Shepards orgin story or some character that has glimpses of Shepard during the play through(since they did say Shepards story is done).  Not only will that please the fans, you will create even a more diverse/enthriling universe for Mass Effect.

2. Make the new story something different and only touch on Shepards story a little with the sequels.  What I would of envisioned would be start at the end of ME3, a team of rag tag mercs arerunning from a reaper and hit a mass relay, just as the mass effect is hit with the R/B/G beam and this overcharges there engines and sendsthem out of our universe with no way back and all they have is each other among other aliens and their only goal is to survive! Maybe send a Reaper with them, a new main villian who starts enslaving parts of the new universe. Have aliens races on the merc team that we love so it doesnt completely throw out the original races, like a turian and volus engineer, asari twins, a female and male quarien, and 2 other humans on the ship.  Make it so that you recruit more aliens and they have improve your ship and your survival rate in the new universe. This is something different and something not like shepard which you already said you wanted for the main character. If you dont like that, make it 1000 years in the future, something that complete wipes the slate clean for the new game.

3. Now I am not a fan of this 3rd option but it seems a lot fo people want it, the ability to select your race. I personally think you should stay human...always so you can reflect on the personal choices you make. Like how it was in the original, I believe a lot of user thought as Shepard as themselves, rather then just a character Bioware made.  This makes it easier to write your story and other technical issues you might run into.  Multiply races should be done for an MMO like SWTOR, not for a game like Mass Effect were Shepard was such a huge impact on the story and on personal experiences for the users.

4. Romances should be fleshed out a bit more.  One thing I noticed in the Mass Effect games is that, the romances, while some has touching scences, where not always equal when compared to others.  Alot of people have fallen in love with your characters and take them pretty seriously.  Give him their snuggle scene/love scence/more one on one conversations with your love interest(a must! One on one to find out more about your romance, back story about them, etc). Also more gay/bisexual/straight/alien romance options, blaze new trails! Also make more drama choices, Mr. Hudson originally envisioned Mass effect as a space opera, so lets have those drama scenes, like more picking between romances, more cheating/not cheating choices, heart to heart with romances and etc. Love it or hate it, one of the greatest pilars of Mass Effect is the romances.

5.The ability to explore a bit more, like ME1, except not like ME1 haha(yeah you read that right) I loved how you could just on a planet...but then going over mountains/hills with the vehicle sucked ball haha so more on-foot/in space ship/in a vehicle like tank options for exploration, its a huge universe out there and I like to explore the plants for resources/side quests/weapons/etc.

6.Choices - Never get rid of this,  you should always keep the ability to make choices, they make the users feel more passionate about the game, as you seen in the fan outrage about ME3 ending initially.  But it should be more like SWTOR, I'd like to know if I am picking a bad or good choice lol and add two more options, a Pink romance option and a say green neutral option.  There have been times in ME2 on my fem shep were all i wanted to do was say hi to Jacob and  my femshep ends up wanting to sleep with him right there on the work bench lol not my choice! I would say limit the big choices for the first game and then expand into the sequels and by the third game, have those choices make a difference in the ending.

7. For the love of god, make don't auto-dialogue the main way to talk to your teammates. While I believe it is nessessary for time issues/etx, if you do make a lot of auto-dialgue, you should still give us the ability to talk to the characters, I hated it when in ME3, I could not talk to my teammates after they finished their auto-dialogue part and only say "Hello Shepard" a thousand times before the next mission.  You should have auto dialogue and then talk to the user to find more in-depth on their thoughts about whats happening or the previous mission.  When you think about it, auto-dialouge is more natural for the game but I also would actually love to talk to my teammates lol.

8. DLC - this is a given, never stop until the next game comes out, we will continue to buy it!(you know you will reader).  Exand on the sides stories that you wanted to touch on, explain more lore, etc..  I think you have a great DLC model at the moment, free mutiplayer DLC but paid single player DLC. I love DLC, it gives me more reasons to play the game over and over.

9. Side quests - I truely believe side quests should have more focus. ME1 side quests were like go here, do this/some story, done in 5-10 minutes. ME2 was more go here, now go here, and then here....and one more here....oh another place to go now, with very little story if any! While ME3 side quests were just a simply fetch quests. You should have more meaning/story to the side quests and more dialogue in them.  Also don't make them part of the main story, they are side quests for a reason(not like the item fetch inside the N7 missions in ME3)

10. Multiplayer - Dont ever make the main story results dependent on MP lol I hated this for ME3, I spent 6-7 hours grinding with retards/douche bags online to get my readiness at 100%.  You should still have MP though, since its kind of fun with friends and keep the character creation but have a little more in-depth wih them. Like have the character creation tool from the main game, implemented into MP so it makes the characters more unique.  Maybe add more classes as well and not just 5 classes with slightly different skill sets, or have it so they more can be added in the future.

I hope the Mass Effect team reads this thread or even Casey Hudson.  I look forward to whatever the future is with Mass Effect and I am definitely a fan for life, Mass Effect has affected my life for sure! Lets continue the franchise for a long time Bioware!

