Bring Shepard back Hanc*ock style. Reveal the true identity either at the end of the first installment or at the end of the series. Make little blue children happen this time.
Whether Shepard is brought back or not, here's a general idea for the next series:
- some time after ME3 ending, going with the "destroy" variant without killing off all geth or EDI.
- main protagonist still a human, this keeps aliens a bit more exotic and unique. players also can relate better to a human character.
- the game is party focused on planetary exploration in varied environmental conditions(just like in ME1: toxic atmospheres, heat, cold, asterioids, different gravity etc) using mako-type vehicles.
vehicle combat, lots of different gadgets(spy drones, mortar upgrades for the vehicle, different weapon systems, maybe some stealth mechanics etc).
- main protagonist starts off as a mercenary being part of a group doing some easy work: escorting scientists, catching some gangsters, pirates and such - nothing overly epic and dangerous, just right to build up the mood, and see some really cool ancient ruins of past civilizations, explore a couple of rebuild cities etc
- as the game progresses, evidences emerge that several races/civilizations actually managed to survive the reaper harvest. which is bad bad news, as these races either share the prothean mindset of being ruthless imperialists dreaming of a full rebuild and dominance or simply deperate enough to preserve what is left of their slowly dying kind that they will try to dominate the "lesser" species.
while by far not as fearsome as reapers, these races are still way too far ahead of the young ones inhabiting the galaxy and they already began to pull the strings as soons as the reapers went belly up. with young races being weakened by the reaper war, this threat is a very serious one.
- throughout the game/series the protagonist will rise up the ranks and maybe get in touch with the council or alliance command, get more independance, more ressources and of course his/her own crew and a ship.
possible variants: paragons will strive to get to work with council/alliance while renegades might want to accept contracts of shady organisations/personas(at that time maybe agents of these new races) and ultimately be captured by council/alliance to implant them with a mini-bomb in their heads, forcing the players to cooperate. that might be an interesting twist there.
- further down the line these old civilizations will put an ever increasing pressure on the galaxy, forcing other species into military conflicts and maybe even themselves enter full scale war against each other.
ultimately, the player will have to find a way how to eliminate this new threat through several ways:
- collaborating with one of these old civilizations in efforts against others
- playing them against each other
- finding compromises of some sort
- trying to brute force through military strength, discovered ancient superweapons or some sort of a malignant virus capable to wipe out these civilizations in their entirety.
renegade players might get the choice to sell out their own race in exchange for being appointed as a local ruler over an entire planet, seat in the new council or something like that.