*Edit - spacing was all  weird for some reason*

For what it's worth, I have absolutely no interest in a prequel. I want to see the universe at some point after the final ME3 showdown, hopefully pretty far into the future. I want to be able to play alien races; humans are boring. I desperately missed being able to play other races in DAII and I would love to see a return to the DA:O race model for ME4. My only other suggestion is no more reapers, no more Shepard, none of the cycle business. Something completely new.

Sequel, far in the future, in a somewhat recognizable universe where stuff has evolved.

Have all-new tech, new horizons, challenges, and vistas. Keep it rooted in some familiar lore to have callbacks to the original trilogy and you can even make the original endings "canon" with enough work. Let's face it, though, a lot of those differences will be muted. It's the way of sequels. I'm not completely happy with this either, but realize you're going to run into a "rachni' situation. It's unavoidable.

And lastly, make it a very different game. We already had a tense, often-dark and epic game with tones of Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5. How about taking the new game in a completely different direction where you're a rag-tag band of scoundrels/freelancers on a Firefly-style ship?

I would like to see race selection and skill/class customization. Instead of just set classes available we should be able to mix and match abilities.
Something like a biotic infiltrator or sentinal engineer would be interesting.
Give the players a chance to really customize there character if they want.

YES! I loved the like/dislike system. It made your interactions with your squadmates so much more real and made them more real because they wouldn't cast their morals/beliefs aside simply because your character said so.

No A,B, or C endings.Nothing from the last 20 years of game plots/fights.Think outside the BOSS box.No mandatory multiplayer,
Sell DLC on flash sticks for people with slow net.Would also allow you to make DLC bigger.Course we could wait for the cheap "Game of the year"edition with all the trimmings.New game every 3-4years and 6 big DLCs between.
Like/dislike is a good system.

I want them to scrap the new mass effect game and come out with mass effect universe system where there is no dlc size limit id be happy to pay out 30 bucks per mini game (1st contact war, rachni wars + all others) and it would keep bioware mass effect team together with money in there pocket and and endless jobs. would be the next gen of gaming a system just for mass effect a whole galaxy where the player can choose timeline

So, so far it looks like players and Bioware, too, want something new and refreshing, something that might give a feeling of discovering ME universe anew. Many people also want to play as an alien aswell.

I'd like to present and idea how to combine these aspects in an interesting way(going along with my previous post maybe: http://social.biowar...9111/8#14165393).

Base the new setting around a large group of refugees(100k to 1 million) fleeing the reaper war into somewhat remote corner of the galaxy through some fairly forgotten Mass Relay in an act of desperation, where reapers did not show up before Shepart turned the RBG wheel or simply were blown up together with the relays just as they were closing in.

Now you've got a whole lot of different species stranded together in a single solar system with no contact to the rest of the galaxy for 100-300 years. Make this system contain a couple of gas giants(fuel, energy) orbited by several earth sized sattelites each(living space). During these years, the refugees settle in, build up their communities - race-based, mixed, large and smaller - and carry out conflicts, develop slightly different customs and culture, come up with a couple inventions(say, there was a group of scientists carrying out some secret research among fleeing refugees) etc. Refugee Krogans still carry the virus, so their race can't overtake these new world just by numbers.

At some point in the game an expedition from the "other side" finally reaches this star system and the player will finally get the chance to get out into the wast new "old" world, rediscovering the rebuild centres of civilization and uncovering that there is something terribly wrong with the rest of the galaxy and basically go on the quest to save it (yet again) throughout the rest the new ME installment series.

Possible motivation for player to play "the hero" yet again: saving his homeworld from the threat that will ultimately sweep over the galaxy into his "home". Paragons would want to protect their families, friends or just "the people", renegades would maybe want to get/protect a buisiness going, gain power and simply profit from removal of whatever theatens the galaxy by securing the gratitude of a galactic governments or something like that.

This scenario gives you a pretty interesting start:

Players do not need to know about ME universe to understand the game: they just start as descendants of the refugees and only know this one star system where they grew up. (Role)Playing alien races would be much easier as the play would be not expected to know everything about their chosen species and getting totally new people into the franchise is super easy, too.

This also would be a great setting/start for a somewhat different approach to the Mass Effect universe, where you start at the bottom - in contrast of a full fledged war hero and high ranked military -, working as a mercenary maybe, getting a bit closer look at the mindset/culture of different species with focus on fairly normal people instead of on entire civilizations.

Slightly "lower tech" approach would offer some interesting possibilities from the standpoint of equipment customization.

It also provides a quite interesting mix of discovery, rediscovery and nostalgia for different types of players. Especially the aspect of rediscovering the rebuilt galaxy would come off much more natural because your character - while familiar with a bit of history of the past - really has no clue what happened in the last 100-300 years.

You know, a moment where you as a player get to the home planet of your race or to the centre of the galactic civilization(Citadel or something different), where you would see a giant statue of Shepard there and ask "hey, who's that guy?" and get a detailed explanation, would be pretty epic for all who played ME1-3, because of how natural it would be to "not know".
